Stopped in for lunch on a Friday. Waited in a short line. Very friendly service and the food was ready pretty quick. Amazing ribs that were soft but still had a bit of chew to them. The mac & cheese is so different and interesting. We loved it. Would definitely recommend. Parking is a bit weird here and all the seating is outside, so be prepared for that but definitely go anyways!
As a Middle Eastern who loves BBQ, I had to try KGBBQ while I was in Texas. It definitely did not disappoint! I got the rice and lamb chops, and they were SO good. The lamb was cooked perfectly and had so much flavor. But that chimichurri... SO good! It went perfectly with everything. Definitely one of those spots I'm glad I tried while visiting Texas. If you love BBQ and bold flavors, you have to check this place out!
ABSOLUTE BANGER OF TX BBQ! Here's why: Arrived at 11:05AM to beat any possibility of a crowd; still wasn't the first customer, but definitely in the TOP 5. For my order, I got an order of the Za'atar & Pomegranate Glazed Pork Ribs ($17), 1 Lamb Chop ($9.50), and an Egyptian Mac n' Cheese (made COWBOY - added smoked brisket) ($15). Total came to $41.50. First of all, the space is spacious! There are two areas for eating outside --- and although I never went "inside", I did see a building with people going in-and-out of, I assume that's part of the establishment as well? A good amount of fans to keep you comfortable during your stay which is a nice touch. Let's go to the food: I had to give the mac n' cheese the first try --- I've been disappointed too many times before. LOVED IT! First of all, KG BBQ use shells for their mac, and it's not just "queso" --- its seasoned, has some tomato in it, and when it's made "Egyptian" --- you add that beautiful amount of brisket and sauce which just enhance the whole dish. The ribs were also phenomenal. They were fall off the bone tender, but not fragile in any way. The marinade was amazing, and topped with pieces of pomegranate and served with some spiced onions, it's the COMPLEXITY. Often times with TEXAS BBQ, it gets heavy quick. Having these contrasting yet complimentary flavors just makes you want to eat more! It's a complete sensory experience, visually, smell, and taste. The famous lamb chop was also amazing, and served with a little herb concoction on the side that is again --- needed --- to cut through the richness of the meat and fattiness. I've heard some complaints from food bloggers which is valid: there is a good amount of fat on each of these chops, so you better SAVOR the meat on that chop! It'll be done in a few bites! Only feedback? Food temp. It wasn't cold, but it wasn't hot either. In any case, I was thoroughly pleased by KG BBQ and you should definitely pay a visit!
We were on the hunt for the best barbecue in Austin and heard wonderful reviews about KG BBQ. When we arrived at the address, the sign for KG BBQ wasn't immediately visible. We parked and headed toward the food truck, and it turned out to be a fantastic find! Today, we tried the lamb chops, pomegranate pork ribs, salad, and cardamom pistachio rice pudding. The lamb chops were a bit mild in flavor, but the pomegranate pork ribs exploded with taste, definitely surpassing Stiles Swirch. The salad was a bit salty and looked like it was prepared the day before. However, the highlight was the cardamom pistachio rice pudding--I could enjoy that all day long!
KG BBQ is located in a food park area next to a bar/restaurant. Parking can be a bit difficult as most places in Austin TX. You walk up to a food trailer and wait in line to order. Place your order, pay and they give you a pager that will light up and buzz when your order is ready. The brisket was good as was the sausage but the lamb chops were the best. Go and give it a try.
Came here at 1 PM on a Friday for lunch. Put our order in at the truck and sat down in the outdoor seating area, the food came out a few minutes later. The sumac & cinnamon lamb shoulder was fantastic, the two spices worked quite well together and the lamb was rich. The oum ali (Egyptian bread pudding) was great as well, the hazelnuts and golden raisins added a nice texture to the bread pudding, definitely recommend checking this place out!
Overall: 4.5/5 [dine in] We placed an online order for pickup on a Saturday and the earliest available time was 2 hours out. A couple of things to note: they charge a 10% online order service charge and a 3% credit card surcharge. When I got to the pickup window they asked if I wanted the food to go or dine in, and we chose to dine in so we could eat it fresh. They had to go containers available at the truck if you needed them. The portions looked small but were actually pretty filling. 1/2 lb Pomegranate and Za'atar Glazed Pork Ribs ($17): Came with 2 ribs that were okay. They were a little dry and lacking flavor on their own but tasted much better dipped in the pomegranate barbecue sauce. Combo Rice Bowl ($20): Came with mediterranean yellow rice, baladi salad, sauce, protein, cinnamon candied nuts, and pomegranate seeds. For the combo, you get to choose 2 proteins. I went with brisket and kofta (ground beef and lamb). Both were really good but a tad salty so the baladi salad helped balance that out. Egyptian Cowboy ($15): I chose lamb for this and it was the star of the show. The pulled lamb shoulder was incredibly tender and flavorful. The smoked mac and cheese was really good too but the rich bechamel was a bit much for us. The sumac pickled onions helped balance out the heaviness of both the mac and cheese and the lamb shoulder. Cardamom Pistachio Rice Pudding ($9.50): Pricey for rice pudding but I wanted to try the unique flavor. It was light but the cardamom flavor was strong. Interesting to try once but I wouldn't order it again.
Earlier this month, I arrived at KG BBQ early when there was no line and ordered the Lamb Bowl, Mediterranean rice, pulled lamb shoulder, baladi salad, (classic Texas buttermilk with roasted beet puree, fresh dill, jalapenos, and celery), tahini, candied nuts and pomegranate seeds and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Also, I was able to have a little chat with KG and I told him about my dissatisfaction with the Lamb Chop as it was a little too rare for my satisfaction and he explained that the Lamb Chops are grilled medium-rare, like a steak and that I should try the Lamb Bacon Ribs. Well, the other day, I ordered the Lamb Bacon Ribs with their chimichurri on the side and I was not disappointed. I definitely plan to return to feast on my favourite, the Za'atar and Pomegranate Pork Ribs.
Such an unassuming food truck, but don't let that fool you. This spot is a hidden gem! Michelin rated, high quality BBQ. Love the Egyptian twist. The flavors of everything were spectacular. Stand out was definitely the mediterranean rice. I would have never thought to mix BBQ with rice, but this works. The soft tender meat with the delicious sides makes the perfect bite. Delicious meal!
KG BBQ is unique and it is BOMB. I came by after work one day since I'd heard friends rave about this place and it got a Michelin rec in 2024. It's a simple looking black food truck in a busy parking lot, and the day I came was a Saturday when it was raining fairly heavily. Despite that, the lot was mostly full but there were a few spots available. There were about 5-6 people in line ahead of me and a few others still waiting for their food. I ordered the pita which you can request to do 1/2 and 1/2, so I got 1/2 brisket and 1/2 kofta. The kofta was certainly unique but I didn't like it as much as the brisket which was absolutely delicious and prepared so well. It comes with cubed marinated veg and a yogurt sauce to pour on if you get take away. I also ordered the cardamom pistachio rice pudding because I love those flavors and it was very smooth, not too sweet, and easy to eat. I'd love to go back to try the Dum Ali sometime. Overall absolutely would rec a visit to KG if you like bbq, the Egyptian flare to it is super cool and it's delicious! The staff are also so friendly.
This Egyptian BBQ food truck was so good and such a unique find. We got the brisket bowl, the cowboy mac and cheese with brisket, and the pork ribs, and everything was delicious. The brisket bowl was definitely the standout for me. It was so different from anything I've had before--it even had cranberries in it--but all the flavors came together perfectly. The cowboy mac and cheese with brisket was really good too, but I'd probably get the bowl again next time. The pork ribs were the best bite of the whole meal. They fell right off the bone and were so soft and tender. We split everything between two people and were completely stuffed by the end. Such a fun spot.
I wanted to try their rice bowls after hearing praises about it. I opted for the brisket. It was so good! All the flavors from all the components balanced out well. I liked the pomegranates! I wish the nuts were a little smaller though (it was a little difficult to eat with everything else going on) and that there were more pieces of brisket. It was hot, so I decided to eat inside the bar + they have soda you can buy. The bbq definitely lives up to the hype!
Surprisingly not too bus on Saturday lunch! We got some lamb chops, brisket, salad, and rice. We left full and happy :D
Discovered KG BBQ through the Food Truck Friday guys on TikTok. The first time I went was for dinner on a beautiful Saturday night, there was no line. I got the brisket and baladi salad. Brisket was on par with some of the best in town and the pomegranate BBQ sauce was *chefs kiss* I came back with a friend for lunch on a Sunday and the line was quite long, but worth the wait. I got the brisket rice bowl which had everything and LOOK at that portion size. There was a lot going on between the creaminess of the tahini sauce and the crunch of the cashews, to the brisket and rice, topped with pomegranate and raisins. Phenomenal dish. Really good stuff cookin at KG, huge patio shared with the brewery and easy enough to park. Give em a try! read more

A great spot to hit up on a beautiful Spring evening for something old and new, all at the same time. Ordered online (highly recommend...long line) and they had the platter of delicious magic out within 10 mins of promised time (miracle by most Austin standards). Go to the delivery window (not the order window) and let 'em know you are there...they give you a buzzer. Easy, peasy. We sat outside on a picnic table and enjoyed the breeze. Plenty of seating. Tried the chicken shwarma sandwich, smoked lamb chops, lamb bacon ribs, brisket (substitute for grilled chicken as they had run out), chicken rice bowl, the pink buttermilk potato salad and the Mediterranean rice, chimichurri, tahini, and finally, the Eqyptian Ice Ahwa. Standouts = brisket (and provided pickled onions - magic on their own), lamb chops, chimichurri, chicken rice bowl, and the ahwa. The lamb chops and brisket with chimi were perfection and the ahwa is what all iced coffee wishes it could be. Everything had unique flavor profiles and the use of lots of textures in the rice and rice bowl was a welcome change up from the typical BBQ offerings. Cinnamon, nuts, pomegranate...delicious! If beer & wine are your thing, Oddwood had plenty of offerings. My wife got a prosecco, which paired nicely with the weather. Can't wait to come back. Well done, KG! read more

AMAZING. I'm only on day 1 of Austin adventure, but I can safely say this is the best bbq I have ever had. The classic bbq gets a spin with the Egyptian influences of pomegranate, sumac, zatar. The tiny downfall was the least you could order was half a pound. I wish I could've ordered 1/4 just cause we wanted to try everything and it's so filling. We got the lamb bacon ribs, the sumac and cinnamon rubbed lamb shoulder and can't go to bbq without getting brisket. The lamb bacon ribs I think were my favorite the Egyptian take on the lamb shoulder was so perfect. They give you pita hummus this tangy bbq sauce and a little also like parsley green sauce(idk what it's called) on the side. We also got the Egyptian Mac and cheese. The bechemel is so creamy as it gets in the pockets of the shell pasta. Nothing we had was bad. It was also phenomenal. We washed it all done with the hibiscus mint tea. read more

An Egyptian twist on traditional BBQ! I found this BBQ spot from a youtube video by Best Food Show Review and decided to give it a try. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint! This is a hidden gem in the Austin BBQ community. Everything we had was cooked to perfection and everything complemented each other well. Here are a few things we got in detail: - Brisket: really moist, when you touch it, it is glistening with juice. Very tender and pure meaty taste - Lamb Chop: cooked to perfection. A little pricey ($8.50) for one chop but understandable, because it is lamb and it is hard to get right. Worth a try if you haven't had - Mediterranean Rice: Halal cart style rice served with variety of candied nuts and raisins on top. Sweetness of nuts and raisins balance perfectly with the savoriness of the rice. Also cuts the fat of the brisket - Pink ButterMilk Potato Salad: Creamy and heavy due to the buttermilk, but still really solid side. Not your average potato salad - Cinnamon Pistachio Rice Pudding: Cold and very rich. Great way to end such a savory meal Overall, I just love how they put a spin on Texas BBQ. Staff is very friendly and the food is great! Better come now before they become well known one day! read more

Visited on a late afternoon Saturday. Line wasn't too bad maybe 10 or so people in line total. We tried a half pound of nearly everything. Brisket, pork ribs (you get 2), lamb shoulder, lamb bacon. Potato salad and the bread pudding. Everything was really good. The lamb bacon was the star. It has the texture of a perfectly rendered thick cut of pork belly but with a distinctive lamb flavor. Lamb shoulder was very tender. Definitely worth the visit. read more

Absolute worth the stop. Visiting from Montana for the 3M Half Marathon, this was a must-try for me. Definitely glad I made it! The food truck is located at Oddwood Brewing so you can pair the food with beer, if desired. The service was fast! Waited less than 5 minutes to get our order. Both the lamb and brisket rice bowls are great, the meat is amazingly tender and the rice is a great base. The BBQ sauce and yogurt that comes with are great, and the pickled red onions were a subtle star of the dish. Even amidst a long list of restaurants to check out, this may be a repeat in the next couple of days. read more
This is somehow still one of Austin's hidden gems. The best way to describe the food is that it is something I'll think about forever as one of those instances I wish I could experience for the first time again. It's truly life changing. The fusion of middle eastern and traditional bbq flavors is perfected here. The sides, the lamb, the brisket, the ribs are all top notch. My favorite has to be the pomegranate glazed ribs, as you truly get a taste of both the south and the Middle East all at once. I'll think about this meal forever. read more
Y'all... this is such a brilliant take on bbq. I'm often not in the mood for traditional Texas barbecue because it's so heavy and salty - especially during the hot summer months. The Egyptian flavors that KG barbecue incorporates in their cooking keeps things fresh and interesting. The food truck is camped in the same lot as Oddwood brewing, so you can always grab yourself a beer while you eat your bbq. Seating is indoors and outdoors. If you prefer a non alcoholic beverage, they also offer delicious hibiscus mint iced tea (my favorite) or Egyptian iced ahwa. We ordered the pomegranate and za'atar glazed pork ribs and the smoked chicken kebab. As sides, we got the Egyptian baladi salad (which was lighter and refreshing) and the Mediterranean rice which has turmeric and cinnamon, and is topped with pomegranate seeds and candied nuts (this sounds unusual, but the balance of sweet and salty is amazing). If you are vegetarian, you will not be disappointed my these sides - they are amazing. If you don't want to commit to a half pound of meat, they also sell rice bowls and shawarma wraps. We were also surprised by how quickly our food came out (in under 5 minutes). 10/10 would recommend! read more
Definitely order ahead because the place was swamped but since I ordered online I got food right away. Everything was super delicious. The flavor profiles and ingredient combos were definitely less "out there" than I was expecting, but maybe that's for the best. You might not experience this because it's hard to interact with the employees of a busy food truck, but the staff here were very friendly. An employee behind the truck personally offered to throw out our plastic plates when we couldn't find a trash can to use. read more
If KG isn't rated best BBQ in Austin this year, I'll be shocked. It's a natural fusion of smoked meat & middle eastern flavors. Succulent, indulgent, perfectly aromatic, yet no frills. Keeping it short because you need to get here asap. Get some meat, get all the sides, and definitely don't forget the rice pudding. read more
Great spot next to Oakwood Brewing. We had a snack - bacon ribs, brisket pita, cup of rice (which I loved except the butter) the girl at the counter was helpful and patient. She helped with my dietary issues and guided us with our order. I do recommend a visit to their trailer. But not when it's raining because seating is outdoors. Yummy!! read more

Came here on Sunday right when they opened to beat the rush. It was a great idea cause there was a line right at 11AM. I only waited about 10 min before I made it to the counter and my order came out in about 5 min. However it does seem like the later folks had a much longer wait time. I got the brisket bowl, pork ribs, Egyptian Mac and cheese and the bread pudding. The brisket bowl was my favorites out of everything I ordered. The ingredients were fresh and pairs perfectly with the brisket. The pork ribs unfortunately were a bit lackluster for me. I prefer ribs on the sweeter side and these ribs were kinda dry and salty to me. The Egyptian Mac and cheese was interesting cause it reminded me more of a pizza than any pasta dish. At last the bread pudding was also good but nothing that would keep me coming back. I feel like I would come back for the brisket bowl but everything else were of a try once and Im good type of dish. read more

KG BBQ catered Formula 1 this weekend and my group unanimously agreed that it was the best meal we had all weekend Brisket Bowl, loaded with veggies and a nice bed of rice tender brisket with little fat, great vinegrette. The fresh veggies and pomegranate seeds were great on a hot day This was a well balanced and healthy meal into a lot of people's stomach this weekend. High water content to help hydrate and digest. Can't wait to try the real thing read more

Ordered to go and got the combo bowl with chicken and brisket. The absolute best bowl I have ever had. The very first bite I took was honestly orgasmic The almonds, cashews, candied raisins, and pomegranate seeds made the whole bowl that much tastier. Zero regrets, will be coming back to try the wraps and pomegranate glazed ribs. read more
