I always heard the knock kneed lobster had great fish and chips. So the wife and I traveled from our home in Surprise across town just to give it a try. We made a mistake by (each) ordering a four piece, fish and chips. (Big mistake). The portions were so large we could not eat them all. In fact, we could have shared just 1 order between us. I Have been here several times and never have had a problem until today. I had ordered my food sat down and started to eat. I noticed that I was missing my shrimp so I approached the cashier with my concern he began speaking spanish to the cooks I speak Spanish so I knew what he was saying he made it seem as I was making my shrimp being missing up. He asked me why did I not come up right away! I informed him I was too busy eating to notice until my husband mentioned it. A female cook came up and stated that she was going to give me my 4 pieces of shrimp that I was missing but next time for me to come up right away. I informed her that I had absolutely no reason to lie to her. I took a family member here for lunch this trip. We have not been here since the whole COVID situation started. We both got the 2 piece fish with two shrimp. I will say the food kicks serious booty. The fish and shrimp were cooked perfectly. The breading was awesome. I got a couple of the hot sauces to kick in some serious flavour. The french fries were good too. If you like fish and chips this is the place to come. The next time I come back I will get the one piece fish and 4 shrimp. Plus that hot sauce too. read more

Horrible customer service! Been going there since I was a kid but today will be the last. The so called manager that was working the cashier today was very rude. My son and I decided to go here for lunch and ordered two plates. My wife decided to meet us, so I sent my 14yr old son back up to order for his mom. I gave him my credit card told him what to order, heard him give her the order and she put it in wrong. Now as my wife arrives the order comes out and it was wrong. She takes it to the cashier and says "excuse me but our order came out wrong". Cashier responds well that's what on the receipt why didn't he check the receipt. First off I heard him order correctly and this lady was relentless. Lost my business for sure! Vey sad! This so called manager must be miserable and hates her job. I should have known from the start. When I first walked in and asked why they don't serve fish tacos on Friday, her response was "too many people order them". Seriously!!!! You have your choice of various seafood, and an option for chicken for those that aren't seafood-inclined, with various fried sides such as fried zucchini, mushrooms, and fries. I opted to share a 3 piece fish and chips, and tried some fried okra and fried zucchini. The fish and chips had a perfectly crispy crust, with flaky tender fish. The fried okra and zucchini were delicious. The okra was not slimy at all, and the zucchini had a lovely tenderness to contrast with the crisp breading. After ordering at the counter, you have a plethora of condiments to choose from, such as tartar sauce, vinegar, ketchup, and ranch. The soda fountain is self serve, and they offer good sugar free options such as diet Mountain Dew. As delicious as their food is, their service sucks. My husband went to pick up our order, paid for it, and they never called our number. But they called all the other numbers after us. Later we realize there's a brown bag sitting there. We were gonna get it but they kept telling us to wait for our order. We were upset already. Then later, they tell us that bag was ours the WHOLE time. Food was cold!!! I dont get it. The workers here suck- they don't know what customer service us. I'm going to start off by saying I disagree with other peoples Yelp reviews in regards to the "catfish being really good". It was absolutely ghastly! I can tell the Catfish was not fresh because it looked dull, it wasn't moist, it wasn't flaky, and when I chewed it instantly turned into mush in my mouth. I'm pretty sure this fish was either expired or frozen. I'm very disappointed in this restaurant for serving me trash for 16.95. It wasn't worth it! Save your money and go somewhere else!! The only thing I liked about the catfish was how crunchy the breading was but yet that was also bland. I also ordered the hush puppies which were the only thing good on my plate. The fries were dried out like they been sitting under a lamp all day. By far this is the worst place I tried catfish and Hopefully I don't get sick. I won't be returning back to this place and wish this business the best of luck. You guys want delicious catfish go to WTF and order MARYLN'S fish and chips. You wont be disappointed. Just ate some fried cod (2 pieces) and fried zucchini as the side. Yum! I called and a gentleman picked Up the phone right away and I asked if they had any other fish besides fried catfish. He said yes they do they have fried tilapia and Cod as well so I ordered two pieces of cod and a side of fried zucchini which he said would be a small upcharge... no big deal at all. Told him I'd be about 10 minutes away driving and sure enough when I got there they had just finished an older gentleman's order and he was carrying it out and they were carrying mine up to the counter just as I was paying for it. Really excellent timing on their part. They were both very courteous and informed where to find the napkins and condiments and had already asked which condiments I wanted on the phone. The fish tasted was fresh and was fried to perfection. Very flaky and nice little subtle cod flavor without being fishy. The side is your cane is wow what a huge portion and I'll probably have to eat some of those there's a leftover but they are tasty and good as well. This place has been around for over 70 years in Phoenix. I met my friend's parents there and we had the cod. Yes t was good fish and not greasy. It will need some sort of sauce to enhance the flavor. They offer a variety including malt vinegar and a cocktail one. We also shared some hush puppies, fried zucchini and steamed broccoli. I gave it a 4 because the service was okay not great. I was excited to try KnockKneed because seafood is normally a healthy option but my excitement quickly faded when I found that everything is breaded and fried and they use low quality ingredients and charge high prices for it. I eat a ketogenic diet meaning very low carb so I asked what is not breaded... Of all the items on the menu there are only two or 3 that are not breaded. So I ordered one of the 3... It was unremarkable so I don't remember what it was. I think baked cod. Of all there options for sides broccoli is the only low carb non breaded and fried option. When I got my dinner it was a thin fish fillet that looked like something you get frozen at a grocery store. The broccoli was steamed OK but tasted a bit off so I asked whether they use real butter or margerine (because I avoid the inflamitory oils in margerine) at first they did not know so I asked them to bring me what they use so I could see. It was not butter but a huge bottle of liquid butter flavored oil.... No Thankyou... So I at my fish and broccoli because I paid over 20 dollars for it but will never be going back and will be proactively warning people not to go. Terrible quality food!!! read more

This is the first time for me but my sister has been here many times and really likes the fish. I am not the best person to review seafood considering I do not eat seafood :-) but my friend did! I had the zucchini and ordered a large to share with my friend. Omg, a large comes with 12 pieces of zucchini and they were big! It was way too much for two people but they were good. They were especially yummy with their ranch dressing. My friend had the fish and shrimp...loved them both. He said he found his new favorite fish (which is hand cut Alaskan cod). I've been going to knock kneed for years ever since I was a kid. Tonight I just had the worst customer service. I walked in the building at 625p. The cashier said it's only takeout. I simply asked out of curiosity if you close at 7pm why is it takeout. She replied anything after 630 is takeout. I looked at my phone said it's not 630 it's 625. She then said she has to go by the the time of the register. She then pulls out her phone takes a photo like what does your phone say. Then she gets all aggressive I don't have to tell you what my phone says. So then she replies I didn't charge your card I'm just going to refuse service now. Went there after seeing it on the Only in Your State website. The portions are enormous. I ordered the 4 piece fish and chips, my wife had the 2 piece with 2 shrimp, and we split an order of mushrooms and zucchini. Had enough left over for lunch the next day. They could definitely stand to season the food a bit more, but after you salt it up it's pretty good. The shrimp are kind of strange, won't have those again. Okay, it's been a month and I'm a big fan of second chances, so I went back. Mostly good. The stars must've been aligned because someone took my order this time! It was late lunch hour on a Monday and there were plenty of customers sitting inside. Glad to see it's consistently busy, if for no other reason than 'product turnover'... always a good thing at a seafood place. ; ^} Waited quite a while for my food, but again, in the interest of getting it hot and fresh, I'll be patient. No problem. Ordered a two-piece deep-fried cod meal that came with two sides. It was HOT, so that's good. The fish was fresh and tasted like a good piece of cod should taste: mild, slightly sweet and it chunked into firm, moist and fully cooked bites. The coating was brown and crunchy. Very mild coating, but I'd rather taste the fish than the breading anyway. All good. Sides were, well, just okay. Hushpuppies were smallish and tasted of onion. Not bad, but smaller than golf balls. The coleslaw was plentiful, sweet and had plenty of dressing. Again, not bad, but not spectacular either. I might've given it a 4-star rating, but the staff was going through the motions, I think. Again, not to be high maintenance, but how about a "Hi. What can I get for you?" with a smile? I don't know... maybe that's asking too much in 2019? I'll be back, at least until I find a better spot with people who act if as they care, even if just a little. read more

I live in CA, and my family goes to Scottsdale at least three times a year. This is our "go-to" for super delicious fried oysters, hush puppies, and fish and chips. We also love the fried clams. This is a family-owned restaurant. They've had the same cook(s) for over two decades. My son, Ray, absolutely loves the fried shrimp, which goes very well with the cocktail sauce. As for me personally, if I am going to have fried food, well...it's gotta be worth it. This is my favorite fish and chips restaurant. If you haven't tried it, I say TREAT YOURSELF. I've become quite addicted to this place where they might start knowing my order by heart. I've had their shrimp n chips and fish n chips and love the fish n chips sub the fried okra. It's hard to get fried okra just right and they nailed it. The fries are also great, but I'm in love with fish and okra. The sign says out of catfish so I would like to try that from them some day. There's endless sauces from cocktail, ketchup, ranch, tartar, Louisiana hot sauce, malt vinegar, and lemons for some flair to the food. I like you can make your dish your own! The shrimp is great as it's butterfly and split open long and just felt like mostly breading rather then a thick piece of shrimp inside. The cod fish though is great. Nicely breaded not too thick not too thin, just right! The ladies at the front are also very nice and helpful. Do not waste your money. The clam chowder had ok flavor, the clam were inedible they were so chewy, they didn't peel the onions well so the were papery chunks. The "large shrimp" are a joke. You can't even tell there are shrimp in that breading and absolutely no taste. SE pictures. The fish resembled precooked frozen fish. I actually rather eat at long John silver's which I never eat at. Have not been here in a long time. Was happy to see that little has changed as I was worried after reading some of the recent reviews. I don't know what the deal is but to all 4 of us the food & service was great. The fish was fresh, not greasy, great taste. Shrimp was fresh & obviously not farm raised. Sides were great - some of the best okra I've had in Arizona. I saw some complaints about the food being bland - um it's fried food and if it was highly seasoned there would be those complaining about that - you can't please everyone. KKL has been around a long time & the are usually busy. There is something to be said for longevity in Phoenix in the restaurant biz - obviously they are doing something right .
