A cute place hidden on Yonge in mid town. The inside is decorated like a food street. Had the Shrimp Tandoori, Pan Fried King Fish, Fish Curry and Fresh Lime Soda. The shrimps (or prawns) were well seasoned, so did the king fish fillets. The green sauce made by mint was refreshing. Curry was yum too, it had coconut cream in it while mild spicy. What wowed me was their lemon soda. I've never had this kind of lime soda before - they added some green-colored Indian spice into it, the first taste was very funny, but then you'll love it. For folks who are not part of Indian ethnicity, this is highly recommended. The service was quite nice too. Would love to revisit sometime.

Good service and ambience. We ordered assorted platter for appetizers and everything was delicious(Paneer, mushroom, veggies). What stood out for me was their 'Lasooni Dhaniya Paneer' paired with naan. It was hands down the most flavorful curry I've tried in a long time outside of India. We liked their Biryani, light and flavorful. But if you like the spicy Hyderabadi style biryani, this ain't for you :)

I like the interior and decor of this place, the tapestries on the walls really add to the overall vibe of the indian cuisine. I was craving khichdi and I ordered the spinach one which was a delight! The service was pretty quick and lovely as well!

Went in to grab takeout. Thought this place must be fantastic with such high ratings and was surprised at the high prices (no bread or rice included with the +$20 butter chicken dish? What the...?) Ordered, paid - & gave a tip! - in advance, gave my name & phone number when requested so they could call me when my food was ready, and went out to walk around the neighborhood while I waited the promised 15-20 minutes for my call. +25 minutes later & no phone call, I walked back in and noticed a brown paper bag sitting behind the pay area. When I asked where my food was they grabbed the bag and said "Oh! We have just been really busy!" yet somehow they had 3 people standing there to give me my food. One even tried to pull out the payment machine even though I had already paid. The food was fine. It was not spectacular by any stretch and certainly was not worth the nearly $30 I paid for it. Portions were fine. The naan bread (which cost extra!) was not sufficient for the size of the dish. I dunno why everyone on here is raving about this place maybe it's a different experience when one goes and sits down at the restaurant but I know of way better, way more sensibly priced Indian places in the city than this one Meh not worth it

Friendly ... clean ... fairly priced and delicious food! A warm and caring feel for both the palate and the ambiance!

The first time I had heard of Khau Gully was through a BlogTO clip on Facebook where they hyped it up to oblivion, like they do with most "new" things in town. With plenty of south asian cuisine experience, I give the food a 4. Oh it tasted nothing like the karahi gosht you had in North India on your trip? Well... no two curries taste the same. South Asian cuisine is versatile, and there are MANY versions and adaptations to the tikka masalas and butter chickens we know and love. Khau Gully's broad menu targets mainstream Toronto, while serving up delicious and balanced curries in a very inviting, and cozy space. Typically I don't expect ambience walking into an Indian restaurant, and I try to get in an out quickly. But Khau Gully has put substantial effort into their space. The mural on the wall brilliant! The detail and intricacies in the artwork embodies the Indian culture beautifully. FOOD: I tried the Chicken Dum Biryani, which is cooked in a clay pot, with a dough cover. I asked for it to be medium spicy, and I think it was bang on. The Chicken Tikka Masala was also very good! Sometimes I find tikka masalas to be too sweet, but this one was just right. Also a couple of naans on the side and some raita - it was a delicious meal. By the way - the menu is full of vegetarian and vegan options! (Another reviewer mentioned grittiness... it's the style of the curry. Some people blend the spices really fine, and some do it partially. I personally prefer the latter. ) SERVICE: Better than any Indian restaurants I've been to, but not as great as your auntie's house. Although they did come and check on us 12 times to make sure everything was good. ;) They were well staffed, and everyone was very attentive and polite! For two people, $42 for dinner near Yonge and Eglinton... it's definitely fair. We were full, and even had some leftovers. Disclaimer: This is not your take out Indian joint... the portions are not huge, but they are fair! The prices may not be cheap, but they are definitely reasonable for the quality and location. The Indian restaurant business may seem saturated, but there's always something lacking (usually service). It's not perfect... but in my opinion Khau Gully strives to fulfill every major criteria on the list to be a solid Indian joint for the mainstream market.

Yaaaaay, a new, amazing and authentic Indian restaurant in the neighbourhood! I want to start from the service.. that was great! If you are not Indian or are not with Indian friends, don't worry! They will go over the menu with you and answer all your questions about their huge variety of meals! Staffs are helpful and kind. Chai is so good, just a little pricy for a little cup, but it comes in a cute clay cup tho! Hahaha We went in 6 people, then I got to try different dishes and it was nice, all with a good mix of spices.. some dishes were hot and some were mild, then there is dishes for everyone! My two favourite ones were: Mug siya mirch - the chicken was so tasty and melting in my mouth. Dhansak - the daal (with yellow lentils) was sooooo tasty and a bit spicy how I like + the lamb was so tender! Loooooved! For the desserts we got: - Gulab Jamun: I'm a gulab jamun lover, then it's complicated for me to talk much about it. I just love, and it was delicious. It comes 2 balls of it. - Green Pistachio Kulfi: Their Kulfi has a really good quality, but the problem with me is that I prefer the ones that are not too concentrated. Then I didn't like much. - Gajar Ka halwa: Sooooooo good and the portion is big! It really worth! HEY, YOU DO NEED TO TRY THEM OUT!

Definitely a winner in aesthetic. The atmosphere makes it a more fun and interesting restaurant to eat. Spacious and unique. Staff was helpful and friendly. We tried a couple different dishes. The kofta and a paneer dish. The food is not traditional but rather Indian inspired. Food comes out in a nice photo worthy manner. While neither dish knocked it out of the park, they were good. Tried the Masala chai which comes in an earthy type of cup. It was made to standard which is a little sweet for me. The best was by far the rotis and naans were ordered, garlic, misdi, methi. All excellent. Prices are around standard for proper Indian restaurant food. There are high chairs available. I do recommend if you are in the neighbourhood and looking for Indian food.

Lamb curry in a tomato base was good. Cauliflower on spinach base also enjoyable. The paneer, a cheese, was heavy. Rice was enjoyable.

Indian restaurants are very much hit or miss. Many lack sanitary conditions. Others believe Canadians want ketchupy tomato paste instead of Indian food. A few are authentic and do it right. Ambiyan is of that ilk. I was skeptical when I found the inset restaurant and walked towards it. The location does not scream 'authenticity.' There is a patio that looks more like a ice cream parlour's (the location has apparently been every other type of restaurant imaginable previously) and there is one of those Korean 'sushi' places across them where people go to eat 'bento' with spicy bazooka bomb salmon rolls or whatever. Ambiyan was a pleasant surprise and my friend was right. The setting was nice, the waitress and two waiters were polite, patient and nice and the food felt authentic. Not only the samosa, steamed rice and lamb briyani were tasty, rich and had perfect texture, the restaurant did not skimp on quantity, meat or presentation. Everything, including the chutney, tasted just right. If I have to level any criticism then the washroom needs an upgrade and the kitchen looked slightly run down as I walked by to visit the washroom, but Ambiyan (is the name inspired by a pill or something?) is firmly on my re-visit list.
