The best sandwich can be found at this corner spot inside the Gastropub. The baguette is crunchy on the outside just the way I love it. The sweet tomato chutney is a perfect combo for the cheddar cheese ! They also have a ham sandwich and a cauliflower banh mi. Come here for coffee and the best sourdough bread. So lucky to get to enjoy this place. Everyone was friendly.

I can't believe I've slept on small state provisions for so long! I'm a casual diner at gastropark but I always miss out on the hours for the bakery. I recently grabbed a loaf of sourdough for Super Bowl Sunday, When I got home, I used the sourdough for my garlic cheese bread recipe. THE BREAD was FIRE!!!!! It was super fresh and toasted perfectly. I don't want to forget about the cheddar and pecan scone I got either. The cheddar and pecans perfectly complimented each other. When you add their jalapeño jelly, the flavors just go to another level. If you like freshly baked items, stop by gastropark and check them out. read more

After going here just about weekly for a few months, I can say that small state provisions is one of the best bread bakeries in the area and the their popular breakfast sandwich is the BEST egg sandwich I have ever eaten (and is easily my favorite breakfast sandwich). The service at both Gastropark and the Avon location is always friendly, and their case of baked goods is always clean and enticing. The must try is the breakfast sandwich-- though not containing meat, it is one of the most satisfying sandwiches of just egg, aioli, and arugula on warm and lightly toasted rosemary focaccia. Other items I recommend are their ginger molasses cookies and their scones. Their cinnamon buns are also very nice, and all their baled goods are organic and are made from locally sourced ingredients. Overall just a great bread bakery and a great place to get breakfast. read more

Tasty baked goods in a GastroPark, not journey-worthy but very solid cookies. I got a coffee from the location right next to this place. It's incredibly tiny, you can get maybe two people in this location to order at any one time. However, there's a lot of baking and cooking going on behind the scenes and there's a lot of confectionaries to oggle at while waiting. I got their chocolate chip cookie because I consider it a good basis of how one treats their baked goods. That and I really like chocolate chip cookies. They are pretty good. Soft, good chocolate, good ratios of chip to cookie. I like that they add salt to give it that sweet/salty combo. I would probably want these to be brown butter cookies though. I think the add of carmelized milk solids would really help elevate these cookies. Also maybe a little bit of strong coffee from the coffee place right next door? but that's just me guessing. Beyond that, they are solid cookies. I am not sure about the rest of their baked goods but they all look pretty decent. Worth a bite if you're getting some coffee from the place next door! read more

There's nothing I love more than passionate business owners. I woke up this morning, saw an Instagram post about cinnamon buns and knew I had to have one. Unfortunately for me, these guys sell out of the best stuff early so I missed them. The owner was quick to tell me they ran out but I should try the sandwich so I did and I'm so glad he recommended it! Honestly their bread rivals the baguettes of Paris and Lyon in France. Tomato chutney was flavorful and I love anything with arugula. Also, who doesn't love sea salt on a chocolate chip cookie?!? I'm so happy to see how much this business has grown and I can't wait to see where they go in the future. Now I just have to wake up early enough to try one of these cinnamon buns. read more

I absolutely love Small State. This bakery is amazing. The owner and baker, Kevin, is so kind and welcoming... I feel like we're friends, even though he doesn't really know me. He just seems very genuine and kind, and I love the spaces he has created- their stall at Gastropark and their Avon location. Anyway, their baked goods are ahhhmazing. I'm not much of a bread person, because bread is not my thing, but theirs look beautiful and my friends enjoy them. My favorite things are their chia pudding cups, cheddar pecan scones, GF pound cake slices, muffins, and, the ultimate- the potato gallette. The potato gallette is life changing... Believe me when I say it is crave-worthy. Not sure if I truly believe in the afterlife, but if there is one, I really hope it is filled with Small State potato gallettes. Finally, so happy they have a space in Avon where they serve espresso-based drinks with real-deal, legit baristas who know what they're doing and great coffee! And...they're open on Sundays!! I feel like a lot of bakeries aren't, so I am so grateful for that. Anyway, go there! It's a fabulous place filled with delicious things and nice people. read more

Small State Provisions - Windy day on a bike ride. - Bakeries Near Me - West Hartford, Connecticut

Such a great secret spot in the GastroPark! The chocolate chip cookies are vegan and you wouldn't even know! Chewy, salt, and tasty! We also grabbed a loaf of sourdough! It was great for a few breakfasts and snacks for the next few days. The bread stayed soft enough for a few days stored in the paper bag. Definitely interested in trying out all the other options that they have! read more

This is absolutely one of the best bakeries in the area. Better than other more convenient competitors with more accessible storefronts, it is definitely worth it to make it out here, even with their sometimes odd hours. First of all, their focaccia is amazing. It is soft, flavorful, light, delicious. I also really like their mini demi baguettes, which have a wonderfully crisp crust and a very flavorful bread interior. One of the main reasons I like this place is their bread, even their plain bread, has a rich flavor that is often rare to find. Of course, their texture is wonderful: crispy outside and soft on the inside, which is so delicious. Would definitely return and have many times already. They are a small space inside Gastropark. read more

Get 'em while they're hot! And while they last. The cinnamon buns at Small State Provisions is one of the draws that make for a line outside the door prior to their 8 am opening on Saturday mornings. Although my favorite is the ginger cookie and the banana bread. Of course get coffee at Perkatory next door. Both lines are pretty long on Saturday mornings but I probably should've got in the bakery line 1st. My frozen coffee was melting while I waited for the bakery. Although people may be put off by the lines on the weekends, there's plenty of entertainment provided by all of the people brining know to their dogs! And the line moves pretty fast. Weekdays are easier to get in but Small State is only open Thurs-Sunday and the cinnamon buns are only on. Saturdays and will sell out quickly. There are many reasons to visit West Hartford's Gastropark. Small State Provisions is just a Big one. read more

Located inside the GastroPark, Small State Provisions is my go-to bakery. The quality of their sourdough bread and baked goods is superb. I love that they only use organic flour and everything is very fresh. Weekends are the most popular days because they have their famous Sourdough Cinnamon Buns on Saturdays, and on Sundays they have their Sourdough Chocolate Babkas. Highly recommend getting there early in the morning because these sell out fast (and for good reason). Other baked goods you must try include their Banana Bread, Ginger Molasses Cookie, Peanut Butter Cookie, and GF Lemon Pound Cake. Of course, the gluten-free options are just as delicious as everything else. They also offer many different types of sandwiches/lunch options. The best way to find out what they have on the menu is to check their Instagram page. The staff is all so friendly, especially the owner, Kevin! read more

This place started off as a home bakery. I used to have their sourdough bread delivered to my door. Then the owner opened a little bakery in West Hartford and later a larger one in Avon. They use quality ingredients in their products. The owner is a very nice fellow. He recognized me from delivering bread to my door a few years ago and greeted me like an old friend. The breads and pastries are divine and their sandwiches are excellent. I'm a frequent customer now and usually get a delicious cinnamon bun and a sandwich. read more

Such a great local bakery tucked inside The Gastropark in WeHa. I'm so happy I finally got to try something from them! On a Saturday around 1pm (they close at 2) they were almost cleared out of everything! I got to try a favorite cookie of mine though: Ginger Molasses! It was incredible. So soft, so chewy, so tasty, and a really good price for the size of the cookie. I can't wait to actually come by in the morning and try all the great sweets they offer. read more

The only reason why (at this time) I am not uploading any photos is because none of the items I purchase last that long in our house:) From a small cottage bakery that stared in the owners home during COVID to a full brick and motor bakery - Small State Provisions has continued to produce consistent foods that warm both the body and soul. While people were making sourdough - I went straight to the source! Now they have a larger area to work with and are coming out with more products. BUT faithful fans of Small State will be happy to know that their Sourdough Betard, Foccaccia and Maple Olive Oil Granola are still available. Now you just have to decide if you want to add a cookie or scone to your order. They don't skimp on flavor or ingredient quality, which is why this is a calorie load I am willing to take all day everyday! read more

Wow! Extraordinary! The flaky raspberry galette is superb. It has the perfect amount of sweetness, salt, butter and fruit and is cooked to perfection. All I can say is WOW! I have been looking for the perfect sourdough and I finally found it! All the other sourdough I got from anywhere else was just sub par. I love that they use the freshest organic ingredients and I swear you can taste the difference. Today I picked up the loaf with the oatmeal on top and it was outstanding! It was softer than normal tough sourdough so for me it was perfect! I will be back for sure. The service was very nice as well and the person I gave my order to was very helpful and answered all of my questions. 10/10 all around! read more

My friend says the sourdough bread here is great and it sells out so fast and you can order ahead. The baker uses only organic flour to make it he says. I got the lemon bar and it is the best I've had. Perfectly sweet and has a taste of egg that I like w the lemon. My mom who is picky liked it surprisingly! Ahhhh loved this ADORABLE PLACE!! Nestled inside West Hartford's Gastropark, this charming little bakery is amazing! Tiny inside, but packing a big punch as soon at your eyes meet the delectable, mouth-watering goodness they bake each day. Lovely baguettes, scones, prepared, gourmet sandwiches, cookies... just stunning. We spoke with Michael who explained Small State's approach to their craft and what confections they offer on what days, etc. He also explained that the shelves had been full at the beginning of the morning. We were there about 11 am and while there was plenty for us to choose from, you could clearly see that they have some fans out there who come and grab their delicious items early! We had a great sandwich- baguette, arugula, red pepper spread, delicious mild cheese... it was great. We also had a chocolate chip cookie, and a few scones. We are absolutely left with a great impression of the quality and skill behind Small State's products. Loved!!! And we will be back (earlier next time -lol!) for more of this sweet little place. read more

I've been there three times. The last time, I didn't get anything. The bakery choices are limited, but that's ok. The issue is the small dark haired woman who works there, she was unpleasant. I was third in line in the tiny space, and the two women in front of me were together, discussing with each other the various things they might get. After a few minutes of standing and waiting for them to decide what they wanted, I spotted a sandwich looking item, and asked the woman behind the counter if she could tell me what the of sandwich that was. She responded with a curt "I'm waiting on these customers now". And went back to just standing there as the women continued talking. After another min. one of the women (they seemed shocked at the woman's response to me) said "actually, we were also wondering what that is, it isn't labeled". I didn't wait to hear the answer since I left and just got a coffee at the nice stand next door, those folks are great and fast. While the man who bakes the bread is lovely, that woman is enough to make me not want to go back. My friends agree, she was unnecessarily rude. Sorry that he will loose some business because of her behavior. read more
