Popped in last minute with a friend taking me to getting our nails done. The shop is small but very productive. I only got a manicure and absolutely loved my esthetician's manner, flexibility and attention to detail. It had been nearly a year since I got my nails done in a shop so I was out of practice completely. Beautiful finished product has me feeling like a million bucks! Cannot wait to see what we come up with next. Found my new local nail shop and you can pay in cash, card or venmo. I do strongly suggest still bringing your tip in cash at least! What a delight to have a pedicure spa experience at this nail salon. It was a gift from a friend when I visited from out-of-town. I was impressed with the professional service and the results. The foot treatment for the skin and especially the heel was effective in making it soft and smooth. I purchased "epoch" sole solution foot treatment that Kim used. My go to Alameda Nail Shop. Owner and staff are polite and friendly. For Manicure I love Michelle! The attention to detail is on point! Good color selections for regular, dip or gel. Make an appt for sure...It's a small busy shop (because they do a good job)! If you are busy and need to be in and out and get on with business this is the place. I walked into Kim's Nails for a gel pedicure without an appointment and was seated immediately. It's been nearly a year since my last pedicure, I had hastily clipped my nails, and my feet were in need of some care. As mentioned by others, I was very impressed with the attention to detail. My cuticles were carefully cleaned up, some ingrown parts of a nail were noticed and taken care of and the scrub/massage removed some tough skin. I was incredibly content at that point and the polish wasn't even on yet! The woman doing my pedicure checked in with me throughout the process to make sure the temperature of the water and warm towel were OK and the polish color was still what I wanted. Overall, I was very pleased with the service and price and will absolutely be back again. read more

It was a great experience. My nails were looking outgrown and rough. A couple things I would like to note - Called same day and was still able to get an appointment. - very nice and gentle with your hands - at first I wasn't pleased with how the color turned out on my nail versus the display and she was very quick to aid me in this in the end I left very happy. I scheduled a regular mani pedi and got there 10-15mins earlier than expected. There was no problem with that at all and they assisted me right away. I was really hoping they would give me the key chain full of gel polishes, that also have a matching regular polish color, but they didn't? I haven't had a regular OPI mani pedi in years. So I thought that was a little outdated.They also made me walk bare foot to the table for my manicure which i thought was weird and unsanitary. Overall I'm not complaining about the job they did, because I was pretty satisfied. I was really just looking for a clean up. I appreciated the women that did my nails and asking if I liked the color before proceeding. read more

I tried to do a walk in at 930am for a pedicure and though all the chairs were empty I was told it was for appointments only. I don't have much free time as a parent and I was really hoping to just get something nice done in the little time I could find for myself but I can't rely on any salons to be there in the limited time I have available. I'll just keep doing my nails at home and keep the $20 tip for myself. I deserve coffee and a bagel too. read more

Decided to check out somewhere different for my last pedi in CA as I am moving to FL., Kim welcomed me and quickly asked what I wanted and got me situated right away. Asked if I like the water warm or hot which I appreciated that because give it to me hot! The salon is very nice w/ good parking and her staff is so friendly. I would have liked a longer massage it was by far the shortest one I've ever received. Other than that would highly recommend and if I was staying I'd surely go back! Thank you Kim and Staff! I AM ABSOLUTELY IN LOVE WITH THIS PLACE! Truly they do such an incredible job with my powder dip nails every single time and it always lasts A FULL MONTH! Yes that's right, a month!! And I'm a teacher so I use my hands a lot! I literally even moved apartments and was packing/moving all the boxes and they still stayed in tact! I live in NY usually & I have yet to find a place that is as good as Kim's Nails. The price is SO affordable for the result! In NY all the places are like $70+ and it usually only lasts two weeks max. I wish Kim's nails could teleport to NY with me haha! I 10000% recommend them! read more

I just moved to Alameda and was looking for a nail salon to commit to, and I couldn't have chosen better! My friend and I scheduled manipedis side by side and had a wonderful time. Everyone there was courteous, professional, and pleasant. The entire process was pampering and we were well tended to. The staff at Kim's were so nice to chat with and very accommodating. I chose a color for my nails that was not quite as dark as I thought it would be, and after the second coat I shyly asked if it would get darker. The woman doing my nails and the owner both immediately searched for a slightly darker color and were more than willing to help me achieve the color I originally wanted. The reason I specifically wanted to write this review is because a day after our manipedis, I broke a nail! The break was really deep and very painful, and also bled a little. These were my natural nails that I had put in a lot of effort to growing long- I was so heartbroken. I went in the next day to ask if they could fix it and they DID! The owner was so gentle and meticulous. She buffed off as much gel as she could, sealed the break with some powder and liquid, and then re-gelled the nail. It didn't hurt or sting at all, and looked brand new! It's been five days since and it still looks perfect. I've been able to use my nails almost exactly the same with no problems. Kims nails is going to be my regular nail shop from now on. My best friend and I are returning for manipedis a few days before her wedding. I'm so grateful to have found a wonderful nail shop on my first try! read more

Kim's nails was great! We called in the morning to make an appointment and were immediately seated when we arrived. The staff is friendly and everyone is wearing masks. They have partitions between stations. They offer a variety of nail services and are very reasonably priced. We were all happy with our nails and a few days later all of our nails are still in great condition! read more

I have been going to Kim's Nails for about a year now. My dip nails and gel toes still looks good after a month but I have to go in because of the growth. The shape and paint job is always on point and every technician does a great job. I also like how your toes and nails get worked on at the same time so you are out in an hour, which is great if time is an issue for you. 2 stars for Kim the owner who is nice and friendly plus the location is convenient next to Encinal Market, Feel Good Bakery, Bluefin Sushi & Thai, and a coffee shop. This salon is chaotic though especially on the weekends! If you want a relaxing and calming time to get pampered at the end of the week you won't get it at this place. Everything seems so rushed and the service is not consistent. They can be great one time then awful the next because they're in a hurry & probably overbooked! One of the ladies working there, I think her name is Bella is very rude & unpleasant. Anybody who has encountered her can attest to that. Or you can find out for yourself. I hate to leave a negative review overall because this seems to be a very neighborly establishment. But there are so many more better nail salons in the island who can provide you with quality work & customer service that you deserve. read more

Pros: good pricing: $45 for a mani/pedi. Nice environment and people. Massage chair. Great pedi massage. Cons: Kim, who did my mani, was distracted and booking appointments and doing other things while doing my mani. Did not really trim my cuticles and gave a light massage. Tom, who did my pedi, gave a great massage but also did not trim my toe cuticles much and did not remove some of the polish on my cuticles and skin (dark turquoise). Even missed polishing half of one of my little toes. I don't think he could see well enough to notice those details. They were definitely on half hour appointment schedules, trying to get me out of the massage chair within 30 minutes for another customer. Too rushed! It was not until I got home later and I put on my reading glasses that I noticed these basic items that were over looked, or because they were so rushed did not do that great of a job. read more

Updated review 6/14 I called in for a manicure with a design -regular no gel. It is the 2nd same day appointment I had with a woman named (Bella I think ) and both times she is extremely terse and unfriendly . I can't explain it to you other than that her demeanor makes me not want to go back to Kim's. I showed her a design I wanted on one finger that was WAY less complicated than the nails done for other women during my countless visits . She literally rolled her eyes , breathed annoyingly and said "no I can't do that " . My issue is not that she couldn't do it or wouldn't do it. It's that's shes rude . Unfortunately , Kim's just lost a regular customer not to mention all my friends and the girls in my family . Be POLITE ------ I've been a sporadic walk-in visitor of Kim's for the past 6 years . They don't really do walk-ins especially because of the pandemic but usually they will make a same day appointment . I have been to almost every nail salon in alameda and the contenders are ; Kim's , Vicky's and Nail Bar . Kim's because it's quiet and the my manicures always last over 2 weeks and it's never crowded . It feels very calm inside and the employees are well-mannered . I put it at number 1 because I consistently go back. Vicky's for the same reasons but I typically only go to the man who works there for a manicure . He's very detailed and patient. Nail Bar is great because it's what you want out of a high end salon. The service is personalized . The shop is clean , stylish and peaceful . They serve you a strong drink if you ask for it . This is where I like to go with my bestie for girl talk . The prices are comparable to other salons but it's strictly by appointment only. read more

Got my nails done here about two weeks ago, and decided to give the review for my hands only because Michelle did an amazing job. I don't get my nails done often anymore post covid but decided to treat myself before my birthday. Got my nails done with Gems and two weeks later after a trip to Mexico and jumping into the ocean, all of my nail gems are on, my nails are all in tact and the job was done superbly. 10/10 would recommend just for the simple fact that they endured my trip. will definitely go back again. read more

Ok, I think I might have bruised my toe in Germany after walking in heels too much. So I'm upgrading to 3 stars because the pedi did seem rough and rushed and no plastic liner. I don't think I'll be back because of the lack of a liner and it wasn't a toe inflection. But wow, staying on for a month? That's pretty good. read more

This post is long due (as a matter of fact, I started it maybe a year ago and forgot about it but I decided it would be a disservice to ladies trying to find a good waxing place that is not very expensive) Very nice, fast and good results! I don't get my nails done but get my legs waxed there and the owner, Kim, is very quick and does a good job. The price is/ was right (I haven't been there in a loooong time due to my own personal affairs) , nothing like the European Wax Center (no luxury, no high prices just decency all over). And just UNLIKE The European Wax Centers, nobody will ask you what medicine you're on, trying to pretend they understand something they don't and you'll not get reminder phone calls telling you "it's been so long since your last appt....Bonus: the owner, Kim is very friendly and pleasant . Just make sure you have either cash or a checkbook to pay (again, I haven't been there in a while and things might have changed). I will go back (when I get over the shame of looking like a wolf from not being waxed in a while ) read more

They are super nice here! I happened to be in Alameda and needed to kill an hour and a half and found Kim's Nails! I called and they were able to accommodate on a busy Sunday morning. People just kept coming in! The owner knew everyone's name. Very impressive. I got a pedicure and it was last a good month. Cash and check only. Plenty of parking available out front. Such a great place!! My grandma and I here came to get a mani pedi and they were so nice and welcoming. I got a gel manicure and a regular pedicure which turned out lovely. Michelle, the woman who did my manicure was super quick and efficient, and did nails standing while I was getting my pedicure done. The prices are very reasonable. My grandma has been going here for many years and loves it so when I visited her and needed to get my nails done, I knew this was the place! I got an acrylic gel full set done three weeks ago and not a single one has lifted, chipped, had a gem fall out, or broke in any way!!! Came here because a friend had an appointment for a mani-pedi already. I was available, so called ahead and Kim happily fit me in. I was uncharacteristically early, so planned to just peruse nail colors and wait for my appointment time, but Kim identified me immediately (she'd never met me!) and asked me to go ahead and sit down--that they'd seat my friend when she arrived. My nails are as short as I'd specified, the color is fantastic, they used two UV lights so no moving the machine back and forth. They said they'd match the toenails; it's not a match, but a very close color. I had a gel mani and my friend opted for the powder nail thing (lasts longer and costs $5 more, apparently). Minuses: It wasn't clear that the utensils were sterilized and it didn't seem like the pumice-like sponge was new. Also, the sanding tips they used on my friend didn't look new. Not a lot of OPI color choices. My friend didn't get seated right next to me. (the chair in between was empty) Pluses: My toenails and fingernails look great! Arm & leg massages were great. The price is very reasonable. Off-street parking easily available. No waiting. While waiting for my friend's nails to be finished, we were both led to seats and had little toenail heaters/dryers. Warm feet & dry toenail polish? Win-win! Quick service--no waiting for the pedicure after the manicure: all done at the same time! Very friendly. Next time: I'll get the names of my two manicurists I'll ask to be seated next to my friend (we always chat the whole time) I'll bring my own pumice sponge, buffer block, and toe separators I'll ask about reused nail files, etc., and sterilization. I'll bring cash (cash or checks ONLY!--thank goodness my friend had enough cash for both of us) I'll make an appointment (they do take walk-ins, but it's so nice not to wait at all!) read more

It's not clear how much each service is and I didn't see a pricing list in store. There's a 10% discount for first-time visitors but somehow I still paid the same as another customer who got a gel mani/pedi when I only did a gel mani. I didn't bother questioning the beauty technician because she did a really good job and gave me the 10% discount. Would go back again (and just pay more attention to the pricing)!

Multiple staff kept talking out of it and that their builder gel lasts a long time, uncomfortable but hopeful I said okay since Builder Gel is better for your nails in the long run. I got one color, builder gel on natural nails, and just a simple shape. Nothing too complicated I haven't gotten elsewhere before. I went home and thought it was fine for the money, $45 for builder gel + $8 tip. Probably wasn't going to return but also wasn't going to write a review. However, after 1 day my pointer finger nail chipped and started lifting and my middle finger also started lifting. I called and they said to come in and they would fix it. I went in and sat for 30 minutes until someone saw me -- had 3 different people come look my nails in the meantime but never start prep process, etc. After 30 minutes I was taken to a different station and she took maybe 15 minutes to "fix" the issue. Upon leaving and having a time to look better at my nails I still left unsatisfied. I chose not to go back a third time as I don't feel confident they will be able to actually do my nails well. I gave 2 stars as they did offer and attempt to fix my nails and didn't charge me for the "fix." I would be cautious going here as it seems your experience may vary...

She then proceeds to say, "We don't do that" and then hung up on me. What kind of nail salon offers gel manicures and pedicures but doesn't have a service to remove it? I will never be giving my business to this salon. From this phone call, I can only imagine how chaotically the staff operates and how rushed they might be while doing your nails. They just lost a local customer who would've come here regularly.

I stumbled upon Vena's late at night scrolling through Yelp and couldn't be happier! The establishment is clean, the service was amazing, and I'd definitely come back again. I got a basic gel pedicure which was $50. I had grown out gel polish from about 3 months ago that they carefully removed. They even noted that the color I liked was sheer and recommended mixing 2 shades to make the color pop more. Other places would not provide their suggestion. The lady doing my pedicure was careful and kind. It took about 1 hour in total after finishing the gel and doing a massage/lotion with hot stone. I did not expect to be so pampered! I do highly recommend an appointment because they are BUSY! I had my pedicure on a Sunday and while they do take walk-ins, the salon was quite packed with existing appointments. They were honest with the long wait time with folks walking in which I appreciated as other places make you sit without real notice of when they can receive you. I can't wait to come back again and maybe try a manicure next time.

Luckily, Kathy was super understanding and friendly, she took her time with the service and checked in frequently during the pedicure. Initially, I was undecided on nail color choices, and Kathy brought out multiple options and helped me choose a nice shade. The nail salon is clean, comfortable, well-maintained and located in a convenient area. I was very happy with the overall service and the customer service was excellent. I'd definitely consider returning in the future!

The reason for 3 stars is solely dependent on the amount of time, and how much the services costed, a minor service issue as well, not terrible though. This is my first time here, i was taking a stroll on park and saw this place and peaked in and saw how luxurious and clean it looked, very big open space, lots of massage chairs, so i decided to pop and see for myself. So i stroll in around 4:30pm, for a new set and gel pedi. Typically both services take me at most 2 hours. I get sat down to remove my current acrylic set, this probably took at least 30-45 minutes. From the filing, to the soaking, removal, soaking again, and removal again. This is the longest I've ever experienced a removal. Then comes the cutting and shaping of my natural nails to prep for my new set. Finally i get moved to a massage chair to start my pedicure. I opted for the deluxe so this comes with a variety of things, from what i can remember, at least 2 masks, scrub, 10 minute massage, and hot rocks after. The total for this was $70, which is way more than what i would've normally paid at different locations, but I'm not knocking it, just isn't in my range but can be for someone else. Quality isn't great, but isn't bad. This is where my service issue/frustration comes in. My pedicure took almost 45 mins, and finally someone comes to start my set, or so i thought. She kept moving around, from one person to another, helping another client in between, but there are 3 other workers. I then get moved to a table, and I'm waiting again for about 10 minutes. She sits back down with me, and i thought okay great we're starting forreal now. Nope, we weren't. There was another client waiting, and she stops what she's doing with me, the gentlemen comes over and she moves to help the other client and he's now my nail tech. It is now 6:38pm and we're finally starting my set. Precise time because i was texting my bf to let him know bc this process was just taking so long. And i kid you not, the process from putting on the gel x nails, to shaping, filing, etc etc, i didn't walk out of there until 8:12pm. I did a very basic paint with cat eye polish. Typically 2 layers of paint, but he painted at least 5 layers before starting the cat eye magnetic process... In total i paid $168, and tipped $20. The amount of time spent there and the cost of it all, and being moved around from one person to another, ultimately costed the 2 stars. But again, this is just my experience i am sharing, and not to deter your decision to visit, because the quality of work is there.

First of all, the service is ALWAYS friendly and they do a great job of acknowledging business that walks in and ensuring waiting clients are comfortable; offering water or tea upon entering and providing a spacious, clean and comfortable waiting area. Also, this salon has to be the CLEANEST and most organized nail salon on the island. With recent decor upgrades, it's an even more beautiful and relaxing space. I can appreciate a staff who pays attention to details other than the work they do on nails. Especially with nail service prices climbin in general, it's nice that the salon puts a huge effort for the space to feel luxe and comfortable. Anyway, I came in with bare nails that needed help after 2 months of Gel X sets and fills. I opted for hard gel over my natural (itty bitty) nails to add strength and durability while I grow my natural nails out. For anyone curious, it's very similar to acrylic over natural nails or nail tips but the material is gel based (I think polygel?) The nail tech was kind, patient and thorough. After about an hour of work, my nails looked revived and despite the short length of my natural nails, they still looked bomb and cute. A little sparkly top coat on top of the milky pink hard gel and my manicure was done. I can't wait for my fill appointment when my nails are a bit longer and can start to be shaped out to the medium-short almond length I'm aiming for.

I broke one nail the night before and asked for a gel x one to replace the broken nail. My hope was to maintain the length that I worked hard to grow. The technician chose a nail that didn't fit my finger at all. Proceeded to awkwardly place the nail and glued/cured it down. Not only is it lifted and separated, it's misaligned. I can literally fit a metal file between the real nail and the pressed on one. When I brought this up, she proceeded to tell me that my nail is crooked and that's the reason for the gap.. *cue angelah Johnson's skit* I asked her to take it off and to try an acrylic nail instead since she didn't seem to keen on gel x. She refused and instead filed the sides more to 'fix it'. Bottom line is this, there's really only one token person who does all the different services well. Everyone else either seems to be fillers for simple manicure and pedicures. I'm tired of spending my hard earned money on techs that don't know how to do something you ask but attempts anyway and will not take accountability for when they mess up. This is not a nail school and the prices don't reflect it either. I now have to pay someone else, somewhere else to fix the one nail after spending $90 here. Let this be a PSA: We work too hard to earn our money for these life luxuries. Don't let shops like this make you feel like you're the problem when you bring up their wrong doing. You deserve to get what you pay for. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST.
