I've been going to Kick Butt, with regularity, for 9 months. The food, the coffee, and the service are all very good. I was enjoying the coffee and service for a while before I had their breakfast tacos and then...wow, the tacos were great! They make them fresh every morning, and only a certain amount, so get there in time. The quesadilla is great, too, and the chicken you can add is fresh and juicy. The guac is really good, too. Kick Butt is a little out of my way, but it's worth the extra few minutes. The coffee is always fresh & EXCELLENT. I'm a Chicago boy, so I know my pizza... and the pizza is good. Not GREAT, but it'll do. The sandwiches are good, and the full bar is WICKED on the open mic nights. (One of the best in Austin, by the way.) The wifi is reliable, there are lots of plugs, there's always a seat, and the music is great. Oh, and the movies on the big screen TVs are very cool. As far as the barristas go, I usually see either Naiman or Bruce and both of them are great. Naiman is terminally friendly, always with a smile on his face. Bruce is a very cool dude, even if a tad on the quiet side... but that's just fine if you want coffee and not a lot of conversation. Don't be put off by the martial arts theme.... there's a good reason. The owner is one of the finest Kung Fu teachers in the state of Texas. I've been to a LOT of the coffee shops in Austin over the years, and this one is one of the better ones. read more

This place is great. They have a number of specialty coffee drinks, but I just usually for the regular coffee. One thing I like about this place that sets it apart is that is has alcohol. Real liquor. I can put a shot of Jameson or Baileys or whatever in the coffee. How awesome is that? The staff dresses in marshall arts, far east type clothes. I have not yet tried the food, but judging from the looks, its great. The wireless internet is nice and fast. The bathrooms are nice and clean too! This place is generally dirty, works basically as a cafeteria with live shows. It's dimly lit and given the distro, it often feels that no matter where you sit, you're somewhat in the way of traffic. Might be a cool spot to check out given it's shows but certainly not the most awesome stage in Austin. read more

As always, Kick Butt delivers on their name. The drinks, both coffee and alcohol were great! And the staff were amazing. Updating my review, the first time I came I has a bit of a bad experience. With that being said the owner went out of his way to make it right! Went in on a day before work and a very nice gentleman helped me out. Even though he was CLEARLY busy he dropped what he was doing and helped me pick out an item and answered every question I had. I went here one day when I was on my way to work. The barista had no sense of urgency - the customers in front of me had gotten their drinks and paid and were still standing there talking to her for a good 5/10 minutes before she even acknowledged me. I was somewhat in a hurry and told her what i wanted, and she proceeded to move super slow, and all of that would've been overlooked if the coffee was good, but i was SO disappointed. My vanilla latte did not have ANY vanilla in it. That was my first time trying this establishment and I don't think i will be going back. I want to like this place, I really do - but the quality is just not there. The prices are high, which, if the coffee was good, I could ignore; but it's not. Every drink I've tried (yes, there have been multiple - this place is close to work and I keep hoping) has this weird, sort of burnt/sour taste to it. It just tastes off, very hard to explain. This place rocks. Hella good coffee, and it was not even insanely expensive. Nothing worse than getting a sub par cup of coffee and overpaying for it... This is not the case here!!! Try their cookies too! And they accidentally threw away my coffee while I was in the bathroom and the dude made me a brand new one. That's what I'm talking about. This place is a little hole in the wall, but when you get there they have great food, beverages, and awesome music! The specialized cookies are always fun to look at. The staff is cool, and the place itself has a cool atmosphere that can be relaxing, or get intense when a band is on stage. Very cool! read more

I recently purchased the Living Social coupon for $50 worth of coffee and such for $20. I used it this morning, expecting to be given a gift card with a $50 balance. Not so, I was given a punch card in $5 increments. So I get a large smoothie and am told I need to spend $5 to get a punch. Hmmm ok, I don't need another item. So I buy a water and pay the remainder on my end. Seriously? I have a coupon and I want to spend it, not use my money. Basically I will need to spend $5 each time I use my punch card. What's the point when I need 1 latte that is $3.75? Not happy about this at all. read more

A fun location to gather with friends and have a good time. I first visited Kick Butt Coffee to see my friend's punk band play. The staff is friendly and the coffee is superb. Wow, I saw the Kick Butt folks complaining on facebook that they had received two bad comments on yelp, so I thought I'd come check em out. In both cases they go out of the way- in all caps - to explain how great they sell things & sell out of things - then blame a smell on possibly a homeless person? Wow, I know that won't get me back there. The one time I went it was run lackadaisically - but whatever, Austin right? I had been to Kick Butt once before but just to meet a friend. I went for comedy night on 8/8. We arrived early to grab a bite to eat not knowing food is not sold after 3pm. We were offered a pizza instead. The pizza was ok but being a vegetarian i ordered the veggie and was disappointed that jalapenos were all over the pizza. Not everyone eats hot spicey food. My friend had the pre made sandwich and was trying to eat it but ended throwing it away because she said it was horrible. After she comes back to the table the guy at the table next to us takes a bite out of his sandwich and says its the worst sandwich he has ever had. Your food options for night events needs to be expanded more so because people are drinking. Your vegetarian menu is seriously lacking. I was truly disappointed with Kickbutts food. But then again you are a coffee shop. On a positive note...I enjoyed comedy night. Customer service was great. read more

While on my drive home during Halloween time I was pondering where I could get a great latte at 10:45. I don't do starbucks, I have been there once and the whole language that is spoken there baffles me. So, remembering I just saw this place a couple of months before, not opened yet, and on the way to my house, I thought I'd chance it. I had a long night of costume making ahead of me so I thought I would take my chances with a mint mocha latte. I like mine not too hot, and more chocolate than most. yummy... They nailed it! i had read some of the reviews about this place and happened to be driving by with a friend so we decided to try it. it was not a pleasant experience. the milk/sugar station was pretty messy with spills and trash. i ordered a regular coffee (i always get a regular coffee) and it was so hot that i had to wait about half an hour before i could even drink it. (the jugs of milk were all empty...). my friend got one of the specialty coffees, but was unable to drink hers because the coffee to syrup ratio was so off. i would probably go back in a pinch, but would rather go somewhere else if given the option. read more

I don't usually mind waiting, cause I try and plan enough time to still make it to work at 8, but I think other people mind and I think the barista can get overwhelmed. read more

I recently visited Kick Butt for the first time and loved it! Their iced mocha was fabulous and probably one of the best I've had in town. The chocolate was great, and the coffee had a yummy nutty flavor to it. Their breakfast tacos and pizza were really tasty. The staff were super friendly and seemed to really enjoy working there. The atmosphere was fun with a photo of Chuck Norris on the wall. They had an article on the wall paying homage to the owner of Tamale House which was very cool. Can I leave less than one star? I just came back from this place on Airport where I ordered a regular large coffee. I like coffee. This was not coffee.. it tasted like ASS. I actually threw my full cup into the bin. Less than clean environment too. The creamers were mysteriously aol. The coffee makers seemed to be grundgy too... my coffee from McDonalds was better!.... and I don't like Micky D's coffee either, but at least it didn't taste like they hadn't cleaned the coffee maker in a month or so. I have visited the one at the Triangle too, and it was FILTHY! There were smears and crumbs all over the pastry case, and the coffee there was bitter and nasty too. Stale looking pastry in a case of crumbs, fingersmears and glops of something unidentifyable.... UCK! WHY... when you spend all this time and effort trying to create a 'cool atmosphere' with all the stupid kungfu junk strewn about, do you not spend just a little time managing your lazy employees, get them to CLEAN SOMETHING. Don't hire for poser hair, hire for a willingness to do a job! Never going back. I can't imagine why anyone would except that caffene is addictive and some people have no taste. read more

I don't usually write reviews, but feel compelled to entirely due to one super negative review that makes no sense. I go to the Airport location a lot as it's near my office and I have never had anything but great coffee from great baristas giving great service. The breakfast tacos and sandwiches are good as well. Can't speak to music, booze, and night time stuff as I go during the day only. I also work on my laptop there when I need to get out of the office to concentrate and not be interrupted. Yes, It's in a strip center. Kick Butt brings personality to the place--I am not entirely sure what a "22nd century WalMart" is supposed to look or feel like, but I'm pretty sure this isn't it. If Holly A is not willing to take Kick Butt up on that free lunch offer, I would be GLAD to go in her place. Ya hear that, Kick Butt? Totally up for a Return of the Dragon sammie.
