Came here after another food influencer posted about the new takeover of Saps. This place was super welcoming and since I never came to Saps not really sure what changed in this space. There was plenty of seating and the space is open and really beautifully decorated. When you step inside a host greets you promptly, as I waited for my friend I browsed through the menu which is pretty extensive. Once she arrived we proceeded to make our decisions and ordered a couple of items to share with each other. We got the Khon rolls with pork which were essentially egg rolls, the tamarind duck, and Pad Kee Mao with Chicken. The Khon's rolls were perfectly fried and the tamarind duck was well prepared on a bed of fried bean thread noodles with tempura eggplant, carrots, and broccoli. The Pad Kee Mao had a good heat but wasn't too "Thai" spicy for the amount of peppers on the menu. Service was super friendly, I'd definitely be back to try a bit more of the menu! read more

We come here at least once every three weeks as we love Thai food. But we normally do dinner. I am giving 4 stars only because of their lunch. The lunch was 13.00 and it was three times smaller than the dinner. I attached a photo. The egg roll gives a look of the size. And the size of egg roll is only 3 inches. So their lunch value is an absolutely no go as it's only 2.00 less from their dinner. I also ordered wings and I would advise against that the were sliced and the fried and when you split them apart the meat was like card board. But please try this place I would just say skip lunch as for some reason it's completely different at dinner but it should be known.. read more

food is so good. i had a very good experience before ordering through uber eats. my food took so long over 2 hours to get to me. i had called and she took so long to find my order asked for my name about 10 times. when she found my order she said didn't press ready. i called back asking if i could get a refund or some sort of gift card because uber eats support system lacks and this woman who is the manager starts being combative and then i told her she mentioned she didn't press ready i wasn't going to mention it but she started being rude and raising her voice. she then starts screaming at me over the phone and hangs up on me. if you're telling me you don't get money from uber eats then why are you doing business with uber eats? i totally support the local restaurants i could care less about uber eats. she could've given me a $15 gift card and i would be happy. so unprofessional for you to lose your cool and not take any accountability. anyways don't order though uber eats if u want the food from there they apparently don't get the money anyways. also don't be a manager if you can't handle someone who is RESPECTFULLY asking for a refund. read more

Had the Tom Yum seafood soup and the value was way over priced for what I got. Mostly mushrooms, had no imitation crab at all, total of four of each shrimp, mussels, squid. Just expected better, oh and it didn't come with rice. read more

Khon Thai is a winner. After the closure of Sap's alongside the decline in quality and service at Madam Mam's, I feared that North Central Austin was becoming a black hole for Thai food. Thankfully, this new restaurant has turned things around and is the best of the bunch. We've picked up takeout twice and not had a disappointing dish. The noodles are delicious, especially the pad see ew with tofu. One of my friends declared the pineapple fried rice the best they ever had. And the curries are flavorful and complex but definitely pack the heat, so be forewarned if you are spice-averse. Some folks have mentioned the higher price point. I'm willing to pay a few extra bucks if it means better quality ingredients and thoughtful preparation. So happy to add Khon into our dining rotation! read more

I really liked the satay here and their peanut sauce really stood out! Crispy pork belly was decent. The other dishes like drunken noodles and the curry were a bit too salty for my taste, but the flavors were good otherwise. My favorite here is definitely the satay. Great service, very attentive. Let's start with the food. Both entrees were salty. The Tom Kha was fine. We decided to not finish due to the salt, but we had eaten about half. When we tried to provide some feedback on the food, things went bad. We told the server that both entrees were salty. She seemed upset, but to be fair, we'd been trying to get her attention for at least 5 minutes. Shortly, another person came and said she couldn't offer a refund as we'd eaten a fair amount. We explained that we never asked for one, that we were providing feedback to them on our experience. She then began arguing saying that every dish is tasted before sending. Maybe a free dessert would satisfy us. We said no, that we didn't want dessert, we were ready to pay. She then said next time will be perfect. Then she said it was her fault and dinner was free. We said no, we'd eaten it, and we would pay. Then she said we were wrong, that it was not salty at all. We disagreed (and were really ready to leave by this time). She walked away. As we sat waiting for our check, she appeared with a piece of cake she "made herself" and guaranteed was not salty. Again, we didn't want any dessert. We waited, still no check, and the server and manager did not return. We were annoyed - they didn't listen, then they argued, then they gave us a piece of cake we never wanted. OK, so we left cash on the table to cover the meal and a modest tip and left. We will NOT be returning. read more

the yellow curry was very tasty but they forgot the potatoes and carrots or we got someone else's special order. the container was like 2/3 full. hard to rate without the veges sesame chicken was chewy and tough but the broccoli was perfect 2/5 the potsticker filling was yummy but the wrapper was over cooked 3/5 asked for 3/3 spicy on the curry and the chicken and the curry was super spicy which we liked (usually the max spice is never that spicy, so it was a good surprise). read more

Saw this new place pop up and gave it a try because the pictures looked interesting, but the menu actually didn't have photos and I didn't know what to order Tried the skewers and ribs which I generally don't get. The ribs were fried and quite sour, but my daughter loved them. Skewers were good and came with a nice portion of sticky rice. What I loved were the classic green curry and pad see ew, flavorful but not overpowering. Our pad see ew didn't come which could have been my own fault, but they were very gracious and provided us a free dessert which was lovely. Came here with a few friends to check out the new restaurant...influenced by foodie instagramer. The place turns out to be really good. As we talk to the waitress, we found out that we came before their grand opening. Maybe that's why it's not fully packed. The restaurant is pretty well decorated for date night and fill with unique wall paintings. The background music is pretty relaxing. We came with a party of 5 and wanted something like a family style. We ordered from their special menu and it definitely delivered. We ask what's their most popular dish and ordered the K5, Hanuman Transform, which was my favorite dish. My friend really like the Moo Ping. The only dish I found was ok was the K4 salmon dish. Overall, I'm excited for this new Thai restaurant. I feel like the food was pretty authentic. The price is a little bit more on the pricey side but the food was good. read more

Food was decent and server was nice. But they were lacking support as service was super slow. They also forgot a dish we ordered. We ordered the pork jowl which was big but also quite pricey. Parts of it we couldn't really eat because it was just too fat. The crab fried rice was good. Pad See Ew was just ok. I ordered shrimp pad thai as an entrée, and grilled prawn as an appetizer. I unfortunately, did not even get my prawn. They served my pad thai way early that, when I was almost done with the noodles, I still didn't even get a sight of the prawn dish. The waiter then checked the kitchen and let me know why it was taking so long, that they messed up the grilling once and then were trying again. At that point, I was already feeling full and let them know that I did not want it anymore. It was hard to believe that a restaurant could not keep up with the role of an appetizer- it should, ideally, be served before an entrée. I really enjoyed my first dinner here! For starters, I loved Saps (the Thai restaurant that used to be at this location), but the new owners did a great job updating the space and introducing a solid menu. Gone are the umbrellas hanging from the ceiling and the indoor water features, but in their place is clean, modern decor that feels almost upscale, as well as a nice outdoor seating area. I could see this being a great date spot. I thought the pad see ew with beef was quite good, and the prices are within the ballpark of what you'd expect from a restaurant with service in Austin in 2023 ($15-$20 an entree). The only issue my party of four had was that two dishes came out almost 15 minutes ahead of the remaining two - we would have enjoyed our dinner a bit more if we had been served together. read more

It's interesting how mixed the reviews are. I had taken a look beforehand but decided to try it and ordered Ga-Prao with ground chicken and squid and Sticky Rice mango from ubereats. It was okay, but I think for the price, there are definitely better places to go and for cheaper as well. The Ga-Prao was on the salty side and kinda flat.. lacking the colorful flavors I get from other Thai places. I agree with one of the other reviews that it definitely could have used more basil and the rice to meat ratio was off. I've enjoyed eating here a few times and find it to be a step up from the last two or three places that were in this location. The ambience is much better and the strange smell is gone. The wait staff has always been friendly and helpful. I've enjoyed the various vegetarian noodle dishes. I've had here. New Thai restaurant that just opened up in Allandale. Thought that the food was very authentic and on the sweeter side. The chicken satay was pretty amazing with the sweet peanut sauce and toast. Also had the Tom Yum soup (not pictured here), better than most restaurants here in Austin but thought it had too much tamarind paste or something because it was sweeter than what I was used to. For the main course, the pad Thai beef were portioned for Texans and was pretty good. Was hoping for more of the wok hei in the Pad Thai but didn't quite capture the smoky flavor. I typically get these standard items to taste test other Thai restaurants. Other than that thought the service was attentive and they have such a large space for a restaurant. Easily top 5 authentic and delicious Thai restaurant I've been to in the states. Food is on the pricier side, but I could care less because it's so dang delicious. Moo ping - skewers were tender and had a great balance of savory and sweetness. Pad see ew - flavor was amazing! I'm always skeptical about beef at Thai restaurants because it can be tough. I rolled the dice here and it was super tender! It's a big portion too. Tum tad - papaya salad with all it's anchovy glory. It's spicy but it's delicious. If you've had dishes with fish sauce/anchovy, don't skip out on it here. It makes the dish! Kua Kling Param - this dish is good, but to me, it's not a must get for your first time. Super solid thai spot! What i loved most about this spot was the spacious interior of the restaurant which gave it a really nice restaurant feel and ambiance, and the excellent service. A lady who was our server gave good recommendations and even ran out to get me when i left my hair clip which i really appreciated. I was scared of the spice levels here at first because of other thai restaurants i've tried in the past but it was really not that bad here. The pad ka prow was amazing- and even better with extra chilli crisps you can ask for. The egg was so crispy as well. The Massaman curry was a little too heavy on the flavor and too salty for my liking. The pad ka prow was heavy with the seasoning as well and I think from some other reviews they are pretty hefty with their sodium usage so beware of that.
