Absolutely horrible customer service. I just called the salon asking how much does it cost to remove gel nails and was met with incredible rudeness. The lady who answered the phone stated, "I don't have time right now" and I responded that I wasn't asking if they had time right now, I was just asking how much it was. She then proceeds to say, "We don't do that" and then hung up on me. What kind of nail salon offers gel manicures and pedicures but doesn't have a service to remove it? I will never be giving my business to this salon. From this phone call, I can only imagine how chaotically the staff operates and how rushed they might be while doing your nails. Extremely disappointing and unsafe experience. I came in expecting a simple gel manicure, but the technician aggressively over-filed my nails until they became extremely thin and sensitive. One finger was even cut and bled during the process, and no proper care or apology was given. Within one day, the gel started peeling and lifting, which clearly shows poor technique and lack of care. For the price I paid, this is unacceptable. not only is the quality terrible, but it also damaged my natural nails and caused real pain. I truly regret not reading the reviews beforehand because many people mentioned the same problems. I don't enjoy leaving negative reviews, but I feel obligated to share my experience to prevent others from a similar experience. I just moved here and was looking for my new go-to nail salon. I went in for a Gel-X set with a thin French tip, done by Leann (presumably the owner). I've been getting my nails done for years, and this was one of the worst experiences I've had. Within five days, my left thumb nail became loose. The next day, the right thumb's French tip chipped, and the same day, the entire left thumb nail popped off. Also the filing and shape were uneven, plus it's clear that French tips are not her strength (See photos). I called to address the issues, but she immediately became defensive, claimed she hadn't done any Gel-X that week, and said she doesn't guarantee longevity--fair enough if the set had lasted two weeks, not barely one. For $90, I expected much better quality and service. She refused to offer any solution. On top of the poor work, she called her employee "stupid" and snapped at her, saying "What is wrong with you?", for making the simple mistake of getting the wrong shade of red. I feel that was unprofessional, mean, and was quite frankly uncomfortable to witness. I felt horrible for her employee and feel ashamed that I didn't say anything. Out of the entire negative experience, this part stuck with me the most. Despite scrolling throw numerous photos on yelp of perfectly manicured nails, with a high level of skill and quality, my experience, plus the fact that the salon was empty on a Sunday, makes me doubt their transparency and whether they were the artists responsible for the work in those pictures. I am dumbfounded at how horrible my nails came out and appalled at the behavior of the salon owner and her employee (or daughter?). I came yesterday 5/5 to get a gel mani and pedi yesterday, and my manicure was genuinely the worst manicure I have ever seen. Not only were my nails filed into different shapes and lengths (too short, crooked, rough edges, scratchy) , but the polish was uneven, bumpy and SO thick. She filed my nails so hard I was left bleeding. Nails aside - I have never encountered such an impatient, aggressive, rude, and unprofessional salon owner. I left the salon as I was the last guest and they were closing, fully knowing I would have to come back to get them fixed. I came in today, 5/6, to get my hands redone after calling because it is actually comical how horrible they look. When I came in I was met with more impatience, aggressiveness and disdain for the fact that THEY did a bad job at doing my nails at the nail salon that THEY chose to open up. They seem really unhappy to have guests at their salon that don't just agree to whatever they think is best. Ex: I KNOW my nails are scratchy and uneven because I can feel them hurting my skin when I touch anything and can see that they are filed diagonally (?). Leann does not agree and says that my nails look fine to her and I am "picky". She began by reshaping my nails which required filing them down so short, none of my nails matched and when I brought this up, the owner pushed the nail file at me and told me "do it yourself". If I wanted to do it myself I wouldn't have come to a nail salon. I also kept repeating that I was not trying to upset her but my nails are SO scratchy, uneven, and I'm BLEEDING. Her tone was dismissive and annoyed, then angry and confrontational even though I repeatedly said I was not trying to be difficult I just wanted my nails fixed OR taken off!!! I would have gladly went somewhere else if they took them off but I spent $60 on a manicure and have an event in 1 day! It is not a nice experience for me to have to come in twice while being berated and spending my money to walk out with nails that are physically scratchy and clunky. I also don't appreciate being spoken down to which seems to be the only way this lady communicates. After I did not bow down to her demands on how my nails should look, she had someone else (maybe her daughter?) do my nails, and she was equally rude and begrudgingly finished my horrible looking nails. After painting my nails the wrong color and trying to gaslight me into believing it is the correct color, they finally finished another horrible nail job. At this point I was so exhausted with how they were speaking to me that I just wanted to leave and would have paid them at this point to just never touch my hands again. All in all I got to spend 2.5 hours being disrespected and getting the worst set of nails I've ever had. Walked out the 2nd time AGAIN with uneven nails, more bloody fingers, and a now headache from this horrible experience. Don't come here, please. read more

Stopped in on Saturday morning, conveniently Leann's was right by my hotel and was able to fit me in for a pedicure. I opted for the deluxe pedicure, which included a sugar scrub, hot stones. and paraffin wax, which felt heavenly. I hadn't treated myself to a pedicure in years and was delighted that Holly provided excellent service. Leann was also in the shop and it was nice to meet her, she was very friendly and accommodating. I also have arthritis in my hands pretty bad right now and asked if I could add a hand and arm massage, which they were able to accommodate for an extra $15 for 10+ minutes. They are more expensive than other places (straight after my appointment going to another place to fix them) to find out the price difference. 2. The owner and staff were very impatient when you point out issues. You are paying for a service and should reflect on their work. I left the appointment with crappy nails. Gel polish was not painting evenly. They did not remove my previous polish properly and just keep filing my real nails so thin to the point it burns. Since living in Alameda I've been to a few places, but I'll highly recommend Leann! I've been coming here for a few months and absolutely love Leann and her team! Leann is the only one I will trust to get my ingrown toe nail out properly. It's so hard to find someone to remove them and she's an absolute pro! The staff here were so sweet and friendly which is why I don't want to give 1 or 2 stars. But I'm disappointed in my service. I came here yesterday to get a pedicure with gel polish. For some reason the technician was in a rush to finish my feet. I wasn't in a rush at all. I paid almost $70 for a pedicure, so I was willing to wait if that meant she was going to do a good job. There was no other customers after me, so not sure why she was rushing (I notice this in sooo many nail salons- this urgent rush to finish the job.. well, that's when the quality starts going down. ) I know a lot about gel polish and the curing process- my technician kept taking the UV light off my foot to switch it to the other foot, BUT i can see that the UV light still had 35 seconds left. Everytime. I knew my toes werent going to be cured properly because it wasn't under the light long enough. By the time I got home my entire pinky toenail polish peeled off. My big toenails were also very clumpy. I won't be back here :( read more

Initially over the phone the owner (old lady) told me the price for manicure and acrylic nails would cost $60 however, in the nail shop she said no, manicure would be extra. Despite of that the owner told me she has 32 years of experience so I gave her the benefit of the doubt....Tuens out the acrylics she put on turned out just awful. The nails are thick, uneven, and just pure ugly. I showed her how uneven they looked she went on rolling her eyes. She said I was too picky. The next day I called her to tell her I want a refund, I want them off because the acrylic is digging into my skin and my cuticle are sore. In return she said sorry I can't help you. After a long walk on the beach, I wandered in to Leann's Nails and received an EXCELLENT mani-pedi. Leann, Tammy, and Holly greeted me gently (no pressure) and took great care of me and my short, imperfect nails. The "deluxe" mani-pedi includes scrub, massage, hot stone massage, and paraffin wax. The massage chair provides constant stress relief. You can choose from dozens of colors in regular polish or gel. I highly recommend Leann's Nails. What I liked: Clean, good energy: the staff seemed very pleasant, friendly, calm and at ease. What I didn't like: They told me I had a lot of calluses and should get the deluxe pedicure so I acquiesced. They were not very aggressive with the calluses (seemed more like a basic scrub I get with most pedicures) and when I asked to maybe go over some spots again they told me they were corns. I'm a nurse practitioner and know the difference between corns and calluses. For $50 I wanted more attention to detail. They didn't file my nails, they were not shaped, just clipped, the polish work was not neat. They seemed frustrated when I brought these issues up, but $50 is extremely expensive for what ended up being a standard pedicure. Quality not commensurate with the price. read more

Got gel nails here on Sunday, and they chipped by Monday. When I voiced my concern, the owner told me it "happens sometimes" and that I just need to be more careful, claiming she's been doing this for 30 years and "knows what she's talking about." I never had that experience before especially I don't really do any hard labor work, in the fields or something. I would be fine if they took the time to redo it and not just being so careless and dismissive about it. Owner and the technician are nice. Very sweet, but the quality of work is just not good. I had to come back for a touch-up, and the technician rushed through it, not properly removing the gel and leaving visible bumps. For $70, I expect much better quality and service. What a nice nail salon that has been around for 3+ decades! I popped in as I was in the neighborhood, and Leann herself was there to help me. I went with the regular manicure and pedicure which came with a nice little massage, cuticle cuts and paint. Nothing fancy, but they do have that option should you decide to partake and spend a bit more money. It was about $75 I for a gel mani and regular pedi. (If memory serves correct). Although a bit pricier than my regular spot, seemingly that is inline for Alameda. The space has about 4-5 pedi chairs, so I recommend thinking ahead on those busy weekend days. They have a whole array of non-toxic polish (I couldn't quite understand if all polish was non-toxic or just some of them). Overall, they played relaxing music, they did a solid job on the nails and they were friendly. While not the best service I've had, and the paint job didn't last as long as it should have, it was a solid spot if convenient. read more

Leanne was able to do a gel manicure with Apre Gel X last minute. I called about an hour before stopping by. Got a nice hand massage with collagen rubbed in that made my hands soft. They typically take card but asked for cash that day as the internet was down. There's an ATM next door but luckily I had cash. On Webster there's paid street parking on non paid in the neighborhoods nearby. They recently put in new spa chairs so would come back to try those out. read more

Terrible. I want to love this place, the lady is kind of sweet but she is a scammer and terrible at her job. I mean awful. Maybe at one point she did quality work but it has gone downhill. I got acrylics and she said it's $10 extra for a manicure to clean up my cuticles. Isn't this supposed to be included?? $70 for basic acrylics no design or anything and you want $10 MORE, in ALAMEDA?? Wild. In SF I wouldn't mind but not in the east bay. I said yes, but look at my pictures to see how awful she did. She let a huge blob of something on the nails, probably glue or polish? I had to go home and clean everything up myself. She did a pedicure also and it was so splotchy. She did help remove some white lines on my nails with lime juice, which I appreciated. She should've shaken the bottle after each toe but she didn't, so it was clumpy and dried funky because of it. Really sloppy work. None of the instruments are sterilized. They are loose in a plastic container that said "disinfected" on it. It should be in a bag from an autoclave with the indicator colors changed. She kept joking about how she thought I had a date that night and she would charge me $10 for it to make me look good. So inappropriate and weird. Then said about 10+ times how cute my friend and I were. Sorry, I'm tipping you on skills (that you have clearly lost), not compliments. She def judged me by how I looked and kept wanting to add stuff on and I fell for it cuz I never go to get my nails done. At the beginning my auntie asked for a design , the lady was very rude on telling her she doesn't do those designs, and if she does it it would cost her 90 dollars. I went here with my friend for a pedicure. The ladies seem nice. They made a quick introduction about pedicure and what options we could get. I got gel and my friend did regular. Mines didn't turn out that great with the paint as you could see in the pictures. It's quite sloppy, she didn't clean it well before moving on to the new client. I missed her name. They charge extra for buffing out your calluses, which I thought should be included. All other nail salons I've been to included it with gel. Also, my friend was rushed out after her regular pedi. Their website barely functions but it *will* sell you a gift card (not say, book an appointment, which would be helpful). Nearly 7% fee for a gift card from their online store, which I'm assuming is them passing their processing fees to their customers plus making a little extra on top. Called and spoke to them and was told there was no fee, that it was a paypal fee, that they don't charge the fee -- just a bunch of lies, based on how the fee seems to be charged. Edit note: the "tech saavy" needed is setting a price. That seems like something they can already do. Well, easy enough, let me recommend any other place in the Bay Area? Called in for an appointment & arrived just on time. Parking Note: parking can be hard to find so if you do make an appointment, leave time for parking! You may have a to walk a few blocks but the walk isn't bad with so many cute mom and pop stores around I heard about Leann's Nail Salon after watching the HBO docuseries Not So Pretty about beauty products having harsh chemicals in them that cause cancer. In turn, did research to find the several non-toxic nail salons in East Bay & was really pleased with the services at Leann's. These women are very detailed but efficient, they encourage appointments but also accept walk ins. Price is comparable to other toxic salons & you can tell they work hard to keep this place clean. You can let them know if you prefer square or round nails. Additionally, the gel mani-pedi massages are phenomenal + the massage pedicure chair is an added bonus. It took about 1-1.25 hours to finish my mani/pedi. I'm glad I branched out to another nail salon by my place. I'd recommend this place to everyone looking for less toxic nails.
