The crab cake is just ok. I prefer lump crab in a crab cake. The sauce served with the crab cake is dill based which is my least favorite herb complement for crab. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't my preference. I would not get it again. The service at this location was poor today. Since it was pretty empty and all the staff members were surrounding the bar, I sat at the bar. The team was more engaged with their interactions between one another than checking on my party. Each request I made was unnecessarily delayed. When I requested a container which was within eyesight and reach of the staff, I watched the employee stop and check on 2 other guests and make them drinks BEFORE handing me the container. I asked a 2nd person behind the bar and they did a similar thing before passing a container to me. There were 4 people behind the bar and maybe 5 guests, but each time I needed assistance, I had to ask more than once. Also, I could see my food items sitting in the kitchen while the team was continually chatting in the bar. This is my 3rd time at this location, and it will be my last. Although I like some of the menu items, the service today has depleted my tolerance for this location. read more

We had such a wonderful experience at Whiskey Cake Kitchen & Bar after spending the evening as prom chaperones, and it was the perfect way to unwind! From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was absolutely beautiful with dim lighting, cozy vibes, and such a warm and inviting atmosphere that made for the perfect date night. The host and our waitress were both incredibly welcoming, attentive, and kind throughout the evening. We started with the Brussels sprouts and crab cakes along with a round of whiskey flights for my hubby and a margarita for me -- everything was flavorful and delicious! For dinner, I ordered the perfectly cooked 7oz filet mignon topped with chimichurri sauce and parsley medley, while my husband enjoyed the chicken sandwich with fries. Every bite tasted fresh, hot, and well prepared. After a long night of prom chaperone duties, this was exactly the relaxing dining experience we needed. Color me converted! I'll be the first to admit -- Whiskey Cake Kitchen Bar didn't win me over on my first visit a couple of years ago. But when our group chose it for a wedding rehearsal dinner, I went in with cautiously low expectations... and left genuinely impressed. The menu has clearly leveled up, and the food shows it. We started with the charcuterie board, and it was so good we ordered a second one for the table -- that pretty much set the tone for the night. The Brussels sprouts were a standout: hot, crispy, with a perfect tangy char that had everyone reaching across the table for more. I skipped the cocktails, but the rest of our group raved about the smoked old fashioned and the margaritas -- based on their reactions, those drinks were doing some serious heavy lifting! My tavern burger was massive, juicy, and exactly what a great burger should be, with thick, satisfying fries to match. Our waiter was attentive without being overbearing, and the atmosphere struck that sweet spot between lively and relaxed -- perfect for a celebratory group dinner. One small note: the fried green tomatoes need a little love. They were under-seasoned and the battered coating didn't do them any favors -- a classic cornmeal crust would take them to the next level. I'm giving extra stars because, despite some hiccups, management truly tried to make sure we left happy -- which feels rare these days. First, I love the decor. It feels cozy, like a log cabin. Service started strong but ended just okay. Happy hour ends at 6 pm on weekdays. Some appetizers are $7 but seemed like reduced portions (for example, the charcuterie board includes just one cheese and one meat). We decided to skip happy hour and order from the regular menu. We began with the goat cheese fondue. It wasn't what I expected. Instead of melted cheese in a pot, it was a scoop of warm cheese smashed and mixed tableside. Not traditional fondue, but it did taste good -- just different from what we envisioned. The prime rib and Gouda sandwich was flavorful, and I appreciated that the horseradish was noticeable. The dill kettle chips were also good without being overpowering. They have a kids menu that includes a drink, though we had to remind them to bring our milk. The menu uses fancy names for basic items -- "sandwich melt" is grilled cheese, and "crispy Southern fried chicken fingers" are regular tenders. My daughter ordered the kids chicken and cheese melt. The top looked overdone, but when I flipped it over, the bottom was completely black. The staff quickly took it back to remake it. Unfortunately, the redo was still noticeably dark, though slightly better than the first attempt since it did have some brown patches this time. My daughter said it tasted burnt, and I had to agree. I snapped a photo and asked AI if I was going crazy. AI response: "Appearance: The bread has turned a dark brown to black color, which is generally considered burned." She switched to the fries, but they were cold -- not refrigerator cold, just clearly not fresh. I mentioned it to our waitress, suggesting maybe they sat out while the sandwich was remade. She dismissed the possibility saying they would never do that. Later, a manager brought fresh fries, but by then the experience had already affected our appetite and we didn't even want to take a bite. What truly turned things around was the manager. He came out personally, apologized, removed the kids meal from our bill, and sent us home with their signature whisky cake to try. We later tasted it at home and it was delicious. That gesture made a big difference. It felt like genuine care rather than a "better luck next time" response. While the meal itself had issues, management handled the situation thoughtfully and professionally. For that, they deserve recognition. read more

We gobbled down our food quickly, no dessert and only one fast cocktail so we can get out and off those cold chilly hard uncomfortable wobbly chairs. Ugh! Got dressed up for nothing. Next time, I will sit in a booth or the wooden chairs in the private room but those stupid ugly cold metal chairs have to go!!! How could you offer that kind of seating for patrons? Five stars goes to the food, service, hostess stand, ambiance and chef. Our evening was ruined. The margarita was very weak, would recommend getting a beer or wine instead. It's a bit dark inside but clean and rustic. Will not be back, simply based on the big service failure. I'd heard of these smoke-infused cocktails, and found the cherry wood smoked flavor and table side presentation well worth the price. Next we had deviled eggs. After passing Whiskey Cake many times on I45, we decided to stop for lunch. There was no waiting and we were seated quickly in a booth. The inside was really cool. Lots of wood decor and an amazing whiskey bar right in the middle of the restaurant. It was cold where we sat so bring a sweater if you're prone to getting chilled easily. We had fish and chips and the crunchy chicken sandwich. The fish and chips were good and the chicken sandwich had a nice tangy flavor with the pickles and BBQ sauce. A group of coworkers and I went to lunch at Whiskey Cake and we were not disappointed. Our waitress, Prestynn was very attentive and welcoming to our group. She made sure we had our drinks and food and was very accommodating! I had the chopped chicken salad which was very filling and tasty! Prices were a bit on the high side for the casual fare restaurant, with most main entree's priced above the mid 20's. We opted for sandwiches and burgers. The sandwiches came with homemade kettle chips or fries. We opted for fries this time. The sandwiches and burger were excellent, along with the piping hot fries. Appetizer artichoke and spinach dip with flat crackers, Amazing! Then for my late lunch field green salad with flat iron steak cooked, medium rare with a horseradish vinaigrette delicious! Abbe it took excellent care of me gave me recommendations. I ordered a ranch water that was made to perfection with salt around the rim. Of course the ambience is welcoming, friendly open concept with lots of tables televisions I will be back to try something else on that delicious menu, which is gonna be changing next week. Sometimes having high expectations can set you up for disappointment, and I think that was the case for me at Whiskey Cake. Overall, the experience was decent, but only one dish really stood out, the bone-in pork chop, which was absolutely delicious. The rest of the meal was just okay in my book. The fried green tomatoes were fine but nothing memorable. The mac and cheese (dare I say) was too cheesy for my taste. The deviled eggs, however, were very good, and my husband thought his chicken salad was "decent." One thing I struggled with was the menu, it felt a bit limited, and it took me a while to land on something I had a taste for. In the end, I settled on a dish more out of compromise than true craving. That said, I'm not writing this place off. I'd definitely give Whiskey Cake a second chance to impress me. I love Whiskey Cake, and have been to almost all their locations in Houston. I like the ambiance, very rustic. At night, the lights a dim and is romantic. You can never go wrong with their candied bacon and deviled eggs as appetizers. I love how they change their deviled eggs every so often, and it's always good. Their pork chop is consistently cooked perfect, so I get it every time. However, I wish they brought back the corn that used to be the side that comes with it. The peaches and the sauce was a bit too sweet for my liking. Now, I am supposed to be on a diet, but I had to break it for the whiskey cake. Without a doubt, you always have to order this whenever here. After all, the restaurant is named after it. This is my second time trying Whiskey Cake and I'll be back every year I visit. The inside is very spacious with outstanding recyclables in the restaurant. They change their menu pretty often but have some staples that remain. There were 8 of us in my party and we did not have a reservation. The hostess went out of her way to combine a couple of tables for us so we can comfortably sit. Our server was outstanding and was so patient with the kids and attentive to our table. We started off with some appetizers. We ordered deviled eggs, hummus, and crab bites. The deviled eggs were out of this world (about 4 or 5 to an order) and the hummus was so smooth and came with fresh veggies and grilled pita bread (the bread was awesome). I ordered the steak frites and it comes out perfect every time. It comes with parmesan fries with some fried peppers and a nice sauce on the steak. The steak was well-seasoned and cooked to a nice medium temperature. The dessert menu is very small and comes with only one item, the whiskey cake. This is the best cake I've ever had. It isn't rich or chocolate but contains amazing ingredients. Plenty of sugar pecans and other sweet things and it's topped with fresh whipped cream. If you go, order this. You know this place is consistent. Whether you're coming for the namesake dessert (yes, that whiskey cake) or the food, you better not leave without giving the whiskey cake a proper nod on your way out. It had been a while since my last visit, probably around the time the Woodlands location opened, but it's just as good as I remember. This spot is great for a meeting, a Sunday dinner, or any time you want fresh, thoughtful food. Many of the ingredients are grown right on the lot, and you can truly taste the difference. I had the Rotisserie Farm Bird, and it's rare to find a meal that's both comforting and energizing. Every bite felt like it was hand-delivered by a chef who genuinely cares about what they do. The chicken? I'm convinced it was raised in a God-fearing home, nestled somewhere out in the countryside, raised by two well-educated parents who instilled in it discipline, purpose, and a love for clean living. It drank spring water and went to bed early to be its best self, and that showed up on my plate. The whole experience, from the food to the staff, feels like it was made with intention. My rum punch was delicious and came in such a cute tiki glass. For appetizers we ordered the fire roasted brussel sprouts. Nice flavor and the grapes were an interesting but delicious touch. I just wish they were cooked a little longer as they were not as soft as I normally like them. For entrees we both got steak; we got steak frites and the ribeye. The fries were PHENOMENAL. They have this garlic parmesan on them that makes them so addictive. I would go back simply for these fries! Both our steaks were delicious and had a beautiful crust. And of course, we ordered the Whiskey cake. It came out warm and was PERFECT. So moist and the whipped cream was house made. This is a chain in the Houston area.. and their name sake is a chocolate cake that they make. I don't normally start with desert but this is one of the moistest cakes I have ever had. It is loaded with chocolate decadence and is rich beyond belief! The venue its self is all dark woods and dim lighting. Big huge bar, plentiful menu selections, and good service. We had a group of about 20 for dinner and they did a good job of keeping up with the orders and all. The actual meals are descent... again good selection and not just low end chain food... there is some thought put into their culinary options. And they are not just fire it up and toss it out plates. We also got the whiskey cake. It was ok - very sugary, but the cake itself was dry... I was pretty disappointed... Service was not exceptional either.. It took about 30 min for our waitress to take our order. I was just sitting there so hungry waiting... and then it took a long time for us to get our food as well. However the ambiance inside was really nice. It felt fancy and I loved all of the decorations. We got sat pretty quickly as well. Overall, for $32, I did not get what I paid for. All I can say is wow!! We honestly were not expecting much, however the food was fantastic. Parking was plentiful and the ambiance was just right with the lighting and decor. We were greeted by the friendliest and sweetest hostess who gave us her recommendations and explained the idea behind the restaurant. Our server was just as nice and very attentive. My husband got some type of French dip and I got the steak frites which were some of the best I have had in a while. The deviled eggs with blue cheese and buffalo chicken skin was chef kiss, sooo good! Next time I will definitely have to try the whiskey cake, however we left full and fulfilled. I was served at the bar by Desiree who walked my husband and I through the food and beverage menus and was an absolute delight. The pancakes had such a perfect profile, and the subtle tartness of the butter was such a great addition.The lemon crumbles added a much needed zest to my life. It was like the breakfast version of a blackberry bramble. However, the cocktail of the day was for sure the espresso martini. The espresso martini here reaches a perfect equilibrium and by far the best one I've had. And forget coffee beans, that marshmallow is a much better alternative.
