Food is good and service is ok. What is VERY disappointing is their tipping policy. A few months ago, a 20% automatic tip was added to parties of eight, then change to parties of six, and now it's of parties of four. On take out orders, an automatic Tip of 20% tip is added to orders over $150. While I understand, everything is more expensive, I think it's important to give patrons the opportunity to tip as they wish. Perhaps a raise on price is necessary, versus trying to compensate with tips. read more

The portion sizes were generous, but the vegetables in the hibachi were slightly undercooked and could have used more time on the grill. The chicken was a bit tough, and the beef, which we requested medium rare, arrived well done. The avocado eggrolls were also tough and dry. On a positive note, the tempura veggies were excellent--crispy and served in a large portion. As many times I have been here, surprised that I never left a review. The meals are great as well as the service. You can choose l your order as its cooked over the grill in front of you, sushi, eggrolls, or another selection on the menu. The food is very healthy as well. Make sure you come with an appetite since it can be a lot of food for one person. Then the chefs are very good as they spend time practicing their cooking skills. It is always a good show. Came in from out of town and Went in with high expectations but was shortly after 2nd guessing our choice to dine here. Waitress had no idea what was even on their own menu and brought out the wrong roll and didn't even offer to take it off the bill. The sashimi rice was dry as well as the fish that seemed and tasted like rubber and can tell they don't prioritize the quality of their sushi. Sodas were flat. Brought out the wrong beer. The teppanyaki chef was funny but needed a lil more training on food seasoning and customer interaction, Benihana is the gold standard and they fell severely short. We've been customers of Koze for a very long time. Before the pandemic we were there every other Friday. We got takeout during Covid and always appreciated how well they packed to-go orders. We continued being regular customers with to-go orders because the loud music and noise made it difficult to talk with friends. But the last few months the quality has declined. On numerous occasions I had to call back and let them know either an item was wrong (missing ingredients) or bad ingredients (brown avocado) or really small rolls. On 2 occasions, I asked for thinly sliced lemon on my sushi because they had done this before. They charged me $2 one time and $3 the next. When I asked why, the answer was that the lemon was up to the chef. So if the chef didn't include it, there was a charge . They would try to address other issues by offering a refire of the dish. Not living close by, this option wasn't feasible. The health score concerns me. We're taking a break and might try again later. read more

Our chef was okay, he was not as entertaining or experienced as the other ones I was watching - he seemed pretty new and he spilled our sauces and dropped some of my steak on the table when plating our food. This is a super late review but it was absolutely necessary to share my family's great experience here. We went for my Dad's birthday dinner on the 16th. Our party of 9 was seated in a timely manner and the waiter was friendly and made some good suggestions of sake. We ordered some sushi rolls and salad for appetizers then we all ordered teppan meals. This is an update report from my experience, first time I was here I just got the sushi and thought it was good but nothing out of this world. I had a date here and we were at the "grill" tables or Hibachi properly named. The cooker was funny and charismatic the show is good and entertaining even if you've been to a Hibachi before, I had the combo that included chicken and shrimp and my date got chicken and steak, the chef must've been confused because he served my date chicken shrimp and steak and he didn't charge it extra of course he agreed to eat the whole thing haha. The vibe is what makes it for me here. I went back again for a friend's birthday and we had so much fun they cookers are just very charismatic so be sure to leave them a tip and try the Moscato is good too. read more

First, the food is delicious, though somewhat expensive for El Paso. My family often comes here for special occasions to eat at the grill or in the restaurant side. You can find better values in El Paso, but the ambiance and service are generally good. The billing for our last visit could have been better. Koze charges a three percent fee to use a credit or debit card. This charge seems tacky for a nicer restaurant (or at least one with prices of an aspiring upscale El Paso restaurant). More disappointing, I was charged an automatic 20 percent gratuity on my bill. I did not see this policy posted publicly when visiting the restaurant (though I wasn't looking for it). I believe Texas law requires restaurants to post such policies in easy-to-recognize ways. We were a party of four with four entrees and an appetizer - not the typical party where automatic gratuity is applied. Luckily, I saw this on my bill and did not double-tip. However, instead of a larger-than-twenty-percent tip I often give, I just added a bit to round off my bill. If Koze aspires to be an upscale restaurant, such policies detract from the good feelings at the end of the visit. read more

We came with family to celebrate my husband's birthday and it was wonderful! The atmosphere was great and they were playing Christmas music which definitely got us in the Christmas spirit. We had Micah as our chef and he was great! He was so friendly and entertaining. He was nice enough to ask me if I wanted him to cook my tofu before the other proteins so there is no contamination. This is very rare at hibachi restaurants but something I defiantly appreciate. The only negative was the soup and salad dressing was not vegetarian and they didn't have a vegetarian option. I went for teppanyaki with a group of women with reservations made before hand. Although space was a little tight for our big group, we made do and it worked out. The service was awesome and our chef was very engaging and lively throughout the night! I had scallops and shrimp and they were cooked perfectly, tender and not chewy at all. Overall, the food was very flavorful but was a little too salty for me as i typically use much less salt when I cook because I have a toddler. It was probably okay for the majority of the group as no one complained and only said how delicious everything was! Portions were very generous and most people took leftovers home. They had a weird sitting arrangement to somewhat enforce social distancing but it did not seem coherent nor had a real occupancy limit. The food! This review is only for the sushi, and not the teppan table This was my first time trying Koze. Someone had recommended them for sushi so I figured I'd give it a try. We went on an early Sunday evening and didn't have to wait to be seated (party of 2). We started with the sticky gyoza. They were good, it was interesting bc they were covered in a rubbery cheese sheet. Next we got the Seoul tacos. I was hoping they would be better then they were with the rib-eye KBBQ. I felt that the meat was a little dry, and I wasn't a fan of the wonton wrapping used as the taco shell. Personally I felt it would be much improved on a regular tortilla. For the sushi, we got salmon and eel nigiri. Those were solid and well prepared. For rolls we got a spicy tuna roll, which wasn't bad but it wasn't impressive. We got the kamikaze, firecracker, the bbq eel, and the naked & afraid. They were tasty, but didn't feel like they were that special. In fact, at a certain point we weren't sure which was which since some of them were so similar. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Will definitely be back to try the Teppan table. And for sushi, maybe next I'll stick to just nigiri, but that's largely a personal preference. read more

I've done both and have had a great experience. The restaurant is very nicely decorated. It really gives you a feel of a nice Japanese restaurants with the wooden glass panels. The hibachi experience is very entertaining. The cooks have a great sense of humor and put on a great show. The food at the hibachi is delicious and are very large in portion. For the sushi, I got the Chirashi bowl and it is so delicious. The fish is fresh and very tasty. I forget I'm in El Paso sometimes!
