Very dry teriyaki chicken donburi bowl (rice is drenched jn the sweet teriyaki sauce).
    Chrissy N.

We may have ordered the wrong things here but the two items we got were just plain terrible. The teriyaki chicken donburi bowl was not good. Chicken was very tough and dry and the rice was drenched with sugary very sweet teriyaki sauce. The only saving grace of this dish is the salad - it was underwhelming but fresh. We got a salad with sausage and egg just to see what it's like and what we got was what's in the name. It was literally chopped lettuce, typical sausage and scrambled egg with a side of some yellow-y sweet dressing. No frill. It was disappointing. Again, perhaps we should have sticked with their katsu which wasn't bad when we had it at our last visit.

A favorite when we get to visit H-Mart. You can find Kobako Katsu in the furthest corner of the food court. They are specialized mostly in Katsu. My son's favorite is the chicken Katsu. The food is freshly fried and the taste is great. Well, A1 has only the rise option and A 10 is a humongous portion, including a big pile of crinkle cut french fries. The servings are way more than expected and often have to take it home. Though it's a lot of fried foods, the frying part they do with perfection. Often served with a bit thinly sliced coleslaw and pickles, but the garnishing is nothing additionally. I wish that the staff would smile a bit more, instead it feels like they don't want your business. There is nothing much to say about the ambiance, as it only has a counter with a register. And behind the curtains is where the frying magic happens aka the kitchen. You would eat at the food court so put in your order and you'll get a timer that will go off when your food is ready to pick up at the register. Easy peasy, great when hungry.

    Curry Chicken Katsu Bowl

We chose to try Kobako Katsu after driving to h-mart to eat at Don chicken but Don chicken restaurant was totally shut down (even though online said they should be open). Anyway, the meal I got was C1. Curry Chicken Katsu Bowl and it was beyond amazing! Chicken perfectly cooked came on bed of rice with shredded cabbage and curry sauce. Portions are large and sufficient for a big appetite like mine! They definitely earned a new customer!

I stopped by to get lunch while I was at H Mart today. I got the chicken teriyaki meal. For some reason, I thought it was going to be spicy, but maybe that was the dish above it, but that was confusing. My chicken was very dry and I'm not feeling like I like this very much unfortunately. I will try something new next time. The staff was very friendly and they gave a buzzer which was convenient because I did some shopping at H Mart.

Kobako katsu offers a variety of katsu(fried cutlets), fried food, and sandwiches and pastas. What I really like about this spot is the variety of items you can get. The one thing you can count on when eating here is big portions for cheap. Seriously this fish and chips platter I got could easily feed 2-3 people. With that being said this platter was like a 2.5/5. The squid rings were burnt, overcooked, and overall just bland. The shrimp was cooked well but had no flavor whatsoever. The fish was the only item out of the fried seafood that had any flavor. The fries were just okay, nothing out of the ordinary but had no salt or really flavor. The cabbage and mayo salad was a welcome flavor after eating so many fried things but it had too much mayo sauce. The macaroni salad was pretty good, would definitely have liked more of that. The pickles and jalapeños served as a palette cleanser when switching from the fried food to the sides. The rice and broth kind of felt like an after thought. I honestly felt like they provided nothing of value to the meal and just took up room on the plate. I feel that this dish could be pretty decent with some improvements. The first improvement would be to make sure that everything is cooked properly. In place of the rice and broth I would love to see some lemon and maybe another piece of shrimp or fish. Some seasoning on the fries would be good too, or maybe offer seasoning on the side for those who want to add it. Finally I would use less mayo sauce with the cabbage. While this dish wasn't up to par I would recommend trying out their katsu, specifically the mozzarella and katsu curry.

My son had the pork katsu and I had portions of his food. Perfect pork katsu, even and not too thick batter with right slice of pork. I didn't like the macaroni salad much, not as al dente as it should. Service was quick.

Tucked away in the strip of restaurants inside of the Lakeline Hmart, this katsu place funnels into the same dining area as the other restaurants inside Hmart. I used to think this place was decent until I got the A7 King Katsu. They give you your standard bowl of rice, some shredded cabbage and miso soup, but they also give you two massive pieces of katsu with curry on top. The taste is pretty good for katsu curry, but for the value of this being $21, this is hard to beat.

A6. Mozzarella Katsu. Comes with Miso soup, macaroni salad, coleslaw, rice, gravy sauce on the side and jalapenos

I've never had Katsu before and I was completely surprised. My wife encouraged me to try the Mozzarella Chicken Katsu and I thoroughly enjoyed it immensely. The chicken was crispy and the sweet and sour gravy like sauce just blended it all together nicely. It may look like a monster sized chicken fried steak if you're just going off the picture of it alone, but no it's not even close. Believe it or not there's a size bigger (Texas Size) and I can't even imagine anyone trying to eat something of that caliber. Only thing I can gripe about it the price, because everything is expensive and yada yada, but it's worth the price to get the Katsu I got. Also you do get 4 sides with it too which drives up the value.

I always wanted to try the king sized Texas katsu, so I got it to share with a friend. When I went up to get it, I was pleasantly surprised that there were actually two giant katsus waiting for us. Amongst the two of us and two others who took some as well, we only finished one katsu. They blew me away with the quantity. Now for the quality part. The curry sauce is pretty necessary to have since katsu in general needs a bit of sauce. It felt more like gravy so that was interesting. The rice, slaw, and mac were forgettable. I think I'd come back for this again but share it amongst four people while they bring some better sides.

Easily one of the biggest katsu burgers I've ever had! The cutlet itself was huge and incredibly moist on the inside. The katsu was solid, especially having the egg on there as well! I do wish there was a bit more katsu sauce on it, but still very good. It was messy and fell apart pretty easily, but I think that was because the cutlet was so big. I'm not complaining though because the pricing for it was a great deal. I've tried the katsu curry as well, and that wasn't too great, so I will personally stick to the burger. Either way, I highly recommend checking this place out!

I placed a quite large to-go order one evening (3 ramen bowls, an app, and a kids ramen) and it was ready in a flash. The service inside was friendly and welcoming! Parking at Lakeline is plentiful and conveniently located right off the highway. The kids ramen broth was slightly overly fishy tasting. Which was odd cause it was labeled pork. I think something a little less 'in your face' would be better for kids. As for mine, the Miso Hot ramen is my new favorite. That broth .... out of this world. Is it wild to go twice in one week? TLDR: Pro: authentic Japanese restaurant with food prepped to order…read more Con: lunch menu is minimum two item order which wasn't clear, and they prepare the food with way too much salt The restaurant is authentic which was a huge win for me. The lunch menu wasn't very straightforward so when I got my bill in the end I was a little surprised to see it came to $18, instead of $10. I guess I could have asked when I ordered, but the menu clearly lists mackerel is $8.50, so I didn't quite get that the lady/owner/mgr meant you have to order two entree items for the lunch menu, so its not like a typical lunch special at a set price for the listed price. It felt a little deceiving so it wasnt a great feeling, i guess i should have picked up on it when she said two items. But I wish it could have clearly stated that on the menu when i was reviewing it, i would have just opted for one entree on the menu instead had i realized that sooner. The fish was fine but $20/worth idk. I will say the meal was actually cooked to order. The downside for me in terms of the meal was the salt bomb all over my meal, starting with the salad which was a very small amount of greens to the amount of salad dressing they topped it with. The miso soup was made with miso but very strongly seasoned making me want to water it down. The edamame were good but once again so much added salt on it. The mackerel was good, but yet again the excessive amount of salt made it very difficult to enjoy the meal from start to finish. The vibe is a small dining area with minimal frill, and a small counter with seating where the sushi chef is to make rolls/sashimi. The lady is very attentive and the food is made with care, I just wish they would hold back on the salt. I left feeling very parched due to the amount of sodium I ingested from the preparation. Overall this restaurant is a great Japanese restaurant, I wouldn't mind going back. If - minus the miso soup, I wonder if I could request no added salt to my food in the cook process. Aside from how they may have prepped the fish before cooking, if for example it gets pre-seasoned in salt that's one thing, but no additional salt when cooking. I recommend you give it a shot, its a rare find to see a Japanese restaurant ran my a Japanese family, which was a nice surprise.

All of our food was prepared and delivered to the table about 10 minutes after ordering. I was incredibly impressed by the customer service! PRICING - The total was $67.65 after tax ($5.15) but before tip for a chicken karaage ($8), signature shoyu ($17) with extra spinach ($1.50) and extra kikurage mushrooms ($1.50), classic tonkotsu ($17), and black tonkotsu ($17.50). I think the pricing is reasonable for the quality of ingreidents and portion size. CHICKEN KARAGAGE (8/10): The chicken is incredibly juicy and tender while the coating is crispy! The Japanese mayo on the side for dipping is delicious. It comes with several large pieces so it's a great option for an appetizer to share. SIGNATURE SHOYU (8/10): This is a Tokyo-style shoyu ramen with chicken and dashi broth that's savory, umami, and a little tangy. It comes with pork chashu (I subbed chicken for no extra cost), homemade noodles, spinach, bamboo shoot, scallion, nori, Japanese fish cake, and half a soy egg. I added extra spinach and kikurage mushrooms for $1.50 each. CLASSIC TONKOTSU (9/10): This has a rich and creamy pork broth with a savory umami flavor. It comes with pork chashu, homemade noodles, kikurage mushrooms, beni shoga, scallions, nori, and half a soy egg. This is definitely a must-order if it's your first time! BLACK TONKOTSU (8/10): This has a rich and creamy pork broth with black garlic oil. It comes with pork chashu, homemade noodles, kikurage mushrooms, beni shoga, scallions, nori, garlic chips, and half a soy egg. All the flavors pair well together but the garlic does overpower the pork flavor in the broth (but I think that's to be expected if you're ordering a black garlic tonkotsu). Honestly, there's nothing not to love about Ramen512... from the service to the ingredients to the pricing, it has everything you could want and more. Eventually, I'd love to try everything on the menu because there are so many great options! The interior has counter seating like what you would traditionally see at a ramen shop in Japan as well as tables so it's perfect for enjoying a meal by yourself or with your entire family. Came to Don Don Express again, but this time for takeout!…read more I already knew I wanted the Chicken Katsu again after a really great experience last time. I also checked out the appetizer menu and decided to try the curry pancake. The boxed Chicken Katsu came out piping hot. It was still a generous portion of chicken layered over rice. When I saw the side compartment, I paused for a second and thought, is that soup? Then I realized it was actually the onion, egg, and soy mixture that goes with donburi. I did not know it would be packed separately, so I was not especially careful with the container and a little of it spilled into the bag. That said, I really applaud this place for separating it. It kept the chicken katsu crispy and the rice dry and fluffy until I was ready to eat. The curry pancake was different from what I expected, but in a pleasant way. It was not filled with curry or mixed into the dough. Instead, it was a hot, crispy, flaky Asian-style pancake with a texture similar to a scallion pancake, served with a curry dipping sauce. The curry had a bold and flavorful profile. It was not thick but nor sweet as the usual Japanese curry block sauces, as I was expeecting since it is a japnese themeed place. Te curry to me tatded more indian curry stlye, a bit spicy and a strong but it had a strong savory depth. Because of the texure closer to a desn flavor croth it did not cling to the pancake as much, not like how naan would scoopt up the curry, but it still paired very well, and works nice with the katsu, too!
