I tried this place for the first time when I found it on DoorDash. The puddings are absolutely delicious! I love that they are light, refreshing, and not overly sweet. Yes, the products are a bit pricey, but I think it is oh so worth it. TLDR: It's not worth it, you're better off spending your money somewhere else. The price point got me absolutely dumbfounded as I'm sitting here re-contemplating my decisions. You're telling me for about $11, I get a 4 inch PLASTIC jar with about 1-2 inches worth of coconut pudding. Don't be fooled by other reviews, the jar is quite small, and I've taken a photo with a ruler for reference. For a brand that touts such a "healthy, guilt-free" dessert, I half-expected them to not only be health-conscious but environmentally conscious as well, but that's my mistake for having these expectations. The desserts come in an unsustainable bag as well, but I do understand that the bag's purpose is to preserve the dessert's quality, and keep it cold. However, the dessert could have just as easily been handed without the bag, I'm including this in my review because the bag just seems unnecessary and not eco-friendly. The dessert comes in a variety of options, and comes with a small packet of coconut flakes. Also if you're looking for a place to sit down and enjoy your dessert with a large group of people, this location is quite small and offers outdoor seating and like three bar stools inside. It's basically like a ghost kitchen (meaning it's similar to a food-service business that specializes in delivery/ online orders) Additionally, it's located near an airport so it's quite hard to have a conversation because of the planes if you're thinking of picking this place out for a date/hangout spot. The Mango Coconut Pudding - Taste: 4/10 The mango was disappointing, I had expected a sweet mango to compliment the coconut pudding, but was met with a mediocre, slightly sour mango that topped off as this place promises a "not too sweet" dessert. I personally would have preferred the usage of a sweeter mango such as Alphonso mangoes - The coconut pudding itself wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. It does not have an overwhelmingly coconut taste, it's subtle and mild. The texture is similar to that of a slightly more gelatinous yogurt. The coconut portion of this dessert is supposed to be the main star, however the pairing with this establishment's choice in mangoes causes this dessert to fall short of its potential. The Strawberry Coconut Pudding - Taste: 5/10 I'm not saying these puddings are horrendously inedible, but they could be better. Strawberries are always a hit or miss in terms of sweetness so I'm not deducting points here. The strawberries in combination with the coconut pudding was ok. Between the mango and strawberry coconut pudding that. I got, I would have preferred the coconut pudding on its own, but buying a jar of plain coconut pudding with no toppings besides the optional coconut flakes for $10.50 is outrageous and unjustifiable. The packaging is cute and aesthetically pleasing but I think the pouch is not necessary and they use plastic jars. Indeed that's what they put in their ingredients. "Fresh milk". I wonder what that means. 2- coconut pudding with mango.. the pudding is so light and lightly sweet. You forget you're eating a coconut product in terms of fat content .. it feels like it has few calories because it's so light. I'm not sure which is actually the case. I was intrigued by this place, and convinced my husband to fetch me two that we could try. So off he went to retrieve a peach gum and taro coconut pudding and when he returned, I had mixed feelings... First off, my husband was not impressed with the price and that the container was plastic. I was meh about that. Then we tried both puddings and were not a fan. It was barely sweet, and the flavors were hard to distinguish. Fearing we had just wasted $20 bucks on blah pudding, we tucked them in the fridge to try again tomorrow. Now here is where the story changes: in the morning, before eating breakfast, I opened the fridge and decided to give these puddings another shot. I tried the peach gum and to my astonishment, it tasted better. As I kept eating it, I was able to pick up on the fresh, almost honey-like flavor of the peach gum mixed with the smooth light coconut pudding. The taro had a stronger flavor too, and again, the more I ate it, the more I liked it until suddenly I had eaten them both for breakfast. So what I have learned is that you need to know what you're getting, which is not a sweet dessert. It's also best cold, when the flavors have a chance to meld. But the more you eat it, the more you can appreciate it. Because now I actually crave it! And I deducted one star for that. Yes I get it ordering for delivery will have its taxes and services fees and tips etc etc. so it comes out to be $12-$14 for one it's not too big of a plastic jar either BUT it's very tasty and delicious. Had this place bookmarked for the longest time and finally tried it. Ordered the peach gum with coconut pudding because I've never had peach gum before and it seemed the most unique to Kokonut. Really enjoyed the gummy texture and I loved that the dessert overall wasn't very sweet. It was just the right amount of sweetness for me and refreshing. It comes with a small packet of toasted coconut and it added not just great flavor but also a great crunch. At $9.50 the price for the size is a little steep but the packaging is cute and seems that part of the pricing is because of the extra cost they put into the packaging. The mixed fruit has strawberries, watermelon, honeydew and I think blueberries but you get very little strawberry because of all the other fruit. This place has super cute packing and I really enjoyed the aesthetics portion of it. The pros of this was the coconut pudding with the coconut flakes that the place provided. I thought that was really kind of them to do! The coconut pudding is soft and jello like and melts in your mouth instantly. The coconut flakes adds a crunch texture which brings out the coconut flavor. The only con I had about this was that the strawberries were extremely sour and in my opinion didn't go quite well with the coconut pudding! They were out of the mango one which I thought might've had a better flavor to it. In the end it's really just fruits placed on top of a coconut pudding which isn't anything special but I enjoyed the creativity of this and appreciated the hard work and thought put into it. The first time I tried this, I only got Black Sesame and I actually really liked it and decided to try out the Costa Mesa location. Boy, was I in for a ride. I love that they have a tray of samples to try. That way, you know for sure that whatever you're going to order is what you definitely want. But, that was my downfall. (your typical just right Asian sweetness) When compared to Melo Melo, this place is less sweet. Melo Melo has a different texture of pudding but has dairy. Given the dairy, the sweetness, and the price of Melo Melo (about $26 for matcha red bean and peach gum) versus the $18 for same flavors at Kokonut, I'd rather get Kokonut. Sure you can reuse the jars are Melo Melo, but that still doesnt justify the prices. $9 for one dessert sounds pricey for the simple dessert that it is , but what dessert isn't $10 nowadays when you're considering other simple desserts like acai bowls. I came here recently and was not expecting for it to be located in a business industrial complex. The location and parking lot are dimly lit with no surrounding open businesses which makes it a bit hard to find if you don't know where it is. (the tinted windows also didn't help since after spotting the location, my first thought was that it was already closed) Again, I came in after 7-8pm but there was only one worker and she was already preparing an order for another waiting party, leaving us to wait for an order that had been made online previously. Ordered a number of flavors here (Mixed Fruit, Black Sesame, and Koffee) and all of them left me quite disappointed. The consistency of the pudding is a lot softer with very little bite and they were all also VERY light in flavor. Also, the container is also plastic. (If that matters to you.) Melo Melo, which in my opinion is a significant upgrade to this place, is opening a location close by in Irvine soon. They have a sign at the front of the office door and there's a "Ring" doorbell. Someone will come get you shortly after your ring the doorbell.
