Avoid this place. I planned a birthday dinner here for my girlfriend and the experience was a disaster from start to finish. The address listed on Google is wrong. After arriving at the advertised location, we were told the restaurant had moved and had to take a trolley 10 minutes away in the dark just to find it. When we finally arrived, the restaurant was nearly empty, but manager Alex refused to seat us because we didn't have wristbands. Nowhere online, on Google, or at the original location was this requirement disclosed. We offered to pay cash or credit card and were still turned away. No apology. No attempt to help. No solution. The most troubling part came afterward. While waiting for the trolley back, I overheard Alex allow another couple without wristbands to dine, despite telling us it was against policy. The only obvious difference was that they were a white couple, while my girlfriend and I are an interracial couple. I don't make accusations lightly, and I rarely leave negative reviews. As a longtime business owner, I understand the impact reviews can have. But this experience was unacceptable. The only bright spot was a waiter named Knox, who showed genuine empathy and tried to help. He was the only person there who seemed to care about customer service. What a miss. So stale and boring. An amazing location with great history yet this redesign screams Hampton Inn Hotel lobby. Who designed this? Have to agree that this place must have improved after the new ownership took over. We chose Harborside for our last dinner in Captiva. Our waiter Danny was great, very friendly and good with the recommendations. He said the grouper was excellent and it was! We also enjoyed the scallops wrapped in bacon and the beet and burrata salad. My wife liked her salmon and the kids liked the Cuban bread, sliders, and chicken fingers. Most improved restaurant on Captiva! Ignore any review before 2022. South Seas is under new ownership and Harborside has been transformed. It is a gem. The food, cocktails and wine list are all great. Most importantly the service is terrific. They are now open for breakfast too. read more

I have no idea where the bad reviews are coming from. We just recently stayed at South Seas and went to Harborside Bar and Grill for dinner. We had 6 people in our party, we made dinner reservations at 5:30 so we would have enough time to see the sunset after dinner. The restaurant is beautiful! Located right on the harbor (we saw manatees in the water on our walk in). The decor is just stunning. We were warmly greeted upon arrival. We got a drink at the bar and went right to our table. It was not busy at all and felt like we have the whole place to ourselves. Our server was fantastic! She had a wonderful personality and really made the experience that much better. We got the crispy cauliflower and green beans for an appetizer, SO GOOD! It came with a spicy sauce and cashews. The size was large and perfect for sharing. Everyone in our group got something different to eat from fish to beef and I have to tell you, everything was delicious! My NY strip was cooked to perfection. The only negative of the evening was that the air conditioning was not working so it was a tad warm. But what can you do, this is Florida. It happens! Do not let any negative reviews deter you from giving this restaurant a try. Even if just going for a drink to take in the atmosphere, I recommend it. read more

I had to write this review before I even left the restaurant. The food needs help! I ordered the western omelette and upon delivery to the table I could already tell that it was going to taste like cardboard. What happen to the seasoning? I guess they ran out. The omelette was a little to greasy and the ingredients were not tasty at all. The side of potatoes were just placed on the stove and not seasoned at all very plain flavor. The service is very slow and a bit unorganized. Arrived at 10am and didn't get seated til about 1040am. This was the best restaurant for South Seas Captiva Resort. We are not seafood people, and were delighted that they served several other entrees in addition to seafood. The filet mignon was delicious! The view of the marina is beautiful and romantic. The service was also very good. The chef choice of complimenting flavors is really lacking and seems to think that some sautéd garlic with olive oil in the cauliflower with a bare hint of salt and pepper would satisfy my palette, but the chef was wrong. The portions are small unless you are willing to splurge on the $52 lobster pasta which my son also informed me was bland. Drinks were good and again enjoyed the service, but the kitchen is lacking for the price point. I recommend leaving the resort to find better dining elsewhere as I remained unimpressed with this very expensive yet flat dining experience. read more

OMG! I don't know where all the bad reviews are coming from, but our meal was excellent. Our waiter was attentive and didn't rush us through the meal. We began with the octopus appetizer. I had never had octopus before and was pleasantly surprised. It has a flavor and consistency of lobster. You just have to get around the suction cup aspect of the tentacles. We also ordered Cuban bread with adobo butter. Mostly this was meant for the entrees so we could absorb juices. The most stunning moment (for me) was my smoked Old Fashioned. It was so good and the smell of wood smoke was intoxicating. This is a very strong drink, so possibly avoid the urge to order another. For entrees I ordered the special ribeye with baked potato and broccolini. The ribeye was so flavorful, although I would have liked it a little more rare. The veggies were perfect. My husband had mahi-mahi covered in crab meat. Again, this was a perfectly seasoned dish and the fish was moist and tender. Of course, we perused the dessert menu. We shared an excellent crème brûlée. I also had a tiramisu dessert martini. Yum! This is not a place to go if you're on a budget, but the entire South Seas complex is for people who can spend a few (lot) bucks. read more

We ate here our first night because we arrived late and it was next to our resort building. When we saw the menu prices we were skeptical it would be worth it. So my husband ordered fish and chips for$22 and I ordered a wedge salad and the tempura battered cauliflower and green beans with Asian slaw. Adding fish or chicken tacked on an additional $20 so I didn't. The cauliflower and green beans were amazing!! My husband hates cauliflower and he was eating it!!( it's a very large portion to be shared). Since we've eaten on Captiva and Sanibel several days we've noticed the prices are high everywhere and the food isn't much to talk about. Seems like places get away with being mediocre because they know people will come and go. That being said the Harborside Grill is actually worth it and we'll go again before we leave. The drinks were on point, the atmosphere is nice indoors or out, right on the harbor with a great view. FYI they do have a breakfast buffet for $22.95, with omelette bar and everything else you'd want. I don't eat enough for breakfast to justify that price personally so we went elsewhere. read more

We should have looked at these reviews before coming here, but being guests of the resort we didnt know any better. We arrived and the hostess was nowhere to be seen. We were finally seated after about 10 minutes and then it took a very long time for our waiter to come with waters. The service here is exceptionally slow. We ordered a Harborside salad to start, which was actually pretty good. Then it went downhill from there. They had a fish picatta special which 2 of us ordered. While the fish was fresh, it lacked any kind of flavor. The pesto risotto that came with it was okay, but the asparagus was also just bland. We also ordered the chicken which was dry and flavorless. Unfortunately we opted to order dessert, and the key lime pie was a huge disappointment. Everything about it was wrong. Even the creme brulee was not good. Walked in and seated immediately with warm smiles and attentiveness. The prices are a little steep but I was quickly surprised at the meal and the level of service received. We both had the Huervos Ranchos and a side of meat/turkey sausage. I was expecting the usual style... these should have been called breakfast nachos with a twist! Fresh salsa, avocado, black beans, lime, shredded cheddar cheese, cilantro, blue tortilla shells with two poached eggs on top. The bottomless cup of coffee and ice water were much appreciated. Yikes, stay away from this place. Food is way overpriced and the service is absolutely abysmal. There appeared to be only 1 waiter working that night, despite the restaurant appearing to have less than half capacity. No one came to our table to serve us waters or to take our order. After 35 minutes of no one coming to our table, we asked the hostess for assistance, but she acted like she couldn't be bothered. As we were leaving, I noticed several roaches scurrying on the floor. Luckily, the experience was very pleasant - immediate seating, view of beautiful boats, fast service and good food. Started with island shrimp cocktail. Nice presentation, creative take on slaw. Samples Riesling from a medium-size wine list. Enjoyed live music. Sampled a special of Curried grouper on a bed of mussels, shrimp and scallops in light tomato sauce - quite delicious. Mmmms kept coming from other sides of the table where scallops and Cajun red snapper have been served. We came down for a weekend getaway and wished we had more time. After trying another nearby restaurant on Friday night, ( which was horrible - located just outside of main gate) , we decided to try the Harborside on Saturday evening. What a wonderful surprise! We chose to eat outside under the fans, had a beautiful of the marina and walk area. We were a party of four- started with lump crab cake and also the shrimp cocktail . One crab cake cooked perfectly with just the right seasonings. There was a side of remoulade sauce along with coleslaw. The shrimp cocktail had six large shrimp presented in three couplings on cocktail sauce nests. Our entrees were spit in! I had the grouper resting on green beans and carrots o top of island rice ( this is a must have- coconut, pineapple, mango, jasmine rice). I would have ordered extra if I had known it was this good. My daughter had the jerk chicken (on bone) with the rice. Both of these dishes were served with green beans and baby carrots. My husband and son had the burger with pineapple, bacon, chipotle seasoned sauce, and cheddar cheese. The fries that came with them were served in a small fry basket seasoned with garlic salt to give them a different taste. We had wine with dinner- there is a decent wine list to choose from. We chose not to have dessert as a storm was heading in. Our server, Richard was wonderful and attentive without hovering. He is from Jamaica and his knowledge of the area is expansive. The chef, Andrei, came by our table to make sure everything was wonderful. He is very pleasant to talk to and also very knowledgeable about the islands. We had a wonderful dinner and even came back the next morning for the buffet breakfast ( which was included with our room rate). The buffet was pretty much like a cruise buffet, lots to pick from, displayed very nicely. The property was clean and well kept. We enjoyed the bicycle rentals and trolleys. We arrived tonight for drinks outside on patio facing the water it was 5 pm literally 2 tables were being used and the hostess said we could not sit at any table that was set. We said everyone is we will only be 45 min and have a drink we said place empty. She said I can't do that. We are staying at hotel and it's unreal how they treat guests. Where do I begin.. I wish I could give this zero stars. We arrived for our reservation 10 mins early and the family in front of us was turned away because they were "fully booked". We looked around the restaurant and it appeared to be 30% full (indoor and outdoor, combined). We were seated outside (we weren't given the option) by the hostess and 25 mins later, we were never approached by a waiter. We were outside, on the marina, so there were a ton of mosquitos. We asked for bug spray but they didn't have any to offer. They also didn't offer to seat us elsewhere. When we went back inside to talk to the hostess about our options, she was very rude and not accommodating. When we were hesitating about leaving she said "so are you staying or what?" Went with my girlfriend for last night of vacation. Great table outside. Server was nice. Took quite a while to get our cocktails. Placed an order for fried calamari appetizer and 2 entrees. Fried calamari came out quick. VERY salty, overpowering in fact. Entrees came out before we finished the appetizer we didn't even have time to order a second glass of wine. Please don't waste your time, there are a lot of restaurants around the hotel to spend or rather waste your money on microwaved food with missing ingredients from the description, for example: lemon grilled chicken with arugola salad and feta cheese, actually sans feta, but the chicken was so dry that i didn't even bother to ask for it, that it's that expensive if they cannot pull chicken really what can you expect. Another example, my kid asked for pasta, i know "boring" but it's pasta with cheese, guess what, so dry and chewy. Ok so i can go on, but i just wanted to do my duty and save some hard earned money from being wasted at this rather beautiful restaurant that fooled me into dinning in it. The NY strip was tough, lobster mac and cheese tasted like frozen, the "Wild Salmon" sure looked like a piece of typical farm raised, and the chicken was bland. 0 for 4. Even though I think most restaurants have too large of portions these are very small. $26 for 2 crab crakes that are silver dollar size when we had crab crakes of twice the portions we could share as a family for $13-$15 other places here. Based on the reviews I was not going to give the place a try. We are staying at Southseas Plantation and dinner choices are limited. I'm so glad we came here. The Yucca fries were really good and the aioli it came with was amazing. I had the Steak Frites, it was so tender and cooked perfect. It is the off season down here so it was not busy at all.
