I have been making the drive to Kien Giang Bakery for the last two or three years. This is my new bakery for the moon cake season since my go-to moon cake place closed. It is a long drive from me, but definitely worth it. I like to stock up on their moon cakes a few days after Tet Trung Thu (the Vietnamese mid-autumn festival, when moon cakes are BOGO. I like their ga quay thap cam (combination roasted chicken moon cake)- $40/box of 4, bao ngu thap cam (combination abalone)- $57/box, and so diep thap cam (combination scallop)- $57/box. The moon cakes are much better than the other brands sold at grocery stores. I also ordered a container of their almond cookies- $4, which was pretty fresh although slightly dry. I also finally tried their combination banh mi with Vietnamese ham (banh mi dac biet)- $10.50. It was a huge sandwich and tasted average, but was filling. It had more of a Chinese taste with regard to the seasoning. The mayo was slightly different from the banh mi I am accustomed to eating in the Little Saigon area in Westminster. I will definitely be back every year to get moon cakes. Kien Giang has been around since 1980, and my mom said she used to be gifted these moon cakes. We phoned in our order but I actually don't think the order was ever placed at that time because when I arrived about 15 minutes later to pick up my order, it still took another 10-15 minutes for me to get it. This was probably one of the best new finds to start off the new year. We will for sure be frequent return customers - the bakery is so clean and aesthetic (with seating both indoors and outdoors), the service is friendly, the food hit the spot, and the value is incredible. $14 will land you a banh mi combo that comes with any drink on their menu + any dessert that's still available in the fridge or behind the glass display. This is seriously the best deal i've found in a while and it's actually so bomb. We enjoyed both the nem and dac biet banh mis, but favored the nem slightly more. Surprised I haven't reviewed here yet! A STAPLE in Echo Park - some of the best pastries, sandwiches, and coffee in town - plus the owners are the absolute sweetest people! My favorites are the guava and cream cheese pastry (do NOT sleep on this!) - and they have so many veggie sandwich options - I love the veggie prime rib! I realize a veggie prime rib may sound strange, but trust me - it's SO good! Also - a bakery in LA with parking? Sounds too good to be true. I had a hankering for a banh mi last week but didn't want to drive outside of LA. I also wanted to get coffee in the area but parking was a hassle, which prompted me to order my coffee and sandwich here. I was surprised to say that the Nem Banh Mi and the Vietnamese Banh Mi were both exceptional. The bread was fresh and crunchy, and the vegetables were crisp, not soggy at all. The Nem Banh Mi has got to be my new favorite. I also had the Cafe Sua Latte, which was also really good. There is a private parking lot, but its tiny and compact. I came here on a Friday afternoon, and there were only 2 other cars in the lot. Definitely check this place out for some good sandwiches and coffee! This bakery has been a mainstay of my childhood and my life. Mooncake for the Mid-Autumn Festival is a must from here. I really enjoy the scallop moon cake, and am surprised at how well all the ingredients go together. The mixed nuts mooncake is definitely an acquired taste, as well as being a high calorie food. So this just happened. This morning I was craving for a Vietnamese sandwich and found this place near by on Yelp. I drove there, parked my car (they have a plenty of parking) and as soon as I walked in there were three young workers there. I was looking at their sandwich menu and one of the workers said to others "do you wanna make a sandwich"l?" as if they do not want to make anything. One of them even did not look happy at all even they said "I can make it." I was thinking if I should be niche to them just order whatever i wanted and walked out. I grew up to having delicious cakes from KG bakery for my birthday for as long as I could remember. Sponge cake with a flavored whip icing, filled with your choice of fresh fruit. Yum! Seasonally, they bake fresh banh tet and banh chung for Lunar New Year, must preorder about 2-3 weeks in advance. My mom will only eat banh chung from here. The glutinous rice is cooked perfectly. Lots of filling and the flavoring is on point. I no longer live in the area, but will drive out from the IE just for these. The bakery is a bit hidden as it's pushed back from the street front and can be easily missed. They share a space with a law office. They have their own private parking lot in front of their shop, however, there's only enough space for about 4 cars. The family that owns the bakery are nice. I had no issues with my pre order, and pick up. I will definitely continue to make that trek out from the IE. read more

The meat pie pastry is delicious ! I received a strawberry shortcake , 8inch. I bought this cake for 2 people, but it was enough for 10 at least. The strawberries were fresh, and I enjoyed the whipped frosting, but I think next time I will ask for less frosting. The cake was perfectly spongy and light, a cake that is not too sweet. I'm from San Gabriel Valley and wanted to try a place closer to where I live now. Decided to check out this place in echo park. I never knew it existed. The banh mi sandwich is legit. To me, what makes a good banh mi is the bread. The ingredients of course are equally good but without the bread, it would ruin it. The bread is perfectly hard (not to hard or crumbly but still a crunch) on the outside and soft on the inside. It's stuffed with a generous almost of meats and veggies. I like that they put large cucumbers in it, which I'm not really used to with most banh mi sandwiches but it adds to the freshness and crunch. The price is a little bit high compared to SGV prices but it's worth it. $7 is not bad. They have a French and American sandwiches as well as a variety of vegetarian faux meats. Definitely will be my go to for the area, and if we ever get to watch a dodger game in person again, it will be my pick-up sandwich to bring to the game. Sounded like a family owns it.
