Kitchen & Coffee is a cozy and elegant eatery right at the heart of Main Street in Beacon. There was a small line during brunch on a Sunday, and rightfully so. The restaurant boasts of it vegetarian, gluten-free, and locally sourced ingredients. We had the Black & Green Bowl, which was delicious and healthy, and the Umami Mushroom Burger. The portion of the burger and its accompanying sides of salad and potatoes were really small, so if you're coming with a voracious appetite, I suggest going for something else. Everything was great about the dining experience, but the pricing is a little more expensive than what I'd typically like to spend for lunch, especially if it's just vegetables. read more

Updating this review as I went back on Sunday, Oct 9th and was soooo disappointed in their whoppie pies. It appears they may have changed their filling recipe because it didn't taste the same at all. The vanilla whoppie was old but the chocolate one was good (the cake part not the filling). I wonder what happened, I used to drive 1+ hours each way just to buy these and now not sure I would unless they change the recipe back! read more

Absolutely delicious gluten-free plant based cuisine! We enjoyed Sweet Potato Burger, Warm Rice Curry, Harvest Bowl and Avocado Toast. The food is fresh and well-prepared. Service is friendly and helpful. There are three areas to dine, tables in the front are nice because you can enjoy the ambiance of Main Street, inside is clean and modern and the rear patio has quiet seating too. Great for singles, couples, families or groups. It gets busy but finding a spot to sit is not too hard between the options. We will definitely be back the next time we visit Beacon. As has been mentioned, it is on the pricier side but worth it! read more

I love going here as a special trip, however, it's becoming less frequent these days. Their up charge for nondairy milk is a bit much... $1.50... really? Everything I have had has been delicious however! I am GF and DF, however, I annoyingly also can't have soy. Although staff are friendly, they have to look up everything in a giant book and it always majorly holds up the (always present) line and feels like a huge annoyance. I always give up and don't order a treat. I wish they could offer an easily accessible list of ingredients for reference or indicate if their baked items without labels have major allergens. I know this isn't required, but it would go a lonnnnng way for those who have sensitivities outside gluten and dairy. read more

Delicious food and coffee! I ordered the tempeh Reuben and it was amazingly tasty! So similar to a real Ruben and they had the most amazing salad on the side with red water crea that tasted as if it was just picked from a garden. I ordered a vegan peppermint mocha iced latte which was also made to perfection. My fiancé ordered the avocado toast and said he wasn't a fan, there was something in it that he didn't like. I thought might was delicious though, I would definitely go back! They had so many vegan baked goods as well! Oh how I wanted to like this place. The outdoor patio is adorable, the staff is kind, the menu looks good. But The food is just not great and I've tried three times. Today I got a chia seed pudding to go, usually a favorite. It was dry and flavorless and tbh, Inedible. I threw it away after a few bites; it was actually so bad I almost went back to ask for credit for something else. Another time I got the pho. Overly spicy and lukewarm. Probably worst pho I ever had. The one decent dish was the umami burger another time. But so tiny it really wasn't worth the $16 price tag. Like a mini mini burger. If this place improved its food I would eat there every time I come to beacon. I love the town and I love this spot. But food needs vast improvement. Otherwise I'm better at the food mall! read more

It was so amazing to be able to find a cafe in Beacon where most everything is gluten-free and vegan. They have one quiche dish which I believe is vegetarian, but everything else is gluten-free and vegan and healthy and delicious. I loved the chickpea sandwich (as not only is it turmeric goodness but it comes on a gluten-free baguette!) which comes with a potato salad and small side salad. I also like the cauliflower bowl and the banh mi bowl with tempeh. They also have a whole display of gluten-free vegan desserts that are absolutely delicious. I enjoyed the matcha bundt cake and the zucchini and pecan cinnamon bread, but they also have more decadent desserts like vegan cupcakes. They also have great healthy drinks here as well. Just one note that their hours are 7 am to 7 pm, but the kitchen doesn't open until at least 8 am and closes earlier. They have a lot of patio seating both in the front and back as well as indoor seating. Food comes out fast and all the employees are nice, helpful and seem to enjoy working there. read more

I just moved to beacon a month ago. My boyfriend's mom was visiting and we wanted to explore the downtown area. We went into the shop to get coffee and eat outside to enjoy. One of the employees was extremely rude and nasty towards me my boyfriend and his mom when we moved a table to be in the shade apparently we were on the sidewalk where people walk through to the shop. Had I have known I would have gladly moved instead the man was rude and made us get up and acted like we were suppose to know. I had just lived here looking forward to finding my next coffee spot but unfortunately I do not think I will be returning anytime soon for the rude service towards new people coming to this beautiful place. read more

I was in the neighborhood exploring and I'm always eager to try vegan and gluten free items especially treats. We ordered a vegan Whoopie pie and a vegan chocolate pecan cookie. I was very disappointed with them both as the chocolate whoopie pie and it's cream inside was just downright chalky and tasteless and that cookie was oily and heavy and didn't taste like much. I've been traveling all around for years trying out the best vegan desserts so we thought we would give a try at a new place and it was an epic fail and regretted for not getting vegan treats at a different place. Not to mention thank god we canceled the order for the loaf of bread, first of all, $12.50 for a loaf that is smaller than most bakery loaves. Kitchen & Coffee is so beyond delightful. It is SO great that they are both gluten-free and vegetarian. I've been twice and loved everything I had. Thee bowls I've had are the golden bowl (delectable) and a salad. I also tried their chickpea "tuna" salad which was so good I might call them up for their recipe. And baked goods! Ugh. Poptart, muffin, brownie, cookie. All freaking delicious. The place is so cute too. They have TONS of space--several tables inside and then a handful in the back patio and even more tables outside to the left of the building. It would have to be wildly busy to not find a spot. Just beware that their kitchen seems to close way before their closing time. I think you can only get already baked items and drinks after a certain time. Not sure at what time their kitchen actually closes because it's not stated anywhere and the staff member wasn't very helpful he just saw us looking at their menu and only yelled "hey kitchen is closed, just so you know". Epitome of a coffee shop for hipsters haha but makes you feel as if you are right in Brooklyn. Great spot to bring your laptop and do work, which a number of people were doing. I came in with my mom for a little breakfast. I had the avocado toast which was very good and the turmeric paste was a nice flavorful touch. My mom had the oatmeal with coconut milk and absolutely swore by it. The flat white with oat milk did not disappoint, and it was a comfortable environment to sit and enjoy the coffee and breakfast. Disappointed. I thought I would try a new local place, however I've been charged different prices for each time I have visited for the same two size coffees. When I mentioned that, never I'm sorry this won't happen again....I got "do you have your receipt?", no because I pay cash. So if you pay cash, I guess they can't properly help you. I never got a paper receipt or was ever asked if I would like one (it's a cup of coffee, didn't know I needed to save them just in case). Customer service not great. I sure hope that wasn't the owner who I spoke with today because I certainty wouldn't recommend it or go back. Many places popping up in beacon for coffee. I'll give my business elsewhere by nicer employees. Lastly, maybe not count your money in the front of the cafe with bank bags in front of customers. Maybe try an office. read more

Liked this 200000x better than the Banana Wildflower Honey Toast. I feel like I see what they were going for but it wasn't on the right bread for me. Maybe because the toast is gluten free? I've had a lot of gluten free bread that I like though, so I'm not sure. It wasn't horrible, but wouldn't order again. The flavor palette was flat too for me. The food we got was good but... For a restaurant that put the emphasis on local and health, there were a few faux-pas: 1) we asked to stay and got served in disposable containers, "in case of". I know that was meant as a nice thing, but the reason we asked to stay was specifically to avoid disposable items (funny enough the table behind is got served in proper plate). 2) the bowls and a few other things are "compostable". But the restaurant doesn't separated compostable items but toss them in recycling which is likely to contaminate said recycling. So, if you really care about your footprint and how much waste you create I would not recommend this place right now. However they don't have much to do to make it better... read more
