We've been coming here for over 20 years. Recently renovated, and it's better than ever! With a full coffee bar and bakery, including their amazing Vietnamese sandwiches. Everything here is simply amazing. This place is an Echo Park staple, owned by an amazing family!

Nem and Vietnamese Banh Mi
Jason L.

I had a hankering for a banh mi last week but didn't want to drive outside of LA. I also wanted to get coffee in the area but parking was a hassle, which prompted me to order my coffee and sandwich here. I was surprised to say that the Nem Banh Mi and the Vietnamese Banh Mi were both exceptional. The bread was fresh and crunchy, and the vegetables were crisp, not soggy at all. The Nem Banh Mi has got to be my new favorite. I also had the Cafe Sua Latte, which was also really good. There is a private parking lot, but its tiny and compact. I came here on a Friday afternoon, and there were only 2 other cars in the lot. Definitely check this place out for some good sandwiches and coffee! I know I will be back for the desserts they had out in display!

Probably the best banh mi I've had in my life I haven't yet visited Vietnam but the sandwiches from here will tide me over till then! The ladies at the front are super sweet and I love that this place is family owned and operated. There's not much inside seating but there's a patio outside with more tables.

This bakery has been here for many years, finally stopped in for a birthday cake and a Vietnamese sandwich. The bakery has sandwiches, cakes that can be decorated, and other sweets. The service was super quick, the bakery is super clean, and there are a ton of parking spots. All items are mainly Vietnamese and Asian inspired. they also have outdoor seating with benches. The outdoor dining tables are filled with Vietnamese inspired umbrellas and a shaded area. I will definitely be back for more Vietnamese sandwiches or if I need a special order cake you can order specialty cake or they have cakes waiting to be decorated for walk-in.

Just some updates on pricing for my own notes to refer back: cupcakes are $3 each (vanilla, chocolate, red velvet)-must pre order; 1/3 sheet $60; 1/4 sheet $40 (add $15 if you want to make it red velvet); 10" round $70; 12" round $120.

Lunar New Year Banh Chung. Mung bean and pork filling.

I grew up to having delicious cakes from KG bakery for my birthday for as long as I could remember. Sponge cake with a flavored whip icing, filled with your choice of fresh fruit. Yum! Seasonally, they bake fresh banh tet and banh chung for Lunar New Year, must preorder about 2-3 weeks in advance. My mom will only eat banh chung from here. The glutinous rice is cooked perfectly. Lots of filling and the flavoring is on point. I no longer live in the area, but will drive out from the IE just for these. The bakery is a bit hidden as it's pushed back from the street front and can be easily missed. They share a space with a law office. They have their own private parking lot in front of their shop, however, there's only enough space for about 4 cars. The family that owns the bakery are nice. I had no issues with my pre order, and pick up. I will definitely continue to make that trek out from the IE.

Moon cakes are expensive but have the quality of supermarkets - sweet and nothing special. The "cloud" cakes are overly sweet.

Ask the Community - Kien Giang Bakery

Hi there I had an issue with a cake I purchase, is there any way I reach a manger not from the bakery phone number?

Unfortunately they can only be reached by phone number.

If I want to buy moon Cake so I need to preordered?

No, however mooncakes are only available August-October (depends on when the lunar harvest day is). During that time, they have hundreds of mooncakes available for purchase.

How far in advance do we need to place an order for a custom birthday cake?

I'd recommend at least a week in advance! It really depends on the complexity of the design.

How much is Banh Chung? TIA

Do you make banh chung for lunar new year?

Yes!

Do they make durian cakes?

Yes they do

We tried almost all of the flavors they offered, except for pistachio, and every single one was unique and decadent. The buttercream is incredibly smooth and adds the perfect amount of moisture, making each bite really delightful. We also tried the chocolate chip cookie, which was very good. It had a crisp, slightly crunchy exterior, while the inside was soft and a little underdone--but still delicious, especially if that's the type of cookie you like. These cakes are exactly what I imagine a wedding cake should taste like. Definitely one of the best cakes I've had and a must-try.

The pistachio flavor struck first--not merely a taste, but a DECLARATION. Pure, unadulterated essence of Sicilian nuts, roasted to absolute perfection, ground into submission and transformed into something transcendent. The cream filling cascaded across my palate like a Mediterranean breeze, while subtle notes of butter created a symphony that left me defenseless! But the assault wasn't over. The black sesame cake sat before me, ominous and alluring like midnight itself. One bite, and suddenly I was falling through dimensions of flavor! The nutty, earthy depth of toasted sesame seeds wrapped around me like a silken robe, each layer revealing new secrets. Sweetness balanced perfectly against that characteristic bitter edge--yin and yang achieved in cake form! The texture? Impossibly moist, almost sinful in its richness. Finally, the berry pavlova delivered the knockout blow. Crisp meringue SHATTERED into a million crystalline fragments, giving way to clouds of cream and an explosion of berry compote that was simultaneously tart, sweet, and utterly devastating. A culinary arena where only the strongest taste buds survive!

I've had strawberry cream cakes from other places but it does not compare with Phoenix. It's not overly sweet and the whipped cream is so fluffy and not overly sweet either. Cake is moist and fluffy. Similar to asian cakes. The slice almond cakes is a must in my opinion but we did order one without for my son. The chocolate ganache was moist and chocolatey. My son said he could eat a bunch more slices. The neopoleon was amazing. Huge and full of custard and cream. The crust was flaky and crispy. Worth every bite! And today I was in the area, I was very excited to finally get a cake from here again! But the service was very disheartening. As soon as I arrived the older lady in the shop was upset because I didn't call to let her know about picking up a cake. For context, I've called before and there's been no answer and they used to have cakes ready to go in the past, so I didn't call ahead of time today. While asking about cakes, she was rushing me and told me several times " you need to be quiet, you talk too much" and not in the kind way. I was just asking about the flavors and if she could add happy birthday and she kept repeating " Be quiet you talk too much." I didnt mind waiting a few mins for the cake to be ready. However she was demanding I sit down all this time and was angry telling me why didn't I call. When asked about payment, and explored card or Apple Pay, she told me the price and said cash only and once again said " be quiet you talk too much" and demanding I go to the bank. I had to walk away as there was no need for her to provide that treatment to a customer who was excited for their cakes. This wasn't a pleasant experience and I hope others don't go through this.

Really authentic dim sum takeout spot with a good selection of classic items. We picked up egg tarts, egg rolls, shui mai, har gow, pineapple buns, and BBQ buns. Overall everything tasted really good, especially the dim sum items and buns. The egg tart was flaky and fresh, and the prices were surprisingly good for the amount of food we got. The only miss for me was the egg roll--it came out pretty soggy. The menu is a little more limited since it's mainly focused on takeout, but there was still plenty to choose from. Store was clean and service was fast, which made the stop easy and convenient. Only thing to keep in mind is there's no dedicated parking. We ended up using either street meters or a nearby lot for about $4. Overall, really solid spot for quick and authentic dim sum takeout at a very reasonable price.
