Hands down the best Korean AYCE BarBQ spot so far. The meats are of great quality, and taste amazing. Love the fact that the meat is being cooked for you, and they keep the meat coming, 2 items at a time. The waitress who took care of us, was amazing! This is for sure a place to come back to. We saw the 4+ star reviews (recent) and thought we would give it a try on our way back from Havre de grace. We should have trusted our gut that something wasn't quite right when a KBBQ place isn't packed and barely any Asians were patronizing the establishment but we thought it was just bc it was a Sunday night on a Memorial Day weekend. Be aware of a long review. Lots of things didn't go right from there: 1. My bf was very excited for the AYCE and his sights were set on the LA galbi and lamb racks before he came from the premium menu ($53/pp). But you don't choose your own meats. It's really more a set and not like other AYCE places where you skip other meats and go for ones you like. They loaded us up with the chunky low quality meats first like ribeyes and tenderloin before galbi. 2. The lamb rack was a total disappointment. My bf took the first bite and even though it didn't taste right. didn't say anything to me yet. I took my bite and immediately spit it out. It tasted rotten and I'm a lamb lover and I know what lamb games taste is like. Our server tried to convince us it was just the taste of lamb. But she did make up by getting us more galbi. 3. Beware that it's not a AYCE for the premium menu. If you want AYCE, you're picking from the classic menu after they've given you the premium meats from the premium set. By then my bf was thoroughly miffed, so even little thing irritated us: 4. The men's bathroom was a mess and the stalls were broken. The bathroom is in the "dungeon" ...super creepy I kept looking around bc the women's bathroom was propped open and there was nothing and no one there 5. When they brought the check they offered us yogurt drinks but it was sloppy that they still had the wrapper on them... 6. I was greeted by a dead cockroach at the bottom of stairs... you decide I don't want to be all negative as the server really tried but I think the way that the AYCE is set up is misleading. The meats were fine (all were tasty except the rotten lamb) but nothing worth $53/pp. I go to honey pig, Iron Age, Kpot, 9292 all of them have much better kbbq. The egg was normal and expected but the spicy soup was basically tomatoe paste. We ended up taking home the tenderloin but bc you take stuff home, you can't have a little of the brisket from the classic menu. Again, just know what the AYCE model is before you go. read more

This restaurant is amazing, I can't believe this is the first time I've come across it. We came here for dinner before catching a movie at The Senator, which is right across the street. We were greeted and seated right away and our server was very attentive and quick. The food came out quickly and it was so delicious. We got the $32 All You Can Eat option and four types of meat was more than enough for two people. I also ordered shu mai, pork dumplings, and edamame because my eyes were bigger than my stomach. Definitely not necessary with all the pickled veggies and sides that come with the meats. We also ordered a pitcher of beer for $13. There is an 18% gratuity tacked on, but I don't mind that at all. My husband always has a way of finding places to eat. He said he looked this place up online. This spot is in the tight corner of the Belvedere Square. Upon arrival notices were posted on the door that masks were required. Once inside, you can visually see there is multiple levels, but the dining area was on the upper level. There was one other party dining when we arrived and escorted to our table. Each table has a mid-sized grill in the middle of the table. Our first server brought us menus and then after a few minutes asked what we wanted to drink. I had not a clue what to order, so hubby ordered for us. We had the Premier Set. Before the meat was brought out, several dishes were brought out containing from seasoning, sauces, salad, rice, cucumbers, and other items I have not a clue what they were, but I did taste it. The server brought back water and our sweet iced tea. She then began to start the grill. After several minutes, she returned with with the first set of meat and butter. Once the butter finished melting she placed the meat on the grill. Then she asked were we ready for the heat! Honey hold onto your wigs, that hwat was hot! My wig was okay . The utensils provided was a spoon and chopsticks, bring your chopstick skills. We asked for the meat to be cooked medium The meat was well flavored. Each and every piece was cooked before us. Another server came with our next plate of meat, with onions and broccoli. I was full by the time the lamb came out, but I did sample the last round of meat. Worst experience of my life. The food was not good. We got the premium menu, and they wouldn't let us eat from the classic menu till we finished all the food from the premium menu. Stopped here for our Friday night meal after the convention - a decent 20min drive away but in a nicer area with an outdoor market shopping center. Parking wasnt an issue for me - but I could see it being one in peak hours. We were sat immediately at a BBQ booth and put in our drink order. What didn't make sense to me was they had Pepsi coolers but Coke products. I stuck with water instead. We ordered the regular set of meats etc, and added dumplings, a kimchi pancake, and some spring rolls to share. The reason this was just OK was we had three waiters/waitresses. The first girl took our drink order, the second guy brought out the food. And the third older lady just was miserable to us and acted like we were bothering her the whole time. Example: the first guy Vog told him he would handle cooking the meat and the guy didn't need to worry about us. The older lady didn't know that or care to ask so she gruffly played around with our food and again acted like we were an issue the whole time - terrible attitude. Ruined it for Vog which ruins it for me. Food itself was good - I always aim for the bulgogi (beef) and have a little of the spicy pork, but the appetizers - dumplings etc were perfect. Also in previous BBQ places the kimchi pancake wasn't chopped up and consistently in terms of batter to kimchi distribution - here it was a perfect mixing of both. Really good! It's been about a year since I've been to Koba and unfortunately this time will be my LAST! I dropped in for a late lunch so the place was empty and I was seated right away. My server was great and immediately went to work setting out all the accoutrements. I went with the standard set up for $35 and started with bulgogi beef and shrimp. I was shocked to see two deeply frozen shrimp and a random shrimp tail dropped onto the grill. As you can imagine once it thawed and was deemed "cooked" I couldn't even peel the shell off and it was mush inside. The bulgogi was tasty. So for my next round I decided to get the chicken bulgogi. Big mistake. Once it was served I cut in and the chicken was still raw! My server had cut off the grill when he declare it was "done" and didn't come back for quite a while. Once I showed him the raw chicken he turned the grill back on and walked away. The grill covered in sauce proceeded to heat up and was starting to burn/smoke as the server came back. I immediately asked for the check and was scared to touch anything else. Once the check arrives there's a forced tip which normally would've been fine but I'm not rewarding frozen shrimp and raw chicken which were inedible. So sad because I love Belvedere Square and want to see all of its vendors thrive but I can't foresee coming back to Koba after this. read more

Went there with my wife on a Tuesday evening at 5:30 intending to get the tabletop meat grill. Once we were seated, we looked over the menu and since we are pretty spontaneous we decided to order off the ala carte menu. They brought us a bunch of little dishes with pickled vegetables. We ordered seaweed salad, seafood pancake, hot bibbimbap, chicken bulgogi, a spicy soup with beef and soft tofu. It was all so delicious. To drink we had hot barley tea. We will return. read more

A great experience. They set the steak on fire at one point, which was cool to watch. A very engaging experience for our table or seven. We all got the premium meat set, which was worth it. Had some appetizers, too. Staff was attentive. Refills were prompt. They cooked the meats for us and then cut it up and piled it on plates. 3 of us went to visit on an early Saturday night. There was no wait at 530p, and was not busy at all. Immediately seated. We chose the premium ayce set -- all good quality beef dishes and lamb chops added. All were tender, flavorful, and good quality. The LA kalbi marinade was on the too sweet side which overpowered. But loved the other dishes. After the set was done, we were full. I felt I could probably eat just a little more, and this is when I found out that the premium set is not ayce -- you only get one order of the premium dishes. You can order anything on the normal ayce list afterwards. Slightly misleading, but not a huge deal as we were satisfied with the portion. I still tried the bulgugi, which was pretty good. Service was good if not lackadaisical. I had to ask for lettuce leaves that often come with korean bbq to make ssam. No garlic or green peppers were given, which was disappointing. The steamed egg and stew were just ok -- these are better at almost any other kbbq place I've visited. Not many banchan- the small dishes provided. Though one of them was ddukbooki, which is normally a paid dish on itself. Pitchers of beer were 16 bucks, perfect for 3. Sodas were 2.50 which is fine. I'd come back. Haven't tried any of the basic items of the ayce. I may not since 49 dollars for the premium side is great. read more

This is a BBQ restaurant and close time is 10PM- I arrive at 9:13PM and you told me it is too late to have BBQ, excuse me?? 2. Be careful- in the check there is 20% tips added to it. At this time I almost do not see this unless it is a large party. Bad. 3. It is summer time and I measured the temperature in the room: 76 degree. I know I came at a late time but could you turn on the AC at a lower temperature? 4. The small plates come with entry and only has four plates. This is the fewest plates I've ever experienced in a Korean restaurant. Sorry after writing all of this I decided to change to one star... this is to motivate the restaurant to improve. I visited here with my mom on Mother's Day. We both enjoy Korean bbq. We did the option to cook at the table top. Overall we really enjoyed the food. Some of the sides were just ok and some were very good. The waitress did not really have a warm personality perse but she was kind enough to offer me an apron when she noticed that the sauce from the meats was popping onto my short. That was an appreciated gesture. She also was quite attentive. I didn't really like how the higher priced table top option worked regarding choosing meats so we ultimately chose the lower table top option. The higher option offered minimal flexibility but that's not really clear from the menu. We had to ask several questions to figure that out. Parking was no issue and we didn't need a reservation. The waiter attempted to cook the FROZEN (still cold and stuck together) on the grill and was literally using his tongs to pry apart the pork belly slices. I COULD NOT BELIEVE THIS?! I understand the food is frozen, but it is the audacity and the unprofessionalism to bring frozen food to the table and attempt it to thaw it and cook it right then in front of customers! This used to be our go to Korean barbecue place, as we live nearby. Went here tonight with my wife and 13 year old daughter. It was not busy. Mostly one loud table of about 8 college age boys. Should have left. My wife and daughter ate very little. And it was $37 a person for all you can eat. Plus tax and tip. But very few people can eat anywhere near that amount of food. Throw in a seafood pancake, and you're talking about $150 for a meal that at a regular Korean restaurant would have been $60 for what we ate. It was a lot of fatty beef. We pretty much subsidized the apparently drunk college kids who ate them out of house and home. Won't ever be back. read more

Review your bill. First time at Koba- we ordered kimchi fried rice, bul dak, steamed egg, and fried chicken appetizer. The food was surprisingly very good. The side dishes (ban chan) needed upgrading as they weren't fresh and the kimchi was waaayyy to fermented to eat. The one issue I had is that they added $10 tip to my $60 bill. Last time I checked, tips were at the diners' discretion. What's worse is that there was a section at the bottom of the bill to add a tip- so unless you look at your bill carefully, you could leave a tip twice. We didn't order bbq, but if their intention is to make sure servers get tips for assisting with the grilling, that should be stated explicitly on the menu. We would've left a 20% tip as we usually do, but should be our choice. read more

Again, belated review. I've never been to Belvedere square before, but it is a very nice area. Came for the AYCE and I believe we picked the regular menu. The banchan dishes were nice, but of course, we were there mainly for the meats. Portion sizes are large so it I would recommend getting a group (post-pandemic, of course). I usually like the marinated meats, but the unmarinated ones were just as tasty. I think the quality of meats is higher than at Iron Age and can't wait to come back someday. Last time I wanted AYCE kbbq, I took a 1.5 hr journey to Rockville. Let's just say I will NOT be having to do that again any time soon. KOBA had a concise but diverse selection of meat for its AYCE. We went with the standard option for ~$26 a person and I definitely did not feel limited in choices. The non-marinated cuts (beef brisket and pork belly) really shined with a perfect level of marbling and great flavor. I will say though that the brisket sauce was a little too tangy for my taste. It had an extra flavor to it that I couldn't quite place. The beef bulgogi and spicy pork options were very lightly marinated, which I was at first unsure about, but it ended up being a refreshing change from places where the marinade is too salty or strong. Pro-tip: the spicy pork and spicy pork belly have quite a similar taste and I'd recommend sticking with the former. In terms of the restaurant itself, the decor kind of reminded me of a rec room in an apartment building, but if I'm being completely honest, I could not care less about "vibe" in a kbbq place. It's all about the food!! We checked out the lower floor really quick before leaving and there were 2 pretty spacious karaoke rooms. They looked a little barren but I'm sure having people in there would liven it up! Biggest plus is that the microphones have stands! A nice touch for getting up there and being the star you're meant to be~~ Overall, I will be coming back to this place quite frequently and I see it becoming a staple for getting your kbbq fix in Baltimore. It was OK, but worth far less than $50 per person. The side vegetables were tiny, few and uninteresting. You would think that with a completely empty restaurant and a six top all ordering the most expensive thing on the menu, we'd be waited on attentively. Nope. I've done taken out at Koba a few times during COVID-19, and found the takeout options to be alright. The bulgogi is a little sweet for me, but that's personal preference. However, this low review is geared towards the AYCE BBQ. We did AYCE (classic set) for 28.99 and tried everything on their menu. They have a 2 hour limit for dinner, which is typical for AYCE. What was unusual was their slow service. I'm used to ordering multiple meat items at once, or at least having one item cooking and ordering the next. On a Monday night, we had two waitresses handling a total of 4 tables in the restaurant. Between each order, there was approximately a 10 minute wait. We would order the beef brisket (cha dol bagi) and after it was done cooking, we would try to order the next item. The waitress wouldn't come over, even after we politely asked her to. Sometimes, the waitress would just walk away. At the end of the 2 hours, it took us approximately 25 minutes after eating to order a new item. This was clearly a way to get us to eat less. I find this so dishonest, because we ordered additional appetizers in addition to the AYCE. We ordered a seafood pancake and fried mandu, in additional to multiple sojus and beer. Beyond the slow service, the meat was alright. It was what you would expect from a AYCE location. The pork belly was pretty good, so was the galbi and the cha dol bagi (beef brisket). I found the chicken bulgogi to be very dry and the spicy pork to be subpar. The seafood pancake was very overcooked. Summary: If you're in the mood for AYCE, I would recommend driving out to other restaurants in the Rockville, MD area. read more

What a find! This is superb Korean BBQ mixed with excellent service. They offer 2 different AYCE menus and I went with the premium menu. You start with 6 solid banchan. The kimchi is nicely sour. The cukes were spicy and tangy. There was a simple salad and broccoli I. A nice surprise was rice cake and fish cake in spicy sauce. Chayote marinated in a tangy say based sauce rounded out the banchan. Next up were two really incredible sides: steamed egg and kimchi jigae. The steamed egg was creamy with a good dashi flavor and studded with tasty green onion. Really superb! But even better was the kimchi jigae. Good broth filĺed with tofu, kimchi and other veggies. The broth was smokey and flavorful. Even better was eating it with the rice: just perfect. These sides are so often a toss off but here they were stars! Then comes a huge platter if meats, smoked in the kitchen and finished in heavy cast iron pan. The first meat is rib eye. Tender and flavorful with a bit of fat, this was excellent. The only issue was I was there by myself and the rib steak was huge. There was short rib, a wonderful lamb chop, amazing LA kalbi with a delicious sweet sauce, and tenderloin. By the time I got to the tenderloin I was done in. I barely got thru 3 pieces of tenderloin before I quit. They were so nice in packing my abundant leftovers to go (along with the jigae). So often at AYCE you can't take leftovers but it was no problem here. With 2 people, the rib eye and tenderloin would be split allowing for more of that lamc chop and la kalbi. In fact, given the rib eye was so much better than the tenderloin, I would skip the tenderloin in favor of more lamb and la kalbi. And if you finish the opening meat platter, you vmcan chose one meat from the regular AYCE, and I would choose brisket. Most if my neighbors had brisket and it smelled great! I had a Loose Cannon beer and my water glass was kept full. My main server was quite nice and we chatted a bit as she cooked my meats. I came in early so it was not super busy but it got busier as I was finishing. At $50 for the premium, it is not an every day meal. But at $32, the regular AYCE is a good buy with 7 meat choices (IIRC) I will be back (and not just because I left my credit card behind and have to go retrieve it!) I am so full and so happy! Had the spicy pork to-go dinner tonight. It was prepared quickly and packaged really well. Service was friendly and the hostess wore a mask. The pork itself was well flavored and the rice was perfectly cooked. The kimchi was more a fresh cucumber style kimchi and was very crisp and tasty, I'm not sure if the type of kimchi they serve rotates though. My total with tax was right at $18 and I'll be getting 2 meals from it. The only small drawback for the price is I wish some of the dipping sauces were included or that they offered the ability to add the lettuce leaves for wraps. Small quibbles though. It's definitely a place I look forward to going back to for a full Korean bbq meal and it's an exciting new addition to the Korean food landscape here in the city. read more

There was no wait even on a Friday evening but unfortunately we waited about 25 minutes after being seated for a server to come take our order. The food did come out rather quickly but it was lacking a bit in the flavor department. If you visit I would advise against the buffet as it is over priced compared to other k bbq spots. When you go to a kbbq place and they give you withered lettuce and rotten jalapeños, that should describe most of the food experience. Very nice servers. They were attentive and quick. Our server was handling five tables with no problem. Bigger venue than expected and the atmosphere is great. Man. What a disappointment. One of the sides was a pickled radish and it was slimy and tasted funky. Marinated pork rib also felt like it was getting too old. I usually don't complain about lack of sides for AYCE kbbq places because they usually try to fill you up with everything except meat but this place needs more sides.
