I went there on late Friday afternoon to use the coupon from crowcut that I got a little while back. It was almost 2 pm on Friday afternoon. The restaurant was not crowded, so the service was nice and prompt. My meal started with 'must try calamari'. The dish came with two kinds of dipping sauce; one, i think, was a sriracha-mayonnaise, which was nice and spicy, but the other one tasted kinda weird with orange flavor. The calamari should actually be called 'forget it calamari'. It was small, dry, and chewy. I felt like eating deep-fried dried calamari but not fresh calamari. It was so tasteless that i had to dip the calamari with the spicy mayo over and over again. After I was done with the calamari, it left me a yucky feeling in my stomach. Then I ordered the Chirashi bowl. It was quite nicely presented. The bowl came with two pieces of several basic fish .. salmon, tuna, white tuna, yellow tail, saba, red snapper (?), kani, and tamago, and also garnished with sliced cucumbers, sliced oranges, sliced lemon, pickled ginger, pickled radish, some greens, tobiko, and packed sushi rice at the bottom of the bowl. Everything tasted decent .. not spectacular, which i guess because I still had the yucky feeling in my stomach from that yucky calamari. Im not sure if i would come back for sushi, but i saw quite a handful of ppl having fun at the hibachi table, so maybe hibachi is the hi-light for this place. read more

Perfection!! Been going there for years and every time is great, my 6 year old loves it there. Great for entire family.

Today we went to Kobe (one of our families favorites). I have to eat soy and gluten free due to a chronic condition I have and I was really nervous. I brought my own coconut aminos and spoke to the staff before we all sat down. They were so kind and didn't make me feel awkward or overly high maintenance for asking them to cook with my sauce. The waiter actually had my hibachi meal made in back and brought it out as everyone else's was being cooked, even the yummy friend rice! The chef and waiter let me know about every item and helped ensure I could eat them without getting sick! Thanks so much and for not making it a big deal. Location and parking was convenient. Host and waitress fast, friendly and attentive. Drinks: alcohol free piña colada not so good. The mix tasted like it was straight from the bottle and blended with chunks of ice that would not go up the straw. Thus it tasted "fake" and watery. The volcano drink was much better. Good mix of flavors and they did not go easy on the alcohol. Sushi: Kobe roll: you can't go wrong with Kobe steak and sushi. It was a bit pricier than the other rolls cause we wanted to try something different. It had good crunch on the end pieces but the middle bunch was lacking texture, giving the bite a bit mushy. Black dragon roll: boy were they quite generous with the topped with eel portion of the sushi. The roll itself had a good kick to it from the jalepeno, which was very fresh and crunchy. Green tea roll: our favorite and would def get it again. The fish tasted very fresh and it was a good variety of pieces that melted in your mouth. Overall good experience. We intended to try the sake flight, but the waitress came back telling us the choices we wanted were not available, so we opted for different drinks. read more

Really enjoyed dining in here a couple of months ago, so I ordered takeout expecting the same quality. The scallop sashimi has sand in it, so much to the point that I didn't want to eat it. The shrimp fried rice had literally three, tasteless shrimp and nothing else - barely any egg, no carrots no peas no scallions - nothing. Just rice and soy sauce. We went there last night for the first time. The ambiance is lovely and the food was good as well. Unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired. We sat at the empty bar-top for over five minutes before someone said they'd be back to help us. Several minutes later the server came up from behind and asked if we were ready. I was disappointed that we weren't greeted with "How are you," or anything polite or inviting. After that only one drink was delivered and we had to remind the server of the other beverage. Still, the bartender/server (she was doing it all, and alone) carried on making drinks for the service well and we waited another several minutes for the drink. It became very clear that our server was slammed. She was overwhelmed and unable to catch up because no one was helping out. Turns out our server was very friendly and polite, but considering the barback was standing still, like a statue, almost the entire time we were there (I would be livid if he was on my payroll) and her manager was also standing at the bar watching the Gopher football game, she had no support whatsoever. Even the serving staff would come to the bar and loiter by the corner in plain sight and do nothing. I was disheartened to see such a lack of teamwork, especially from the manager, who was completely disengaged with his team and uninterested in actually working. It's really sad to see a lazy manager, aloof and unconcerned about the restaurant, and the team taking full advantage and slacking off. read more

The BF & I ate here on a Sunday afternoon, around 3pm. It was quiet, maybe one other party of 2 in the restaurant. Two other parties of 2 came as we were leaving. Despite the quietness... the food was made fast. We are simple people so that may have had something to do with it. I ordered the Udon noodles with Chicken. The noodles were so yummy and creamy. I never had udon noodles before, but these were fun to eat. I also ordered the 6 rolls of spicy tuna and they sure do pack the tuna in! :) BF ordered 1 tuna and 2 salmon rolls and they were generous with the fish; which always make me happy to see him happy. I like their quality of fish and would drive a little further west on Rockford Road as some sushi places in the area are stingy with the fish portion and over priced. We ordered sushi (online) and it arrived in 45 minutes - that's less time than a pizza from some places. Very good sushi! Not the absolute best in the twin cities, but pretty darn good. Staff is very nice every time I'm in I highly recommend getting a reservation for the hibachi grill because it tastes so much better than if you pick a table and the chefs in back make it and it comes out cold sometimes. I have tried many sushi joints in Minneapolis (sakura, tango, tiger, others) and last night my girlfriend and I were going to go to Fuji Ya, but, as usual, parking was scarce. We were heading to Maple Grove afterwards, so we figured we'd try this place called Kobe in Plymouth. Best decision ever. The ambiance was great.. I mean, it's obviously commercialized Japanese design, but at least they gave an effort. I would compare the ambiance to something like Sushi Tango, with a bit more Japanese flare. The prices were what I would expect at a sushi joint. The happy hour prices are on par with others and has some of the classic American friendly rolls on it (california, philly, etc.). The food was simply incredible. We started with the "must try calamari", which, actually, we could have lived without. It's not bad, but it's not great. We finished it, so it couldn't have been too bad. My girlfriend ordered the tempura tofu, which is one of her favorites.. I, however, do not understand her lust for tempura tofu. I tried it here, and it was the same as everywhere else I've tried it. So, if you like it elsewhere, you'll like it here. On to the fish. I was in the mood for rolls, so I stuck with those last night. We ordered 4 rolls. Philly, 2 Alaskan, and a Spicy Tuna. The Alaskan gets a 9/10 stars, the Spicy Tuna gets a 15/10 stars, and the Philly is around a 7/10. The Philly lost points because the salmon was heavily smoked, which made it hard to taste any of the other flavors in the roll. If you like smoked salmon, though, you will definitely love their Philly. I loved that all of their ingredients seemed extremely fresh, the nori wasn't over powering, they sprinkle sesame seeds on the outside of the rice, which adds a great crunch.. the avacado was perfectly ripe, the cucumber had tons of snap.. I was really blown away by this place and super, super surprised to see that not only is this the best place that I've gone for sushi, but it's in the 'burbs?? really?? I'm anxious to go back and dive deeper into their menu.. their dinner sushi entres looked amazing.. lots of time and thought put into the creation of them.. so I'm anxiously looking forward to the next time I go. The bottom line.. if you're looking for a place to go for *GOOD* sushi, this is it. Even up against Sakura, which is has won many awards for their sushi (and is considerably more expensive), Kobe wins. read more

We swore it off for a while, but a 3rd coworker whined enough that we disregarded previous experience and went back. Flash developers are high maintenance ... 'nuff said. This time, the meal was again filled with adequatulance. After we got back to the office, all three of us experienced a colon-cleansing purge that could best be described as a punishment from god. I went to Kobe for lunch with my three co-workers, we ordered two bento boxes and two Hibachi dishes. We waited... An adjacent table came in, sat down, ordered sushi and were served, by our waiter. We continued to wait. I understand sushi is a quick dish to get to the table but you would think our waiter would get a clue and check on our dishes. I asked about our dishes and was told 'kitchen busy'. The place appeared to be, maybe half full! I asked again and was told the computer lost our order and it will be right out. My three co-workers received their dishes and I was told, again, my dish will be right out. My co-workers, were half finished and I still had not received my dish. The waiter was avoiding our table and I finally got his attention, I said will you please check on my dish, his response was, unbelievably, its coming right out. I said again, will you check on my dish.. That finally got the manager involved who apologized and Istole him I want my dish now. It came out without the pork, it had not even been cooked yet. When it did get to the table it was tough as hell. They did take the dish off the bill which was the right thing to do. The wrong thing they did was to keep the change from our payment as a tip, they didn't even bother to bring the change to the table, they never came back to the table. Dry chicken breast with a barely visible Teriyaki sauce which truly tasted like sweet garlic water. We weren't looking for Teriyaki syrup, just sauce that tasted like something other than garlic. Wow! Fast service. Tasty food and entertainment all in one! This has got to be the cheapest hibachi eatery I've been to. The prices in Hawaii are almost double what they charge here. I tried the hot house sake, grilled veggies, grilled shrimp, spicy tuna sushi, pork gyoza, steak and fried rice. Everything was prepared perfectly and well seasoned. The hot sake was very smooth. The cooks were very personable and entertaining. The service was quick and responsive. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for good food and GOOD SUSHI. This has become our favorite sushi joint in the Twin Cities. We drive quite a distance to get there too! But it's worth it. To be honest, we haven't had a lot of sashimi. We go for the Rolls and Kobe's Favorites. MY favorite rolls are the Spicy Girl, the Tiger Roll, and the Pink Lady. The Pink Lady is the best! Spicy crabmeat, avocado, panko crumbs, cucumber, all wrapped in a pink soybean wrapper drizzled with a spicy sauce. That spicy sauce, best I can tell, is a mix of Japanese Kewpie mayo with garlic chili sauce and a touch of Sriracha. Mmmm. But what I like best is the soybean wrapper. I personally hate cramming a big piece of sushi in my mouth trying not to look like a hamster while I hork it down. These soybean wrappers are easy to bite so you can eat (and enjoy) a piece of the Pink Lady in TWO bites! Their appetizers are really good too. We've enjoyed the tempura appetizer and ika shogayaki (squid in ginger sauce). The calamari was good, but not great. I've almost made a small meal out of edamame and deep-fried tofu - another winner. The only downfall for me is that they have hibachi tables for small-large groups. Which means people come for birthdays. And when they do, Kobe brings out their wait staff, bang on a drum, and sing some stupid birthday song while making the honorary celebrant wear a large Japanese puppet head. I love love love Benihana! So when we moved to MN and they had Kobe restaurants in every major city, I wanted to try it. I was not disappointed. I ordered the standard, steak and shrimp hibachi combo. It tasted almost as good as Benihana and about the same price too. But it's closer to home and doesn't have the long lines. The only thing that I didn't enjoy as much is the salad dressing - it's a little too sweet for me. But if you don't feel like dealing with the crowds at B-Hana and have a Kobe in your neighborhood then it's a good idea to check it out! read more

My husband and I love going to Kobe for their Hibachi. I would highly recommend the shrimp, scallops, and filet! We generally have very attentive servers and a good experience. They also have a really reasonably priced happy hour menu with sushi. I generally don't go to Kobe specifically for sushi, as I have found their prices to be a bit high on some sushi items.
