Lamb roti and meat thali with butter chicken and tikka masala
    Elaine W.

More of a take out restaurant with a few tables, the experience was not what we expected. We decided to eat in and half of our food was on a plate and the other half in a takeout container. The lamb roti was quite good but the platter I got had some food in it that was not quite warm and was overall a bit disappointing. The tables and seating areas could also been a bit cleaner as the tables and floors were a bit sticky. Otherwise the service was good. It is self serve so we ordered and got our own tray and water. Price wise, I would say it's average to a bit pricy for what it is but still a comparatively cheap meal in Toronto.

Colaba Junction captures a small part of my heart that always earns for Indian street food. Toronto needs more South Asian street culture since the Little India strip on Gerrard street has seen a major decline in storefronts in the last decade. Came here on a weekend with a buddy because we really wanted some Indian chai. Ended up ordering a whole bunch of snacks like the Dahi Puri, Pani Puri and Lamb Curry Roti. The Puri dishes were fantastic, the Dahi was just the right amount of sweetness and the chutney sauces were mild but still had some heat. The lamb was my favourite dish and flavoured just right in the North Indian style of cooking. The restaurant itself is very neat and cozy with modern decor but still gives off the Mumbai cafe / bistro vibe. The service was excellent and the staff even gave us a starters guide to ordering. The prices are reflective of downtown but you can certainly get cheaper if you venture into the suburbs. Don't leave without having some classic Indian chai!

Read the good reviews and decided I should give it a try. It's a lot of food for lunch. Got their vegetarian thali. Rice was good (yes rice can be bad too) Naan was ok,acceptable. I don't think it's homemade. I don't think they have a tandoor oven there. Food had a light kick but the Chili pickle was there if you wanted more zing. The rest was decent. My favourite was the paneer dish, I liked the sauce for my naan. It's light in that they don't add much cream, if any to their dishes. Is it my fave? Nope. But it cured the Indian craving ? Yup...

I like their street food very much when you compare to any other Indian place.. especially their Bhel Puri as well as Samosa Chaat Not to forget - the Interiors are amazing!

Chicken tikka masala... Average, you could definitely find better, more authentic Indian food relatively nearby. Plus very expensive, 15 bucks for a roti, average roti. 4 hrs later, tremendous after taste, too salty.

We specially went at this place to try Indian Chaat items. Vada pav, Samosa chaat and Dahi Puri were top notch , whereas we weren't inpressed with Misal Pav as it tasted a little blend. Also, was disappointed to know Indian Cola (Thumbs up) was not available during our visit. Ambience was decent - Punjabi music played in background and interiors would give an Indian vibe. Also, you'll experience strong aroma of spices within the air. We will definitely visit again to try the Thali! PS - Do not miss the Vada Pav.

I asked them to write down what's in the thali :)

This place is a hidden gem. The two of us ordered pani puri and veggie thali. I'm not an expert of Indian food, but I've had my fair share of Indian food in little India and Brampton. Personally I think this place has the best thali in downtown. This place was recommended by an Indian foodie friend, which also proofs something. People working here were so friendly and attentive. They didn't talk too much but were observant. As soon as they saw us sharing the thali, they brought individual paper plates for us. Will definitely come back here.

Walked in and immediately smelled the aroma spices... they're quite strong but you get used to it sitting in there. Please open a window maybe ? They have a remixes of English and Indian music which was great and reflects their take on the dishes. The washrooms were clean but not well-lit. The garbage was overflowing however. I ordered the Veggie Thali. Beautiful presentation although I asked for spicy and they put a bunch of green chillies on each of the veggie dishes. This comes with rice and 4 pieces of naan bread. The rice seemed to ruin the experience. I would have been happy had they just given me naan alone - and more than 4 prices which was NOT enough. I asked for more and they brought me HOT FRESH naan bread - so delish!! Your hands get pretty dirty so it would be great if they had those hand wipe alcohol swab things. So they don't tell you how to eat this but in case you aren't sure: start from the left and work your way to the right: 1. Chana (chickpeas) 2. Daal (lentils curry) which is to be used with the second last one being Achar (south Asian marinated pickles) 3. Paneer curry (cheese in curry) 4. Saag Paneer (Spinach and cheese curry) 5. Next is the Raita which is used for your rice 6. Then the achar as previously mentioned 7. The last dish is your Gulab Jamun - your dessert. All in all, a great experience. I went around 2 or 3 on a Wednesday so it wasn't busy at all and I got decent service!

I've visited twice with a gap of a month. I feel some dishes are a hit and some are a miss. I tried the pani puri, colaba chaat and chicken kathi roll. Although the dishes are pure street food specialities, they miss the mark with taste authenticity. The chaat is the best among all three dishes I've tried. There is a medley of bollywood music being played. The place is nicely decorated and always clean. I will be going back to try more dishes to see if it deserves more stars. :)

Popped in on a quiet evening. We were the only customers in the whole place for the time we were there, which was just before closing on a Tuesday night. We ordered Pani Puri, White Butter Chicken and the Meat Thali. Although we were the only people in the restaurant, the staff forgot to bring out parts of our order (such as the tea my partner ordered). Still they were friendly. I found their twist on the pani puris to be a little odd. The appetizer comes with three shots of different types of juice ("pani') that you pour into the puris. The serve yourself wasn't odd as much as the flavouring of the juice. The mains are significant in portion. I've never had white butter chicken before, but I found it to be underwhelming in taste. A super filling, but mediocre dish. My partner had the Meat Thali. He seemed to enjoy most of the dishes on his thali. Overall, this place felt more gimmicky than authentic. The decor was fun, the service was friendly if not spot on, but the food was just okay in my books.

This was a planned visit with a reservation made in advance. First of the menu pics that were posted online are misleading as the menu has changed a lot (lack of a website didn't help either) We ordered a few items a few I got to try so will comment on those only Jhakas Ghost: Comes with rice but I substituted it for nan. Very good IMO with spice not held back. Nice tender meat and fortunately there wasn't any smell of the lamb meat so that's another plus Chicken Tikka meat ball: Disaster IMO a cross between Italian meatballs and butter chicken anyone. I tried it a bit and couldn't even finish that. Most of it was left untouched. Chicken Tikka Skewers: Cold and dry. The paratha that accompanied it was very good and I would even go as far as ordering it on its own. Veg Thali: Didn't try but was liked by the person ordering it Colaba chat: Didn't try but was well like by the person ordering it Mango Lassi: apparently run of the mill stuff again Godiva Samosa: A puzzling dessert as it said rabdi (which I didn't find at all) Funny thing is I have had a similar dessert elsewhere (maybe an empanada with a truffle inside) anyway not a good option and I would skip. Service was great so half star bump. No LLBO yet either. I think I will come back to try other items as there is a dearth of half decent food in this area. 3.5 Stars all said and done

A three star experience that has potential to go up if a few things get tightened up over there. First, the menu is not easy to understand if you aren't familiar with Some of the culinary terms. A more general-laymen-friendly menu would do them good, or they should be more friendly themselves, because we were clearly confused and asked for information and received not very much help. I got the Kati roll w paneer. It was hot and tasty but a bit boring. Can Indian food even be boring? Something was missing (and not just because I asked for no cilantro...) my boyfriend got the $18 (yes. Actually) meat plate but a lot of it was cold or lukewarm which is so disappointing. Naan was great. I liked the subtle flavours to the rice. So they do carbs great and the rest needs work. Super close to my home so I will be back most likely but a pretty bland introduction.

Coconut fries! It is perfectly seasoned, sprinkled with coconut and served with chutneys. LOVE

They gave us a whole garlic naan as it is uncut in the foil and that was very impressive! Really cool that they did that cuz most restaurants just cut it up and give it to you if you want it to go. Naan itself was very fresh and flavorful. They didn't really put any butter on top which was quite nice. So just a classic lovely garlic naan. Dahi Kebab appetizer - so yum! It was really flavorful on its own, and with that mint chutney it was even better! Husband loved the Malai Kofta ! Curry was properly creamy and even the koftas themselves were good. I needed it a little spicy so added a bit of spice to it and it was perfect. They also had a promotion going on for free samosas with an order of $50 or more. So they gave us four samosas on the house! So nice of them. Husband definitely enjoyed these.

The curry that came with the fish was delicious, however, the type of fish they used had so many bones and it was impossible to figure out under the thick orange sauce if what you were putting in your mouth was all bone or fish. It made for a very unpleasant eating experience for a person use to eating fresh fish. Worth a try but won't be back

Midway through the painfully slow setup process, the entire store started filling with the scent of something glorious. Rich spices, buttery warmth... it was the kind of smell that stops conversations. Everyone working there was Indian, and they were all clearly just trying to wrap up my account so they could dig into whatever just got delivered. I had to ask--where's that food from? "Kothur," they said, almost in unison. That was the recommendation, and it stuck with me. I walked by the place once. The exterior didn't scream "hidden gem." Thought about ordering delivery a few times but never followed through. Life, you know? Today, I finally went. From the outside, still nothing to write home about. But walk in, and it's a different story. Clean, cozy, and exactly the kind of no-fuss Indian spot you'd expect to stumble upon in the heart of a big city. The food? Solid. Spices landed right. Everything was warm, comforting, and satisfying. It's not trying to reinvent Indian cuisine--it's just doing it well. If you ever find yourself sniffing the air near a phone shop and wondering what that divine smell is--it might just be Kothur. TL;DR Not flashy. Surprisingly good. Smelled it before I tasted it. Unfortunately, lots of places in Toronto who make promises of serving biryani teleport you to hell. My friends and family are lifelong fans of biryani. Of all the places Biryaniwalla is highly recommended and I have usually had it at get-togethers. This time though I decided to visit the place and order a take out personally. Located a few meters away from Bathurst station , the restaurant stands amongst other Asian eataries. Upon entering, we were greeted warmly by Ankita at the reception. We asked her for recommendations and she patiently explained us the options and advised 2 biryanis based on our spice tolerance and preferences. Taking her advice, we ordered: - Chicken Kaju Ghee Roast Bucket with double Masala for $43 ($39.99 for Biryani and Double masala pay $2.99 extra). - Palnadu Chicken Biryani ( $18.99) Ambience wise, the place is pretty chill with neatly lined tables for family and the huge Biryaniwalla Logo adorning the big wall. There was also a spin the wheel game, which you can play if you place a google review. While we waited for our order, the shop was quite busy with mobile food delivery orders. After about 10 minutes, we got our order and took it home. Chicken Kaju Ghee Roast Bucket: This is possibly their bestselling biryani. And I have to confess, I have tried it before and I absolutely love it. It is a delicious biryani , with nice moist chicken pieces, cashews and which is not too overpowering with spices. We ordered double masala because my better half likes it that way. The quantity for bucket was huge and can easily satify 3-4 people. Chicken Palnadu Biryani: Compared to Kaju Ghee Roast, this one is more tangy and a bit on the spicier side. It is a slight Achari taste and it was surprisingly delicious. Also, you get Salan (spicy-tangy gravy) and Raita (yoghurt mixture) with the biryanis, and they go quite well with the biryani. However, i somehow still felt the biryanis lack that authentic taste of biryani that you get in India and Pakistan. Real authentic biryanis have the inherent smoky flavor which comes from coal which is used to cook biryani and to give Biryani the dum ( pots are sealed and cooked over slow heat with coal - at bottom and at top.) Also missed that Birista that usually accompany Biryani layers. That being said, these are quite good biryanis. To foodies: Possibly the best biryani restaurant is toronto, that gets it as close to the authentic taste. The biryanis are delicious and they have lot of other options including seafood biryani. The quantities are huge and you and your loved ones will truly enjoy To management: Great biryanis. Great service by Ankita. Would love if you guys can sprinkle some birista ( fried onions) at the top layer or provide it on the side. Also it would be great if you can provide some incentive for customers who order directly from store. I knew you once had 10%.off , which when I asked was told it's still on but you need the offer card. I was a bit let down by that because at the end, it's just a formality. Also spin the wheel if you place a google review is a cheap tactic to get reviews. Just do it as a fun activity guys. Creates goodwill. As a brand strategist , I always recommend customer experience over a few dollars Overall this is a great place for biryanis. I definitely recommend it.
