Bluefin tuna poke bowl
Maricel A.

Was able to swing by this morning on our way north. The sushi rice was perfect today! Thank you for the five star service and good vibes as usual. I ordered a bluefin tuna poke bowl.

Happy soft opening Koakai Brewing! Early on a Saturday afternoon & the word was already out. The place was packed. The small parking lot in front was full & most of the nearby streets were lined with parked cars, but I scored a spot about a 1/2 block away. Inside is a long L-shaped bar for seating. It was tight quarters with so many people. Just outside the front door are some tables in a covered patio. That area was completely full too. I did manage to grab a seat at the end of the bar by the register. Next door is the joint business, Kyoto Japanese Market, whose kitchen they are smartly leveraging for bites to go with the brews in Koakai. Service was welcoming & very attentive even with how busy it was. For beers, they offer taster pours, as well as full pints & 10 oz. I went the taster route & tried all 6 beers they had to offer on this opening day. All 6 beers tried were very good to excellent. Their XPA emerged as a fave. I was getting peckish so I also got a Smoked Pork Belly Musubi, to which I added a 10 oz of the XPA. The Smoked Pork Belly Musubi was quite tasty & the XPA washed it down nicely. Even on day 1, Koakai Brewing had a good thing going. Everything looked to be running pretty smoothly & everything was tasting good. Congrats on the soft opening Koakai Brewing! Cheers!

Awesome new Oside brewery! Tasty brews and what looked like amazing food (we already ate-- next time). Super friendly staff, nice interior, and a cute outdoor patio space. We will definitely be back!

Sushi & bbq menu, available till sold-out

We both tried the yakatori chicken plate. It was tasty with a great sauce but wasn't really yakitori. My thigh yakatori was a single bone-in piece of thigh, well-cooked but hard to eat with chopsticks, My wife's chicken breast yakatori was slice breast meat with sauce poured over. Tasty but again not a skewer. We ordered at 12:20 & perhaps because of how busy they were, the regular yakatori was sold out. The sides of the plate were great especially the cucumber salad. This was their grand opening so crowded & our 1st time here. Seating is limited but we were able to get a table after a short wait. I tried their Takumi Rice Lager beer & it was cold & refreshing. We've been customers of Kyotos Market for decades so it's great to see the brewery bring people to one of our favorite places.

On two occasions I came here and had two different kinds of experiences. Both were Dam good times…read more. The first time was after roller skating nearby and I was one HUNGRY beaver! So my friend Nanci and I turned to Yelp for help. She had been to this location before and I frequent the Vista tavern and grill (mainly when Jimmy Paton is playing) with my family. Knowing that this one wasn't a restaurant we looked up on their calendar and excitedly saw that the Oishi sushi fusion pop up would be here. I've had them elsewhere several times and am a fan of them! AND we also saw that they have live music on Friday nights too! Oh yeah! This day the music was by Kimmi Bitter duo with Willis Farnsworth. I love the 60/70's vibe that they've got going on! Definitely a fun FriYay night out with our favorite of things ie Grub, drink AND what felt like a VIP live music show! I loved the open floor plan especially because after that fun workout prior I was able to cool down with the fresh air. Cuz I was one sweaty Betty, Ha! We noticed that they have BINGO on Thursdays and so the pre-planning of my 50th birthday spinning wheels in my head began! How perfect that my actual birthday fell on the same day as a bingo night. Spinning Meats Mediterranean pop up would be there. Rain or Shine. You see it's usually very hard to plan an actual birthday event for my birthday because it's so close to the hustle bustle of the Holidays. It also likes to be a rainy day. We lucked out here! I called and spoke to Ashley (forgive if I got the name wrong but that's what this old brain remembers). about making reservations and she informed me that it really is a free-for-all/first come basis as far as the table seating goes. But she did reserve one high communal table for me, RSVP for a half an hour prior to the first BINGO game. That worked out perfectly as my event was more casual and my friends would be trickling in and out during the evening. Several of my guests that attended my event are fellow YELPers too and we are always recommending our favorite places with one another. The entire venue felt like it was my own as we befriended strangers and shared other tables, luv and laughs all around & even shared my cake with them too. I was having surgery just days after this event so I only had one seltzer drink and it was good. I love that it didn't have fake dye coloring in it. My friends loved the place, their brews, and I loved their presence! Thank you BBB~O'side crew. You were amazing! Tho a bit bummed that no one out of my group won a bingo game but one guy won twice!?! How!?! Scratches head. We had a great time and truly am looking forward to my/our next experience here!

We had a great experience at this Oceanside location and enjoyed the Thursday night bingo and food…read morefrom Spinning Meats. The staff was gracious in reserving a big table so we can our friends join us in celebrating my wife's birthday. Service has been stellar so far during our visits here. We're are sure to come back for bingo nights and will try some of the other events as well.
