A nice find on Captiva! It has been recommended to us from friends thru the years to visit but never got around to it until now. We are disappointed we haven't tried it sooner. Service is great and the food does not disappoint. The atmosphere is relaxing with music entertainment in the background. Of course, your in Captiva. Back to the food, 4 of us had seared tuna, macadamian nut encrusted mahi mahi and a delicious boulibase with all fresh seafood. All did not disappoint. The coupe da gras was the Keylime pie. We had breakfast this morning. It started out well enough, got seated quickly. But then no one returned for a while, maybe 10 minutes. Then another waitress came on and she came in, took our orders and brought coffee, really bad coffee, so that was the first sign. I ordered two eggs over easy, sausage, and wheat toast, my friend ordered the eggs Benedict. Order came out, sausage was cold in the middle so once I got the waitresses attention I sent them back, also no toast, so I asked about that. She brought me new sausage and two pieces of bread that had been grilled, not toasted, not even close to toasted. Anyway, I won't be back, I've heard dinner is OK but if two staff can't handle four customers for breakfast, then dinner is not worth the risk. read more

My wife and I ate here several months ago (November) during a trip to Captiva. I had actually forgotten to write a review until now, but I think it's still warranted given our experience. First, the pros. Any place with live music at lunchtime is going to be solid. We also really liked the service, as both the servers and bussers were friendly and attentive throughout our meal. Now, the cons. Almost everything that I ate had major issues. The crabcake starter had such a strong "fishy" smell (more than any crabcake should EVER have) that I just left it alone after one bite. My educated guess is that it had been sitting somewhere and then was microwaved to order, based on the texture. Burger was decent, though I'm seeing in other reviews that people have not enjoyed it. Chips & salsa were very stale. And not a day or two stale where the chips are a tiny bit crispier than they should be. Hard-to-chew stale. I considered starting to send food back, but I HATE sending food back and it would have looked bad given the number of items with issues (3-4 between my wife and I). Listen, I understand that sometimes things are accidentally prepared improperly and it's not reflective of how they usually taste/smell. But this place absolutely cannot charge the prices it does across the board and not be delivering on the simple things. I mean....Chips & Salsa....come on. read more

Still, the one in particular wasn't nice, and from someone who has worked in the service industry, it was unnecessary to be so unpleasant Our specific waitress was nicer, but again seemed over stressed. Food came out very slow and the over easy eggs were cooked through. Other items were cold as the timing of the meals seemed off by the kitchen. So I was going to give this place 3 stars, but then I asked myself, would I want to return? The answer is no. Is this place horrible? No, it's not, but what it is is extremely overpriced, lacking of flavor, and any refinement. My family took me here for my birthday, after we left the Lazy Flamingo due to a 45 minute wait. When we first arrived my aunt said to the manager (maybe owner), hey it's her birthday, does she get a free drink or dessert? This was kind of embarrassing to me, but I guess there's no harm in asking. He just looked at her like she was nuts and walked away. No free drink, fine, but say happy birthday to the pretty birthday girl. The restaurant had a large and a delicious looking cocktail list. I had a key lime martini. It was very strong, and had a good key lime flavor, but it wasn't sweet enough. I don't like overly sweet drinks, but this was kind of hard to drink. It was supposed to have a splash of pineapple juice, and I couldn't taste any in it. I make key lime martinis at home with vanilla vodka, pineapple juice, and lime juice. They are easy to make and delicious, so I'm not sure what the problem was here. Others in my party decided to get a glass of Snoqualmie Riesling, which I buy by the bottle anywhere from $4 to $6 in Seattle. I was amazed that a bottle there goes for $33 a bottle and $9 a glass....yikes! Talk about price hike. I guess we are on a very small island, and there's going to be price gouging at all the restaurants, but holy hell, it was going on big time at this place. The prices for entrees range from approximately $22 to $35, for food that should only be about $15-$17 max. When I first looked over the menu, I was impressed by the sounds of all of the dishes. All of the menu items had great ingredient combination. I decided to try the crab cakes for $9 and a small spinach salad for $5, instead of the crab cake dinner. The overpriced $22 dinner came with 3 cakes, rice, and veggies...boring. The app came with 2 cakes, and I couldn't eat 3 if i tried. The salad was fresh at least, with portabello mushroom and roasted red pepper strips, tomato, and really yummy, creamy goat cheese. It was dressed with a bland-sweet strawberry vinaigrette. I had to add a lot of salt, as the dressing was not seasoned with anything other than sugar. Once I salted the salad, it was pretty good, and not bad for the price. The cakes were very dense. They looked like mini deep fried hockey pucks. They were definitely edible, but I kept getting crunches of shell towards the end and it grossed me out. They were supposed to come with a "key lime aioli." The sauce that it came with was more like a remoulade. It was good, but I was looking forward to the key lime aioli, advertised on the menu. The other food ordered by my family was about on the same caliber; it all looked like generic, sloppy hotel food. Our waiter was very pleasant and the food came out quickly. Those were the most positive things about the experience, as I was starving when we got there. The live music was OK, but the guy kept taking breaks, which I thought was odd on a busy Saturday night. Do you want fresh and tasteful seafood? If you are in Captiva you should stop here and give them a try. I did it this past weekend and I did not want to leave the place. It was a heck of a hot day and we were a big group. Unfortunately their AC was broken inside, so we chose to sit outside close to the big fan they had on, and close to the stage where they had this incredible soul singer that got us dancing all afternoon long. He had such smooth voice and such a soul swing. It just enhanced the entire experience and made us extremely happy. I started by ordering their Frozen Berries a drink that tasted more like dessert and made me feel like I was starting my meal backwards... Don't get me wrong, it was very good! Now the food, they brought sesame crackers with cheese spread and grapes to open our palates. We ordered friend calamari that came with two sauces: spicy tomato and Aoli mayo. They were all good and complemented nicely the calamari. I ordered the Walnut crusted snapper with fruit sauce. It came garnished with yellow rice and vegetables. It was delish! The fish was fresh and cooked to perfection, the sauce had pineapple, kiwi, cantaloupe. It was a sweet touch of paradise on top of the tasteful fish. The veggies had a sweet taste to it, I'm not sure if because of the fruit sauce or if they were cooked like that, what matters is that it all combined very well. I also tried the Blackened grouper over crispy salad (crispy shrimp and calamari). The fish once again was fresh and the spices made it divine. A subtle explosion of flavors in your mouth and all with good live music playing on the background. My friends had real dessert: creme brulee and Key lime pie, but I had another Frozen drink because it was still hot as hell, but I would it all again! And we finished that beautiful experience by watching the magical sunset at the end of the street. What an amazing afternoon! I will most certainly go back again and pretty soon. read more

Keylime Bistro has luxurious food like Salmon Oscar slathered with a key lime hollandaise, backed with heavy-duty desserts, including the ubiquitous, eponymous pie. Cocktails range from chocolately-sweet to sunset-colored rum punch laden with slices of pineapple bigger than your head. In an effort to reduce the number of questionable choices made that day, I ordered the grilled salad: Half a giant head of red-leaf lettuce, grilled over an open flame, doused with a gorgonzola dressing. Pretty freaking good. The Salmon Oscar is also grilled (then covered with a cup of hollandaise) and would be amazing with mimosas at brunch. Our waitress was totally not surprised when we had the key lime pie for dessert. The sauces on the plate were gorgeous and artfully drawn. This is hands down the best key lime pie I have ever had, including in Key West! I have to add, my mother, who is extremely critical of key lime pie, agrees that this is just phenomenal! The key lime is award-winning, as our live entertainer pointed out, and The presentation is beautiful- the pie is topped with decadent whipped cream floating in a pool of strawberry and key lime anglaise. The crust is infused with sugar and is to die for! It's so rich so I highly recommend splitting one slice amongst two people. The bistro is located in the heart of Captiva right next to a very cute B and B. Parking is across the street for free but multiple businesses share the lot, just FYI. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served here, with breakfast being available until 2pm. Live entertainment is daily on the patio- we had the pleasure of enjoying a great reggae artist covering jazz favorites such as Diana Krall. Definitely try to enjoy the outdoor seating, even if you have to wait a little bit. On another note, bathrooms are single stall so plan accordingly. They have a decent selection of bottled and draft beers. Most are $4.95 with some being slightly cheaper. I had a great Full Sails IPA that complimented my lunch nicely; I only wish it had been on draft and not bottle only. Four members of my party, myself included, ordered the blackened grouper sandwich which was served on ciabatta with a side of key lime aioli, a pickle, tropical slaw, and fresh fruit. Lettuce, tomato, and onion also came on the side. WOW!!! That grouper was amazing and I could have, quite literally, drank the key lime aioli if I hadn't used it all on the sandwich. Bread was perfectly toasted and crisp too. The fish to bread ratio was outstanding! Even the fresh tomato was succulently sweet. The fresh fruit was merely a slice of pineapple and cantaloupe but it was very fresh and the perfect palate cleanser post-meal. The slaw had pineapple mixed in and, although mayo based, it was extremely lightly dressed so it felt quite refreshing when paired with the grouper. The odd man out in our group had an MTO omelette, which came with bacon, fresh fruit, and sweet potato home fries. He highly enjoyed his late breakfast. Service was friendly albeit slightly slow but our food same quickly so there were no complaints. After your meal, take a walk down to the beach and enjoy! We also split the Grilled Salad - literally half an iceberg, grilled and served warm - which was weird. Not bad, not great, but definitely interesting. Live music was good - the duo that plays Thursday nights is solid. They're like an Eastern European knockoff of whatever they play. Request Love Shack and listen to them muddle through those lyrics. I drove out to Captiva to watch the subset.. Key Lime Bistro was one of the few places open to grab take out... what a surprise amazing meal. I got the Voo doo chicken over pasta and it had the best, home cooked flavor! I would go back just for that!
