Yucatán Waterfront is back and in a big way. Small drab portions..GONE! Don't give ---- service..GONE! Food..plated beautifully, tasting fantastic...YES! Our party of five, including a three year old, were served by Ashton, who never missed a step. My escargot was done differently than before, much better, with tasty garlic bread which is HUGE improvement over the stale mini roll from before. My wife's Taco Salad, son's Blackened Shrimp, Daughter-in-law's fried shrimp and grandson's burgers were all perfect. While I didn't try their dishes, the adults food looked like it came from a master chef. If you, like us, had a bad experience a year ago and stopped coming to Yucatán...it's time to go back.

The food was solid and the waterfront atmosphere was as charming as ever. Unfortunately, the payment process turned a good meal into a frustrating mess. After lunch, our server brought a handheld credit card terminal. We tried swiping our card multiple times, but the machine kept failing to read it. Assuming the payment hadn't gone through, we paid in cash and left. The next day, I checked my statements and discovered the card had been charged anyway. I called the restaurant several times to resolve the double payment, but no one ever returned my calls. I even contacted Mastercard, but they couldn't help directly. The meal itself was enjoyable, but the complete lack of communication and follow-up on the billing error left us feeling disrespected. Bottom line: We won't be returning. If you're looking for a great waterfront meal in the area, there are far more reliable options, including: * Blue Dog Bar & Grill * Tarpon Lodge * Phuzzy's Boat Shack * Miceli's Restaurant * and so many more ... plus many other excellent local restaurants. Skip Yucatán until they fix their payment and customer service issues. I hope the next time we drive by we see a sign that says "under new management"

We were seated promptly on a recent Thursday evening, and scored a table overlooking the water. The restaurant wasn't remotely busy. Service was good, and we didn't feel rushed. I had the blackened salmon (8 oz) with 2 included sides, slaw and a baked potato. While there's a choice of sides, quite a few (including ones I might have chosen) have upcharges. My husband had fish & chips. Beer and house wine are reasonably priced. There are plenty of menu choices, including seafood boils priced by the half pound. My baked potato only came with sour cream; I had to ask for butter. I enjoyed the meal; the portion size was just right. My husband says his fish & chips dinner was among the best he'd ever had. The parking area for the restaurant is also used for hotel occupants. There's a dock leading to the restaurant from the back. This is a nice,casual place to grab a seafood dinner and enjoy the view.

Aside from the sports decor, The Sanibel Grill has a very similar menu to Timbers Restaurant next door - I'm pretty sure the two are one and the same and share the same kitchen. I ordered the Grouper Fish tacos. You can get them blackened, fried, or grilled. I opted for fried. Note that the Sanibel Grill is known for their signature cornflake crunchy batter - but the grouper fish tacos are the lightly breaded bites and not cooked in their signature batter. The grouper was nicely cooked - tender and delicate bites. They used corn tortillas, which didn't fall to pieces while eating, but they were pretty flimsy (it was easy for a grouper bite to roll out). The tacos are served with rice pilaf topped with black beans which was on the bland side (nothing to write home about). I would've liked a hit of lime to add to my tacos, but the waitress never came back to check on us. Service is minimal. This is bar service all around. My friend ordered the combo basket (Grouper and fried shrimp) and comes with a side of fries and cole slaw. You can hear the crunch - I can see why it's their signature. My sister ordered the shrimp scampi with rice pilaf (she was hoping for pasta but that was not a side option - it's either rice pilaf or potatoes - smashed, French fried, or sweet potato fries). It also came with fresh green beans. The shrimp were nicely cooked and super buttery. She also ordered the crab bisque which was creamy and had good crab flavor, but I wouldn't say it was overloaded with crab meat. We finished the meal with a slice of Florida's signature key lime pie. The slice was small but had giant key lime flavor. It was very sweet but this was my favorite key lime pie slice from our whole trip. The Sanibel Grill gave us average food and average service. The crab cakes were delicious as well, but the fried green tomatoes and conch fritters definitely stole the show. For my entrée, I ordered the Quinoa Steak Salad, and I was shocked by the size. The portion is enormous and could easily be shared by two people, or even serve as a family-style salad for three or four. The steak was perfectly cooked, and the combination of quinoa, avocado, fresh vegetables, and cheese made it both hearty and refreshing. Several people at our table ordered the evening special, the blackened snapper over mushroom risotto, and it was phenomenal. The snapper was perfectly cooked, flaky, and full of flavor, while the creamy mushroom risotto complemented it beautifully. It was easily one of the standout dishes of the evening. The honey glazed salmon was another favorite at our table. The braised short ribs were rich, tender, and beautifully presented. One person in our group ordered the stuffed lobster and thoroughly enjoyed it, mentioning both the flavor and the generous portion size. The fish tacos were good, but with so many exceptional dishes on the table, they simply weren't the standout. Between the exceptional food, generous portions, outstanding service, and lively atmosphere, this was the perfect way to end our week on Sanibel Island. It's easy to see why every table was full.
