Stopped in for lunch on a Friday. Waited in a short line. Very friendly service and the food was ready pretty quick. Amazing ribs that were soft but still had a bit of chew to them. The mac & cheese is so different and interesting. We loved it. Would definitely recommend. Parking is a bit weird here and all the seating is outside, so be prepared for that but definitely go anyways!
As a Middle Eastern who loves BBQ, I had to try KGBBQ while I was in Texas. It definitely did not disappoint! I got the rice and lamb chops, and they were SO good. The lamb was cooked perfectly and had so much flavor. But that chimichurri... SO good! It went perfectly with everything. Definitely one of those spots I'm glad I tried while visiting Texas. If you love BBQ and bold flavors, you have to check this place out!
ABSOLUTE BANGER OF TX BBQ! Here's why: Arrived at 11:05AM to beat any possibility of a crowd; still wasn't the first customer, but definitely in the TOP 5. For my order, I got an order of the Za'atar & Pomegranate Glazed Pork Ribs ($17), 1 Lamb Chop ($9.50), and an Egyptian Mac n' Cheese (made COWBOY - added smoked brisket) ($15). Total came to $41.50. First of all, the space is spacious! There are two areas for eating outside --- and although I never went "inside", I did see a building with people going in-and-out of, I assume that's part of the establishment as well? A good amount of fans to keep you comfortable during your stay which is a nice touch. Let's go to the food: I had to give the mac n' cheese the first try --- I've been disappointed too many times before. LOVED IT! First of all, KG BBQ use shells for their mac, and it's not just "queso" --- its seasoned, has some tomato in it, and when it's made "Egyptian" --- you add that beautiful amount of brisket and sauce which just enhance the whole dish. The ribs were also phenomenal. They were fall off the bone tender, but not fragile in any way. The marinade was amazing, and topped with pieces of pomegranate and served with some spiced onions, it's the COMPLEXITY. Often times with TEXAS BBQ, it gets heavy quick. Having these contrasting yet complimentary flavors just makes you want to eat more! It's a complete sensory experience, visually, smell, and taste. The famous lamb chop was also amazing, and served with a little herb concoction on the side that is again --- needed --- to cut through the richness of the meat and fattiness. I've heard some complaints from food bloggers which is valid: there is a good amount of fat on each of these chops, so you better SAVOR the meat on that chop! It'll be done in a few bites! Only feedback? Food temp. It wasn't cold, but it wasn't hot either. In any case, I was thoroughly pleased by KG BBQ and you should definitely pay a visit!
We were on the hunt for the best barbecue in Austin and heard wonderful reviews about KG BBQ. When we arrived at the address, the sign for KG BBQ wasn't immediately visible. We parked and headed toward the food truck, and it turned out to be a fantastic find! Today, we tried the lamb chops, pomegranate pork ribs, salad, and cardamom pistachio rice pudding. The lamb chops were a bit mild in flavor, but the pomegranate pork ribs exploded with taste, definitely surpassing Stiles Swirch. The salad was a bit salty and looked like it was prepared the day before. However, the highlight was the cardamom pistachio rice pudding--I could enjoy that all day long!
KG BBQ is located in a food park area next to a bar/restaurant. Parking can be a bit difficult as most places in Austin TX. You walk up to a food trailer and wait in line to order. Place your order, pay and they give you a pager that will light up and buzz when your order is ready. The brisket was good as was the sausage but the lamb chops were the best. Go and give it a try.
Came here at 1 PM on a Friday for lunch. Put our order in at the truck and sat down in the outdoor seating area, the food came out a few minutes later. The sumac & cinnamon lamb shoulder was fantastic, the two spices worked quite well together and the lamb was rich. The oum ali (Egyptian bread pudding) was great as well, the hazelnuts and golden raisins added a nice texture to the bread pudding, definitely recommend checking this place out!
Overall: 4.5/5 [dine in] We placed an online order for pickup on a Saturday and the earliest available time was 2 hours out. A couple of things to note: they charge a 10% online order service charge and a 3% credit card surcharge. When I got to the pickup window they asked if I wanted the food to go or dine in, and we chose to dine in so we could eat it fresh. They had to go containers available at the truck if you needed them. The portions looked small but were actually pretty filling. 1/2 lb Pomegranate and Za'atar Glazed Pork Ribs ($17): Came with 2 ribs that were okay. They were a little dry and lacking flavor on their own but tasted much better dipped in the pomegranate barbecue sauce. Combo Rice Bowl ($20): Came with mediterranean yellow rice, baladi salad, sauce, protein, cinnamon candied nuts, and pomegranate seeds. For the combo, you get to choose 2 proteins. I went with brisket and kofta (ground beef and lamb). Both were really good but a tad salty so the baladi salad helped balance that out. Egyptian Cowboy ($15): I chose lamb for this and it was the star of the show. The pulled lamb shoulder was incredibly tender and flavorful. The smoked mac and cheese was really good too but the rich bechamel was a bit much for us. The sumac pickled onions helped balance out the heaviness of both the mac and cheese and the lamb shoulder. Cardamom Pistachio Rice Pudding ($9.50): Pricey for rice pudding but I wanted to try the unique flavor. It was light but the cardamom flavor was strong. Interesting to try once but I wouldn't order it again.
Earlier this month, I arrived at KG BBQ early when there was no line and ordered the Lamb Bowl, Mediterranean rice, pulled lamb shoulder, baladi salad, (classic Texas buttermilk with roasted beet puree, fresh dill, jalapenos, and celery), tahini, candied nuts and pomegranate seeds and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Also, I was able to have a little chat with KG and I told him about my dissatisfaction with the Lamb Chop as it was a little too rare for my satisfaction and he explained that the Lamb Chops are grilled medium-rare, like a steak and that I should try the Lamb Bacon Ribs. Well, the other day, I ordered the Lamb Bacon Ribs with their chimichurri on the side and I was not disappointed. I definitely plan to return to feast on my favourite, the Za'atar and Pomegranate Pork Ribs.
Such an unassuming food truck, but don't let that fool you. This spot is a hidden gem! Michelin rated, high quality BBQ. Love the Egyptian twist. The flavors of everything were spectacular. Stand out was definitely the mediterranean rice. I would have never thought to mix BBQ with rice, but this works. The soft tender meat with the delicious sides makes the perfect bite. Delicious meal!
KG BBQ is unique and it is BOMB. I came by after work one day since I'd heard friends rave about this place and it got a Michelin rec in 2024. It's a simple looking black food truck in a busy parking lot, and the day I came was a Saturday when it was raining fairly heavily. Despite that, the lot was mostly full but there were a few spots available. There were about 5-6 people in line ahead of me and a few others still waiting for their food. I ordered the pita which you can request to do 1/2 and 1/2, so I got 1/2 brisket and 1/2 kofta. The kofta was certainly unique but I didn't like it as much as the brisket which was absolutely delicious and prepared so well. It comes with cubed marinated veg and a yogurt sauce to pour on if you get take away. I also ordered the cardamom pistachio rice pudding because I love those flavors and it was very smooth, not too sweet, and easy to eat. I'd love to go back to try the Dum Ali sometime. Overall absolutely would rec a visit to KG if you like bbq, the Egyptian flare to it is super cool and it's delicious! The staff are also so friendly.
This Egyptian BBQ food truck was so good and such a unique find. We got the brisket bowl, the cowboy mac and cheese with brisket, and the pork ribs, and everything was delicious. The brisket bowl was definitely the standout for me. It was so different from anything I've had before--it even had cranberries in it--but all the flavors came together perfectly. The cowboy mac and cheese with brisket was really good too, but I'd probably get the bowl again next time. The pork ribs were the best bite of the whole meal. They fell right off the bone and were so soft and tender. We split everything between two people and were completely stuffed by the end. Such a fun spot.
I wanted to try their rice bowls after hearing praises about it. I opted for the brisket. It was so good! All the flavors from all the components balanced out well. I liked the pomegranates! I wish the nuts were a little smaller though (it was a little difficult to eat with everything else going on) and that there were more pieces of brisket. It was hot, so I decided to eat inside the bar + they have soda you can buy. The bbq definitely lives up to the hype!
Surprisingly not too bus on Saturday lunch! We got some lamb chops, brisket, salad, and rice. We left full and happy :D

I've been wanting to try KG bbq for a couple of weeks now, and I'm glad I made my way there today! KG Bbq is a food truck alongside Oddwood Brewing. I went on a Friday around 1pm, and parking was a struggle! I don't know if it's that packed everyday, but I drove around for 10 minutes before I was lucky enough to get a park. KG bbq is a very interesting concept. Their menu had options to order by the pound but they also had Mediterranean dishes as well. What was popular amongst the people around me ordering were their bowls! I decided to try some basic bbq (brisket & their pink potato salad) and I also ordered two lamb chops & 1 chicken shawarma. Overall the food was tasty, it's definitely not traditional bbq. I think this would be a great restaurant for those that want Mediterranean food with a twist. I wouldn't recommend for anyone that wants something closer to authentic bbq, the different seasonings and menu options may come off as a shock. The brisket was a little dry for my liking, but it had a very refreshing herb used to season it (delicious!) Next time, I think I will try the bowls since they seemed to be popular. read more

Fantastic lamb chops and lamb and pork ribs. The lamb ribs are a little too fatty for me and I wish there was more meat. The pork ribs might be my favourite. Extremely tender and flavourful. The mac and cheese unfortunately was very disappointing. It does not come across as a mac and cheese and more like a pasta dish. The flavours were also a little mediocre and did not go well with the meats. Other than that the food was delicious! Price is on the higher end, especially for outdoor seating attached to another restaurant and not adequate parking, but the food was a great experience. read more

Wow, is all I can say about KG BBQ, Chef Kareem knows what he is doing. Everything was smoked to perfection and had some of the best flavor in bbq. I highly recommend kg for anyone in the area. read more

we went here at around 11:30 during a weekday and we had to wait ~20 minutes in line in the scorching heat but it was so worth it !! this place is definitely DEFINITELY worth the hype, especially if you love Egyptian flavours! the pomegranate ribs were such a highlight ! and the cardamom halva rice pudding was literally the best rice pudding I've had the entire year (side note: i love rice pudding and I've had several variations of it and this one was one of my favourites!) i also really liked the vegetarian rice bowl - so flavourful! my vegetarian brother was also a big fan of it! there is plenty of seating inside the bar as well. read more

A lot of great, unique menu items. Outdoor seating is perfect when the weather is nice. Meats: Brisket - 4/5 Sides: Mediterranean Rice - 5/5 Desserts: Pistachio Rice Pudding - 5/5 Specials: Egyptian Cowboy - 3/5 The Mediterranean rice is absolutely delicious. Sweet and savory. Rice is perfectly cooked. The pistachio rice pudding is a must order. It is sooo phenomenal. Seriously, blown away at how delicious it was. Brisket was tasty, nice flavor. A tad on the overcooked side. The top bark was delicious and moist but the lower half was a bit tough. Egyptian Cowboy was eh. Get there early, the line gets pretty long around 12:30/1pm. Service can be a bit slow. read more

Finally made it here and they were sold out of their pitas, so we both ordered the brisket rice bowl. It was delicious. So many different ingredients in the bowl and very filling. Wish I would have tried the ribs. KG is situated next to Oddwood brewery which had a nice patio where you can grab a beer. read more

Absolutely loved this food truck! We got a whole bunch of BBQ and it did not disappoint. Our favorites were the Lamb Bacon Ribs, Smoked Lamb Chops, Chicken Kebab, and Lamb Shoulder. These were the most unique meats and the flavor profile was delicious. The mac and cheese was delicious, so cheesy, however does have a tomato-ey taste. Loved the OUM Ali (Egyptian Bread pudding) however does have raisins. Overall we loved it and will be coming back! Ordering online made the service very easy. Parking is a bit of an issue because they are a food truck, but they have a parking lot across the street which is good. read more

Delicious food, laid back environment at Oddwood Brewery. Took a while to order but staff was super friendly and accommodating when certain items ran out. Highly recommend. Double date and the four of us split 4 lamb chops, a pound of pork ribs (5), brisket rice bowl (so good), salad, couple desserts. Chimichurri was delicious. read more

Discovered this place through Instagram and holy crap this place is awesome! A great fusion between Texas BBQ and Egypt/Mediterranean food and spices. The chef is from Egypt and he has his own take on Texas BBQ. Everything I had was super delicious and they are currently in a parking lot in a brewery. I would go there as early as you can because they go until they are sold out. The line can also get fairly long but it is totally worth the wait. The menu is fairly simple but a few highlights for me were the brisket, brisket rice bowl, lamb bacon ribs, Egyptian Mac and cheese. The meat was super tender and juicy and filled with incredible spices and flavor. You can order by the 1lb or you can get a few items that are part of the menu. They even got my order wrong but made it right and offered to throw in an additional item. If you are in Austin give this place a visit. They are upcoming and they have fantastic food and customer service! read more
Food: 4/5 KG absolutely kills it in the BBQ game and makes great shawarma although it's quite pricey. Service: 3/5 A no-nonsense approach to service and they forgot one of our meals. That being said they were quick to resolve the issue. Environment: 5/5 Plenty of outdoor seating and parking! read more

so glad i finally got to try KG BBQ. the space is a bit tight but they share a parking lot with oddwood brewing. there were a ton of folks waiting for lunch on a thursday. i made an order online and went to pick it up, made the process really smooth. i got the pork ribs, lamb chops, brisket rice bowl, mac + cheese and potato salad. pork ribs had a delicious pomegranate + za'atar seasoning. lamb chops were good and came with a tasty chimichurri sauce. the mac + cheese and potato salad were a miss for me, pasta was too mushy and potato salad could of used more beet flavor. the star of my meal was definitely the brisket rice bowl - very tender meat and beautiful flavors of tahini, pomegranate seeds + candied almonds. definitely worth $18.50! KG BBQ lives up to the hype but it can get pricy. i'd recommend just getting their bowls or wraps and grabbing a drink from the bar - can't go worth with that! read more

This is a BBQ food truck that serving Texas style BBQ with Egyptian flavors. This was quite busy on a weekend evening. The food truck sits outside of a beer hall/ bar. There is an outdoor patio area with play area for kids and you can sit inside the bar as well. The bar also had pizza and other foods available . The line was not too long but food came out quite slowly. On the plus side I got to go inside the bar which had a long list of beers. The server listened to what I was looking for in a beer that is and let me try a few. We got our food after about 20 minutes. We tried the pork ribs, lamb bacon ribs, a lamb chop and the sausage. The pork ribs were not very tender. The bbq sauce was lovely though with a hint of pomegranate molasses. The lamb chop was tender and flavorful . It went well with the chimichurri sauce the food came with. I loved the herbaceous freshness of this sauce and should have ordered extra. The lamb ribs were very tasty. Surprisingly not gamey at all. I would have liked more meat but the pieces we got were too fatty for me. The sausage with feta cheese and chili was tasty but could have been warmer. We also had a cucumber and tomato salad with feta cheese and pomegranate seeds. This was light and refreshing. The rice pilaf with nuts sounded interesting too but we didn't see that until after we ordered. KG has rice bowls you can have with BBQ and tahini sauce on top of the rice pilaf . Would like to try in the future. Overall I liked the flavors. I tasted cumin , cinnamon, turmeric? and cardamom in the dishes. This was unusual for me in BBQ but paired well with the food. If you are looking for a different take on BBQ this is it. read more
Amazing! I stopped by for a quick lunch on a weekday and there was no line. I wanted to try everything but unfortunately there's a minimum of a half pound per meat except the lamb chop which is by the bone but they also have rice bowls and shawarmas. I got a brisket rice bowl and a lamb chop and the flavors were on point. I love bbq but it usually leaves me feeling heavy. The brisket rice bowl adds a nice freshness to the bbq with pomegranates, veggies, roasted nuts, etc. The ingredients work well together and was great flavor and texture. The lamb chop was great as well and came with a fresh chimmichurri sauce. Definitely will come back to try the other items. read more

Amazing BBQ and friendly staff. As someone who has visited most of the big name BBQ spots in Austin, I found the brisket to be as good as Franklin's or Terry Black's, but does not have the crazy wait time. The brisket was perfectly tender, moist, flavorful, and had a great bark. I have been here several times and they are very consistent with the high quality of their BBQ. The brisket rice bowl was absolutely fantastic and well-balanced. The flavor combination of seasoned rice, candied nuts, salad, and pomegranate complement the brisket very well! They put their own unique spin on BBQ while still staying true to traditional legit BBQ flavors. I also had the opportunity to take a brisket class taught by KG, the owner/pitmaster. I found him to be an excellent teacher who put on a great class; he was super knowledgeable, professional, and seemed like a genuinely caring and charismatic guy who wanted to share his passion of the BBQ craft with the class. Glad this place is getting the positive recognition it deserves! Can't wait to come back! read more
An interesting take on barbecue. Most items were made with an Egyptian twist. The brisket was the best of the meats, fairly tender and smoked decently well. The pork ribs had great flavor with the pomegranate glaze, but could have been juicier and softer. The lamb shoulder, while tender, was pretty gamey, which overtook whatever spices they cooked it with. For the sides, the potato salad with beet puree and buttermilk dressing was the best of the ones we tried. The mac and cheese, while tasty and cooked, was a little more like vodka sauce or tomato cream pasta than what you would expect mac and cheese to be. The Mediterranean rice was pretty decent, enhanced by the addition of toasted nuts and pomegranate seeds. Pricing was not the cheapest - sides were 9.50 a pint, and meats ranged between $30-36 per pound. Overall, while pricey, it was definitely very interesting to try once. read more

Run don't walk here, better yet drive! Love KG BBQ so much. Had the pleasure to try it 2 years ago at Hot Luck, so glad his trailer is up and running. This is the spin TX bbq has needed. Great new flavors that complement what we do best here with KG's spin. Everything was delicious and I would order everything again! We went at lunch on a Friday and the wait was only 15 minutes. Loved everything we got! read more
