This is a great place, I go there for mani, pedi and wax. I had acrylics on my big toes since they were cracking a lot and wanted to keep them cute for the summer. I had never done this before and they did a fine job. I am very picky about personal services! I even brought my toddler there with me and they were accommodating. I would only recommend Kim, Chau and Tom, I was getting the gel polish with Tracy but she doesn't do as good of a job as the others, this includes polish and basic manicure. read more

I saw this nail salon on Yelp and decided to try it out. I don't regret it at all! I usually go to nail salons on Park St, but because of the Alameda fair last weekend, I had to cheat on my regular nail salon. As soon as I walked in, I was asked what I wanted to have done. I got a regular pedicure/ manicure + acrylics removal. The way they removed acrylics were different from the salons I went to. I placed my fingers inside a soak manicure bowl and inside the bowl is hot water + acetone on top. Every 5-10 minutes, the worker would use the drilling machine to remove the acrylics. I like this process better because I felt no pain at all. A male worker did my pedicure and his foot massage is one of the best I've received from anyone. My toes were painted nicely and the worker offers to put a nail strengthening polish on my real nails which I greatly appreciate. They recently got new massage chairs so that's a bonus! HOLY CRAP!!!!!!! I FINALLY FOUND A LOCAL NAIL SALON THAT I ACTUALLY LIKE!!!! I am the worst client ever! I am VERY picky! Im a hair stylist/colorist. My hands are in water all day and get discolored easily. I don't love getting my nails done, I consider it maintenance. I am very loyal to my nail salon because I need consistency. I only do pink and white acrylic (no gel), it's too porous and stains easily which doesn't work for me. I get my nails done in San Leandro once a month and have been doing this for 6 years at the same place! They are great but I was looking for something closer and found Kim's Nail Salon here on Yelp! I saw Tracy on Saturday. She removed my acrylic and gave me a new set of pink and white on top of my natural nails. She did EXACTLY what I wanted. Unsure of the girl who did my pedicure but she was very nice and did a great job! Shop is very clean, comfortable, not too chatty, bright and the staff are alll very nice. They have good spa chairs and sanitize everything!!!!! Kim greeted me with a smile and by my name. She was so accomodating when I first called and we couldn't get a time that worked, she offered to call one of her girls and call me back with a time. That was on Wednesday. Even though I couldn't make it in that day, her incredible customer service had me calling back to get in on Saturday! I adore my previous nail shop but I am now a long time client of Kim's Nails since it's across the street from my house and I like supporting local business'. If you are looking for a new nail salon.........stop looking and get into Kim's! It was my first time getting my nails done in the Bay Area and this was the worst experience of my life. I got a gel color on top of my acrylics yesterday, and the gel cracked on my nails. Kim's is great! It's my go to place for nails! I'm a little bit of a germaphobe so sometimes it bothers me that they don't do individual pedicure liners but I always see them cleaning so when I'm feeling brave I get a pedi too. I find it really mellow here. They're prompt--which I find to be a real rarity in most of the conveyor-belt-type salons--and they're so friendly, like they really acknowledge *you*. In fact, I hadn't been in in a few years, and they remembered me and who my neighbors were (who'd recommended the place to me) and that I hadn't been in in so long. I called for an appt., came on time and they saw me on time. Their nail color selection was good (for me--I have very very basic needs in the pedicure department). The nail person did a great job, and, weeks later, my toes still look great. I don't do mani's, as I bite my nails. I haven't tried a bikini or eyebrow wax, which I will next time. I also like that a bunch of older women come in, who are regulars. It makes me feel like the place has heart, rather than it's just working with thousands of Kim Kardashian-wannabes. read more

I get a gel overlay (not the same as gel polish, but I have put the polish onto of an overlay) every 1-2 weeks and it is perfectly done every single time. I love my pedicures too. They seem to be the only ones who know how to make thin, ex-ballerina toenails look normal and cute. Yes, I have paid less in Alameda, but the experience sent me running back here!! I have never been disappointed in their service, professionalism, cleanliness and quality. Bonus - Everyone here is sweet and they don't make you feel like a stranger. The staff in some Park Street places made me feel like and interrupting interloper. PS: A gel overlay is like a thinner acrylic without a tip. It is NOT gel polish like Shellac. If you are genetically cursed with thin, soft and flat natural nails that will never look like those long, beautifully curved nailbeds, this is a great solution. It take upkeep and money, but is the only thing that finally made me happy about my nails after trying tons of products, vitamins, diet, etc. And now I get compliments on them all the time! read more

I started going to Kim's on a recommendation from a client and have been totally satisfied since my first visit. It's been several months since my initial appointment, and with most places, the quality goes down. But not here! I have picture perfect nails every time I go. My pedi's last 5 weeks!!! My gel nails last 3 weeks when I'm not too rough, but I rarely chip or break them now that Kim does my nails. People often think the nails are all mine, which they are underneath acrylic & gel. The price is totally reasonable for the service, I never feel like I overspent or got cheaply done nails. Kim has many years of experience and her workmanship is excellent. It's also very clean, which is super important to me. I recommend Kim's to everyone I meet, and have been 100% satisfied since my first visit. read more

I've been going to Kim since she opened - over 13 years ago. I started with basic pedicures, but over the years I've added waxing (both under arms and eyebrows), facials (an excellent way to relax and I get compliments on skin afterwards) and just last year I added eye bros coloring - as I have gotten older, my eyebrows have really lighted up. I like to bring my own polish and she keeps the bottles for me. She remembers I like to people magazines and most time will have them waiting for me in my chair. I wish I'd asked for my manicurist's name yesterday. She was great. I called at 2pm and got an appointment for 4pm, same day. I specifically asked for someone who does great massage. She was good -- a nice firm grip and very relaxing. I'm kind of a brat about massage (hence the 4 stars instead of 5), but as far as a random visit to a salon I've never been to before, it was perfectly acceptable. The quality of the mani-pedi itself is definitely 5 stars. She was very thorough, the polish work is flawless (just regular polish, nothing fancy, although other reviews boast some artistic talents at this salon), and she did a great job cleaning up my nasty climber hands that are all calloused. I've been going to Kim's Nails for about 3 years now for my waxing and nail needs..and couldn't be happier. I'm a clean fanatic about these places after poor experiences elsewhere and am always thrilled to see Kim, Tom or Chi routinely washing their hands between clients, as well as keeping scrupulous care of their spa chairs/equipment. Kim, Tom and Chi are very hard working and work to accomodate all their clients, even some of whom I have observed as being extremely difficult. Her eyebrow waxes are very well done and her acrylics nails are very natural, even compared with silk, which I previously had. The best part of Kim's is the atmosphere; she, her husband and Chi are friendly, polite and efficient. They can always seem to sense when I'm feeling chatty or just want to 'veg' out, which is a relief. Lastly I always appreciate Kim's ability to accomodate my needs, many times when I find myself with a small amount of spare time I'll give her a call and she usually manages to fit me in...It's definately worth your time and repeat business! read more

I read the reviews for Kim's Nails from my fellow yelpers before I decided to go. I always want to make sure I'm going to a place that doesn't give people infections and rushed, rude, shoddy service. I started going a few months ago, a handful of times I've been there now for pedicures and I am pleased to receive consistent good service. I've always been greeted with a smile and since I normally come in for walk-ins on the weekends (which I should stop doing) they always accommodate me warmly, some of their regulars they know by name. Kim's Nails is a small nail salon in the same shopping center as Encinal Market. I've been going there regularly for 8 months or so, and think the world of Kim, Tom, and Chi. They are very friendly, and their client base is (from what I can tell) comprised mostly of return customers. There are three pedicure massage chairs, which are meticulously cleaned. The salon is small but light and very clean. There is also a room for waxing and facials, but I haven't had any of these services here. I got silk nails from Kim and they were gorgeous and subtle - very natural. If you're looking for super-long and curly crazy nails, this might not be the place for you. OTOH, if you want quality and friendly service in a clean environment, Kim's is great. read more

I decided to try this place because of the ratings on yelp and was glad I did. I made a last minute appointment for my daughter and me. From the time we walked in, the staff was warm and attentive. As we sat getting our pedicures, everyone who was in the salon and coming in were repeat customers who the staff treated as family. The whole ambiance was warm and upbeat. The staff really knows their customers. They take their time and care. Overall, my pedicure was wonderful. I felt relaxed and my toes looked great. My daughter who is only 4 had the time of her life. They don't re use anything, and you can see employees who are not helping anyone sterilizing the tools. My mom and I are germaphobes so this is a must for us! Even though they are foreign, you do not get the sense that they are gossiping about you in another language, as you do at some other places who have rude service. However, Kim called me back 10 minutes later to let me know she had an opening sooner because another client showed up early.
