Katsuyaki had been on my list to try for a little while and I finally decided to pick up some food for lunch as a pick me up in between work. They are tucked away in a plaza near the industrial area in Santa Clara. I saw that they had a few more options than I saw online/Yelp, which was nice. I ordered the bbq beef and chicken katsu bento and a side of California rolls togo (about $25 before tip). When I got my food, I felt like the portions were quite smaller than I expected, especially for the price. The food itself was pretty good and I was pleasantly surprised by how nice the California rolls tasted and complemented the meal. The service was nice and I got my food within 5 minutes. Overall besides the price, it was a good experience and I can see why people would stop by for lunch during the work week.
This place is added to my list of reliable takeout lunch spots! You can't go wrong with some katsu or teriyaki from here. I recommend the beef teriyaki, which is thinly sliced and you gotta drown it in sauce! Definitely a guilty pleasure. They also have California rolls here, which I was skeptical about... but when it's $7, it's a nice side dish. The katsu is definitely the winner here! Fried well and not overly crispy. It has a good crunch and pairs well with the classic katsu sauce and rice. I will definitely try out their praised katsu burger next time :)
The dining area was clean and modern looking. The menu was easy to read and order. The portion size of the katsu bowl was small for the price paid. The food was served in black plastic disposable bowls and was warm, not hot. The flavor was fair and nothing special. They could've provided more than 2 small pieces of broccoli in the bowl. The texture of the chicken was strange and I questioned to myself if I was even eating chicken. The katsu sauce was sweet with an artificial type flavor. Would not go back.
It's gotten better IMHO. I ordered #6 combo with beef teriyaki and chicken katsu plus it comes with Cali roll and a gyoza. Service was friendly and they even offered a sample of the chicken curry katsu since they're trying to offer new items and testing. Get beyond the plain store front, the food is good and pleasant place to grab a bite in this part of town by the airport. Bathroom area needs a bit of refreshing to match the front of house. Enjoy!
Last time I was here was probably 11-12 years ago when it was still known as Ed's Teriyaki. When it was Ed's, it was delicious. Last I left off with Ed's Teriyaki was that they would be closing after the original owners were going to retire. Word on the street was that the son seemed ambivalent (at the time) whether he'd want to continue the restaurant or not, and that was it. I haven't checked in with the business and totally glossed over the fact that it was known as "Greenfish" and only now as "Katsuyaki". I got the beef teri and although it was good (although I'd say it was a bit too salty now), I don't remember it hitting nearly as good as it was when it was Ed's. Maybe that's just my own bias, but Ed's was something I'd write home about. Katsuyaki? I'd be happy and think it was good, though not sure if I'd write home about it. Also their hours are only from 10am-2pm which I get it they probably know their customer traffic well and there were some days back when it was Ed's when it was totally dead there but it might be because of their location and people really have to plan when they want to visit here to eat. Overall it was ok, if you want to experience any remnants of Ed's then at least you can with Katsuyaki, I'm sure they handed the original recipes over now but whether it translates to still being good or not I'd say it's debatable. Though I do want to clarify it certainly isn't bad.
I had visited this restaurant as Ed's Teriyaki a number of times over the years and this is the first time as Katsuyaki. I was craving for a japanese bento box dinner and so I decided to try this place. I placed my order online and ordered a chicken and beef teriyaki combo bento meal. Fortunately it was not too far from my home so I made a quick trip there. Upon arriving I remembered that parking can be an adventure. The space is very tight, there are not a lot of spaces, and it is one way in and out. Inside I noticed there were only 3 tables occupied but most people ordered take out. I went to the counter and picked up my order. Once home, I opened my order and it looked pretty good. One problem that stood out was the side salad. It was supposed to be a miso salad with grilled cabbage and broccoli. Instead it was a lettuce and some cabbage salad with no dressing at all. I started on the meal and another thing became quite obvious. The chicken and beef was drenched in teriyaki sauce that was super sweet. I could barely taste the proteins. I think they should be a little more light handed with the teriyaki sauce. If you wipe away the excess, you can taste the teriyaki grill flavors on the chicken and beef. Fortunately, the meats were grilled almost perfectly allowing the meats to remain quite moist and tasty. I noticed that the price was about $1.50 more if ordered online. Since there was a small number of patrons in the restaurant I think next time I will just drive up and order to-go.
My coworkers took me here for lunch. Everyone seem to really enjoy their orders. I got a chicken katsu bento box ($18). The chicken katsu have a nice batter outside, while being juicy and tasty. Their sauce for the katsu was also tasty. The portion is quite small for the price, but at least we didn't get a food comma when we come back to work.
Just three words for you. BEEF. KATSU. BURGER. You wouldn't expect a small ma & pa shop that specializes in teriyaki to make such dang good burgers. Their spicy beef katsu burger is mindblowingly tasty, although I didn't find it spicy at all. I would come back here for the burger alone. The beef patty is thick with a beautiful golden crispy exterior. The meat is really juicy and quite flavorful on its own. The bread bun is pillowly soft and soaks up that nice beef juice without becoming too soggy. The melty cheese, fresh tomato and lettuce and acidity of the pickles all tie up the burger nicely. Their menu lists pepperjack cheese in the ingredients but my cheese was yellow, likely cheddar cheese- no complaints here, just something to note. The garlic fries are a great option for a side dish to your burger. Lots of potato-y taste with a light crisp exterior. The garlic flavor was subtle, not too strong. As a huge garlic fan, I would have liked more garlic flavor but it was still really enjoyable. Now the beef & chicken teriyaki plate is your standard teriyaki meal. The chicken is cooked well but drenched in their sweet and a bit overly salty teriyaki sauce. I do wish the chicken was moist and had a more smoky char to it. The beef is tender and a bit more fatty than the chicken which is probably why I enjoyed it more. I think the dish could be improved with a bed of cabbage to soak up all that delicious sauce and given a bigger serving of rice. The sauce was a bit overwhelming so a bigger portion of rice is needed to balance out the salt. Pro tip: Get a side of their in house made spicy sauce for 50 cents! It makes a huge difference and adds a mild kick of flavor to the meat. Located in an older part of Santa Clara behind the airport, Katsuyaki is tucked away in a long established building with its own private parking lot in front. They offer a variety of teriyaki plates, chicken katsu burgers, and even sushi platters. Service is very friendly and personable. Our food took less than 10 minutes to come out and it was presented nicely. Prices are reasonable for what you get. Such simple ingredients, yet their beef katsu burger is such a showstopper. Their teriyaki dishes will satisfy your teriyaki cravings but I didn't find anything too special about them. I would come here again!
Looking for a quick work lunch in Santa Clara and found this spot on Yelp. It's set in a strip mall in an out of the way area. The menu is written on the wall- good variety of options, prices aren't bad. Food is ordered at the counter and you're given a number. I ordered the bento #5, chicken katsu and teriyaki. Came with rice and a small salad. Good size portion, nice sauce- all good.
So good 1500/10 please support their business. Everything is made well, service is fast, prices are quite reasonable as well.
This place is good but not amazing! Portions are perfect size. Not too much not too little. The sauce was delicious on it. It did need a little more sauce so I did add on some teriyaki but overall it was good.

We came across this place purely by chance today. We were driving around looking for lunch with no particular cuisine in mind, when my companion suggested katsu. It had a been a minute since I last had a katsu, so I was game. A quick Yelp search turned up Katsuyaki, just a few minutes away from our current location. This place is easy to overlook. It's built into the ground floor of a small apartment building, with just a small sign indicating its presence. In fact, I drove past it at first and had to double back around. As we entered, we were greeted by the friendly woman at the counter who guided us through the menu and made suggestions. It's nice to go to a place where you interact with actual people and not a kiosk. They offer a nice variety of options: teriyaki and katsu, either individually or in combination, served as a bento or a bowl; bibimbap, katsu burgers, some side dishes, and a couple limited time offerings (I believe). Just a couple items today: Katsu curry bowl - very hot rice and a nice spicy curry (not excessively piquant, however). There was a generous cut of chicken katsu that crispy and moist. There were just a few florets of broccoli; it would have been nice to have a little more. Tori katsu burger, not spicy - nice thick and moist slab of chicken katsu served on a soft brioche bun with tomato, sweet pickles, red onions, and a little bit of slaw. Delicious, wouldn't change a thing about it. Fries were hot and crisp. Prices were good, about $14 each (the burger combo included a drink). Very pleased with this accidental discovery; we will definitely be back. read more
It's been a very long time since I have been to this teriyaki spot. It's changed a few times and seemed to try to figure out its identity. I had the Spicy Katsu Burger Deluxe. The katsu had a great crunch and I enjoyed the slaw on top. It wasn't spicy at all. Actually, I didn't taste much heat at all. The bun was good, but the bottom bun got soggy. The fries tasted really good. They had a great crunch and soft inside. Only negative is I didn't understand what value the deluxe option gave. I asked if the "deluxe" meant larger and they said yes. Honestly, they only give you a little bit of fries. If your customer is paying the deluxe combo price, make it worth their while. I will definitely be back again. read more

Located in an industrial area, I personally have never seen or heard of this place. I went because I was nearby and got the katsuburger. It comes in a box that has separate spots for the onion and cole slaw. The burger was FIRE. I would come again. Nice crunch to it and amazing flavor. It did take a while to get my food, but it was worth the wait. read more

I love this place! They've got excellent food, great service, and reasonable prices. The staff here are VERY welcoming and they even gave us a sample of their katsu burger while we waited for our food. You can tell that the staff here make their food with love. I've only gotten their sushi here which definitely exceeded my expectations. Next time I'll try their teriyaki plates! read more
3.5 stars overall but rounding up for large portions for reasonable prices, and delicious katsu! I've had Greenfish Teriyaki Cafe on my list for a while, and finally had the chance to stop by and pick up food. I placed my order around 5:30pm on a Thursday, and it was ready in about 10 minutes. I tried: -#8: Chicken Teriyaki, Beef Teriyaki & Chicken Katsu Combo (w/Rice, Coleslaw, Broccoli, $13.95, https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=g-3uAo0aDaTnFzvx8Vo0zw&userid=76vIFZcC7owykCBjMfGVXg): Surprisingly, the chicken katsu was my favorite, as it managed to have a crispy crust without drying out the chicken. Their tonkatsu sauce for the katsu was delicious, and one of the best tonkatsu sauces I've had in a while. The beef teriyaki was also solid, and their teriyaki sauce was really good- not too sweet and a great consistency. The chicken teriyaki was good but my least favorite since they use white meat and I prefer dark meat. However, this combo was GIANT, and enough for a least 2 meals- recommended! -California Roll (8pcs/$5, https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=YSLOIAWt7hfNjfhpvWN_sg&userid=76vIFZcC7owykCBjMfGVXg): Just ok since the imitation crab didn't have enough mayo mixed in for me, but these pieces were GIANT. This is how katsu is truly done! We love making katsu at home, but there's something about their 20-year-old secret Katsu sauce recipe that literally will have us coming back forever LOL. We have not had a katsu burger or katsu as good as this in San Jose ever, it's really surprising that this place hasn't blown up yet! Their beef and chicken teriyaki plates are also good, but we really love the katsu burgers and katsu plate here, esp the spicy one! Between yummy hawaiian buns, the katsu burger is so flavorful, crispy, juicy, and well-balanced with their tasty cole slaw too! Though we did not have the stomach space to try it, they also have sushi here because they run a sushi catering company as well! They've even done catering for people like Angelina Jolie and Bill Clinton We didn't expect that considering this place seems quite underrated on Yelp, but the quality of the food is there! read more
First time a Greenfish was a success, and I can definitely say I will be back. Food was really good, and came at a very reasonable price. I was pleasantly surprised by the protein portions provided as well as the taste. Stopped in on a whim with a coworker, and now I'm a little upset I didn't find out about this place sooner. It's slightly off the beaten path, but very close to my office. I honestly challenge you to find a better deal in the bay. I think the only thing in my mind keeping this from being a 5 Star experience was that there wasn't an option (that I saw) that included fried rice. read more

Looking for great portions for a great price? Look no further! Katsuyaki offers giant plates of katsu and chicken/beef teriyaki and super unique fried beef burgers! I was super impressed with how juicy and flavorful the burger was and how crunchy and fresh the chicken katsu was. The beef teriyaki was great with the spicy sauce but was a little bit on the sweet side by itself. I'd definitely come back for a chicken katsu plate and a burger. Super friendly owner and lotsa seating inside. Quick service and great prices for all the food you get! read more
Since I was in the area shopping at Costco on Coleman Ave., I met a friend, who works in the area, for lunch. Apparently, this is the place to lunch at if you want a quick and solid-performing Americanized teriyaki food for a fair price. When I arrived, there was a short line, but it moved quickly because the menu is not extensive. Moreover, there is plenty of seating, help-yourself water and condiments, service with a smile, and the place is clean. As you can see by the photo, my chicken teriyaki plate for $8.45 came with a good amount of chicken with sauce, a bowl of rice, 1 broccoli flowerette, and side of coleslaw. For a $1 more you can get the beef teriyaki plate which is good, but I liked the chicken more. Since I only ate half my food, I asked for a cover for my plate so I can have the leftovers for later. Parking is limited, but there is a high turnover. read more

My favorite teriyaki place hands down! Love love love their chicken & beef spicy combo plate! It's just enough spicy flavor for it to hit the spot (mild). I initially started going to this place like 13 years ago or more when it was located on Union & Curtner Ave. It relocated here and switched owners BUT the teriyaki sauce has never disappointed. I'm so glad they now have the option to order on-line & deliver! && new food items too! I got my coworkers hooked on it... I highly recommend it, it won't disappoint. I no longer live in SJ but whenever I crave a teriyaki plate, I will make the trip out to this place. The owners are super nice too! I always order the same thing and this last time I went, they gave me a sample of their chicken Katsu with their new sauce. It was DELICIOUS! I heard from a co worker they had tried it before & it was a bit dry but it looks like they added/changed the sauce bc it was GREAT! My coworker re-tried it and said he liked it Give this place a try! Reasonable prices & friendly owners&staff. My previous review was for Ed's Teriyaki. Today was the first time I tried Katsuyaki. The teriyaki sauce is on par with what you would expect of a teriyaki sauce: sweet with a hit of salty umami. The chicken was juicy, not dry like other places. I got the combo with katsu and I really liked the katsu sauce they served it with which was tangy. The coleslaw was also very nice. The only thing which is not food related is that the parking is quite tight. Their street parking is fully packed when I went on a Friday lunch hour. read more

My girlfriend and I were driving around Santa Clara wanting to try a place that we have not been to yet. We stumbled across Katsuyaki while driving and overall the parking is not that bad. Upon entering Katsuyaki, we saw the menu on the huge wall which is very convenient for people entering the place. My girlfriend and I ordered Chicken Katsu and Chicken Teriyaki plate. They also had Katsu burgers which we did not try yet since we were craving some rice that day. Chicken Katsu was flavored great and same for the Chicken Teriyaki. Personally, I would order the Chicken Katsu again and maybe next time try their Katsu burgers. Overall, dining in is very spacious, parking is viable upon entering, and food is good. read more
