The basil chicken was delicious and very spicy as requested, the Tom yum soup was really flavorful and not watery at all like some restaurants, and the pad see ew came in a massive portion with a good balance of flavors. Also a very family friendly restaurant since there's a different type of food for everyone, and almost every week they have a live performance by a musician which is always interesting. Came here for their popular pad Thai...I came here with my son to eat dinner. We both had the Thai ice tea it was good as always. I the get the flower blossom dumplings and did not like the rice flour texture of it. Kind of pricey for the amount given. Then my son had the Penang curry and I had the pad Thai. We both thought it was ok. We are just nostalgic for the staple Thai restaurant that closed. We did like the singer they had there. We however found the couches dirty. These royal flower dumplings are top tier and a must try if you haven't. The peanuts, ground pork, it just combines so well and I crave it more each day. Crab fried rice was scrumptious and the northern curry was fairly tasteful but I'm excited to try more curries, along with more of their stir fried noodles. The cocktails we had were the Asia-Tini and the Tom Yum (get the tom yum, you won't regret it. Finished the night with some mango sticky rice and it did nicely not too sweet, but just wanted a bit more coconut flavor in the ice cream. Winner, winner, Thai dinner! I had scoured the internet and food blogs for the best Thai restaurants in Houston. Kin Dee caught my eye and intrigued my taste buds with the visual artistry of food presentation. They did not dissapoint tonight. We did not have reservations so we grabbed a seat at the bar. The female bartender was so helpful explaining each ingredient and how to eat each order. We started with the vegan dumpling with a beautiful blue hue. These dumplings were beautiful and packed with crunchy peanuts and flavored filling. Our bartender suggested we wrap them with cilantro and cut a small piece of thai chili pepper for flavor. She nailed it. These were 5/5 easily. She had also encouraged us to try the salad wraps. 4 individual royal leaves, grown by the owners daughter formed a cup for dried shrimp, shaved coconut, small piece of thai chili, and sweet sauce. They were to be eaten in one bite. The flavor and explosion of taste was memorable and incredibly delicious. This is a MUST TRY. Another great choice! Our final choice was the pad thai and it did not meet the previous dishes. The pad thai was wrapped in an egg or light pancake roll. The roll was bland and dry. It took away from the juicy flavor. The choice was fine but a real let-down compared to our previous selections. Overall, this dining experience was good and close to great. They deserve a 4.75 / 5. When we sat down all the glasses on the table were filthy - not just one, which can be a fluke, but all of them. There were dry and wet food particles inside and outside of the glass. Those were replaced by the server. One of our cloth napkins had red and brown food crust all over it - hard to believe it had been laundered at all. The final straw was one of our cocktails had a black, coarse, curly hair in it. I didn't know they required a reservation for the weekends and I really can't understand neither. My work colleague and I was immediately told that we wouldn't be able to be seated because we didn't have a reservation. However, the lady at the counter told us if we were out of the restaurant by 9p then we could have a seat. The manager walks over and says well no because party has been sitting there for 2 hours so that won't work. So she asks if we want to be placed on the waiting list. I was against it, but my work colleague insisted. We waited outside and as we waited, I looked up some nearby Thai spots, but many were closed. The manager tells us we have a table, but outside. They magically found us a table. OK. So we sit and then immediately our waitress comes to the table with menus asking us what we wanna drink and any appetizers? I get the clitoria ternatea (butterfly pea) dumplings and my work colleague has the chicken skewers. The dumplings came out first and they had a very strange taste to them. Sweet peanut paste with savoury. It was strange because the inside of the dumplings were temperature hot, but the outside was lukewarm. There was a strange aftertaste of dough that lined my mouth with the texture of wax. Work colleague said that the chicken skewers were okay, but the sauces that came with it wasn't spicy enough. So he asked for the chili sauce. That was too spicy for him. Then he asked for some sweet sauce to dilute his palate. He ordered some chicken dish with grounded up chicken in bits with a steamed jasmine rice with a fried egg on top. He said that the rice was bland. That the dish was just okay. I got the drunken noodles with tofu. It was okay. I asked for spice level mild which made the dish pretty sweet. Not sure why. The portion size didn't match the price of the meal. The tofu was seasoned and cut into strips. Thai food is my favorite and usually when I get it, it never disappoints. However, Kin Dee has the most disappointing Thai food. It was my work colleague's first time trying Thai food as he only eaten Chinese and figured it was similar, but no he was let down. Another thing to mention, this restaurant seems to focus on aesthetics and meets the needs of the location than it's quality and quantity of the food. The decorations and lights were glamorous. Kin Dee has ruined other Thai places for me, in the best way possible. I have always loved Thai food, especially Pad Thai, and Kin Dee has made my love of it even greater. The standard take out places just don't even compare anymore. The service is always great and ambiance is so nice, although I could do without the loud music during dinner, making it difficult to talk with my group. My favorite appetizers are the Thai Flower Dumplings and Money Bags. They are a bit pricy for the portion sizes though. The All in One is a great way to try multiple options for a more reasonable price. And everything in it tastes great. For entrees, I always have to get the Pad Thai with chicken and shrimp. It comes wrapped in an egg omelette, which feels more unique and so delicious. It has a great flavor - very well balanced and not overly sweet like other places. The Panang Curry is also great. We recently tried the Mango Sticky Rice which was good, but different than other ones I've had. And honestly, I prefer other places better. They also have excellent cocktails. We tried Flower Child recently and saw this place towards the opposite end of the shopping center. Plenty of parking spaces which is a bonus in the Heights! Hung, the manager saw us and we were seated in a few minutes. It was already half full on for a weekday lunch. The tables aren't really spaced out and we were concerned about the tight spaces. But then we drove 30 minutes and thought to take our chances. Sure enough, we can hear the conversation from the two tables next to us and accidentally bumped into one when I got out to the bathroom. Our female server took our #HRW orders: pork glass noodles and spicy pork sauce noodles in broth as 1st course and mango sticky rice and pandan cake as 2nd course. She recommended the flower dumplings (very pretty but pricey at $15 for 5 small pieces) and money bag for appetizers. First impression was the portion size, small, very small! Nice designs on the bowls/plates. I barely had broth in my noodles soup. I asked for medium spicy and boy, it was definitely spicy spicy. Perhaps they use their Thai standards. I asked for more broth to dilute the spiciness but didn't help. My husband loves spicy food and he also agreed it was very spicy. My nose was running and couldn't eat it anymore. His glass noodles tasted good but mentioned he was still hungry. Thankfully the waitress brought the sticky rice dessert with coconut ice cream to save my burning mouth. We've been wanting to give this place a try and we finally made it today! The restaurant is located in a nice neighborhood in the Heights and there's a nice outdoor parking lot at the back of the restaurant. Upon entering, I was impressed with the chic, exotic interior design and the shop is overall well decorated. Our servers were pretty attentive and helpful and the manager, Alex, was super friendly and came to chat with us a couple of times throughout the lunch. My favorite dish along all was the purple flower dumplings! It's super yummy and beautiful to watch - tastes as good as they look . The Tom Yom Soup with shrimps was huge and delicious. Pad Thai, to my surprise, was not particularly impressive but the shrimps inside are really good and the presentation was beyond good. One of us ordered fried crab omelette and I would recommend against it as it's a little too oily and not flavorful. Lastly, their cocktails are all very presentable. A friend of mine kept telling me about this place so, I was finally able to go for an early dinner. There is construction going on right on Shepherd Dr. so don't go there with a small car, you will bottom out trying to get out of the back side of the parking like right now. There is a good sized parking lot in the back of the building which was nice. When we walked in we were able to sit down right away, I don't recommend the hightop tables though if you're short like me, they are a bit uncomfortable. We were sat at a hightop but they were really nice and allowed us to move to a shorter table that opened up. My friend recommended the Thai Flower Dumplings which were different from any dumpling iv'e had so far but were really good. We also tried some chicken satay skewers which were really juicy and flavorful, usually when skewers are cooked the meat is dry. For my meal, I had the Pad See Ew with chicken, and they bring out all the spices for you to flavor your dish to the spice level that you like, and I appreciated that. This dish was great without adding any spices, I only put a bit of the red pepper flakes and that was good for me. I also tried the Crab fried rice that my friend ordered and it was really tasty and had really lump crab meat. Lastly the dessert was fire! I didn't know how I felt about the coconut ice cream but that combined with the sweet warm sticky rice and the mango was really good. It was crowded at 8 on a Sunday night but I was able to get a table quickly. I am guessing it gets very busy on peak times. I had the sampler appetizer and it was very good. Lots of variety. I also had the northern curry. This is very different from the normal Thai curry places and I loved the difference. We then ordered Thai Wings, Papaya Salad, and the Drunken Noodles (medium spice) which was pretty spicy but delicious. The presentation from the table set up to the plating of our food was all really nice! The prices are a bit steep as portions aren't as huge compared to other family style Thai restaurants.
