Surprised to read the reviews, the food here in fantastic. Start with the spicy tuna tower, it's delicious. As an entree I had the filet and it was cooked to perfection. Margaritas are made fresh with an in-house mix. No complaints. read more

Was worried with the bad reviews, almost didn't stop. We had a delicious breakfast with Mimosa. Eggs Benedict , eggs with hash, all yummy. Don't hesitate to have breakfast here. Coffee was very good and kept on flowing. Wanted to update review after having dinner tonight. My friends each had grouper and boullebase(sp?) and raved about it. The bread was yummy and warm. You can't beat the location at the marina with the boats. Our server and hostess were helpful beyond compare. What I'm learning while on Captiva is perhaos don't order a meat main course, which is hard when you don't eat fish. I got the pork chop and while it was OK, the thick dark sauce was super salty and unnecessary but that could be my fault for not reading the description, same thing happened to me at Docs a few nights ago with the brisket. The chop was dry, but i suffer dry chops when i cook home so, it all felt somewhat normal, my friends assured me it is not the way it should be. I had such s nice evening i really didn't mind the food being less than desirable and remember, my friends loved their fish. We had a key lime pie, which we are comparing everywhere we go. Beware of gratuity add on is very generous. We came here for Christmas dinner as we stayed for a week at south seas resort. The dinner menu included pork shank, def tenderloin, fish, duck. We chose our entree, both choosing pork. Their before entree is buffet style. Fresh oysters being shucked, a bread and fresh cheese station. A something pakora typed station and a fresh gnocchi station with two different sauces. The oysters were good I had a couple and the cheese was my favourite. The server would melt it and cut the oozing cheese onto your freshly sliced bread (0 calories). The entree was good, a large portion of meat. The pork was fatty but it's a shank leg so I expected it wouldn't be cut because it marbleized in the meat while cooking and it tasted great! The dessert was good but far too much and far too sweet but I have a couple pieces. So sounds perfect right? Well we get the bill and there's a 35% gratuity. We both had the $58 option and two complimentary champagne bottles (two little mickeys which would have even $38 usd if not complimentary). Our bill went from $150 usd or so to $260 (after conversion to cdn) !!!! So although the food was great I don't think it was worth a 35% service charge nor was the service any better than any restaurant in Captiva Island area. I reviewed the bill after and it said a party of 6 will be charged 25% service but why was a party of two charged 35%??? I should have looked at the bill more closely while in the restaurant but that is just ridiculous. read more

The food is typical and fairly inexpensive; yet the resort is atypical and fairly expensive. It's a matter of incongruencey, clearly something has been overlooked. It would be nice to see a tasting menu for $100, $150 or $200 in high season. The only decent dinner one can find in the vicinity is in Tampa and I will continue to have my meals flown into the north captiva airstrip for the foreseeable future. "Great Food - HORRIBLE service." Our party of 6, (my 80 yr old dad and 5 50+ professional women - having been told when we called for a reservation that they were busy that night and could only take us at an early hour (6:15) we arrived to a near empty restaurant - which never was more than 25% full during our 2 1/2 hour visit. The waiter was horrid. We recieved menus - and then waited nearly 20 minutes for any further contact - - - - he returned to tell us the specials - - which he did so quickly and so softly - that we strained to understand, asked him to repeat. He quickly left (without taking our drink orders) - at which point we turned to one another trying to figure out who had heard what of the specials. He returned roughly 10 min. later after several attempts to beckon him - to take our orders --and that got off to a bad start when we told him we'd need 3 seperate checks - - he actually looked away and rolled his eyes - though he did, grudginly, take our orders of both first course and entrees - then started to leave - at which point I had to actually call out to him tin order to ask for wine. He had never yet asked me if I'd like anything to drink. When I called out my wine request (he saw no reason to return to us - just halted about 10 feet away and waited for my order) - He only nodded and walked on. We then waited nearly 40 minutes for our first course. REALLY ! Several times throughout our dinner/ordeal we tried to 'connect' with our waiter - - thinking it might smooth things and make things more enjoyable - - nope. Despite our smiles and words of encouragement and 'thank you's" for everything from orders taken to water recieved - - never a response or acknowledgement. Never even eye cocntact or a smile. Not mean -- just nothing. We began to think it was "us" - until I realized the table next to us - having arrived right behind us - - still had their menus in hand...so nothing was moving - still - at least they had drinks... and were receiving attention from the waiter, a busman and the manager at times.... The main course finally arrived. The food, I will say at this point, was outstanding. Easily the best of any restaurant during our week on Captiva. But for the service I'd have returned MANY times for breakfast, lunch and dinner - - But the story is not over - Then the bills arrived. The waiter had so messed them up that he had to re-do 2 of them - - and one of those - mine, - he had to completely re-work TWICE. He ripped up the incorrect bills in front of me - - did admit it was his mistake (I hadn't asked). Frankly - we were all completely appalled. At no time did the manager stop by to speak to our table or ask if we were enjoying the evening/meals. nothing. Over the course of the week we spoke to several other resort guests of our experience - and heard they've had "many problems" at Harborside -- have been trying to 'fix things' - - I'd say they have a way to go. read more

We waited for 30 minutes even though there were a lot of empty tables. The host said that they don't seat people unless they have sufficient servers for the empty tables (they did not). They lost a star for that. However, the food was very good, as was the service. My wife and I ordered the two specials: seared tuna, and whole fried yellowtail snapper. Both were cooked perfectly. The snapper was a great size and perfectly prepared. One of the best I've had. read more

I can't speak for their lunches or dinners, but their breakfast buffet was truly horrible. The biscuits and gravy were cold and utterly bland. Link sausage: under cooked. Scrambled eggs: bland. Disappointed with the first round, I put it aside and went to the omelette station, so I could at least get something hot. But it was the same story there: bland. They don't put even a molecule of salt in ANYTHING they make. Sure you can put it on afterwards, but it fails to give your food flavor. It tastes like your shoe with salt on top. Beyond all this, I had to ASK for sweetener for my coffee, and I had to ASK for salt and pepper. The waitress was nice, and she was very apologetic in a way that suggested she'd had to make many such apologies. Very telling. Took 10 min to seat us even though it wasn't busy. However waiter was pleasant and courteous. Meal was tasty...perfect portion size.

This is a gorgeous resort but with the worst restaurant! The menu is unappealing so we have not eaten here. Just had coffee every morning and treated like we committed a sin. The non- Jamaican servers are the worst and hostesses brain dead. We are an American white couple couple for the record. However, had wine two nights and treated very nicely by the Jamaican staff. read more

I wish I could leave zero stars. The first time we came here, the head chief was out of town. The service was amazing, but the food was horrible. We were served three filets and three lobster tails, all being returned because they we extremely rare. We were then told we needed to order something else off the menu, they could not make a filet medium or medium well. The staff was amazing and they didn't charge us for the two and a half hour adventure. Soooo we decided to give it another try this evening for my sisters birthday. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. I called for reservation five hours prior to arrival. Upon arrival we were treated like crap. The hostess told us the kitchen was 40 minutes behind and they could not seat us. We waited, as we have limited options in the resort. We waited for over thirty minutes and then were sat, only to sit another ten minutes without acknowledgement.
