Ordered online and picked up. They have a free parking lot! Yessss! Good portions. Food was SO good. If you are not good with spicy food, this is not for you. Even items that said the spice level was low were a little hotter than I'd like. If you like spice, this is the place for you!! So much flavour, not just hot. read more

Charminar posed a question; Biryani vs Pulao. My choice was obviously Biryani. The layers of rice and meat with all those spices is just heavenly. I went with a portion of Gongura Chicken Biryani. There was a lot of food packed into my take out container. I inhaled a plate before work, packed some in another container for my work lunch and even left some for Mr.Keris.Kitchen to have when he gets home. It's just so flavorful! This location is so cute, easily accessible and has lots of options to choose from. read more

I have never dined in but take-out is excellent. You can order online with ease and collect points. I recommend the shahi paneer and Malai kofta. Both vegetarian and delicious. They're very generous with their sauces so I recommend to order rice or naan to sop up all the goodness. The restaurant is cosy and may be busy on weekends. read more

I have not dined in, only done takeout. The portion sizes and the spice levels are perfect. I really like their mutton biryani and their appetizers. Definitely will recommend this place. read more

I love Indian food so when I was invited to join some friends for dinner, I didn't hesitate to say YES! Charminar is a relatively new restaurant in Whitby, serving South Indian cuisine. I was surprised to see they also had some Hakka Chinese dishes on the menu. Everything looked good but a couple of my dining companions had eaten here before so I left the ordering up to them. We started off with some beverages: Sweet Lassi, Mango Lassi, and Salt Lassi. Lassi is a yogurt based drink, with some similarities to a milkshake. We also had Thums Up cola and Limca, I opted for a can of Limca, similar to Sprite but with a more intense flavour. Apparently, the company that makes the lattter two is owned by Coca-Cola. Our food started arriving and it looked delicious and smelled great! We had a good mix of dishes, including the Hyperabadi Chicken Dum Biryani, Hakka Noodles with Chicken, Chicken Lollipops, Tandoori Chicken, and Gobi Manchurian, Bhagara Bhaigan (Eggplant), Gongura Chicken, Rice, and Mysore Masala Dosa. I didn't realize until now that it was mostly chicken but each dish tasted unique and quite delicious! I love biryanis but the Hyperabadi Chicken Dum Biryani was on another level. From the fluffiness of the rice to the savoury flavour of the chicken, excellent dish! The Hakka Noodles with Chicken appeared unfamiliar to me, even though I'm Hakka. I guess things took a little turn in India. That's not a bad thing. It was delicious! Apparently, I missed out on the Chicken Lollipops. It must have been really good because by the time the platter made its way over to me, it was all gone! The Tandoori Chicken, unlike most I've had, was tender and moist. Another great tasting dish! The Gobi Manchurian, battered and deep fried, was very flavourful. I didn't even realize at first that it was cauliflower. Delicious! I'm not a fan of eggplant but the Bhagara Bhaigan was a very colourful dish that my companions seemed to enjoy. Gongura Chicken was a saucy dish with lots of flavour, made with gongura leaves, imparting a savoury tart flavour. Yummy! The Mysore Masala Dosa was probably the most unique dish that we had. It's not available at many restaurants that I've been to and this was only my second time having it. It was certainly the largest platter of the evening, consisting of a very thin rolled dough, very similar to a crepe. This one had a potato filling and was served with some dipping sauces. Very good! Of course, we had three types of naan, all freshly made and delicious! Overall, I really enjoyed this food! It was very flavourful. I'm sure my companions enjoyed it too because there was nothing left. NOTHING! By the time we were leaving, the restaurant was getting busy. Tables were starting to fill in and people were coming in to pick up orders for takeout. Good timing on our part. I'll be back! read more

ghastly food.naans were cold and wet.chole is canned channa.horrible taste. gongura chicken barely any spice.

Great Indian food, probably the best I've had in the Durham area. Lots of different flavours, which is great compared to other Indian restaurants where everything tends to taste the same. Chilli chicken was excellent, really enjoyed the lamb vindaloo, butter chicken was very good, rice was nice and fluffy, naan and dal also good. Large portions, great quality, friendly service. Overall a great experience, thanx! read more

We ordered from this restaurant for the first time tonight. We got takeout, (in light of the virus situation), and are definitely going to be going back! First of all, they offered a free vegetarian curry meal for healthcare workers, which was so kind and so delicious! We ordered extra food to complement this curry. Everything was incredibly delicious and flavourful. I have had quite a few samosas in my life, and I have to say that these samosas were the best I've had! The dal was fantastic, this chicken dish was spicy. And did I mention how fantastic the samosas were?! And the garlic naan... delicious! Thank you for the thoughtful free meal for this healthcare worker who is exhausted after a long week! And thank you for a delicious dinner! read more

Hi I have ordered a chicken starter dish and a Hakka Chicken Noodles. The chicken dish was too tangy. You are using AJINOMOTO MSG monosodium glutamate to increase the taste which is totally an unhealthy practice. Lost my appetite after eating it. The Hakka Chicken noodles literally tasted like garbage. When they don't know how to make a Hakka Noodles dish why should they fool the customers by having it on their menu. Moreover the WATER JUG served to our table has a TISSUE PAPER in it. This is DISGUSTING and the HYGENIE of the restaurant itself is QUESTIONABLE. Not at all worth going and FORGET about trying it. read more

I'm a vegetarian and have been looking for a decent veg biryani for a long time in GTA. I got the vegetable dum biryani and it was the best biryani I've had in a while. Most restaurants here sell fried rice and pulao for biryani. They have multiple veg biryani options too. read more

They have pathetic food handling of veg /non-veg section. We ordered Paneer Biryani from Pickering Charminar thinking it would be good but when unboxing it I found suspected non veg pieces in it. When I called them they said they have different sections for both but how can it happen if it is so. Not gonna order ever from them. It's not even few days that they are here and this is what they serve us. @charminarpickering- how do you ensure it doesn't happen in future? read more

We decided to visit after seeing such good reviews, but honestly regret it. We had to wait for almost 20 mins as employees stood at the front, seating ourselves without even a hello, and we heard them watching TV very loudly in the back as well (which continued on for a while). It definitely felt as if they didn't really care. The food was definitely a saving grace though. The butter chicken and shahi paneer were very good, and the naan was better than most. If you're not worried about time or ambiance, and just looking for some good food, I would come back. read more

This place makes me so happy. I haven't dined there but I get takeouts regularly. I used to have a favourite meal (vindaloo) until Charminar's Kadai Lamb blew my taste buds away. Today we had the butter chicken and the lamb vindaloo...so fragrant and delicious with a taste to make the grumpiest person smile. Do yourselves a favour: eat here. read more

My wife and a friend of ours and I ate here this evening. We found it on a whim and we were wowed! From the Paneer Majestic appetizer to the Tomato Kaju Curry (something I sadly never knew existed until now!) to the Chicken Tikka Masala to the Hakka Chicken Noodles to the side of Raita, it was all fantastic!!! Crazy delicious and the service was prompt and courteous. I highly recommend!!! We live in Toronto, but we will definitely be back! read more

We ordered the veg dum biryani and Gobi manchurian from here. The Gobi Manchurian was very flavourful. The biryani was good, but it lacked strong spice flavour I've come to expect from a dum biryani. The salan accompanying the biryani was delicious! Hoping to try more of their offerings in the future. read more

BURLINGTON LOCATION...Went there yesterday. For the most part the food was good but the rice and chicken was dry. Staff "seemed friendly" until it was time to pay and they charged us $39 in a tip and When we brought it up to them they explained it was because we are a big family....... excuse me... big family... my husband and my 4 kids...... a baby... 2 little girls and 1 teenager. Were we hard to serve. we cleaned our own table before we left and organised all our plates for them neatly. I have never been to a restaurant that charges me on the size of my family...is this some sort of joke?!?!?!?!?! I have ate Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese, Greek, Canadian of all kinds, Arabic of all kinds and more and I finally want to go to this place because I was told it was good and well....not so much. They asked for a review and here it is. We called back to explain what they did and they over charged us and they were rude and made excuses galore and just to say there was nothing they could do. very rude, crooks, scammers whatever you want to call it. NO WHERE that I have eaten charged me because of the size of my family. Are you kidding me?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!!!! Very disappointing. I wont be telling anyone about them unless it's to tell them not to go. They should be ashamed!!!!!!!! read more
