This restaurant came highly recommended and with exceptional reviews, so perhaps my expectations were a tad high going in. We found ourselves a window seat (with a lovely view of the construction haha) after entering on a weekend afternoon; the place was very quiet and the space was quite large, making it fairly comfortable to hold a conversation. The lengthy menu, including a wide variety of vegetarian dishes, had us waffling between several choices, but ultimately decided on the stir fried okra and a paneer curry. The flavour profile of the bhindi masala was amazing, tangy and delicious without being overpoweringly spicy or salty. My friend, who often enjoys Indian food, offered great reviews of her paneer dish, which was creamy and rich. I do have to say that the portion sizes appeared to be on the slightly small side, especially when considering the prices. Also, even with current inflation levels, charging over $5 for a bowl of rice and almost $5 for simple naan should be pretty much criminal for a restaurant in an area that's not downtown. Service was good and many of the other menu options look interesting, so I can see myself ordering from here again - only this time will be takeout, and I'll cook my own rice.

Great food, portions and service. Good bang for your buck. Super friendly staff. Will definitely be returning!

Great food and service. One of the best Indian food in town. They spent time to explain the menu in details. The girl worked there recommended her favorite dish, and helped us taking nice photos - multiple ones from the best angle! No problem with the bill as well. We were a group of four and they remember exactly whom ordered what and prepared the bill accordingly. Will definitely go back.

From top to bottom: veggie korma, paneer butter masala, lamb madras

When I came I got the Gluten Free combo for 2. My boyfriend and I are not gluten free but it seemed like a good amount of food for the two of us. The combo is $50.95 and comes with onion pakoras, one non-veg curry, two veg curries and two rices. The onion pakoras were presented beautifully. They had some potatoes in them and were quite crispy and tasty. We selected the Lamb Madras, butter paneer, and vegetable korma as our curries. The curries and rice came in fairly large servings - in fact, I think the combo for two would be enough for 3 people. All of the curries were delicious and fragrant. I like how they were presented as well, with some garnish on top which made it look extra appetizing. Overall the meal was incredibly delicious and we had lots of leftover so I think the value is great as well. I will definitely be back!

Chickpea amuse bouche

Our Server was friendly who explained where the dishes originated from and why different spices were used based on the regions and their weather. We ordered Dinner for 2, which included an amuse bouche, combo of samosa and pakora (you can choose just one type or a mixture), 2 meats and 1 vegetarian dish, 1 plain rice, 2 plain naans + dessert. We upgraded our naan to garlic naan. Lamb roganjosh was flavorful with a nice kick of spice to it. Butter chicken was creamy. It was so nice to eat freshly baked garlic naan again after all the soggy naan from Covid take out. Everything tasted great with attentive service. Only drawback was that the appetizer was smaller than I imagined with only 1 piece of pakora and 1 piece of samosa to share. Other than that I thought it was an enjoyable meal. I feel bad for the restaurant because of the construction outside never seems to finish after 10+ years. We look forward to returning to support them!

AAFRIEN ~ Authentic North Indian Cuisine! . Must go if you like classic North Indian dishes like Dal Makhani, Tandoori Chicken, Malai Kofta! We loved everything about the place from food to service to ambience! . Met the most humble Owner as well as the Manager! Hospitality at its best. Do meet them if you get a chance . The restaurant is known for serving high quality Tandoori starters as well as mouth watering Indian delicacies. . Got take out with my friends here! We got a veggie biryani, chicken biryani, butter chicken and lamb tikki masala to share! Really enjoyed the biryani and both curries. I thought the biryani was super flavourful and savory. The curries when really well with the biryani, however the butter chicken was a bit too salty at times. Overall would recommend this place if you are craving Indian food :)

Amazing Indian restaurant! It's no wonder they opened during the pandemic; they have all the confidence that their food is great, and it shows. Their samosas are made fresh, which is a rarity in this city. They were delicious and absolutely massive, and my number one recommendation for Aafrien. Their chicken biryani was also good. I liked how they included four different sauces on the side, so you can have different flavours with each spoonful of biryani. My personal favourite was the sweet brown sauce. If I order biryani again, I'll be sure to ask for extra of that. I have also tried some of their other menu items such as their curries and cauliflower appetizer, and my conclusion is you can't wrong with anything you pick. Their menu is full of great food.

Dahi batata chaat

Really good quality food that was filling. Everything looked so appetising. Wish they had dahi poori chaat instead but dahi batata chaat was also good. Naan & paneer butter masala and chicken biriyani (not pictured) was delicious

Tried their butter chicken, dal makhani, palak paneer, butter naan and rice. This is what I usually order at Indian restaurants. The butter chicken was okay. It tasted like butter chicken I have had at other restaurants and didn't have a memorable flavour. It was creamy and had a sweet taste. So far I have had only one restaurant in Toronto that makes it the way I prefer but I haven't tried them all yet. I like it when I can see pockets of ghee in the butter chicken gravy. This one was not it. The dal and palak paneer were really good. The palak paneer had a very distinct flavor which was interesting. The dal was creamy. Except for the butter chicken the dishes are a bit spicy. Though it is subjective it is still worth mentioning as some people don't like spicy food or have a low tolerance to it. Service was good when I was there.

Chicken 65, Lamb Biryani Gulab jamun

I couldn't ask for anything better than the best birthday experience l just had at Aafrien. The food was out of this world, chicken 65 was finger licking and lamb Biryani yummy and flavourful. We actually called to speak to the very young and enterprising chef who made you feel like heaven on your plate. Daval who seated and took orders was fantastic at customer service and the manager too very welcoming. This was our first visit can't wait to get back soon.

Find it difficult using the app and this restaurant will not take orders over the phone so I use someone else who does.

Everyone enjoyed the meal. Our only take would be that the Fried Vegetable Bites/Balls were supposed to be delivered with the sauce separate on the side - this was not the case, and the tray was all soggy and mushed :( Hopefully next time we can get the bites crunchy! Paneer E Khaas - cottage cheese with a delicious savory spinach gravy! Mmm, that green sauce soooo good - YOU gotta try this one! Veggie Diwani Handi - a beautifully spiced curried assortment of cauliflower, green peas, potatoes, baby corn - and more! It's a definite favorite for the entire crowd! Vegetable Samosas - delivered crispy with a TRIO SAUCE DIP OTS! How awesome is that!? Buttered Naan - great chew, slightly charred, oh so buttery - don't you dare skip this one! You need them for all the sauceeeeee to dip! Speaking of sauce and needs - BIRYANI (rice) with vegetables! The way they craft this dish is so delicious- packed with flavours and spices. Be sure to give it a good mix before you serve! Chicken Tikka Masala - marinated & grilled - smothered in a creamy tomato based curry. All the trays were so carefully wrapped, packaged, and delivered - I AM TELLING YOU - NOTHING SPILLED (BOTH TIMES WE HAVE ORDERED - look at the pictures)! Teams are friendly and so attentive to your catering needs. Thank you for another delicious catering Khau Gully Team!

This was a good experience and we enjoyed our visit. A…read morefriend and I were planning to meet and catch up and he suggested Ambiyan, which is a secondary location of a Markham restaurant. Indian restaurants are very much hit or miss. Many lack sanitary conditions. Others believe Canadians want ketchupy tomato paste instead of Indian food. A few are authentic and do it right. Ambiyan is of that ilk. I was skeptical when I found the inset restaurant and walked towards it. The location does not scream 'authenticity.' There is a patio that looks more like a ice cream parlour's (the location has apparently been every other type of restaurant imaginable previously) and there is one of those Korean 'sushi' places across them where people go to eat 'bento' with spicy bazooka bomb salmon rolls or whatever. Ambiyan was a pleasant surprise and my friend was right. The setting was nice, the waitress and two waiters were polite, patient and nice and the food felt authentic. Not only the samosa, steamed rice and lamb briyani were tasty, rich and had perfect texture, the restaurant did not skimp on quantity, meat or presentation. Everything, including the chutney, tasted just right. If I have to level any criticism then the washroom needs an upgrade and the kitchen looked slightly run down as I walked by to visit the washroom, but Ambiyan (is the name inspired by a pill or something?) is firmly on my re-visit list.
