Tried their $12.95 lunch special from 11:30am-3:30pm and it was great! It'a +$2-3 for protein like chicken or shrimp but it's still so affordable. For $25 (including 22% tip) I got an appetizer (spring rolls), a well portioned entree, and a thai iced tea. Honestly to me this is a win for it being in St. Marks! The staff were extremely welcoming and kind too, frequently refilling my water and having patient and caring demeanors. I did not at all feel rushed like some restaurants unfortunately make you feel today, and the lighting was really nice and relaxing! The bathroom was also pretty clean and spacious though I do wish there was more than just one stall. Overall great experience would come again and do recommend :). read more

As part of an Asian American & Pacific Islander faculty and staff event at my university, we ordered catering from Klong and were thoroughly impressed not only by the excellent catering menu with great combo choices, but the impeccable delivery service. The delivery guy helped us set up our catering trays in our venue, included disposable serving spoons and tongs, and was incredibly professional and courteous. We ordered the papaya salad, varied types of pan fried and steamed dumplings, calamari, taro spring rolls, pad see ew, pad thai, and different types of fried rice. Everyone was really well-fed and happy! I'd highly recommend this restaurant not just to eat out with friends or family, but they are an excellent option for catering a larger event! read more

I didn't realize how long Klong has been around until I just read some of my Yelp friends' reviews going back to 2005, but having recently dined here I can see (and smell) the years of life this restaurant has experienced. And while this place is whatever the opposite of shiny and new is, it's impressive they can stand the test of time, drawing new diners like me to their space despite all of New York being completely saturated by places serving this wonderful cuisine. Klong may be somewhat forgettable, but they're also old reliable. My friends and I dined in and found it very easy to grab walk in seats. We got many of the classics, including calamari, kee mao, green curry, taro fries, and vegetable dumplings. The most basic of orders, and you know what? The flavors were solid. Service was quite lax and slow moving for how few diners were in the restaurant, but we weren't in any rush. I'd say the biggest detractor was the smell of wet rag that permeated the place. Also that it was a summer day and they just had the door open with no AC. I get that bills are high but I really didn't like getting chewed out by mosquitoes while dining indoors. I'd say if you're in the mood for Thai, go ahead and give Klong a try. But maybe spring for takeout instead of dining in. read more

Food was just okay, but honestly what more can you expect from a $12 lunch deal. It comes with an app, a soup/salad, and a main. Like, you're definitely getting bang for your buck, so I can't complain. I thought the spring rolls were lovely and crispy, and I ordered the peanut sauce chicken. It was good enough, but I think I was just hoping for the sauce to be more integrated with the chicken and the broccoli. The way it was served was that it was literally just boiled chicken and broccoli with a heaping of peanut sauce on top. Came here for dinner with some others, I split the Crispy Mango Fish & Ka-Pi Fried Rice with my partner. The fish comes with a good amount of fish and true to the name with a nice crisp. The fish was nice and moist, and the mango salad really helped to cut the oiliness of the fish--making for a mouth watering combination. The fried rice probably makes my list of top 3 fried rices I've had. The lap chung is cut into small pieces that add a nice chew to each mouthful. The Thai chili's are pretty spicy, but you can easily move them to the side if you have mild-medium spice tolerance only like me. The table shared a pitcher of the Phuket, where the pineapple flavor really helped to mask/balance out the alcohol. I don't usually drink very much, but I finished out a whole glass! Very refreshing drink that goes well with the food/adds a nice tropical note to the meal. Lighting is pretty dim here, but they really set a chill mood with candles (see picture). The servers were very attentive, and kept the water glasses filled to the brim. read more

Very unique thai food. Ive been to this restaurant twice and each time I've had something different. Their take on thai food is different from your average restaurant. Their pad thai uses a different type of noodle which is thinner. The Ka-Pi fried rice was such a unique dish, its use of fish paste is definitely an acquired taste, and had a very delicious mix of ingredients. I also had a curry that I couldnt remember the name of -- it had blood cubes, a chicken drumstick, and eggplant. That dish was delicious but incredibly spicy, be warned. read more

But the pad see ew was SUPER salty and oily. The first few bites were okay but then it got unbearably salty. The meat was also chewy and hard to eat. Ambiance and service was nice. We got a lychee pitcher and it was suuuuper tasty. Great price point too. It definitely brings the nearby nyu students, but i can see why. Good food, cheap drinks, good ambiance. It was on the level of seriously mediocre frozen meals that had nothing to do with authentic dishes they were supposed to represent. 10 dollar soup was a small watery dirt water plastic dish - the main flavors that stood out were fish sauce and sugar. Great Thai restaurant! Came here with my cousin on a Monday evening and was seated right away. We ordered the Grilled Squid Legs ($12), Kee Mao with beef ($18), and Khoa Soy ($20). The food can relatively quickly, and service was amazing! The squid legs were large and flavorful with large amounts of diced garlic and peppers. At some point, it became really spicy and maybe some kind of acidity would have also balanced out/complemented the spice. But good nonetheless! The Kee Mao came with a lot of beef (even more than the flat noodles). This dish was also really well flavored but felt like it was missing something...I still recommend trying it out though. Lastly, I've never had Khoa Soy before, but I loved it! It came with 2 large chicken drumsticks that were slow-cooked and fall-off-the-bone. Super tender and moist, pairing nicely with the creamy and coconutty curry. The laksa noodles absorbed the curry so well and started to become a bit soft, so I recommend eating this dish right away if you order it. Overall, I definitely recommend coming here! This was my second time here and I can say Klong has definitely made one of my go-to spots for a fun night out with friends! It not only has delicious drinks, but the thai food here is also some of my favorite which says a lot given the over-populated thai food scene in New York. The vibes here give casual night out with its dim lighting. I recommend the red sangria (especially if you like fruity non-alcohol tasting alcoholic drinks), the crispy mango fish, and the ka-pi fried rice (all which I ordered both times I visited). The crispy mango fish is well fried, tangy and just the right amount of spice (and boneless which is a plus for me!). The fried rice has a mix of all the right flavors and textures (you just have to taste it for yourself). The only minus is that this place can get quite busy especially on popular night out days which results in the waiters being a bit antsy about clearing your table and rushing you a bit. It's a lot of food which I skipped dinner after this (food coma is real haha). This place has a lot of indoor seating and much more spacious than the other restaurants on the same block. I ordered the salad, the mixed dumplings, and the pad kee mao with chicken. The salad was fresh and had fried tofu surprisingly. The mixed dumplings tasted fresh and had a Thai chili sauce. Yesterday August 14 I went back. We where 5 people . Came here last night and interior wise very pretty for a chill hangout or cute date! My friend and I ordered the chicken wings that had a slight spicy kick to it but were the best and even added some classic edamame. My party of 2 was seated immediately in the afternoon on a Sunday. I ordered the massaman curry with chicken. Just to preface that I usually expect massaman curry to be more on the sweeter side of curries and to be thicker yet very flavorful with chunks of vegetables. I did not really get that with my dish. The flavors were not as intense and only lightly sweet and the vegetables did not seem to have absorbed the flavors from the curry. It was also a little off putting biting into larger pieces of onion and soggy peanuts. However, the portion size was generous and came with a side of white rice for a reasonable price. Like no duh because you gave us such a small table. I was struggling to not knock down the my drink glasses around me the entire dinner. A must try place in New York if you love Thai food! This place is exciting in that they have a separate menu for "Authentic Thai" dishes that are different than the common green curry and pad Thai noodles you see. We got the fried taro sticks, crispy mango fish, and ka-pi (shrimp paste) fried rice. None of these I have tried at a Thai restaurant before so I was super excited! Everything turned out amazing. Crispy mango fish comes with a bowl of rice - if you like a blend of freshness in your main entree this dish is perfect because you get a slight chili spice with the warm fried fish filet but also a slight tangy taste of fresh mango. It is a bit spicy but you can ask the waiter in advance to make it as not spicy as possible. Ka-Pi (shrimp paste) fried rice is nothing like your regular fried rice. It is presented in a way similar to bibimbap where they top the rice with all the delicious ingredients - mango, candied pork belly, dried shrimps, sausages, and more! You can then mix all the ingredients together to make this magical mouth watering fried rice dish. Again, the freshness of the mango adds an unforgettable taste. This place is amazing. Steamed Dumpling (B) - The steamed dumpling is incredibly flavorful, with the balance of fish sauce, palm sugar, and tamarind mixed with herbs to create a harmonious balance of thai flavors. Unfortunately though, the actual dumpling is dry inside. House Salad (B) The house salad is driven by a sumptuous peanut sauce, which emphasizes authentic flavors.
