It's a good place to have your wedding banquet and I hadn't had some of these dishes they ordered for the banquet in ages, like shark fin's soup, roast suckling pig with crispy skin, lobster fruit salad (very unusual but tasty), sea cucumber with vegetable and abalone. If your party is bigger than 13 or so there's a possibility that you can sit in the private room but you have to typically get a reservation. Anyhow , my friend group and I we come here for birthdays Lunar New Year Chinese New Year but also for our holiday parties. We're able to order a variety and large amount of food in a dim sum Style but yet family style and get plenty of variety and lots of things to eat. Some are favorites include the xlb, the lava buns, the chicken feet, among the crispy chow mein to many other dishes. The food comes hot and ready and relatively quickly as this restaurant gets very busy. If you really want to come here you better come here at least 20 minutes early for parking but also be standing at the podium if you want to see your large group. read more

The BEST value banquet hall for large parties in the Bay Area. I hosted a wedding banquet here for 100 people and the price, flexibility, and food were all top notch. Shoutout to Joe Xu for being the best restaurant manager!! We got Menu B which was $60 per person for 10 courses including pork, beef, duck, abalone, and custard buns. All the food came out hot and fresh for 10 tables and there was SO much food that everyone had leftovers. Joe was super responsive and accommodating to all our requests like chilling alcohol ahead of time and last minute headcount changes. I used to frequent this place years ago when it used to be ABC/ Mayflower and I still come to this place every time I dare to deal with the wait or the parking. :) Stopped by here for a family dinner and was sure to make reservations beforehand to make it easier. Place is beautifully decorated and the service is fast and friendly. I love the variety of dishes they have and that they are always well seasoned compared to most places that are always too salty. One of my favorite dishes is the beef steak with mushroom saute. It comes with a very nice rich black bean sauce and the perfect textured, mushrooms and green beans. Though the menu is quite extensive, there's probably something for everyone on here but do know it is a little pricier but the quality is top notch. Service is average, typically for a Cantonese restaurant. They have a large selection of dim sum and food is very good in general. The BBQ meats are also excellent. Some brief notes: 流沙包 and the har gow are okay, as is the abalone hor fun. The noodles themselves are fine but the abalone is small. That said, the gai lan is stir-fried well to keep a its beautiful greenery. 鳳爪--soft, chewy, meat comes off easily. 咖啡排骨--very good. crispy. Good coffee flavor, and I would come back for this. I just wish that the sauce might be poured over the top after plating; this ensures that it's distributed better. 空心菜 executed well. Pity about the grey broth, but I prioritize flavor over appearance, and I've always like the hollow stem texture. 山竹牛肉球--good texture. Bouncy. Always a dim sum favorite. The 腸粉 in general have good rice texture; it's has a bit of a bite and isn't soggy. I like the default (youtiao keeps crispiness and adds contrast). Pork 粥 forgettable, but does the job. Tried Koi Palace (Milpitas) a few times and even their boujee location in Cupertino. Both are really good but if you don't care too much about the fancy items then this location is still very much satisfying. This location can get really packed so the safest bet is getting there right when they open. They have online reservations through Yelp but the morning of might not be available and only during the evening. If you plan eating early then it's best to go when they open. The line starts to form even before they open. Shrimp Rice Rolls - good texture and taste. Har Gow - I would say the same regarding taste and texture. dough is nice and chewy. Sampan Style Crispy Har Gow - deep friend har gow? How interesting and good! Had these the very first visit and would order again. Shui Mai - good. always a must order. Pork Dumplings in Chili Sauce - I didn't care too much for these here. Peking Style Steam Chive Pork Dumpling - one of my favorites on the menu! I could order a few rounds of just this. Rainbow Sampler Shanghai Dumplings - these are a must order every single time. I thought regular XLB were it (they still can be!) but to try different flavors for each soup dumpling is fun and delicious. It comes with 6 different flavors and ALL very good but my absolute favorite is their squid ink black truffle. Con - the carrot they place under the dumpling. I understand why (so the soup dumplings do not stick to the spoon) but it does have a carrot after taste. The spoon gives it a nice aesthetic and convenient for the soup inside but it's extremely hot to pick up. The dumpling itself could be cooled down enough to eat but the spoon is still so hot. This is such a great place to get your dim sum fix because they have so many options. Including some unique items can't find anywhere else. Delicious fares, good decor, attentive services. Yes, it is a dim sum place. For that, it is loud and busty. This place has also shown a bit age in worn carpet and bathroom facilities. If we overlook those, it remains the top choice for lunch dim sum for me. Decor is elegant, catering more to Chinese. The tea was served in two stages: a steeping pot and nice porcelain tea pot sitting on top of a warming tea candle base. That's really nice. (The tea itself was ordinary.) The Durian puffs were excellent (for those into Durian). They were a whole piece of Durian wrapped in a thin crispy pastry dough. Warmed to perfection! That's what earned this place the 5th star! Then the Gui Fei Clam Sauce Vermicelli" 貴妃蚌煎米粉 was simply superb. The vermicelli was fried crispy and the filling was flavorful, rich, and tender. Oh, that's the 2nd reason for the 5th star. The rest of the dim sum dishes were good, but less extraordinary. The creative Sesame Egg Tart were not that impressive as the sesame aroma was weak and overpowered by eggs. It's rare that I eat and not take photos. I was hungry which explains the latter. I used to rave about this restaurant prior to my Yelp days. I don't know what happened but I'm not impressed with their Peking duck and Roast pork royale. Service was adequate on a Saturday late lunch (~2pm). Our party of 6 was seated immediately and they even asked us if we wanted a larger table. This used to be the fancy Chinese restaurant that you proudly take your out of town guests. For this area, it's between Koi, Mayflower or H&L Peninsula. Here's my quick breakdown. My apologies for no photos this time. + Service is lightning fast on this day. They even gave us 2 pots of tea, and my water refilled timely. Their kitchen closes at 3pm but we didn't feel rushed. (5 stars) + Ambiance is not as fancy as H&L but spacious tables and seating arrangements make it a good place to chat with out of town guests. (4 stars) + Dim sum here is on the pricey side but the picture menu is helpful and everything dim sum related is great except... (3.5 stars) - Shanghai dumplings' skin were too thick and barely any soup and meat because of it. (2.5 stars) - Peking duck this time was disappointing lacking flavor around the skin and a little fatty instead of the usual crisp. (2 stars) - Pork royale is their version of roast pork that you see hanging at Chinese bbq places. Here it is on the leaner side which I normally don't mind but it also lacked flavor and the pork meat had an off-sour taste. I didn't get sick so maybe it's just their way of preparing it. (2 stars) - Vegetable dish the wifey ordered had this watery/creamy soup around it and some fancy bean that I did not enjoy. (1 star) I may just come back solely for their dim sum. I made reservations on Yelp a few days before, and we were seated right away when we arrived. The restaurant was clean and spacious. It later got super packed and almost all tables were filled up. I totally forgot to take pictures of the dishes because we started eating right away as it came out. There were no carts, and you place your order on the menu they gave you. We ordered Shrimp dumplings, sea scallop dumplings, shrimp pork mushroom dumplings, crab rice sea bass dumplings, shanghai dumplings, and a few other dim sum dishes. Something that just wasn't it for me: their XLBs were extremely sweet and didn't have enough soup. Their green beans were extremely salty, like someone dumped spoonfuls of salt on them. In contrast, their preserved egg and pork congee was too salt-less! Lacked a lot of flavor. I love how they have tea pots, then they give you an extra pot of water with a little candle under to keep it warm until you're ready to refill your teapot! For 4 people, the bill came out to be about $200 total after tax and tip, which isn't bad considering how much we ordered! On another note, the actual restaurant itself was pretty looking! Modernized interior and decor, clean chairs... but their bathroom was a little janky. One of the sinks didn't work and it didn't look like it had been thoroughly cleaned in a while. I grew up coming to Koi Palace for Sunday morning dim sum, but it had been a long time. I can't remember ever coming for dinner. It was one of the few restaurants we could reserve ahead of time for 7 people, which was nice. The dinner menu is all entrees, and there are a few dim sum items listed under Appetizers. We ordered the siu mai, har gow, roasted duck (half), yang chow fried rice, crispy noodles with seafood and green beans. Stand-outs were the duck and crispy noodles. Service was a bit slow since they were accommodating large parties (looked like a wedding reception). It's also pretty noisy and hard to so we were shouting across the table a bit. For 6 adults, the total came out to around 36$ person (and we took home leftovers). Not the cheapest, but it's nice for a group occasion. At the end of the day, we would come back for the food, especially if we have a big group. The breakfast/lunch dim sum carts are probably more fun though. read more

My husband and I came over for lunch on weekend. We got a numbered ticket and there were 6 tables before us. The wait was 20 minutes which was not too bad. We grabbed the menu and decided on the food before getting seated. Waiter greeted us by asking what tea we would like to drink. It's $2 to $3 per person depending on whether you would like regular or premium qulity tea. I later saw the menu that even for hot water it's $1.5 per person. We got our tea immediately served and first dish on the table within 10/15 minutes after ordering which was pretty fast. We both found the dishes good and some even amazing. I ranked my most favourite to my least below. Crab Roe Sea Bass Dumplings (5/5)- as a seafood lover, I had a hard time making up my mind on Whole Maine Lobster Steamed Dumplings & Fried Claws, Crab Roe Sea Bass Dumplings and seafood options in the noodle and rice section. I finally decided to do the Crab Roe so my husband and I could enjoy a variety of other options as well. There were three dumplings and each came with a finger tip size sea bass. It's filled with umami flavor and tasted very refreshing. I loved it. Roasted Duck Burrito (5/5) - essentially roasted duck with cucumber and green onions prepacked in crispy pancake served with sweet sauce. It's the most hassle free dish if you would like eat peking duck but do not want to do even the minimal work :P. Two long burritos each cut in 3 peaces and it was fresh and tastey. Pan Fried Waterchestnut Cake (4/5) - it was hot when served and the pan fried side was crisp. I recommend eating it after some time. I had chilled waterchestnut cake before and thought it was better than hot. Rainbow sampler Shanghai Dumplings (3.5/5) - this dish took a long time 30 to 40 minutes to come to the table. I would order just the original flavored one for my next visit. Salted & Pepper Squid (3.5/5) - my expectation for seafood is high. Although this dish's freshness and texture were pretty good. I stil would like it to be more flavorful. Probably would hit a 4 if I was not that picky. String Beans with Pork, Garlic, and Shrimp Spice (3/5) - serviced hot but string beans were bit soggy. I came here on a Thursday morning 11:30a for a company lunch. The parking was a little confusing but I eventually made it up the stairs to find the restaurant. My coworkers ordered the works - lobster pasta (supposedly a wedding favorite), BBQ pork, crab soup dumplings, sautéed Chinese broccoli, shrimp wontons, pork buns to name a few. The food was fresh, came out very fast, and not too salty! My favorite items were the BBQ pork (the best I have ever had) and the shrimp and mushroom dumplings. First review for me for this place was a few years pre-2020. And it was a dinner outing, which I actually liked. I'd say 85% of their reviews are for the day hours doing dim sum. Well I finally tried a daytime dim sum outing recently so let's jot down some notes for that. I will say that having tried both now, I still prefer a night outing here and do a dinner. It is simply more of my speed. So recently I get invited to do a legit dim sum outing. And I'm talking about a table of 10, all Asians, a few even being fluent Mandarin speakers, during a weekend afternoon. I mean this was an occasion that I normally wouldn't plan for myself, and since I was just an invite, I hopped on just to see. First off weekends are absolute CRAY here. From 10am to about 3pm this place will be absolutely filled. Good luck finding parking. If you come at those hours, be prepared to wait for a table. The good is they are really good at turning tables and most will not have to wait more than 30 minutes. And everyone here is so accepting of that, that they'll do it with zero eyerolls. And once in you'll be in a room with almost 300 people and when seated will be almost elbow to elbow. Remember all the rules we had obey during the covid years, well this is the complete opposite. Lol. Bask in the ambiance. I think 2-3 peeps did the ordering in my group. I told them that I was pretty adventurous, and I was no stranger to this type of eating, so don't hold back on the ordering. And we ordered so much that I think I only tried like 50-60% of the stuff as I was literally only eating at what was within easy reach of me. And I still got crazy full. Just an absolute feeding frenzy. Also I won't be including any pricing with this review as I didn't even look at a menu nor a bill. Lucky me yes?!! Har Gow (3*) Tasted great but wrapper torn as I picked it up. Not sure if it was too mushy or just not sealed too tightly. Kind of a bummer when the filling drops out onto your small plate. Boiled Tripe (2*) Cut into uniform frilly strips. But so...so...so plain. I'm fond of tripe preps but I think it is a cut that is best when stewed/braised in a flavorful sauce. Like menudo or when the french braises it with mirepoix and herbs d' provence, the tripe absorbs those flavors like a sponge. Here it tasted like it was cooked in just water. So strange since Chinese cooking usually understands those principles. I think there was a thickish sauce on the side, but since there were so many things on our table, I couldn't tell what went with what. So as is, this was not special at all. Fried Tofu Skin with Shrimps (4*) Crazy crisp if eaten warm, but as it sits it can become plastic-like. I do like these now as I think I only tried them within this last year. But timing of eating is crucial. Rice Roll with Shrimp (4.5*) This is about as good as this dish gets. The wrapper is silky smooth with just a tad of bounce. Filled with nice hunks of shrimp and the sauce was light and complementing. Chinese Broccoli (4*) Super al dente and vibrant. Left whole so a bit awkward to eat as you had to pick up a big stem of a vegetable and take bites of it while trying to keep it on the chopsticks. Lol. But that's just me. Dried Scallop Fried Rice (5*) I'd say perfectly executed. I usually get this for my dinner outs so I'm pretty familiar with this dish. Daikon Cakes (2*) Did not like the flavor or the texture. Almost tasted like there were durian in it, like something was spoiled. Definitely just my taste as others ate it and did not leave it on their plate like I did. Lol Chicken Feet (4.5*) Crazy good and tender with a lot of 'padding' on those claws. These were PHAT. Seemed fried first as it had this coating on the outside like fried chicken. But since it was all braised til tender all the coating was basically mush, but tasty sauce covered mush. Some Braised Pork Dish (4*) Super tender and fatty succulent pieces of pork with the skin attached. Almost looked like it was roasted first then braised, cuz the skin was not crisp all wet and tender. Sauce was like a braised sweetish soy and there were a bed of small white beans on the bottom of the plate, which I've never seen from a Chinese restaurant. I think this was the only thing that I hadn't really seen before and was probably from a 'Specials' Sheet. I think I tried an egg tart too, but I was so full towards the end that I really couldn't remember much anymore. I'm sure it was fine, but not special as I would have remembered it. All I remember at that point was to get home ASAP before the food coma hit. And when I got home sure enough it hit hard. Great afternoon nap and another epic dim sum outing in the books. Service is depends on the waiter or assistant manager. Most are very friendly but they are understaffed for the amount of business being handled. Food is always delicious. They have fancy modern take on traditional Hong Kong style dim sum. Some are creative and tastes really good. Some are too fusion for me. A really good place for Cantonese dim sum. Service is good. The place is very clean and the ambiance is that of a huge dining hall for dim sum. Very good dishes, and while not at the top for every dish they did have some amazing flavors. It looks like we will have to go try some other items on the menu. Meanwhile, while overall a decent experience, ther were items that could be better. The congee was just ok in flavor and required putting extra pickled vegetables and peanuts and white pepper to make it actually flavorful, which is odd when you think of the ox tails in it would have made a very tasty broth. The custard pies just are lacking in lamination...not very flaky. The greens were basically just pan fried with little flavor. The fried tofu was very soft on the interior but the exterior was just a little firmer than the interior, where I was expecting a bit of crunch. The shao long bao soup dumplings seemed to have very little soup, even though served individually in small aluminum foil pastry pockets, and there was not so full of flavor. I came in for a quick lunch. I didn't know exactly what to expect but it felt classy I didn't really want to walk to far in with my orange vest but the matradé was very inviting . After it took me way too long to decide what I wanted. She said it would take 20 minutes and I I didn't have the time because I'm so indecisive. I asked her if I could get the one that would come out the quickest and she went to the back and said it don't take 10 minutes. They did it in less than five. I had ordered dim sum. This place is awful. Food was terrible. I ordered soy chicken and rice roll. Both the worst you can get. Service is very bad. They charge 18% service charge which they don't deserve at all. They charge for hot water too! This is probably the only restaurant which charge for hot water. I have been many restaurants including many high end. Most of them even offer lemon or honey when I ask for hot water. Hope this restaurant go out of business soon. Dirty stein all over the carpet.
