You may have a to walk a few blocks but the walk isn't bad with so many cute mom and pop stores around I heard about Leann's Nail Salon after watching the HBO docuseries Not So Pretty about beauty products having harsh chemicals in them that cause cancer. In turn, did research to find the several non-toxic nail salons in East Bay & was really pleased with the services at Leann's. These women are very detailed but efficient, they encourage appointments but also accept walk ins. Price is comparable to other toxic salons & you can tell they work hard to keep this place clean. You can let them know if you prefer square or round nails. Additionally, the gel mani-pedi massages are phenomenal + the massage pedicure chair is an added bonus. It took about 1-1.25 hours to finish my mani/pedi. I'm glad I branched out to another nail salon by my place. I'd recommend this place to everyone looking for less toxic nails. Called in to see if they took walk ins- and they do. Went in on a Monday afternoon and there was no one there except my friend and I, which was wonderful! The place was clean and smelled fresh. There were newspapers on the wall that showcased all of their achievements in being a toxic-free nail salon, which put my mind at ease. They were super friendly and we got top notch service and felt like rockstars with the place all to ourselves. The pedi was divine. We both got the deluxe pedi which came with a scrub, regular hand massage, hot stone massage and Praffin wax foot softener. There were SO many gel colors to choose from! I've been coming to this nail shop in Alameda for a while because, despite the outdated interior, the customer service was usually on point. Unfortunately, today was a very different experience. The energy felt completely off -- the person doing my nails (I believe the owner) was being overly nice in a way that felt inauthentic. I asked ahead of time how much my pedicure with French tip gel would cost, and she clearly told me $70. I even noted it to send to someone who was covering it for me. But when it came time to pay, the price jumped to $80. When I gently brought it up, her tone shifted and she insisted she never said $70, which felt dismissive and frustrating. On top of that, I paid for the signature pedicure specifically because it included collagen socks -- which is the main difference from the deluxe. When I asked about them at the end, she casually told me they "don't do that anymore." If that's the case, the service should be renamed or discounted. This experience just didn't feel honest or in alignment anymore. I didn't argue -- I paid and left -- but I won't be coming back. I prefer businesses that value good energy, clear communication, and respect for loyal customers. I know I deserve better -- and if you're someone who values transparency and a good vibe, you probably do too. read more

I appreciate that they use tub liners for pedicures, and they always use tools from a box that says "disinfected" so it appears they have good hygiene practices. This was the worst experience I've ever had at a nail shop in my life. I let it slide, but it started out extremely unsanitary. The nail tech was working on a man's feet. scrubbing and everything. came over and started touching me with those same gloves that she's working on him with all his excess on her gloves. She's fixing up my area with said gloves. By the time I noticed it, it was too late. I just hoped she didn't start working on me with those gloves. In the process of receiving my Service, they cut me and had me dip my finger in an entire bottle of liquid that they then use on other customers. I don't know how many other customers have done the same or get infections after this place but they are highly unsanitary. Another issue I had was that they kept messing up my nails. I requested an acrylic service. A few of my nails looked like they were flying away. They were going upwards in the air. I kindly requested. She fix it because I can't stand Nails that looks like that. The nail tech is arguing me telling me that that's my nail when I obviously know that's not my nail my nails have never looked like that. None of my other nails look like that. She made a mistake and she did not want to own up to it. She started yelling at me saying that my nails are fine and that she "already told me there's nothing wrong with my nails" when I see clearly, my nail is standing up, she started screaming. "Oh my gosh" and saying a lot other things as she roughly fixed my nail, tore it off and burned me. She damaged my actual nail. She soaked my nail for literally two seconds then started ripping it off when it wasn't anywhere near ready to be ripped off. I have never been one to really speak up with the nail shop. I'm the type to just deal with it. This is my first time ever standing up for myself in a nail shop and I hope everyone who is like me does the same. I can deal with a lot of things I can't do deal with my nails looking like they're going to run away from my hands especially when you are going to charge me $145. I would not recommend this place if it was the last nail shop on earth. I really understand those people when they say "I'd give it zero stars if I could." If I could rate even lower than zero, I would. I used to think those people were so dramatic. I apologize to those people. I get you now lol. read more

This review is about my recent pedicure service that left me disappointed that I've spent $62 + $10 tip for a shitty experience. It's honestly karma for being desperate enough to cheat on my nail tech and deciding to give this place another chance... but it was a lesson learned. I must admit that the owner and employee were nice, but toe nail shape was not up to my standards. I'm really pissed that my toe nails were not filed straight. Also, the nail tech did not make an effort fo clean the residue gel top coat off my skin and i has to scrub it off at home. Additionally, it was an additional $7 to get my foot scrubbed which didn't make any sense because a basic pedicure service would've included that. It's been over 24 hours and now my heels feel extremely dry. While digging under my toe bed, she was putting a lot of pressure with the tool and caused pain. Lastly, I called the salon beforehand to confirm form of payment and the owner said they accepts card. When I was ready to pay, the employee asked if I had cash instead and made up some bull sh*t excuse as in why they can't accept card at the time. She made me walk over to Embarc (the dispensary next door) to use their ATM. Honestly, the only logical reason I can think of why they didn't want to accept card was to avoid the processing fee. This experience was highly inconvenient and shows poor business practice when your website and yelp page shows the form of accepted payment. If you're looking for a salon with good pedicure service, please head over to Classy Nails on Park street. Sure, the wait time could be long when you walk-in... but to avoid this, please call in ahead. No one should be paying $60+ for a subpar pedicure. read more

I was not impressed with my dip powder manicure. This was my second time doing dip powder and I wasn't sure since it was a different salon they had a different order of doing things so I didn't mention it until the end. I got the polish soaked off and they immediately started working on my nails. I never got my cuticles cleaned. In essence they just worked on my nails but I never got a manicure. So strange! My nails came out uneven and it was blotchy. The cuticles looked just as bad as before I came in but now it has glue/gel on it. I mentioned the patchy color at the end and she fixed one thumb for me. I feel bad writing this because Leann was so sweet. We had great conversation, but the quality of the work was not met for the price I paid. I will give this place three stars. To start, I called and they said they needed cash however I saw two people pay with credit card while I was waiting in the pedicure chair. The nail techs were pretty busy and were more focused on quantity versus quality for their business. I liked that they accommodated and allow kids to get their nails done. I went in with my 4 year old daughter and paid for the kids set for her to keep her busy. It was mostly just nail cutting and painting for my daughter. I didn't like how fast/rushed the nail techs went through on my nails for both the mani and pedi. They didn't even give me a full manicure and still charged me the $35. All they did was soak my nails in lemon soap water and then filed it to the shape I wanted after removing my prior nail polish. The nail tech also tried to pursued me to getting a different nail shape than one I already requested and I had to fight for what I wanted. Expenses wise: Then there were added expenses for fixing my two chipped nails and for removing prior nail polish. But I felt that the charge to remove the prior dipped nails was a bit pricy. I felt like the charge for the services wasn't worth it because they didn't really take their time cleaning the nail beds and cuticles with my manicure and pedicure. Overall, I would only return if they took their time with cleaning and giving me a proper manicure and pedicure even if it was the basic pedicure. The cleaning process was only 8 minutes for my pedicure. I was overall disappointed in this place. I paid a total of $130.00 for services that's including tip. read more

I don't recommend this nail salon. Inconsistent and absolutely poor quality. They don't listen to what you want. They just do what they have in mind and keep telling you at the end, at the and when the end comes, it's too late since it will not be what you asked for. The hygiene is lacking as well. I had a really bad experience. They have zero customer service and I'll never go back. They do a very low standards job. Nice lady and enjoyed conversations with her, however I opted for gelX and it was the worst experience of my life - glue all over my cuticles and fingers, like, literally oozing out. I kept telling her it was too much glue and she said she wasn't done. In the end, I had so much glue on my nail beds I was in pain and it was pulling my skin. She also had me bleeding! I had to fly to Nyc the next day for work and I went straight to a nail salon and begged them for help. I had to take these off and start over. The lady spent an hour just removing glue from my cuticles. It was the most expensive and painful mistake. She might be good at gel or acrylics, I don't know; hr gelX was a true nightmare. This is the worst nail experience ever. 1. Pedicure: I came straight from work wearing sneakers. And asked if I could have disposable flip flops. They claimed that there is a law that banned disposable flip flops in all CA. NOT TRUE AT ALL. I googled it and have gotten flip flops elsewhere. They said they will make sure it is dry before I left. They used a little fan for very little time and told me it was dry. They proceeded to put plastic wrap over my toes before I put my sneakers back on. The photo shows what my toes looked like when I got home. I only walked a few steps to and from my car. This looks worse than when I do it myself. 2. Gel manicure: I picked out a gel nail color for my manicure and the color she put on was a diff color. I pointed it out and she said it was the number I chose. In front of the nail tech, it was so obvious they were different colors. I asked if I could get a color that was closer to the swatch I chose. Her tone was not kind at all. 3. FYI they are cash only. This was my fault for not knowing. Thank goodness there was a kind stranger that had enough cash to pay me and I could pay her via venmo. I visited Leanns nail shop on March 16, 2023 for a deluxe pedicure with gel nail polish. It wasn't until the next day. Did I look closer at my feet and noticed pockets of uncured gel polish on multiple of my toes. Immediately after work, I went to the shop and asked that the polish be removed. Leanne asked me to come back three hours later. Leann clearly does not know the harm that uncured chemicals can do to the skin, and how damaging it could be to the natural nail. I came back one hour later asking her to please fix my issue or refund my money so I could go somewhere else to have it removed. Leanne was dismissive and told me to come back later. At that point I no longer trusted her with my health and requesting my money back and she said she couldn't do that. I've reported Leanne and her shop to the state of California for the lack of knowledge when it comes to uncured chemicals and her customers health. Requested a regular pedicure and gel extension manicure. Somehow got convinced that acrylics would be better because I can get them filled, while gel x is a one time deal. They proceed to start giving me a gel pedicure (costs $15 extra) after I stated twice I wanted a regular one. It was very clear they were doing whatever they could to get me out of there asap. The acrylics came out sloppy and were rushed. I asked for them to be cut shorter and she laughed and said she "wasn't done". They came out entirely too long and crooked. I am very disappointed. I was looking for a place nearby to get my nails done last-minute for my birthday. I was so excited to see that there were so many good reviews and calling to make an appointment was easy. I asked for gel French tips manicure and a regular pedicure. There were 3 technicians and they were working on a young couple. The complimentary massage chair was great while I was waiting for one of the nail technicians to finish with their clients. However, I spent a little over two hours at this place since I arrived for my appointment on time. I had to wait a long time before they started on me and also in between my manicure and pedicure. 4.5/5 stars-- The pedicure was great, with the hot stone massage and wax mask, my feet were left soft and exfoliated. I have no complaints. The only thing is that the regular polish lasted two days before it started coming off. 1/5 -- The manicure was a really bad experience. I could not believe the technician was shaping all my nails so inconsistent with different shapes and length. They were rushing into starting on the gel nail polish. It was uncomfortable I had to ask her a couple of times to reshape my nails until I gave up. After the young couple left, Leann herself took over the other technician that was shaping my nails and ended up doing the rest of my manicure. I was relieved at the beginning, but so disappointed about the results. All the white tips were different and all my nails were different too. I felt so bad because Leann was making a lot of conversation and she was nice. I still valued all their time and work so I tipped her 20%. However, I will not be coming back here because I am shocked at how bad the gel French tips manicure was. Photos were taken a few days after because I didn't get a chance to do so before. I don't usually get my nails done. Personally I would rather get a massage/facial over mani/pedi so there's bias in my review. Got gel mani and regular polish for pedi. Service is good the owner is very friendly. The younger staff who did my mani is less experienced it seems, one of my fingers started bleeding, she took care of it quickly but didn't acknowledge cutting too deep into my cuticles...? My husband said I do it better myself. It lasted an adequate amount of time. I'd come back if I'm feeling getting mani/pedi again given the relaxing environment and friendly staff. Decided to go to another place for a more "serious" mani as I'm getting my hands photographed, wanted more attention to detail and closer to perfection than I'd able to myself.
