Gave this place another try, and to be honest the broth was so much better than the last time I've tried it for bbh. I am not a noodle person, but on the cold rainy day I was craving it. I got the special pho and the flavor of the broth was good. The flavor broth reminded me of how my mom made her pho. Again I'm not a pho place and a lot of places are hit or miss. It's not always consistent but for the price you pay they give you a decent amount of meat in your soup as well. Some places give like 4 piece of meat. I'll return when I want pho again.

Great food with some available dishes I haven't seen at other Vietnamese restaurants. Everything I've tried has been delicious. They do a lot of take out business and usually only have one or two servers so if it's busy service might slow down just a bit but they hustle and it's not a problem.

I went here with my bf recently & we were both so happy with our pho! Love the amount of noodles they give, broth is so yummy, and the atmosphere is calm and clean. Service was polite and helpful. Oh and their thai tea was sooo good. I can't wait to go again :)

From service to food everything is excellent, we had pork spring roll which is good except not much noodle inside we just so use to the shrimp spring roll always have lots noodles in the paper wrap. Pho is excellent too. Definitely will be back when we in this area.

I have been to this restaurant a few times with a friend and we have never been disappointed. The tofu appetizer is a must every time. I always order the vegetarian noodle soup. It's always hot and delicious. This place gets full of people at lunchtime which is a good sign. It's not a fancy place but the food is consistently of excellent quality and the servers are always friendly and efficient. Just writing this review is making me crave the food again!

Quaint restaurant. The marinated pork was absolutely delicious - my dad had me try a piece and it was amazing. If I lived nearby I'd easily make this a regular thing to order. The pho broth was really good but I think the brisket could've been prepared better it was really tough and I prefer a different noodle than the thin ones.

To start with, this place is fresh and bright. They were packed tonight when I arrived @7:00PM. No problem. They had a small table in the corner that was perfect for just me. I was served iced water immediately and asked to please be patient. They came back less than 10 minutes later and asked if I had any questions. I did and they were promptly answered and I ordered. I had the fried egg rolls. They were amazing!!! I also had the Pho with beef balls. They brought out my egg rolls first as they were an appetizer. Then bean sprouts, jalapeños, sweet basil and a quarter of a lime. I put it all in my pho when it arrived and thus began one of the best meals I have had in quite a while. Loved the food, the people and the atmosphere. BTW they are family owned and operated. Give them a try. You won't be disappointed.

This is the portion of broccoli that $5.25 gets you! The kicker is that they were hard and undercooked!

I shared all of this with my family at home. We were very impressed with Pho Van's food. The Pho Broth was awesome, especially considering I assembled the pho a few hours later for dinner. Pho Van is definitely in play as a top Pho spot in CT. We ate the rest of the food 30 minutes later for lunch. The fried rice, with a substantial mix of sausage, shrimp, beef, pork etc., was up there with CT's best fried rice too. Full of stuff and flavor. The Banh Mi and Rolls were also very good. The inside was more functional than nice, but it's definitely fine to eat there. Service was good. I'll definitely return for a dine in experience. 4.5 Stars

It's close to a sporting complex, in the same plaza as a larger brewery. Not the easiest to spot, will need the gps to assist. The inside is sparse in decoration but the staff was very friendly. We got the spring rolls, the fried wonton, a pho and a bahn mi. Food came out quick, we took pics then dug in. The wontons had a good pork and scallion filling. They didn't need sauce to taste good, which is a good sign. The spring rolls were okay, crispy but oily and the dipping sauce was weak. The pho was good, meat was tender, noodles were okay, and soup base was chicken broth with spices. The bahn mi was pretty good as well. Pickled veggies were very sweet, the ham was tender enough and the mayo butter was heavy handed. The bread was crusty but soft, not what I consider to be proper bahn mi bread, but good enough. Price was about 45 for the two apps and entrees, which is about average for that style of meal. It's not anything to write home about. I would recommend ordering to go mainly because the dining space is right underneath a wrestling ring and the floor shakes when someone gets body slammed below. This is possibly the largest pho (Vietnamese) restaurant in the state (next to Pho Boston). The decor is real nice too. The menu is huge. There are a lot of options including classic Vietnamese non-soup dishes (one of which I am getting). Unique items include salmon spring rolls and salmon noodle soup. There is no music. That should be on while they're open. The owner, Pete, immediately serves me a huge glass of ice water with a lime. It's warm outside so it's very refreshing. For my drink, I'm having a Nuoc Chanh (fresh lime). Nước chanh is a classic Vietnamese limeade, known for its refreshing balance of tart, sweet, and occasionally a hint of salt. In Vietnamese cuisine, "chanh" usually refers to green limes, though lemons can be used as a substitute abroad. This is good! It tastes closer to lemonade. For my appetizer, I am having the Goi Cuon Ga (chicken spring rolls). Gỏi cuốn gà are fresh, non-fried rolls filled with poached chicken, rice vermicelli, fresh herbs (mint, cilantro), and lettuce wrapped in thin rice paper. They are a light, healthy alternative to the traditional pork and shrimp version, often served with peanut hoisin dipping sauce or fish sauce (nước chấm). These are light and easy to eat. The cubed or diced or minced chicken is a different approach I haven't seen before. Add sriracha sauce for a little kick. These are good! They do serve everything on styrofoam plates. Adding some ceramic plates would be a nice touch. For my entree, I'm having the ga luclac (also known as Shaking Chicken). This is stir fried chicken breast with mixed vegetables and white rice. Vietnamese Shaking Chicken (gà lúc lắc) is a popular dish featuring wok-seared, cubed chicken thighs marinated in soy sauce, oyster sauce, and garlic, resulting in a caramelized, savory flavor. It is typically seared at high heat to create a crust, served over greens with onions and tomatoes, often accompanied by rice. I've asked for extra spicy. Let's see what comes out. There's always sriracha sauce as a last resort. This is more like it! It's served sizzle hot! That's a big portion! This tastes great! It's nice to be served by the owner himself! What a great meal here! P.S.: When paying, you need to go up to the front counter.

Don't concentrate too hard on trying to figure out if Pho 99 is the best the region's got. After all, luminaries like Mrs. Lee's and Pho House are gone, but Pho 99 is still here, and it's still so damn good. As a vegetarian, I love the tofu and veggies in Pho 99's pho chay. The pillows of tofu have the right combo of chewy skin and pliant interior, there are the right amount of auxiliary veggies, and the slender noodles always melt and dissolve just so into a silky oneness with the broth. I love the slight cinnamon smell in the broth and the way it gets better the longer it sits there, absorbing the squirts of sriracha and the bean sprouts you dump in. If you want something else, take it from my husband, a philistine on whom the delights of all soups are wasted, who says he adores their shaking beef. Family run, consistently delicious, and not overpriced at $20 for a large bowl, Pho 99's enduring goodness is a reminder of the astronomically high level of Vietnamese food in Hartford we are privileged to enjoy.

However, I felt let down by the service experience at this restaurant. After we ordered and the pho came, the table looked strangely empty to me. As someone who frequently eats pho; I realized it was because the waitress never brought the bean spouts, leaves, and lemon/lime slices to put into our broth. I asked if this restaurant serves it and she looked at me strangely and said it was already in the pho. I thought it was so odd, so I explained that when I usually go out for pho in my home state of Hawaii, usually there is a separate small dish brought to the table with all of these items to put into the broth. The waitress then asked if I wanted it and I said yes. About ten minutes later, the waitress brought out a plate and she said that in Avon, most people don't want the sprouts. I wasn't sure if this was because I look like most of the people from Avon (Caucasian), even though I am just visiting. If anything, couldn't she have at least asked if we would like it? We enjoyed our pho and were happy to eat it how we usually do and we ate all our extra bean sprouts. The waitress never came back to ask how was the pho or refill our water. I had to request a copy of my receipt because she did not print one out for me. When I was trying to fill out the receipt/tip, the waitress was trying to have a full on conversation with me asking about the financial burden of living in Hawaii... the timing of this sudden chattiness was not good for me. I was ready to get out of there. All in all, pho was great (thank you lady in the kitchen) but service could have been a lot better. Will probably not come back again. Sorry:(

It's located in the Old Avon Village plaza. There were plenty of parking. The interior was nice; it looked like it used to be a frozen yogurt spot. The hostess/waitress was nice. Unfortunately, there is no kids menu, but we were able to get a small bowl to share our noodles with our toddlers. The food came out slowly, considering we were only 1 out of 3 tables. We ordered pork and shrimp spring rolls as an appetizer; it was very good and fresh with the peanut butter sauce. For my meal, I ordered the Pho House Special; it's $20.95 and has rice noodles, medium rare beef, brisket, and meatballs. This bowl was huge! The flavor was good but the broth was very oily. I added more hoison, chili oil, and siracha for more flavor. We didn't have any sauces and napkins, so we had to flag down the waitress a couple of times. Also, they never refilled our waters. I noticed the prices were very high compared to other Vietnamese restaurants I've been to. With everything factored together, I gave them 3.5 stars total.
