First time trying out Koze East. We showed up around 430pm when it opened for the dinner crowd. It was just me and my wife, and four others at our grillside table. The hostess and waitress were quick and attentive. So no problem with them. The salad and miso were... strange. Not terrible. Definitely had worse. But the salad did nothing for my tastebuds. So I sent it back. The soup was a change from not having the normal bits of tofu I have come to expect from other places. But it was still tasty. It took about 50 minutes from when we sat down, to have the chef come out. (Still pretty empty at this point) I got a 2pc nigri of Yellowtail. Felt like it had been sitting on the counter for a bit. Nothing special. I also ordered the filet mignon and shrimp. The filet was cooked perfectly. However, the pepper seasoning was overpowering, and kinda ruined the meat in my opinion. Shrimp were... well... shrimp. Nothing amazing about them. Wife ordered the Chicken Teriyaki. She enjoyed her meal. And the White Sauce was the best since she has had since she moved here. Took the whole family here for hibachi. The wife got sushi, but I'm not qualified to review that, though the Krabby Patty and Kamasutra rolls were quite tasty. Soup and salad were exactly what you'd expect from this type of place, though the soup was a little bland. Rice was a little drier than I'd expect, but still tasty. Vegetables were very fresh and cooked perfectly. My filet mignon was quite good, but the real star of the meal was the shrimp - quite possibly the best shrimp I've had at this type of restaurant. Service was good but not excellent - I think the server forgot to put my wife's sushi order in until I reminded her, but I'll chalk that up to a simple mistake since I think she was new. The chef was more focused on the meal than the performance, and I appreciated that - it showed in the food. Do note that the menu states they will automatically add an 18% gratuity for parties of FOUR OR MORE. This is definitely the smallest number of people I've ever seen for an auto-grat. It was so good, I could have had another. We then Ordered off the "Teppan Menu". I had the shrimp and chicken and my husband had the shrimp and New York Steak. Both are served with fried rice and vegetables. Complimentary Miso soup and Salad. Everything was cooked well. It is a bit pricey, but the food and experience was worth it. Didn't eat at the hibachi grill, but looked around and could tell they like to have fun with the guests. Ordered sushi (Koze special and big baby lobster). It was delicious and didn't fall apart. The duck was ordered as well and was well plated and delicious. The short ribs were recommended as appetizer and were great. And desert was the Koze cheesecake... YUM. First time I enjoyed the full 3 course meal. Beautiful place. I gave it 4 stars because it wasn't busy at all so I would like to see how the service is on a busier day. We bought one kids meal and paid $5.95 for an additional share plate which included a huge portion of rice and veggies plus soup and salad. This is one of the best restaurants on the East time and only minutes from our home so bonus! My husband and I are regulars here every since they opened. We have always had excellent service. The food is great. We have had just about every entree on the menu, several of the appetizers and quite a few different rolls. Never disappointed. Meals are big enough to share but eating here you may just find extra room cuz it's so freaking good! Hibachi chefs put on a good show but be wary of children as the light show may startle them as my little ones have been a little traumatized from the onion volcano. It's cool they need to learn about fire sooner or later. Might as well be with the delicious smell of salmon, scallops, shrimp and steak! This is one of my favorite restaurants in El Paso. I always sit at the grill and we get very good food. Today I decided to order take out because I couldn't sit at the grill. I paid $85 for the smallest portions of food. The food isn't cooked how I asked and on top of that you can't get the soup to go, even though it's included in the meal. I will never be ordering takeout again. If y'all are gonna charge me regular price for the grill as if I'm sitting in then I expect my food portions and everything to be the same. I was hoping for a fun exciting experience as I have been to places like this in the past but let's say from the first person to the last person this was a bad experience. First we were quoted 30 minute. Okay no biggie right? Well 30 minutes came and went with no explanation or anything except annoyed looks from the hostess and her talking smack about the large parties already seated. It was about 930 when we were finally sat at a grill alone. Our waitress was pretty nice. Everything she did was relatively efficient. She seemed very timid but friendly enough. Our soup and salad was out quickly but again it was almost all empty. So I would expect quick service. Next our 'chef' came along about 20 minutes after we were finally seated. Cooked the food quickly, cleaned and left. It was so bad that the only other chef was talking smack to ours. The food was VERY salty. Overly salty to the point i didn't even like it. It was inedible honestly. Lastly, when it was time for our check we didn't see our waitress again until I had a busboy come take the card so we could leave because she was clearly too busy with the other employees talking about customers probably as I had witnessed as soon as I arrived. The manager came over and said that the hour we waited wasn't an extraneous amount of time. In what world does a manager say that? None that I know of. Make your customers happy but not once did anyone attempt to make our experience better. This place has a poor excuse for employees and management. The food was not worth the money. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Find a different teppan grill. read more
