One of their specialty pancakes with banana and peanut butter
Violet H.

Kauai still hasn't recovered from the pandemic. On a Saturday morning, not that early, it was tough to find anything that was open. The timing was such that they turned on the "open" sign as we were passing by. It's on Kuhio Highway, so there's free parking in front and a pay lot on the side. Note: The pay lot isn't paved and is very bumpy and rocky. There's a small cafe side and a larger restaurant side, with the kitchen in the middle. We were getting takeout do we opted for the cafe. There are a few tables and chairs. Prices were predictably high, but the portions were generous, and the food was good. I had the breakfast sandwich with eggs (not green) and ham. It was quite large, compared to any other breakfast sandwich I've had. The three others in my party enjoyed their food and drink, too. It would be nice to come back for lunch.

Ube Mochi pancakes - the special of the day

We stumbled upon Kountry Kitchen while looking for breakfast. It was fairly empty when we arrived but quickly filled up which, to me, indicates a good breakfast reputation. The hashbrowns were crispy, the omelets were plentiful and the pancakes were huge. Portion size was reflected in the prices which, honestly, are pretty standard Hawaii prices (it just hurts this Texan to pay $20+ for a simple ingredient meal). The restroom was extremely clean and spacious. Kudos to the staff! Heads up: being cash if you want to save 2% or else be prepare for a 3% up charge for credit card purchases.

I visited Kountry Kitchen in Kapaʻa, Kauaʻi, Hawaii [4-1485 Kuhio Hwy] on Thursday, 01/22/26, around 10:30 AM. Giving two stars for a restaurant is rare from my end. Unfortunately, this restaurant provided a gigantic lackluster, and underwhelming experience. Here were the main issues: * The service was quite slow. It took a long while to be greeted initially at the table, and even longer to receive the bill at the end. * There were a few flies around during the entire meal, which made it super difficult to enjoy my food in peace. My comfort in eating was stripped away. * Parking was difficult to find in the immediate area. I had to park my vehicle up the street. * The price points for breakfast food were teetering more on the slightly expensive side. On the positive side, the food tasted decent. I ordered the Kalua Pork & Egg with a side of white toast and Portuguese Sausage. The wait time for seating was minimal, and the restaurant's interior was nice, especially with the gift shop filled with a lot of rooster-related products. Overall, I was not pleased with this visit, as it was a huge disappointment and letdown. Please take all things noted into consideration when coming to Kountry Kitchen.

Service was fast since they place orders on their ipads. Everyone works as a team to take orders, bring food and drink, replenish coffee, hand out to go boxes and clear the table. Very efficient to help with the line outside. Ube toast was my main meal with a coconut latte. What a treat! Nothing left for later. The restaurant has a lot of seating without overcrowding. Will return for my next visit

Checked out this breakfast place based on other reviews raving about the coconut syrup and pancakes. I pictured the inside differently, but it was clean and they had plenty of seating and high chairs for little ones. The Ube French toast, was delicious and probably the best "Ube sweet breakfast" I enjoyed while vacationing on the islands, but other than that I wouldn't return. It was on the pricier side, but the service was good overall. The loco moco was probably our least favorite on the island. They do have a gift shop in the front of the restaurant you can purchase from and they'll even ship it out for you for a fee. The coffee was good, but they'll charge you $2 for a to-go cup. If you pay in cash there is a small discount.

This was the perfect spot for brunch on our first day in the Kapa'a area! The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the menu was great. we ordered Kalua Pork Grilled Cheese, the Corned Beef Hash, the Bacon Avocado Grilled Cheese, and of course, a side of spam. Everything we tried was delicious, but the Kalua Pork was a standout! Make sure you go ahead and join the waitlist on Yelp - when we arrived there was a 25 minute wait and once we were seated it was another 30 minute wait for our order.

Solid choice for breakfast/brunch. Very unassuming place, but the service and food are good, especially the bacon avocado benedict and the banana mac pancake that was the size of the plate! Don't waste your time on the sampler special.

We stopped by on our way to the airport. Wow. Everything was delicious. This was my third loco moco on this trip but first at Kountry Kitchen. We added a gigantic pancake with chocolate chips. My wife and I were stuffed. We will return.

LOL.. We came back for the excellent food. I got the Kauai Benedict and hubby got another omelet. I love Hawiian sweet bread, so I deconstructed my Bene and ate the bread alone with a little syrup (yum!). Kaula pork was perfectly fork tender and paired well with my poached egg, yummy hollandaise sauce and crispy hash browns. I took half back with me for lunch :) We got here at 730 am and didn't have to wait. The traffic to get to the restaurant was the longest wait :) Service and Ambiance were great.

Kountry Kitchen is a popular spot and is very convenient when you need a hearty meal! The restaurant parking area can be difficult due to the fact that there's not much street parking, but there is a lot across the street you can park in. It's a very spacious restaurant and has a gift shop inside with a lot of cute items to browse if you need to wait for your table. We had a large group of 8 but were seated quickly and our server was very nice. I had the Loco Moco which is my favorite meal to eat while in Hawaii. It was ok but to be honest, I've had better at other restaurants. I found the patty and gravy lacking in flavor. The menu was very extensive for breakfast and lunch and I'd have no trouble coming back to try other items, but I'll find my Loco Moco elsewhere!

Pigs in a blanket special. There were FOUR! Took half home :)

Always a delicious meal with amazing waitstaff who are friendly and hardworking. Carrie and Este are da best ! I love my usual breakfast, bacon avocado eggs Benedict. I usually don't stray far from that unless they have the crab Benedict ! :) Husband is adventurous. He gets something new every week. Often the "special". Yesterday's Pigs in a Blanket were to die for. He also loved the Fiesta Omelette and the Benedict made with cornbread and fresh spinach and homemade sausage patty. He does say they make a mighty good burger too if you're not in a breakfast mood. Thanks for always treating us with warm Aloha Kountry Kitchen!

special drinks - watermelon juice $9 and cafe bombom ($6)

I was really excited to grab breakfast here, but personally I felt like my meal was just okay. My friend and I stopped by for breakfast on our first full day in Kauai. We were able to get seated as soon as we arrived Friday morning around 8 am. There's some limited parking right in front of the restaurant and a much larger dirt lot right across the street where most people were parking. The menu is huge and has all the breakfast/brunch staples you can think of. I had a hard time deciding what I wanted, since everything looked so good, and ultimately went with the corned beef hash loco moco with a side of cornbread for $24. I've never seen this combo before, but as someone who loves corned beef and loco mocos, I figured I couldn't go wrong. Unfortunately it fell flat. I didn't feel like there was a lot of corned beef, there was way too much rice (despite all my efforts I had a lot of rice left at the end), and I was NOT a fan of the gravy at all. It tasted pretty weird to me. Also, I got freshly squeezed watermelon juice, which was a special, and didn't realize it would be $9. All the other juices on the menu were only $6, so this came as a surprise to me when I saw the final bill. At least my friend enjoyed his garden omelette ($21), which he got with hash browns and wheat toast. Note: you get 2% off if you pay with cash

We ordered the Lilikoi, Haupia, and Ube malasadas -- and WOW. All of them were so good, but the ube was our favorite! Soft, fluffy, perfectly sweet, and filled with so much flavor. You can really taste the freshness. The employees were also so sweet and kind, which made the experience even better. It's always nice to feel welcomed, especially early in the morning. Another big plus is the private parking lot with plenty of spaces -- super convenient! There's also lots of outdoor seating in a courtyard surrounded by beautiful plumeria trees (and some friendly chickens walking around), which adds to the whole island charm. Such a delicious and peaceful spot to start your day -- we'd definitely come back again!

Unfortunately being from Oahu with having Leonard's Bakery malasadas, these malasadas were rather mid compared to that. The guava filling was the artificially flavored type. But other than that it was a decent/above average sweet treat. The malasadas itself I'd say was 3 stars. However, the star was the Java Chip Mocha Frappuccino. The thing I loved most about it was that the java chips were small enough where it never got stuck in the straw and was evenly consistent with every sip. By far the best java chip mocha frappuccino in my book! I'd come back for this one. It made starbucks seem mid tbh. Service was friendly and efficient. And the ambiance, though quite small it was fresh with the smell of a malasadas bakery :) Plus a few tables and plenty parking outside. Overall I'd give it a 4 stars. Definitely coming back for that java chip frappuccino YUM!!!

We enjoyed: -Hawaiian Vanilla Latte - half sweet was the perfect balance -Americano with steamed cream - Kauai Latte-- Maybe I don't know what I'm looking for in a Mac nut syrup but I didn't notice any unique flavors...but it was still delish. But let's talk about the TOAST! They all looked SO GOOD. I narrowed it down to two: the avocado toast deluxe or the eggy toast. The eggy toast is more like an egg salad. Even though I think any time of day is a good time for egg salad, I went with the deluxe because microgreens and pickled red onions have a hold on me. While I've had variations of this toast at home and in my hometown, I've never tried it with chili. My lips were burning a bit, so if you are a sissy with heat, you might want to opt for no or reduced sauce. I left with no regrets...except that I should have come sooner than our last day on Kauai...and I should have grabbed an eggy toast to go!

We stopped by on a Tuesday around 8:30AM and got our pick of malasadas to try out! Kauai Bakery is located in a shopping plaza with plenty of ample parking, making it very easy to stop by and grab some delicious pastries. Service is like your typical bakery, you pick what you would like and they get it to you so you can stuff your face immediately after purchase. Ambiance is cozy with plenty of pastries to pick from in the large display case. We got 4 flavors of Malasadas for $16, which is $4 per doughnut, which I think is a decent price for the size and heft. The flavors we sampled were Lilikoi, Coconut, and Guava - out of these flavors, the coconut one was my personal favorite! The flavor was exactly what I would want anything coconut cream flavor should taste, creamy texture with a pleasant coconut taste that didn't taste artificial at all. It captured the floral background taste that is missing from a lot of coconut desserts that makes coconut so pleasing to eat! The Lilikoi one was my next favorite, it had a slight tartness and a more subtly pronounced flavor - I think I was looking for something stronger personally. Lastly was the guava one, which actually tasted a bit artificial and didn't have a pronounced flavor at all, which was unfortunate. Despite this critique, I would still glady inhale 2 or 3 of them because the dough was really pillowy and really enjoyable to eat. I think that the pastries here (at least the malasadas) are very solid and priced competitively vs most things here on Kauai. I would totally come back to get several more of the malasadas as well as try the other pastry options on the menu. Stop by and give this bakery a try if you are in the area!
