Beautiful modern Thai restaurant in Greenpoint :) this place is so beautiful, open-wide nice welcoming warmth. They have many Japanese Sake options and I appreciate that. They do offer 3 choices of course as prefix meal for $55 we tried them and it was great. Squid salad was everyone's favorite. Beef green curry was great. Everything was so modern taste and new. It goes well with sake.. Will def come back in the summer time!

This modern Thai/Thai fusion spot in Williamsburg is a good spot for a date night. The interior is intimate, and cozy. Service here is good. I came here for a group dinner with three friends and we ordered their steak tartare, lamb shank, and branzino (they have a fairly small menu). Everything was pretty solid. I enjoyed their steak tartare and thought that it was really unique that they paired the dish with fried tripe. Notes of lemongrass and other spices were really strong, reminding me of Southeast Asia. The lamb shank was flavorful and the meat was so tender. And, the branzino was also delicious. I would note that the portions were a lot smaller than we expected, and everything was a bit on the pricier side. Overall, a nice restaurant for some good food but I would personally prefer more authentic, casual Thai food.

Absolutely amazing dinner at Kru! My husband surprised me with a dinner reservation for our anniversary dinner and it was so special. The combination of flavors was like a symphony in my mouth. The drinks were perfectly paired with the food. We started with a sparkling Reisling with our apps. Later I had a rosé sake with floral notes from Paris that I am still dreaming about. My favorite dish of the night was the crispy noodles, not only was it delicious but it was so incredibly pretty and special, topped with small edible flowers. Highly recommend for a date night or special occasion.

Omg I absolutely loved this place. A modern, inventive take on Thai food! Highlights were the squid salad (so fresh with an amazing, lick your fingers clean sauce), the lamb (must order - our favorite dish of the night and I usually don't even like lamb), the crispy honey soy pork belly, the crispy noodles, and the Thai rice omelette with the crab add-on. Others loved the special Thai pot pie but it was too spicy for me (I'm a baby when it comes to spice). The beef tongue was also not bad but very spicy. The only dishes I wouldn't recommend are the lobster tartare (which was weirdly the waiter's rec - the thick fried seaweed was unpleasant and I didn't love the lobster, which was lightly poached) and the bone marrow (massive but some parts lacked a little flavor and overall was just average). I was in love with the 2021 Stirm Pinot Noir they had from Santa Lucia Highlands. Highly recommend!!

This place has been on our list for a while in our never ending quest to find the best Thai food but ultimately don't know that it lived up to expectations. I'll start by saying that the ambience is super cool with the open garage concept that you just walk into. The decor feels like someone's living room in a way. And the service is super friendly. We went late so it was pretty quiet in a good way. The menu itself is not so large but is somewhat interesting sounding in its diversity. We started with the lobster tartare. It's billed as one bite but can definitely be two (which made me feel better for the price) and it's a fairly good bite. The jackfruit salad was pretty good- I can see why everyone seems to order it. I don't know that the flavoring of the jackfruit stood out as anything over the shallot but it was still a good dish. The beef tongue curry we were warned would be spicy and it certainly is. I do feel as if maybe the bowl was too large for the amount of food you get because it looked a little sparse? I don't know that the meat itself really added anything to the dish and maybe a different cut would have been better. Crab omelette we probably could have skipped- didn't taste very much crab and it wasn't anything otherwise special. The branzino surprised me as I'm usually not a fan even though we get it all the time. I loved that it was deboned and I actually quite enjoyed the texture of it-not a typical preparation at all for branzino.

A big fan-- the waiter warned us the beef tongue curry was spicy and it surely was (but quite worth it), we didn't have a chance to try the small plates, but we wished the lobster tartare one biter was a bit bigger for an $8 plate-- Drinks were delicious and I'd for sure get the branzino and pork belly here! Cheers!

Delicious food, okay service, tucked away location. Very interesting place to eat. Excellent menu.

Food is great. Wine and sale selection are all amazing. Jeff helped me pick the wine to pair with food. Good service.

We came for restaurant week and we were so excited to try everything! I love a cold noodle and the salad was really good. The bone marrow was also cooked with an incredible curry sauce which went well with the bread. We also ordered the branzino and the beef tongue. The branzino was great but the beef curry didnt have much meat in the dish. The service was a bit slow, I think they were understaffed because I only saw a few people working between the waiters, bar staff, and host. But the servers were all very nice. The restaurant is beautiful and we were seated in the back.

Chef Ohm, the founder of Kru (and of Fish Cheeks as well), trained under the legendary David Thompson basically the OG of non-Thai Thai chefs. He took Thompson's Nahm, one of our favorite spots in Bangkok to #1 on Asia's Top 50 list so the man knows his stuff. At Kru, don't expect your usual Pad Thai or watery curries; the food's got serious style. Yes you can taste the sweet, sour, salty and spicy combinations that make it unmistakably Thai, but this is all fancy. We did their 3 course for $45 Restaurant Week menu (with an upcharge on the salmon and the lamb) tried the following - Crabmeat Tartlet - a small portion of crab meat nicely stacked on a canapé. The crab meat was chunky, fresh and barely a hint of coconut cream and thai chili paste and fish sauce with tamarind allowing the crab meat to shine. The portion was truly just a bite and we were left wanting for a little more. Lobster Tartare - this was lobster meat mixed in with some tomato adding the umami flavor on a nori strip and was quite unique. Was adequate for 2 bites. Squid Salad - was a Thai take on ceviche. Thin squid strips marinating in a lime juice, cilantro, chili dressing punctuated with thinly shaved lemongrass refreshing on a hot summer day. Salmon Watercress salad - norweigian salmon over red watercress leaves toppped with salmon roe. The refreshing Thai dressing with a little lime, chili, fried onion and galangal made for an excellent foil to the fatty salmon. Roasted Branzino - The branzino was deboned, wrapped in a banana leaf with coconut cream dill and a mild red curry paste. Their take on the steam fish custard 'Hor Mok Pla' and was topped with tomato slices which was a bit unusual. Lamb Shank with Massaman reduction. - One of the best lamb dishes I've ever had. The entire lamb shank had been roasted to perfection - the meat was just perfectly cooked. Seemed nice and crusty on the outside but one light poke at it and the moist meat just separated from the bone and collapsed on to the rich unctuous curry. We usually find lamb rather gamey but the meat here had none of that funky taste and the rich complex Massaman reduction took it to the next level. We will definitely be back with a bigger group to explore the rest of the menu.

Made a reservation and came on a Saturday night. They had a Restaurant Week menu that seemed like a pretty good value, but it was a lot of food, so we skipped that and just ordered off the regular menu. I tried: + Passionfruit mezcal margarita + Old fashioned + SE & SW sour + Winter boulevardier + Crabmeat relish + Young jackfruit salad + Pineapple curry with whole Maine lobster + Whole stuffed deboned branzino + Ice cream Peach Melba My favorite cocktail was the margarita, and the standout dishes were the crabmeat relish, jackfruit salad, and lobster curry. Unfortunately we had terrible service from our designated server, though the other staff (runners, manager) were great. 4.5 stars.

KRU in Williamsburg is a Thai restaurant crafting dishes from historic recipes that are rarely featured on the pad Thai-heavy menus more ubiquitous to US Thai restaurants. We started off with the squid salad (similar in flavor to a papaya salad crossed with ceviche) and crispy noodles. For mains we had the roasted coconut milk BBQ Cornish hen with a fiery, rich curry balanced by a side of coconut rice, smoked duck breast and braised vegetables, whole stuff branzino deboned and served with curried rice inside as well as a side order of tender sweet pork belly. KRU may have become our favorite Thai restaurant in NYC. We relished the chance to try dishes that were foreign to our knowledge of Thai food. Definitely a must-try restaurant for Thai food lovers

KRU came onto the Northern Williamsburg dining scape touting 100 year old recipes from Thailand with plenty of soul. They promptly slayed the media circuit, receiving a lot of buzz, despite a saturated Thai restaurant scene here. While these accolades had my hopes set quite high, my meal felt not completely aligned with my palate (lol very diplomatic speak, I know). The melon chicken soup was the dish I regretted ordering most, served in a tepid soup and chicken that had barely any flavor but a sharing dish they charge a pretty penny for. I preferred the cauliflower salad's cruciferous crunch against the tomato sauce and a sweet and savory jackfruit salad made even tastier with crispy fried shallots on top. Bonus points for the happy hour rose at $10, which I'll happily toast to again when it feels like rose weather again. It was a bit of a wallet busting feast for what you get, especially for me who couldn't enjoy much of their red meat inclined menu. This restaurant might fare better as a power lunch spot.

As soon as we arrived, we were escorted to a table. I've noticed that this restaurant seemed very authentic. They had dishes that I've never seen at other Thai spots. Their chefs are also from Central & Northeastern part of Thailand. So, they are cooking from their respective regions. The presentation of their dishes are all aesthetically pleasing. We decided to share a small plate of HOR MOK This tasted almost like a crab puree into a spoon sized portion. There's 7 pieces in one order. It was recommended to eat it all in one bite. It was great. Texture was very smooth in your mouth. Surprisingly, it had a spicy kick (but nothing too intense). I personally decided to try KHAO PAD MUN NEUR. This is a pricey dish, but very filling! It was said to have 2 pepper spice level to it, but I personally didn't find it very spicy. The rib eye was cooked just the way I like it - medium well (still with some redness in the inner portion). The meat had a perfectly charred/grilled exterior, but very soft to chew. This meat was probably the best part of the dish. Only slight complaint is that the rice was very saucy (almost a bit too much for my preference). But overall, I did enjoy it and was able to finish it, but left super full! Overall, I think it was worth a try. Their service is great. The servers are super great of making sure that your water is always topped up. They explained the recommended way to eat certain dishes. They were able to answer any questions that we had.

I dislike bamboo shoot which is not a standard ingredient for this particular entrée. I think the bamboo shoot tainted this entrée. I am a traditionalist conservative which bean sprouts is a good substitute variation for bamboo shoot vegetable including string bean. This entrée is my favorite default and as a caveat, if any Thai restaurant or cafe do not offer on their menu I refuse entry to patronize. This entrée enticed my interest and embedded the lunch meal menu for the reasonable price. I personally despise and do not consume spicy hot foods, but occasionally consume mild or very mild in the smallest measurement of the Scoville scale which I specifically requested, but received medium hot spicy. The waitress forewarned me the intense heat level on the Scoville scale as Thai cultural spicy with two or more bird's eye chilies for a high level of spiciness. The spiciness of chili peppers were, in my opinion, medium spicy. Despite the intense medium heat spiciness, the stir-fried noodles lacked flavor with, tender chicken, minimal vegetables, and Thai basil in a bland taste. I wish I chosen shrimp as the protein. Pad Kee Mao sustained my hunger pangs and ate my fill. When eating Thai intense heat spicy foods, I visualize to think of the TV segment "Niall Horan & James Corden Take On Hot Wings" on "The Late Late Show with James Corden" in March, 2020. High heat spicy foods! Thai ice tea, large $3.00 This was a delight and neutralized the heat spiciness because it contains milk. It was served chilled in a large highball glass. If utensils are gold then the interior cafe should contain these "gaudy" feature extensive gold elements, including gilded moldings and furniture. At the bottom of the sales receipt there is a suggested gratuity in intervals of 18%, 20% and 22% where customers do not have to perform math calculation. I paid $23.00 in cash as the waitress' informative knowledge of the ingredients and preparation of the heat level on the Scoville scale.

My partner was running late, and even though the place is clearly very popular right now, they still accommodated us with a table. The staff explained every unfamiliar dish we asked about, always with a smile. I usually avoid the standard NYC Thai restaurant lineup of pad thai + generic curry situations and look for places that feel more regional and authentic. The menu here had a bunch of dishes I didn't recognize, which immediately made me excited. They even have a spice guide though the icons don't necessarily mean increasing spice levels. As I understood it, different symbols represent different types of heat. Three chili emojis and three meteor emojis may be equally spicy, but they hit differently. They recommended not to order the pad krapow nuer, and honestly, fair enough. Instead, we got the chicken khao soi, which was far better than versions I've had elsewhere - deeply flavorful, spicy, rich with umami. My partner was crying. I, meanwhile, was at "this is perfect and I'm having a great time." One Huge chunk of chicken cooked exactly right. Mix everything thoroughly before eating. Then came the kua kling which arrived with another warning. That dish became my personal challenge to impress the server, and apparently I succeeded because now they've promised that next time they won't discourage me from ordering the nuer. They kept refilling cabbage and cucumber for us to cool down from the heat. The kua kling itself was incredible. That dry curry heat was everything. It builds slowly, then suddenly punches you in the face - but alongside all that spice is an insane amount of flavor. They also recommended to order a non-spicy side dish to have a balanced meal and spice level, but we skipped it because it would've been too much food. Honestly, this is the kind of place where going with at least four people is ideal so you can try more dishes and balance the spice levels. And if you're unsure what to order, trust the servers - their recommendations were spot on. Also: really great ciders and beers. We were really happy with both choices. Overall, even though it's far from the city for me, I'd absolutely go back.

I should have known from the protracted negotiations for a suitable table that followed when my husband, mom and I arrived punctually for our 5:30 reservation and were primly informed we'd be squeezing onto a two top, then were refused an obviously empty three-top ("it's reserved"....oh you mean by a party of three with a reservation like us?), and then grudgingly seated at a four-top, half of which was literally in the kitchen. I should have known after being apprised that "you have one hour at the table." I should have known when there were no appetizers or desserts, and only two vegetarian entrees. This is the same thing as before. We're so back, baby. The mushroom curry, with its single fire emoj, was nowhere near the spiciest thing on the menu, but gosh was it still spicy. How do they make food with such complex flavors that's still hot enough to have emanated from the bowels of hell? It has to be one of the best curries I've had. It's a talent, special even, but it could easily coexist without Hungry Thirsty's other downsides. But I think all those inconveniences and discomforts are the point. They serve to reinforce the specialness of the special parts, counterintuitively increasing your mental investment in internally extolling Hungry Thirsty's virtues. They are to each element what spice is to food: it hurts, and you're proud that it hurts. It all adds up to the second coming of Ugly Baby, and why wouldn't it? Enough people liked being slapped around; maybe they felt like they deserved it. You know if that's you or not.

My first time here and it was a great experience. It is Valentine's Day and we left with a cute little gift from them, beautiful gesture. Definitely coming back :)

Chiangmai Diner is the most unique Thai restaurant I've encountered. My first experience was…read morethrough a Yelp Elite event where we were generously welcomed to a wide variety of items on the menu. I enjoyed the food and the event so much that I've returned and told others to go as well. What I like the most is that Chiangmai's expansive menu showcases aspects of Thai cuisine that you're probably not getting at your neighborhood spot. Many items are Northern Thai style dishes. I'd never had Khao Soi before coming here and I was blown away. The chiangmai sausage is also delicious. The roasted duck curry boasts deep flavor while also maintaining the crispiest duck skin. For appetizers, we started with the crispy salmon belly bites and the moo ping. Frying salmon is risky, but the fattiness of the belly keeps it from drying out. The moo ping is nicely grilled and served with a sweet sauce. You just can't go wrong ordering meat on a stick. As an entree, I tried the Gaeng Awm Nur, a soup-like beef dish served with a side of sticky rice. Our server had been really nice and welcoming, so I felt ok asking how I should eat my meal. She advised that I make a ball of some sticky rice with my hand, mash it a bit, and then dip it into the soup. Thai food achievement unlocked! Now I know what to do next time I'm served sticky rice. There's so much on the menu it can be hard to choose. This is encouragement to go with someone else who enjoys food so you can choose things to share! You won't be disappointed and in fact may find that your regular Thai spots could step up their game in comparison.
