$4.75 for a 20 ounce iced coffee? This is absolutely insane. They also charge $1.00 for a cup of water. I was skeptical to come into this place because of their super corny name and unfortunately I can confirm this place is a waste of time and money. There was also a somewhat strong odor of mothballs when I visited. Considering all of the great coffee options in Austin, it's incredible this place can stay open. read more

This place is a little hole in the wall, but when you get there they have great food, beverages, and awesome music! The specialized cookies are always fun to look at. The staff is cool, and the place itself has a cool atmosphere that can be relaxing, or get intense when a band is on stage. Very cool! read more

I just ordered a mocha from this place, and it was just awful. It had a chemical/metallic flavor and aftertaste that ruined the coffee. I'm not sure if it was due to the products they use to clean the machine, or if it was just cheap flavoring added to the coffee, but it was the worst coffee I've ever had. I'm not going back. read more

Arrived here just before 7am on a Wednesday with my boyfriend and we were the only customers. We asked for a few different items off their breakfast menu and were told they couldn't make them for us because they were still getting things ready. We settled for the coffee paired with round rock donuts and it was anything but delicious! Our bill for 5 donuts and two coffees was $25!! Just that alone left a sour taste in my mouth! Not impressed and would not recommend this place to anyone! read more

Needed a spot with free wifi after a move, and they were right around the corner. Friendly staff, really enjoyed the recommended bean, cheese, potato breakfast taco. Excellent music, in a not stuffy atmosphere. read more

Amazing coffee! Must try any of there delicious muffins. The barista was fast and courteous. If I lived in Austin I come back here everyday.

Love the atmosphere here and the coffee is amazing. Also a lot of creative cookie combinations and other great food. Love the service.

I love the atmosphere and products. I'm hooked on the iced coffee they make. Yummy. And the cookies are amazing. I love the location and enjoy passing by on a reg basis !!! Love to support local business!!! read more

A fun location to gather with friends and have a good time. I first visited Kick Butt Coffee to see my friend's punk band play. The staff is friendly and the coffee is superb. I like the Guatemalan blend I had on my first visit. I tried a Supreme Pizza and some Of their famous cookies on my second visit. We will be back soon for open Mic night. Thank you for hosting us and thank you for your amazing service. read more

I've been to Kick Butt twice. The first time was a few months ago... on a late evening. A decent crowd from the owner's karate business, including Mr. Gohring himself trickled in. I had a cappuccino which was poor in quality...weak- with no kick. I was not impressed. Average at best would be a stretch and too generous. My second visit came on Saturday June 7th. Again Gohring was present sitting in a booth and the most of the crowd seem to knew each other. I walked in looking to order a double espresso. The barista (male with dark hair) was making a couple of drinks and no one else was in line on front of me but he chose to strike up conversations with friends instead of acknowledging me. I was ignored. "Hey, how are you doing today? I'll be right with you" would have sufficed and would have bought him enough time to finish the drinks he was making and I would have sympathized and left a decent tip after the transaction. I'm very patient because I know what it is like to be on the other side of the counter. After a couple of minutes I turned around and left and took my business elsewhere. If they didn't notice me walk and stand at the counter for a couple of minutes, surely I hope they noticed me leaving. I spent 7 1/2 years in the coffee industry where customer service and creating a welcoming atmosphere was always the priority towards building customer loyalty. I suppose in another few months I'll make another visit (my third). Hopefully it won't be the third strike. read more

Kick butt kicks serious butt. Their staff is great! The music is awesome! I definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys music that they check out kick butt coffee. See you soon guys! Keep on rockin! read more

after numerous visits, kick butt has changed my mind. i like you kick butt, you're alright. the reason i say this is for 3 reasons. #1 Damn good cookies, #2 Great venue to go watch shows in an intimate setting, also kudos for expanding! and #3 Best baristas, seriously they deserve nothing but good things (like more money) read more

I thought I already posted a review on yelp, but I guess it was on facebook. Anyhow, I like this place because it is not as crowded or busy as other coffee shops. I never come in here in the evening, so this review reflects daytime experiences. Im sure thats not good for the employees though. Anyhow, Ive had the coffee, had the booze(3 dollar rum and cokes!) and the frappes are great, I recommend red velvet cake or almond joy flavors. The bathrooms are clean(code on the door is 2468) the staff is cool, parking is not a problem. The internet has been consistently good. I was here once at night, it was open mic. Some self hating white woman did some routine about how bad white people were and how she hated herself. I spat coffee out my nose and all over my computer screen. The media and our "education" system sure has fried people's brains. Anyhow, yeah this place is cool. read more

This is one of my favorite coffee shops. A lot of places expect you to know what every style of coffee is and I have seen a few times where others have asked what a certain type of coffee or drink is. (not me of course, I know good coffee which is why I go to Kick Butt ). The staff is always super cool and laid back. The food is always banging. If they rented out a 1 bedroom apartment and I would have to shower in the sink and use a Porta potty every day. I would still move into that apartment so I could be that much closer to the tastiest coffee in town. read more

I was feeling like a coffee with some booze and since they are close by I gave it a go. It turned out to be open mic night. With the exception of the sound guy talking loudly the music was good. The mocha was delicious (5.50) but I forgot to get it boozy. Shot of Amaretto (5.50) worked. I don't know if they have coffee drinks with booze menu. A la carte I paid $12.00 for a medium mocha and a shot. It was good but a little pricy. Service wasn't too bad considering there was only one barista. I've had a sandwich here before but I remember it being expensive (10.50) for what it was. A good coffee with booze on a cold Thursday night was a better experience. read more

I organized a meetup group here only to discover Kick Butt Coffee's Wi-Fi was down that day. I didn't mind, considering I could tether my internet connection from my phone, but other members of the meetup group weren't as lucky. Later, I went to the cash register to inquire about beer prices, only to have my ID checked? I don't mind having my ID checked after ordering a beer, but having my ID checked after inquiring about prices (before ordering) is slightly Nazi. read more

Nice atmosphere, really great mochas and frappes (doesn't taste like chemicals), friendly staff, and cool quirky personality sprinkled about the place. Do visit the restroom and read the stories on the walls, ignore weird looks when you come out after so long. read more

Paid over $7 for a cup of coffee, a muffin and a banana at Kick Butt Coffee yesterday. I think that's overpriced, especially considering neither the coffee nor the muffin were very good. I have been there before for coffee and the coffee wasn't much good then either. I haven't had the food there or experienced the live music and other things Kick Butt has to offer. But I think as primarily a coffee shop it falls short by not ensuring it serves good coffee. There is also no excuse, in my opinion, for not having tasty baked goods as there are a lot of places that make yummy stuff. Especially if they are going to charge what they charge, they need to do a good job with the basics. read more

I'm not usually a negative reviewer but I'm visiting from out of town and was disappointed. I can't speak for the food or music but as far as the coffee goes... There's much to be desired. The milk was so over steamed I fried my tongue even after letting it rest for a few minutes. Additionally the inside of the cafe was so musky and stunk like a dive bar that needed to be cleaned. It's sad to see so much potential. Fortunately this can all be fixed with a little better training and cleaning. read more

Was going to give it 3 stars, but the review title says "A-Ok"...well atmosphere is fantastic, plenty of room to sit down and work, great place for a group or a meeting, but the prices are outrageous. $7 for a 20oz latte (going rate is around $5 everywhere else in town). What the heck!!!! I was here in the early AM hours when there wasn't any music, so not sure how things are in the evening, but if you work remote a lot like I do the atmosphere is great for that, just expect to pay more or your coffee than anywhere else in town. read more

I wanted to reserve judgment on Kick Butt Coffee until I'd been there a few times and tried the food. My opinion - I like it. It's a small coffee place with a full bar and an evolving menu (they just added breakfast tacos this week). I'm not a big coffee person but I have to say that their tea is amazing! They steep it perfectly and (the green tea anyway) is very high quality. The sandwiches are average (just plain old cold sandwich) but the fresh made stuff is very good. I had a pizza last night and it was very tasty and made fresh for me. It's usually not super crowded, though I've never been during the day, and they seem to work hard to have interesting things going on. The baristas are also really nice and professional. Oh, and on a random note, they have really nice lids for the hot drinks to go. You can cover up the little hole in the top. It's simple, but these little things show attention to detail I think. Also, the prices on the food are really reasonable (under $6 for a personal pizza). read more

I have been to kick butt coffee a few different times, and the coffee is ok, but overpriced. Also the times I went there to just wait to meet a friend one employee sneered at me because I was just waiting for someone and not buying anything. The same guy asked me to change tables with a short, rude tone because there was a musician coming, and there were only 2 other people sitting in the whole coffee shop the whole time I was there (the musician was actually good though)..I found it so odd that the employee was grumpy...maybe it is because they make them wear those silly outfits. Also, the next time I went I had just bought a Wendy's sandwich and I was going to chill in the shop, maybe get a drink and use the internet but the grumpy same employee told me he was going to ask me to leave because I was eating a sandwich from a different place...I informed him that I was a hungry pregnant lady and I was sorry, then I left and decided I would never spend money there again. This coffee shop does not seem to be a chill place to hang, which I thought was the point of an Austin coffee shop. I have never been treated this rudely at Epochs or anywhere else for that matter. Also I met a guy outside who said he asked to charge his phone inside and the same guy wouldn't let him because he judged him based on how he looked since he had tattoos on his face, when he was a decent and frankly really nice guy, and everyone in Austin has tatoos. It makes me sad that a business based on customer service actually thinks its ok to treat their customers like this, especially in Austin. read more

Had been wanting to try a new place. Weird smell going in. $10 for 2 small coffees that weren't anything amazing. Hot mocha i ordered was warm not hot. Kitchen was closed even though we went at 1245 on a Saturday. The counter lady didn't tell us this until we ordered even though we were standing there looking at the food menu for over 5 minutes. While trying to place my order the lady taking the order interrupted me twice to have a side conversation with another employee and offered no apology. Was going to get a donut, but there were flies in the display case. Extremely disappointed. Will not be back. read more

I enjoy dropping in from a busy day of seeing clients and having a quiet retreat savoring the excellent coffee latte's. Smoothest in town. Funky atmosphere, Kung fu and tai chi decorations, good cookies. Never had a bitter cup yet. Had a friend in from Dallas, and she asked 3 times to go back there, said it was the best she'd had in Austin! read more

I am chillen in A-town and saw the comedy at KBC. Dude, I look a lot like that John Rabon guy that went up. My friends were giving me a hard time about it all night ha ha. It was a fun night regardless of the fact that my body double was on-stage. Coffee was dope. read more

Been a fan of Kick Butt Coffee from even before they started selling booze. Now I like them even more. I have spent many hours there studying and it is also my quick stop on the way to work. The employees are great, friendly, and make a good cup of coffee. I haven't tried any of the food, but it looks amazing. This is mostly due to the cookies I can't get away from. Thanks Thomas! read more

Have always avoided this place, as I felt the name to be a little on the cheesy side. However, in desperate need this morning and it was right in front of me, so I gave it a try. Pleasantly surprised with the service, the Irish Cream latte, and the bean & potato breakfast taco. Bean & potato tacos are usually disappointing to me when I order them in White World, but they nailed it. And to top it off, the Kick Butt name actually is connected to their Kung Fu theme, complete with uniforms and cute sandwich names. Who knew? read more

I love Kick Butt Coffee in Austin! Service is amazing, love the decor and their coffee is better than the competitors by far!!

Name delivers. It is Kick Butt Coffee. Of course it should be Kick Ass Coffee if it really kicked butt, but I digress. This place is a nice, super clean, good food, good coffee, place on Airport Bullervard. That street that is dying maaaaaaaan. (RIP Highland Mall.) They have bagels and imported-from-someplace-else tacos and a lunch menu full of kind of expensive but psycho good sandwiches that come with a side salad or Mrs. Vicky's chips. Every single employee I've dealt with there has seemed super stoked to be working there and totally happy to help me. -1 star for dead tired old boring Chuck Noris meme. read more

The KINDEST baristas EVER. Genuinely happy human beings that make a kick butt soy latte. Breakfast taco was delish, too! If you choose to stay, the cafe is clean and spacious. I forgot to ask for SFV and when I came back, they weren't annoyed (this happens with corporate coffee sometimes) and also happily gave me directions/info about where to visit while in town. read more

While the coffee and tea are expensive the crowd makes it almost worth it to go the extra mile and pay an extra buck and the staff...

Cool coffee shop on Airpot Blvd. I have come here to work a couple times and have enjoyed it. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed. They have a great lunch menu. The kickin chicken sandwich is a favorite of mine, some of the best chicken salad I have ever had. They also play a great music selection during the day, you are not stuck listening to the same type of music all day. I have not had a chance to come here in the evening but that will change soon. read more

Kickbutt is clean & inviting, without the sterilized corporate vibe that chain shops can have. The quirky martial arts theme sets it apart, but also reflects a spiritual undercurrent of openness and involvement. The management is open to various music performances, as part of that community spirit. I perform there twice a month and enjoy it because I am free to bring in all kinds of musical explorations. The only downside for me is the huge TV screen in the back which acts as a magnet for my eyes. read more

The atmosphere is nice. The arts, music and comedy are nice. They have wifi and plugs. They offer overpriced coffee drinks, a large latte with soy is currently over $6 after tax! They either don't have or are always out of almond milk. Their breakfast taco selection is limited. At night, in winter of 2016, they had a barista guy working who seemed to hate his job, serving, people, or comedy night. Their overpriced margarita is tequila with a super cheap bottled margarita mix. I did not dare try it. They don't put their prices on the menu because their prices are outrageous, especially in this neighborhood. It's the most expensive coffee/bar in Austin, and the least likely to have what you are looking for, aside from the arts and entertainment or a place to sit or work. read more
