After two birthday dinners the previous two years at Mama's Fish House, I decided to try somewhere new. When I heard that Chef Chris Cosentino was behind Koast in South Maui, I knew that was where I wanted to spend my last birthday. I did unintentionally get a whole roasted Kona Kampachi for the second year in a row, but his version with green papaya slaw did not disappoint. Although it is pricy, it is enough for 2-3 with no additional food required to leave satisfied. With their own meat and fish locker on display, can't get fresher than this and they are more than happy to explain what's in there for the next day's preparation. If we weren't staying in W Maui, I would be tempted to return to be that one lucky person the next day to have one of the rarer fishes that he claims taste like lobster. If only I can remember the name, but at least I have the picture now.

We were excited to try this restaurant because we enjoy chef Chris Constentino, the issue came with ME not knowing they call passionfruit LILIKOI in hawaii (I hate it) We started with the Waygu Tataki and it was amazing and then we both had the tuna with lilikoi sauce. My husband loved it, the tuna was amazing, the spice crusting the outside was great.

Great atmosphere! Incredible interior design. Rigatoni was wonderful. signature cocktail was great as well, same with the cherry old-fashioned. Service staff is very friendly and accommodating and efficient. The chicken dish fell short a little bit for the price that it was at, the chicken was actually well cooked and quite juicy but it just didn't have the it factor.. it didn't titillate me.

Kind of torn on this one. Overall, drinks and food were great. I had some unique flavors and ingredients I hadn't tried before. Went for a bday and they had a dessert for the bday girl! Very pretty inside and we sat kind of on the outside patio balcony. Perfect weather. Servers were attentive. appetizers were amazing. charred octopus toast was a favorite and the nduja in it was new to me. Tastes similar to a chorizo. It's a must order. The other entrees were standard so just order to your taste preferences. Was really disappointed by the Wagyu ribeye steak. I've had my fair share of steaks and I've had plenty that were not only cheaper but way better than this one. For $185 it felt like a scam. It was tender but the marbling was lacking. Something you expect from a ribeye. This place is good for a nice dinner but save your monis and skip the steak

I went to Koast for dinner with my wife to celebrate my birthday this month. I heard about it through reddit and people online who liked Lineage recommended it (I too really like Lineage). Koast is definitely more upscale than Lineage and the vibes are really nice, with a beautiful view of the sunset. We got seated outside with a nice view since we had a reservation for 5pm. Our server recommended a lot of different dishes, so we ended up ordering the whole roasted kona kanpachi, ember roasted cabbage, and milk bread. The whole roasted kona kanpachi was the best roasted fish we have ever eaten. It was also a huge portion because it is supposed to serve 2-3 people. We definitely could've fed 3 or even 4 with a couple sides to share, but we did our best to eat this perfectly cooked fish with the side papaya salad and fish sauce (nuoc cham) dressing. The miso roasted cabbage was also a hit, but I think we could've done without the milk bread. After devouring most of our giant entree, we then were convinced by our server again to order the pineapple dessert - the pineapple shell is frozen and filled with Italian meringue, pineapple semifreddo, and passionfruit sauce while the inside fruit is sous-vided, roasted, and carmelized on the side. It was a little bit sweet for me, but my wife really enjoyed it. I think that it could've had more semifreddo because the passionfruit was a bit overpowering, but overall it was a very creative and well-presented dessert. We also really enjoyed the non-alcoholic ube horchata, but they have a lot of interesting looking cocktails as well. Overall, really enjoyed this spectacular meal at Koast and would definitely recommend it to others looking for a special occasion spot on Maui.

Came here for dinner with a reservation. The ambiance is upscale, and the service was great (friendly and frequently filled our waters). My fiancé and I shared the collard green salad with the pork viniagrette on the side ($18). The salad was just ok in my opinion. The pork viniagrette was cool because it had actually pork pieces on it, but it was way too salty. For entrees, I got the onaga bouillabaisse ($65), and my fiancé got the surf and turf ($85). The onaga fish was super tasty! The texture was soft and so good! It could have been a little less salty (I already asked for less salt), and the fish skin could have been crispier. The dish was quite expensive for just the fish and a few pieces of vegetables. I tried the lobster and steak in my fiancé's dish. The lobster was tender and delicious, but the steak was a little too chewy for my preference. My fiancé loved his dish though!

I'm obsessed with this place. This is coming from a REAL foodie, not a tourist - ok?! First, they grill their protein in a special oven/grill combo that allows the perfect sear but cooked to a moist, juicy center. My wife used to make the BEST steaks at home, so much so that we stopped going to steakhouses (PappasBros etc). Think blackening seasoning with a cast iron sear and finished in the oven to get a good mallard reaction. Well, this place delivers on THAT execution via their special grill. On to the food. At first, I really enjoyed their hanger or dry aged ny steaks. However, on my daily journey to eat well but stay fit, I pivoted to their Chicken fra Diavolo on this trip. Let's just say, it's made my trip (I base travel on food foremost). It is charred to utter perfection, spicy (even for me which says ALOT), and you can request a side of their green chili sauce for an additional burst of Thai flavor. Chris Cosentino of San Francisco is the chef. Bartenders are friendly and Maui has really embraced mezcal in recent years. Pair this with an Ilegal anejo mezcal cointreau margarita and enjoy the open air Hawaiian breeze w an ocean view. It does not get better than this.

A few months ago, I made a reservation at Koast, Chef Chris Cosentino's new spot in Wailea, to celebrate my other half's birthday. Having tried most of the restaurants in the area, we were excited to experience something new, and Koast (which just opened late last year) was my top choice. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly and seated in a cozy waiting area. The first thing I noticed were the dry agers along the wall -- a small detail that instantly made me think, "Okay, this place is serious about their craft." The décor was beautiful too; modern yet inviting, with ocean-inspired touches that gave it that perfect "koastal" feel. It almost felt like we were transported somewhere along the Mediterranean. The menu was on the smaller side, but in a good way -- thoughtfully curated and refreshingly different from the usual offerings on Maui. There's an emphasis on fresh, locally sourced ingredients and creative flavor combinations. Seafood lovers will be happy here (fish, octopus, and more), but there are a handful of other proteins too. I went for the Koast Surf & Turf, which changes daily and gives you the best of both worlds (just a heads up -- it's market price). We started with the charred octopus toast, milk bread, and watermelon tomato salad, then shared the Westholme Wagyu NY strip and Koast Surf & Turf (shrimp, scallops, a lobster tail, and steak). My husband had an old fashioned, and I went for the zero-proof tropical mule. Dessert was the lychee donuts, made with ricotta cheese, a cardamom + orange sauce, served with ice cream (vanilla, I think) and a sparkler for the birthday boy which was a fun touch. Everything tasted pretty good! It was a little vegetable heavy for my liking, but a few dishes really stood out. The milk bread was pure buttery, pillowy goodness with just the right amount of salt to balance it all out. The lychee donuts were another favorite; not everyone may love the flavor combo, but we absolutely did. My husband said they reminded him of gulab jamun, which I could see. I would totally go back just to enjoy the donuts again! He also really enjoyed the watermelon tomato salad and thought the addition of nori was really clever. Overall, Koast was such a refreshing and memorable dining experience. It's the kind of place that rewards an adventurous palate -- creative, nicely executed, and unlike anything else in Wailea right now. Service was also superb and attentive. We definitely splurged a bit for the occasion, but it was absolutely worth it. A wonderful spot for a fancy, delicious dinner and a great choice for celebrating. Definitely recommend!

Koast was good but not amazing for us. The restaurant itself was beautiful, and we sat outside with a small view of the water. The cocktails were just okay, though the wine list was great. This ended up being our most expensive meal in Maui, but it didn't really wow us. Maybe we ordered the wrong dishes, I'm not sure. The service was also just okay.

Wow! Just, wow! This restaurant has a prime location in Wailea with gorgeous sunset views! The owners and chef put their heart and soul into this restaurant and menu and you can tell by even the smallest detail. The staff is phenomenal and will cater to your every need. We came here to celebrate my father-in-law's 70th birthday and left with full bellies and smiles. They have a range of food options for vegetarians and vegans alike, plus freshly caught fish and local beef. If you are looking for a place that will not only give you a gorgeous ambiance but also 5 star menu and staff, look no further than Koast!

Went out to dinner and decided to try a new place. First glance really nice and clean looking restaurant from the outside and inside. The service was really great our server and hostess were really nice and treated my party well. Downside was that the food was not up to par. We started off with the milk bread which was nice and soft and the custard and butter than came with it was good. Calamari was good too. The clam fritters barely had any clam and was mostly bread. The pasta for me seemed undercooked. The fried chicken had a unique seasoning that wasn't for me and the crust wasn't that great either. It was paired with a good sweet sauce but together with the chicken and its seasoning was not a good pair in my opinion. Lastly dessert the donuts were good but I wasn't able to really get much lychee flavor from them.

Really nice ambiance and staff was super attentive. This place offers a lot of specials! Both of our entrees were specials. The opah fish was cooked perfectly. The pork Wellington was super rich. The Caesar celery was really different, I enjoyed it. The octopus toast was amazing! I would skip the calamari next time I didn't care for the cornmeal breading. The desserts were huge! I was not expecting that, definitely recommend ordering only one to share for two people

This is a new restaurant that opened up about a month ago and it was seriously so good! By far, my favorite meal on our Maui trip! It's family owned and every dish was so good! It's beautiful and spacious inside with a great view. You can book a reservation online. The service was so good and the food came out so fast! We tried a bunch of dishes and everything was so good! It's currently BYOB for now so it was great to bring our own wine to go with our meal. Will definitely come back here again. read more

Was in Maui for two weeks and ate at Koast four times. It was incredible every time. Had the chicken, kampachi, tuna, steak, sweet potatoes, carrots, corn - all excellent and tasty. What we liked especially was that the ingredients are very high quality. Felt great after eating. The service is unreal as well. Everyone is very nice and super knowledgeable. Best meal by far on my journey in Maui. Great ambiance and view and Jason was very attentive and polite. He also made amazing recommendations. The food came out in a very timely manner and everything was just so cozy and delicious. To top things off, Emily was such a warm and friendly face to check in and out of the restaurant with. I was so excited to try Koast and had such high hopes for our visit. Honestly, I am let down and trying to figure out if I need to check myself or if it was really that bad. 1st: I requested a nice table as it was a celebration. I totally understand that it may not be possible to honor that request based on the schedule but when we walked up, they squeeled that the table they had reserved for us was the best table in the house. When we walked up, half the table was blocked from the sunset view by a hedge. Again, not a problem at all if they couldn't give us a nice table but I really did not like that they gaslit us to think this was an INCREDIBLE table when it was in the back and just fine. 2nd: the ceviche was good 3rd: We were overtly sold on the Australian wagyu and decided to go for it because we were celebrating. When it arrived it was tough and tasteless, and at $185, was way worse than the prime steak we grill from Costco. The potatoes were overly fried. I will say the chimichurri that came with the steak was delicious. The server also did not come and check on our food until we were finished... we were wondering if that was because they knew the wagyu was not good. I'm just disappointed. I feel like I paid $400 for 2 people for an evening of gaslighting instead of honesty and good food. read more

Felt very disappointed by the food here, looks better than it tastes. Have been eating fantastic seafood our whole trip, but this was not it. $180 for the whole fish, which wasn't very good, was outrageous. The sashimi special appetizer also left a lot to be desired. Atmosphere was good but absolutely would not recommend for the food. read more

Food was fine. However, the major problem/issue was that our reservation for two was around sunset and we wanted to sit at a table with a good view. We were told that they only had seating at a table that faced the parking lot - EVEN THOUGH THERE WERE MULTIPLE EMPTY TABLES IN THE DINING AREA WITH NICE VIEWS OF OCEAN. We were told that those tables are ONLY RESERVED FOR PARTIES OF THREE OR MORE! There was only two of us and the receptionist told us that we could not sit in the area of the restaurant since there were only two of us. NEVER COMING BACK - EXTREMELY POOR to not sit where we asked with open tables! read more

we ate here last year and liked it, but the other night was a disappointment. We had a reservation for an outdoor table and waited 15 to 20 minutes while others were seated before us. By then all the outdoor tables were taken and we had to sit indoors. We decided to splurge and order steak and lobster, but it wasn't worth it and we had to wait 45 or 50 minutes for a meal. We spent a couple of hours at this restaurant... Most of it waiting to be seated or for food. I think they just forgot about us. read more

Really wanted to love it, but food wasn't stellar. Would give it 4 stars if it was a less expensive dinner, but at a $300 price tag for two people, value is 3 stars. Atmosphere was great, nice view Niner Cabernet is a wonderful glass of red wine Service was great Got the: Caesar salad 1/5 - love the concept of the celery and heart of palm, parmesan was nice, just so anchovy heavy in the dressing. I do like fresh anchovies quite a bit, but this was not a good balance of flavors. Barely ate a few bites. Mixed green salad 2/5 - ever so slightly better. Boring. Read a review that it's the best salad someone had. Was average at best. Description of the dressing sounded great. Didn't love it. Whole Kanpachi with papaya salad - 4.5/5 best item we had. Fish was super fresh! Herb filled. Tender. Deboned. Nice dipping sauce. Would recommend this if you go! Big enough to feed 3 hungry people or 4 lighter eaters which is why it's priced at $180 Grilled broccolini 4/5 - good side dish If I ever go back, would likely stick with the specials only. read more

Go. Go. Go. This spot is an amazing find. We got the Wagyu Hanger steak and Kanpachi aquadolce with corn rib and brocolini sides. Everything was emaculate. Service was superb. Feel of the restaurant is transformative. It's in an open mall - but the second you enter the restaurant you barely know. Walk past the fresh whole fish and aged steaks on way in. Battles the high end resort restaurants with ease. James Beard nominee and it shows. read more

It's a beautiful, quiet spot. My wife and I shared the pork cut of the day plus the surf and turf lobster with steak. Everything was delicious. The steak especially was the best steak we've had at a restaurant before. It was melt in your mouth inside with a nice Smokey edge holding it together. It is hard for me to find a restaurant I don't love. We walked out before even ordering! Rude service and a way over priced menu that they won't put online. Along with $20 for a cocktail...you would have thought this was some sort of hoity toity Michelin restaurant. If they made you feel like a king, I could have bought in, but instead I got the feeling it was my honor to be there and just count myself lucky I even got a table. The location and views are great and I was initially excited by the refrigerator full of choice beef and fish cuts by the host check in when we arrived. The receptionist were lovely, but the restaurant was difficult to find as they were too cool to have an actual sign on the outside of the building. Too bad I wasn't convinced to spend $70 to enjoy the delicacies which I would have if not for the extremely poor and rude service. For a comparison , I am happy to go to Mama's and spend the money for a cocktail, and their amazing curry, not just because the food is excellent, but the service is outstanding. Koast has a lot to learn if they want to compete with Maui's top restaurants. read more

Delicious farm to table with an ocean view. Koast is fully open and I recommend you try it now before the word gets out and you can't get in. Super friendly service. They really care about the food they serve and locally sourcing, and creative flavors and delicious meals and drnks they offer. Maui is filled with corporate hotels and here's a woman-lead business who putting her heart in welcoming you with aloha and something that manages to be both new and comforting at the same time. For starters, we love, love, love the fish collar, venison sausage and clams (a must for all palates), and clam fritters. Farm greens are great, calamari is good too (but some people love the fritters more), and the pate is very good (ask for extra bread when you order). The coffee roasted carrots are MUST HAVE, and the cabbage is so good. Pork of the day - the pork chops and the porchetta are awesome!! The pasta special was delicious, and we had the fish kabocha squash in curry. It was delicious but rich. We came back and they made us a side of just the kabocha. The zeppoli (fried doughnuts) are delicious but if you have enough people or room, the pineapple is the way to go! It is decadent, unlike anything you've had, and worth the splurge! A deconstructed pineapple, with pineapple semifreddo, Italian meringue, and burnt pineapple in carmel sauce. We'd love to go again with more people to have the whole fish and someday I'll get around to the meats. We stayed for 10 days and came back 3 times. It's now in our rotation of places to eat at for every trip - it works well for special birthday dinners, a good night out, and 2 at the bar. Eat local and eat well! read more

Tried to order takeout for 8 people from here, but apparently they don't do takeout. The receptionist snootily asked if I was looking for a burger and fries. How incredibly rude and stuck up! She might as well said there's a McDonald's down the street. Yes you fool, I randomly wandered into your hard to find restaurant wanting something that you don't serve. Thanks for feigning hospitality on your website, "Come as you are", while being unwelcoming to those wanting do takeout. read more

We just went to here last night and very excited to come back! They haven't been open very long and liquor license is pending but they were amazing enough to remind us BYOB. We had Caesar salad, calamari, hanger steak, pork, and funnel cake like dessert. I can't stop thinking about the hanger steak! Stop what you are doing and go to Koast! Service was 5 star and the food was Michelin worthy. Maui is expensive but at Koast you actually feel like you are absolutely getting what you pay for. Excellent service staff, very attentive to details and friendly. Used plates are taken away thru out, replaced with new immediately. The decor is amazing here, inside and out. The outdoor ocean view to die for while dining. Large menu that our server described in detail, appetizers, salads, the side dishes s d especially the Fresh Fish special and Tomahawk for two was delicious, served hot and fresh. At that point, just price the burger at $22 and be upfront about it--it's a much better experience than feeling upcharged for basic toppings. Overall, between the poor service and questionable pricing, I won't be returning anytime soon. Hopefully they can make improvements, especially when it comes to customer service.

My wife and I and opted for the Dry-Aged New York Strip from the WesholmeRanch AUS. Let me tell you, it was cooked to absolute perfection. My wife and I had the pleasure of dining at the new Koast Restaurant in Wailea during our honeymoon last week, and I can't say enough good things about this place. Koast is nothing short of extraordinary. Situated on the second level of a shopping center in beautiful Wailea, Koast offers a stunning open-air setting with breathtaking views. The décor is stylish and sophisticated, creating an inviting and upscale atmosphere that made for a perfect evening. We were fortunate to be welcomed by Amy, one of the owners, who graciously seated our entire party. Both she and her husband were incredibly kind, going out of their way to ensure we had a wonderful experience. Their hospitality made us feel like VIPs. In fact, they even congratulated us on our marriage with complimentary champagne, which was such a thoughtful touch. We enjoyed some fantastic drinks -- an ube horchata for me, which was a unique and delicious twist, and a perfectly crafted old-fashioned. Our appetizers included crispy calamari and pig's ear, both of which were outstanding. For my entrée, I chose the pork -- freshly butchered in-house. If you are craving actual local fish, then look no further...you found it. Everything we ate was absolutely incredible. They had whole fish that had just come in on display as you enter so you know you aren't getting frozen mahi from the Philippines, or black cod from Alaska etc. Our server was super helpful in describing the differences between the different options. Wound up getting opah and a NY strip that was dry aged to perfection. When we were leaving we saw a fisherman walk through the front door late at night bringing them stuff he had just caught. Oh and when the server says the desserts are shareable he's not kidding, but they're so good so just go for it! read more

Got lucky enough to have this spot recommended by a server at morimoto and man did we hit the jackpot. This has to be the best deal on Maui for a killer meal. The raw of the day dish was blue marlin with Vietnamese flavors and it was awesome. They've got a rotating local pork entree that was fun and the dry aged steaks were amazing. They also do a whole roasted local fish that feeds 4 and is EPIC! Go try this spot asap before it becomes impossible to get a reso, it's that good and they're 2 weeks in! read more

The ambience and service were excellent, which made for a pleasant dining experience. Unfortunately, the battered fried fish was quite disappointing--especially given the high price. It arrived at the table and lacked the crisp texture you'd expect. Additionally, the black bean sauce and cucumber salad didn't pair well with the fish. We had a great dining experience at Koast! The steak and mahi mahi plates were both delicious - Nicely prepared and of flavor. The drinks were also spot-on and complemented the meal really well. Our 2nd time to Koast was just as delicious as the first. Friendly and knowledge staff that seems to really love what they do. Fish tartare was packed full of flavor, octopus toast was spicy and delicious and the whole roasted kanpachi is probably the dish I'm gonna crave most on this island. Also had a delicious bottle of wine for under $80 which we thought was impossible in Wailea. Keep up the good work Koast! read more
