The biggest drawbacks were the atmosphere and the condition of the restaurant. The space has an outdated feel, there was a noticeable musty odor, and the dining area didn't appear as clean as it could be, which took away from the experience. Another inconvenience is that they only accept cash. Although there is an ATM on-site, customers shouldn't have to withdraw cash just to pay for a meal. In today's world, offering debit and credit card payments--or other electronic payment options--is simply an expectation and would make the experience much more convenient. Overall, the food was okay, but the ambiance, cleanliness, and cash-only policy make it difficult for me to recommend or return.

We've enjoyed everything we've ordered here, and just gotta add some special praise for the fried chicken and waffle sandwich + the pearl sugar waffles. We've dined here for brunch on two separate occasions, and here's what I recommend: - Be sure to make reservations, especially if there'll be more than maybe 3 people in your party. Cozy in this case also means limited seating, and actually I'm not sure if they take walk-ins. You can make reservations on their website. (They do also offer outdoor seating, weather permitting.) - Get the pastry tower! Actual selection appears to rotate, and we've enjoyed the varying assortments we received on each separate visit.

Google Review 88…read moreCharles has become one of our regular spots. We've been coming here for years, and it's amazing to see the transformation from the old Italian restaurant it used to be. The new ownership really elevated the experience and brought something fresh to the town. The food has always been consistently good. If you're visiting for the first time, the Tomahawk steak is a must-try--not only is it delicious, but the tableside presentation is a show in itself. The cocktails are excellent, and the desserts are a perfect way to end the meal. The restaurant is spacious, with a nice bar area and a beautiful patio that's perfect during the warmer months. They even have heaters for the colder seasons before closing the patio for winter. Prices are reasonable for the quality of the food and overall experience, which is one of the reasons we keep coming back. The only suggestion I have for management is to pay more attention to the main entrance. The area around the ATM often has stacked chairs, boxes, or other items that make the entrance look cluttered. It's a small detail, but first impressions matter, and the entrance should reflect the quality of the restaurant inside. Overall, this is one of our favorite local restaurants, and we always enjoy coming back. Just remember they're closed on Tuesdays. Highly recommended.

If you're a steak person their steak is always on point. Good quality meat. The herb butter on the strip was the perfect compliment to the perfectly charred juicy steak. 88 Charles street has become a special place for us. Love it everytime we go.

One huge downside is that the floor seems to be always sticky which is uncomfortable when you're sitting at a table or walking in and out to get to-go. Also it's kind of awkward if you want to order a latte or anything from the coffee bar since the servers are clearly nervous and struggle to do it (might be different now, tried a year ago to order one and haven't tried again since).
