One of the best things about the tulip festival is the salmon barbecue. If you are in Mount Vernon in April for the tulip festival check out the salmon barbecue put on by the Kiwanis. For a reasonable price you get salmon, a couple of sides, garlic, bread, beverage, and an ice cream treat. You can sit down on a table and eat it there or many people come and take the meals home. You'll often be able to buy raffle tickets for a fundraiser and do some socializing while you're there. It's one of the best meals you can get in Mount Vernon.

Excellent wild caught king and silver salmon barbecued to perfection. The Kiwanis volunteers are friendly folks and have a nice facility.

They have menus by the window, and you order at the counter, we found ample seating near the windows to look upon the passerbyers. We ordered cold items so they wouldn't take too long up prep; a side of macaroni salad, a Keegan-the-Vegan sandwich and a Honey Lavender Latte to share. Everything was lovely and a perfect portion for us, splitting the sandwich and the creamy mac salad. The sandwich had curried chickpea salad and it was delicious! The Lavender Latte was perfection, not to sweet but a yes in the lavender world. We overheard others come in specifically for their cookies, so we grabbed a coco loco to go. It was filled with coconut and macadamia nuts, was so perfectly moist in the center. Thank you Krista for looking after us!

There is some street parking, but we ended up parking in a public parking lot north of the cafe. The place is cute and charming, and it's decorated with art that is for sale. The menu on the wall was just for drinks, and their food menu was laminated nearby for us to peruse. We had a nice chat with JJ (who I think is the co-owner), and he was very bubbly and nice. It was fun to witness his kindness to other customers and neighbors as they came in. This place seems very involved with the community. There are a few tables both outside and inside. The TV behind us was playing Pandora for radio music. Nearby, they had some free chocolate-covered coffee beans and your own water and silverware station. I got an Arnold Palmer, and boy, was it tart! I got my own sugar to try to sweeten it up. I also ate the Ricky Ricardo panini, and it wasn't my favorite. The aioli wasn't flavorful enough for me to notice, or maybe it was missing, and the pickles were too thick. I didn't love the flavor profile on this sandwich, and it was pretty hot (in temperature) to eat, so I had to let it cool down a bit. Connor loved his smoked salmon toast! There were a ton of capers, so lots of salt there. The herbed cream cheese was the star of the show, with the flavorful toast being a close second. He really appreciated it. I think I'd be happy to come back and try a different sandwich.

We ordered 12 wings sweet and extra spicy. First 12 is a lot as the wings are quite large. Second they are well covered with sauce and extra spicy is very spicy. The wings came out hot and crisp. They were excellently cooked and very flavorful. I thought they were also very sweet along with the heat. If you like very spicy they are for you. We did enjoy them, but I could only eat two! We brought them home and I hope they heat up well. I will definitely go back and try the others and I do recommend trying this place out. We didn't try the bowls, they did look really good.

Clean, well lit, simple is best, and direct no frills business. The staff is nice and the patrons are constantly rotating through. We noticed lots of different folks getting to go and some food drivers doing pick up. Even younger kids like the spice and crunch of the chicken. I mostly order the sweet spicy or sweet and extra spicy wings and drumsticks on the bone. The original of course is soy garlic. The sandwich was good but since I'm trying to eliminate high processed foods I ended up removing one bun and eating open faced. This sandwich is best eaten on site and piping hot. I admit I am a French fry snob. These were ok but a little dry for me. I ate a few and then left them. I felt bad for wasting but if I'm going to eat high processed foods they had better be top notch in taste knowing my arthritis is going to impact me later. My kids like tteokboki but know it is on the high end of spiciness. You have been warned. Love this place and will continue to dine in. Enjoy!

Our server was Rainey, she was awesome, very attentive, and came to our table right away to take our order. The atmosphere at Temperate Habits is very nice, there is outside seating but we sat inside due to the bright evening sun. Our meals took quite a while to arrive, I think we were at the tail end of the dinner rush and my guess is they have a small kitchen. My classic cheeseburger was about the most generic, predictable, and utterly boring burger I could imagine, and for $17 I would certainly not return for that or the mundane shoestring fries. The burger patty, bun, and fries were all non creative and the there was nothing even the slightest bit unique about my burger, in fact I swear it is the exact same burger that the Skagit River Brewery serves just around the corner. The surprise entree was the Crab and Lobster Tots, now whoever thought that would be good? The plate looked very strange to say the least but I have to say.... this dish was really good! So you'd think if they could create that total mayhem of a dish that they could get far more creative with the burgers and least have a house burger sauce or a higher quality bun for $17, something? I might return to Temperate Habits to have a drink with friends and share some tots, because they give you a large enough portion for four people, but I would certainly look elsewhere for a good burger. 5 stars for atmosphere and service, 1 star for the burger, 4 stars for the tots.

The patio faces one of the main streets so there was lots of good people watching. I ordered a beer flight and was very satisfied with all four of my selections: Prickly Pear Kolsch - it was creamy and easy to drink, bursting with prickly pear flavor; just the right amount of tart and sweet. Lightly Buzzed Honey Lavender Blonde - my favorite of the flight; it was very hoppy but light and refreshing and well balanced by intense lavender flavor and a smooth honey finish. Get it! You won't regret it. High Five Hefe - lighter/less hazy and more hoppy than most hefes it made for a unique and complimentary beer on my flight. Pommeroys Citra Pale Ale - a perfect West Coast IPA. To eat, my pup got the Lucky Dog hamburger (which the chef pre-cut) and loved it! He chowed down in less than a minute. And I got the Mac & Cheese Burger (sub a veggie patty) with the Garlic Fries. It was a very indulgent meal to say the least. The burger was loaded with so much Mac & Cheese that I couldn't even put the top bun on it and pick it up. lol I had to knife and fork the whole thing which was totally worth it. The Mac is a classic home style recipe (think Stouffers but better). Their fries are shoestring and super crispy and salty. And they loaded those up with an amazing garlic aioli and Parmesan. I got a side of their house-made curry aioli and was obsessed with it. Every fry that didn't have sauce or parm got a dip in that deliciousness and I added it to quite a few of the burger bites too. All in all, a great brewpub that I look forward to returning to in the future!
