I love Koja. The food here is the perfect blend of modern Korean and Japanese food (hence the name). I don't eat here often since it can be pretty expensive, but it's definitely worth the treat. The teriyaki zen burger is super flavorful and wonderfully paired with the kamikaze fries. They both have a little bit of spice for extra flavor. A great spot for Asian fusion food in Valleyfair! I came here just yesterday and got their combo (a beef a bowl with rice, salad, and Kimchi, a side of their waffle fries and a soda). For me, it's enough for 2 servings, I ate half for dinner and saved half for lunch today. The beef was well seasoned and the spicy sauce on the fries were great. Although I frequently visit Valley Fair for my work, I always avoided the food court no matter how many free samples they handed me. Not Sarku Japan, certainly not Sushiritto, and not even Super Duper had enough to entice me to give it a shot. Leave it to KoJa Kitchen to make me finally break this trend. When I saw the under construction sign a few months back where the ill fated Noodle Company once stood, my interest was piqued. In the past, when I actually felt like eating at KoJa, I would visit the Moorpark or Brokaw locations, or even the brand new one in Cupertino. Now, I won't have to stray very far. The one drawback is that all of the items here are a good $1 more expensive than at other outposts, but this is understandable, given the high rent at the mall. However, one might assume that the lower overhead would help offset the cost, but it is not really that big of a deal in the whole scheme of things. As per usual, my normal orders are the gluten free short rib bowl or beef bowl, with brown rice, and sometimes a fried egg. Gluten free offerings are definitely a blessing, as they are often hard to find in the mall. For the short rib bowl, to make it gluten free, the masago is removed, and for the beef bowl, it's the masago plus red sauce. The aioli sauce that comes with the short rib doesn't contain any gluten, so if I order the beef bowl, I always ask them to substitute that instead. They always kindly oblige if they don't suggest it first themselves. I've visited a plethora of locations around the Bay, and KoJa has never failed to deliver. Franchises are typically wildly inconsistent when it comes to taste, but I am quite impressed with the food quality at all of the branches as a whole, and this one is more of the same goodness. Service at this particular spot is hit and miss depending on who is working. The girls at the register are normally decently polite, but not particularly chatty or smily. Perhaps it's because I go fairly late in the evening, and they are just about ready to tap out for the night. Given the choice, to avoid all of the noise and chaos at the mall, I'd still prefer to dine at one of the surrounding sit down KoJa Kitchens for overall comfort, but for the sheer convenience, this is certainly a welcome addition to the food court. read more

In my opinion, the proportion of rice buns to meat lends itself to having some bland bites where most of the bite is plain rice. I'm not sure what the fix would be to this though, as the sandwich is already hard to fit in your mouth as is. Also, the sandwich was definitely on the pricey side, but the quality ingredients probably play into that. Not sure if it'd be my go-to especially if on a budget, as I wasn't "wow"ed by it.
