I just realized that I hadn't updated my review! I absolutely love this coffee shop. The baked goods, cookies and tacos are all top notch. I regularly crave their tacos, especially with their extra hot sauce! My wife always gets one of their seasonally flavored lattes, and is never disappointed. I am still absolutely hooked on their pecan cold brew. Delicious and with enough caffeine to wake the dead. Add to that the consistently friendly service, a personable owner and non-pretentious vibes? Rudest employee I've ever experienced. Went in for a coffee and the cashier asked me if I like something to eat or coffee, then suggested their breakfast tacos. I asked if they were made in house and she said they were. I told her I appreciated the offer but declined and told her I work for a local company (I shared the name of the company) that also sells breakfast tacos. Her direct response was "those are garbage!". She could tell by the look on my face, how offended I was by the comment. She immediately apologized but the damage was done. What kind of hospitality is this? Is it a practice to insult your customers whenever they feel the need? I told her that her comments were completely unwelcome and unacceptable. I have been to this business a couple of times but never again. Plenty of establishments that would value my business rather than to hurl insults at me. read more

Cool small venue for open mic nights and comedy nights. No cover charge either! They had a huge selection of interesting gourmet cookies. Lots of different coffee drinks too, and some with alcohol which is a fun combo. Overall a good experience, but I will say half the place is so dimly lit I felt uncomfortable sitting in that area. There was practically a dark hallway of seating, which was all that was available when we showed up. A little improvement to the ambience and this place would've been a 5 star. read more

I really enjoyed my experience here. Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of downtown, it was literally a four minute drive from the gym as I was looking for a place I could get some work done and get a workout in. (I'm a weird person I know) What I really enjoyed about this place is how calm it was during the time I was there. They serve food until 3pm so I was able to order a Cesar Salad and added chicken to it. The chicken was at an additional cost but they served quite a bit of it and it had a nice fajita-like seasoning to it. My only suggestion is for the salad to have shaved parmesan flakes instead of shredded. (not a big deal though) If I wasn't trying to be healthy I would've gone for their chips and queso or the round rock donuts lol. The coffee was quite delicious and I enjoyed my iced latte. They also have soy milk as an alternative which is a win in my book. You'll also want to make sure to not throw away your receipt as it holds the code for the bathroom and the wifi password. Now this is as Austin of a coffee shop as it gets. Hipster vibe, good coffee and breakfast tacos. What more do you need? The decor is pretty awesome, they have music some times and even play recordings of karate from next door. That's unique in and off itself that's worth the stop. Coffee wise, it's good. They have a good amount of drink variety and syrups to make whatever you desire. Tacos look small but they are definitely packed. Not sure what sausage they use but it's very flavorful and they don't skimp. They also have a secret menu worth checking out. read more

This is the best coffee I've had since moving to Texas! I told them they I like black ice coffee but a little sweet and I don't really like milk or cream in my coffee. They suggested the flavor Space Force which gives a lite hazelnut flavor. Absolutely amazing! Not only do they offer a variety of coffees and flavors they also serve a variety of teas AND A FULL BAR! This place is definitely a vibe. They play more upbeat jams that puts you in most relaxing mood! Kick Butt offers a variety of seating as well; booths, table tops and outside smaller table tops if you want to sit and work alone and still listen to the great music they play. I went around 9AM and saw they have a Dj set up as well but I'm not sure the times that it operates. It's a very peaceful vibe here. I will definitely be back! Oh, breakfast tacos, I have seen your light and it shines on me forever. I was in Austin for a few days for a poetry festival and discovered Kick Butt Coffee as they were nice enough to host several of the events. I understand you can't walk 10 feet in Austin without tripping over a place that serves breakfast tacos, and I'm okay with that reality. Besides at the airport on the way home, Kick Butt Coffee were the only ones I had in the city so I don't really have anything to compare them to, but these were delicious. They offered 3 vegetarian options, A black bean and potato, an egg cheddar, and potato, and a yummy special which added avocado and spinach to the previous. According to their website, they make only so many and may run out depending how busy they are. I got lucky when I showed up...it wasn't very busy and there were vegetarian tacos a-plenty available for me. I had the "yummy" special, and the egg, cheddar and potato. These are soft tacos which weren't so much in terms of presentation, but which were absolutely delicious, especially with a little bit of the spicy salsa. I want more! Kick Butt is also a full fledged coffee house with a lunch menu with lots of choices for vegetarians. (Order at the counter.) And perhaps most importantly, the coffee was excellent. All good things to a coffee-house that serves good coffee. If I lived in Austin I'd be a regular here at all times of the day. read more

Been to a couple shows at Kick Butt, but right now we've been getting a lot of their coffee since... no shows, hah. I love small venues and kick butt fills slot perfectly. Decent sound, sometimes you luck Into seating, and really good drink selection. Solid. Most of the time - the coffee is stellar. However, it's variable depending on who makes it. Heads up that the staff doesn't wear masks during stage 5 restrictions. I went in today and ordered a sandwich. I had to wait to order while the barista was making drinks which wasn't a big deal, but might matter if you're in a hurry. Barista wasn't wearing a mask and didn't greet me. I ordered my sandwich and she said it came with a side. When I asked what the sides were, the barista just responded that they were listed on the menu in a super annoyed tone. When I tried to add a drink to my order, the barista said she had to close out my sandwich order before she could take my drink order. I ordered my drink and she kept interrupting me to ask questions I had already answered in my order. I waited to get my sandwich and the girl who brought it out from the kitchen was masked. I ate outside as they have some small tables adjacent to the door. Oh yeah, I get it, this is a really cool spot! I came here not for the coffee, which I heard was kick-butt, but for a book release event that showcased Joe Brundidge's poetry collection entitled: "Element 615" on a Sunday afternoon-- nice job Joe B. It's a large, karate-themed coffee shop with plenty of booth, bar and table seating for a pretty good amount of people, but still has an intimate feel. At the front of the shop there's a stage where performances such as spoken word poetry take place. Relax and take in the entertainment while you enjoy, in my case: red wine, water and giant, decadent cookies. OMG, the massive cookies (chocolate chip and chocolate chunk and mint) are a must try! Heeyaaaht!! 4 Stars!!!! This place is pretty das; good coffee too. Warning: ninjas on the premises. The creatively named giant cookies are delicious and fun, and I highly recommend the sausage, egg, and cheese breakfast taco with their spicy green salsa. The eggs taste like they are freshly beaten, straight from the shell, and the sausage is of the smoked link variety, not the traditional breakfast sausage. In addition to good breakfast and coffee, there is a full service bar, and a small stage where they host events such as Sunday morning church, poetry readings, stand up comedy, and live music. Coffee is okay. Service is meh, but the place as a venue is pretty dope. I have been here during the day time as well as for shows, and I definitely like it much better as a small little hole in the wall venue. The prices are not the cheapest (especially when you are ordering drinks) but the food and coffee prices tend to be more reasonable. The location is pretty great, it is right where 290 turns into Koenig/2222 and Intersecting Airport Blvd. Very easy to get to, but even easier to miss if you are not paying attention. Chocolate pecan frappe was done to my wife's exacting specs and she loved it, I thought it was tasty too....I just call them frozen blended coffee thingys 'cause everybody has their own name for them. I enjoyed a large hot cappucino which was done very well and a large brazen craizen cookie with a bruce lee saying on it. We enjoyed visiting with the man, Derrick, that made the 5 star drinks. Came by to get some coffee before I jumped on the bus to Houston. The place is pretty cool. It's fairly large inside with plenty of seating. They have bands that place here. I love that interaction with the local music scene. It mixes so well with coffee. One of the things I like is that they are not afraid to give recommendations for coffee. I always love to ask what they like or would recommend. That's how you know they love the place where they are working. Super cool guy I talked to. Their bathrooms are super clean and decorated with a local band feel. Lots of band stickers and posters up. This is a kick butt place and if you should stop by to check them out. Went to the establishment this morning with my fiancé. I didn't go in with her, which i should have. We ordered 3 caramel frappes and some breakfast tacos from the only guy at the counter. The cashier was young, mediocre, and just had an ugly attitude with my fiancé. She was told that there were no more breakfast tacos, of course he said he "looked". The guy behind her ordered and guess what he ordered.. a breakfast taco! Wow how is it that you had no more tacos. Not sure if the young cashier was racist or sexist but it doesn't look good for your establishment Thomas. I then went back to make him redo them, he apologized but I wasn't looking for one. He definitely seemed scared because of the confrontation, and made up an excuse saying he rushed making the coffees. You shouldn't be rushing to make my order in the first place, make it as if was your own coffee. The frappes were distasteful for the price! We only went because she had known the owner. No idea why she would want to waste money here. Me personally I don't know how she thinks the owner is nice, he's weird and seemed like he didn't care. The baristas at Starbucks or anywhere else are way much nicer! Don't waste your time and money here! Way too overpriced. Update: this clown is seriously a joke. On February 23rd, I had posted about an incident at Kick Butt Coffee where my husband and son were both intentionally knocked off their feet by an unruly patron while they were filming the musical acts playing that night. I also heard from several others that the employees were aware of this woman's behavior and simply ignored it. Several musicians and other patrons stepped up and shared their own stories of being run down by this woman. I directly contacted Thomas R. Ghoring, the owner/operator of the establishment. I received no response at all. A recent patron of Kick Butt contacted me today and shared his experience with me, having posted a review on Kick Butt's FB page, only to be told by the owner to unlike his page and don't come back. Check the reviews for yourself and you'll see this exchange. People, you work hard for your money; we all do. Do you feel satisfied handing it over to a business person who tells those who challenge his product or service to not come back, or he who simply ignores his own establisment's issues outright??? DON'T!!! This happens far too frequently around here and is tolerated too much!! Remember Sara Christensen from Kickass Masterminds - the Austin startup entrepreneur who essentially was driven out of business after she shamed a potential employee and posted a picture of the candidate in a bikini on her company's site?? I've been sitting here for the past 2 hours working on a term paper and I thought I'd take a quick break to write about this place. First off, I love how the owner is often hanging out here, drinking a coffee, interacting with customers and employees, just chillin. There's something charming to me about a restaurant or bar where the owner can be found reading the paper or balancing their books. Like they have have created the kind of place they would want to go to on the regular. I love the food selection here. Get here early enough and they have some tasty tacos. TBH they're a little small for me but they are quite tasty. They also carry greek parfait, bagels, pizza, sammiches, and other delicious treats. The coffee is great as well. Very flavorful. It has a nice balance, doesn't taste like tea, or burnt. And of course it's great that they have alcohol. I miss the Green Muse because I use to love working at a coffee shop all day and then come 6-7pm switch over from coffee to a good beer. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. Easier to study here in the daytime when things are calm, before all of the open-mic, pub quiz type stuff that happens here most nights. read more
