The sides are awesome the Mac & Cheese is super creamy and cheesy, my potato salad is so good and my husband said his baked beans were great. I love BBQ. It has been great to witness how much the BBQ scene in Houston has exploded over the past couple of years. Not only in terms of quantity but also going well beyond traditional BBQ to incorporate the diversity and creativeness that makes our city so special. Killen's BBQ in Pearland is number one for me. It's a lofty honor. I was in The Woodlands and stopped by for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Located close to Cynthia Woods, they have their own parking lot so parking won't be an issue. Like a lot of BBQ joints, you pick out what you want at the counter. My order is usually pretty standard: two meat plate with brisket and pulled pork with mac and cheese and creamed corn. And if I'm feeling fiesty, ribs and bread pudding. All of it is incredible. This time around, I decided to switch things up and get the chicken fried steak special which is served with green beans and mashed potatoes and gravy. While not traditional BBQ, with all of the restaurants in Killen's empire, he has the range. You get a jumbo-sized chicken fried steak which was extra crispy. That's what you want in a CFS. The green beans had bacon bits. Bacon on anything is a plus. And the mashed potatoes were quality too and complimented well by the gravy. I washed it all down with a sweet tea. Below are the reasons why Killen's will be my new "Go-to" for BBQ- Price- Compared to other BBQ restaurants with the same or comparable quality of BBQ, Killen's seems relatively inexpensive! A two meat plate WITH two sides was $20. That's inexpensive when you're talking about BBQ! Customer Service- Everyone in the restaurant, EVERYONE, was so friendly and kind! I felt welcomed and appreciated as well. Food- The food was EXCELLENT! I ordered moist brisket, macaroni (AMAZING), and green beans that were so fresh that they still had a snap to them when you ate them. We also ordered the banana pudding. Not worth the money or the hype. Corkscrew blows this place out of the water, hands down. The only thing that was impressive was the size of the beef ribs but they were mostly fat. They were great to add to slow cooked beans at home. Everything else was dry and not very flavorful compared other popular places around town. Not on the same level as the Pearland location concerning food quality & ambience. This Killen's looks like a refurbished Dairy Queen & doesn't carry the same "Texas BBQ" vibe. Also, food quality was way lower -- most of my brisket & sausage was dried out, so I suspect it had been reheated & wasn't fresh. The biggest disappointment was their burnt ends -- they were super chewy, barely warm, & unpleasant tasting. Burnt ends are chewy when they haven't had enough cook time. Staff was nice & friendly & service was fast, but my bbq experience at this Killen's location was severely lacking. Probably wont be back until I hear it has improved. read more

I was confused about why it was so empty inside and then I saw the sides on the hot table. They'd been sitting there all day by the look of it. The beans had literally re-dried. Mac and cheese was super bland. They served me the burnt dry end of the brisket. The turkey was slightly better. I am a huge fan of Ronnie Killen's bbq and what he's doing with his barbecue. I've been going to the location in Pearland for many years. I recently found they now have a location close to Conroe. I was able to cater some barbecue over to my clients and they absolutely loved it. I loved it too. When it comes to quality barbecue this is top notch. Food: I got moist brisket which was simply amazing. How do you get to try any of the other meats because all I ordered was the one we played this time. Next time I will try the sausage and ribs. The sides were good as well. If I remember correctly I got beans and potato salad. Or actually no it was macaroni and cheese. That was really good. The good thing about this location is you can get in and out pretty quickly. I didn't notice an extremely long line or anything like that. They also have a drive-through for to go orders. We ate here on our first visit to the area. They were out of so many meats and sides. The rub on the beef rib was so salty! The prices were crazy expensive too. One rib was more than $25!! It ain't the Pearland location but it's a good smoked meat palace. Brisket was perfect and was signature Killens. Was not able to compare the beef rib on my visit and was regulated to pork. They were big and tender per usual but a little too salty this time around. Sides again had some Pearland consistency awards, the Mac and cheese good, the Brussels sprouts all had the Broadway street magic. This was the first time trying killens barbecue in the Woodlands. I was a little hesitant because I didn't think it would be as good as the killens in Pearland. The Woodlands location definitely exceeded my expectations. I had the the beef rib plate which came with 2 sides. The beef rib was super moist and melted in my mouth, sooo good! The brussel sprouts and potato salad were good, no complaints. Husband had the 2 meat plate - turkey and brisket with Mac n cheese and cream corn. Never can go wrong with killens brisket also very good and melts in your mouth. Tried the turkey and it was super moist, he really liked it. They have a pickup window as well. We decided to dine in. We were actually pleasantly surprised! The food was delicious and flavorful. The price point was kind of on the high end but what isn't these days. The portions are large. We could've easily ordered the three meat dinner and purchased additional sides to save money but we didn't. Hubby had the one meat dinner with two sides. I had the 2 meat dinner that came with 2 sides. We both got fountain drinks and a slice of pecan pie. The total was approximately $63. I feel the pie was a bit overpriced but it was good. We should have asked them to warm it up for us. The brisket has a very good bark with plenty of flavor. Very tender and minimal fat. The turkey was juicy but could have had a bit more seasoning. So glad Killen's decided to bring their barbecue to The Woodlands! I was craving BEEF ribs, which is hard to find around here, and Killen's kills it! The beef ribs were sooooo tender and delicious! My sister enjoyed her pulled pork sandwich, my niece loved her beef ribs, as well, and my friend raved about the chicken. The area of opportunity we agreed on is in seasoning... we needed to add salt to most of our sides. We tried the greens, Mac and cheese, Brussels sprouts, corn, and the ginormous onion rings. We've been to Killen's in the The Woodlands a few times, so time to write a review. Yesterday I had the brisket plate and she had a chopped beef sandwich. Absent the impressive bark on the brisket, I could cut it with a fork, it was great. The leaner cuts they used on her sandwich were just right too, not too greasy. The collard greens were the best I've ever had, so good that she ate half my side, and she never eats greens. We got there around 11:15 and there was no line, no line at 11:45 either. We are truly blessed to have such great BBQ right here at home, no drive, no lines, no weird fusion nonsense going on, just great BBQ. Oh, and buckets of fried chicken for $20 too. read more

I had brisket, pork ribs and pulled pork - sides were the Collard Greens and Cream Corn. My only regret was that my stomach was not big enough to fit all this deliciousness in! The Coffee sauce sounded a little different; and it was, but in a GOOD way. The Tangy and Sweet sauces were also great - I could not decide which one I liked the most and so used all three on each of the meats. I am sitting here now looking at desserts. While this may not be great, A-level barbecue, it's solid and dependable. Old trusty Woodlands 'cue with mediocre ambiance will still do the trick, should you have a barbecue craving and you're not needing something from one of the area greats, a la Corkscrew Barbecue. The turkey is lean and moist, with a satisfying smoked taste. Pork ribs are one of their best items and the meat falls easily off of the bone. The mixed (fatty and lean) brisket is pleasing, and I've been pleased with everything from the pulled pork to the sausage. But what sets Killen's apart is that it seems to be one of a handful of brick and mortar barbecue joints within 15 square miles that offers beef ribs. Theirs won't keep you up at night pining for it, but it's decent. If it's not sold out, which I've encountered at times. Caveat emptor, though: I noticed while eating here that as I waited seemingly forever to get my meal at the counter, people just kept filing in and out, grabbing their to-go orders. They must know the drill: people ordering to-go here get services FAR sooner than those eating in. read more
