Seared Sea Scallops with white bean and sausage ragout.

Harbourside Restaurant is a little pricey, but they offer a great selection of fresh, tasty seafood and a beautiful view of the marina. We decided to have dinner here our first night at South Seas Island Resort because the restaurant was footsteps away from our hotel room and the fish of the day was blackened grouper...yum! Since we were visiting in the off season we didn't need a reservation, but I suggest making one if you are visiting in the summer. The weather was perfect so we decided to eat outside on the porch. We did have a slight problem with the mosquitos despite the tiki torches. (Luckily, I keep mosquito repellant wipes in my purse.) Once we were covered in bug repellant we were able to enjoy our dinner. Had we not brought the bug repellant I would have had to move to an inside table. The wine menu included a few reasonably priced bottles of wine so we started off our meal with a great bottle of cabernet that was just under $40. I couldn't resist the assorted bread basket brought to our table. The homemade honey butter served with the bread was heavenly! I started off my meal with the house salad half portion and the salad was HUGE! Even though it was delicious I had to stop eating it so I would have room for my dinner. My scallops were perfectly seared. The white bean and sausage looked a little weird with the peas, but it was delicous and I had to dip more bread into the sinful sauce on my plate. My husband's blackened grouper on a plate of wilted asparagus salad was the best grouper I have ever had. The meal was light, yet full of flavor! We skipped dessert so we could walk over to Scoops and Slices after our meal. I would definitely come back to this restaurant during our next visit to Captiva Island!

The service is adorable with their "bubble Scouts "giving you some history of the building and the number of floors to view once your meal is done.. so beautiful so nostalgic so fun a trip back in time. I had the McTirk ( named after Kirk Douglas and Steve, McQueen), a delicious turkey, provolone, bacon, pepper, jelly, basil, mayo, deliciousness wrap. Holy heck, it was so good!! The food was still amazing and the place looks the same with minor changes since the storm. The disappointment here is the front end. They hired a very childish boy as a hostess. Flamey and rude. Very dramatic and rather than trying to help people ( such as locating a restroom) he spews a very long story about where it is instead of pointing to it two feet away. He was talking and laughing about a customer when I came out. I presume me I only needed to wash my hands. He's lucky I didn't tell him off but I didn't want to let him ruin our evening and have my husband hear. He's ( Anthony) a little punk though.

This turned out to be one of our favorite stops on the island so far! We were lucky enough to have Rene as our server--friendly, upbeat, and genuinely helpful. She offered thoughtful recommendations and never missed a beat, even with a larger group. Let's talk food & drinks: Key Lime Frozen Drink - My brother ordered this and it was the standout of the day. Creamy, tart, and tropical. Like Key Lime Pie in a glass! Chicken Tenders & Fries - My daughter gave these a big thumbs up. The fries were golden, crispy, and super fresh--not greasy at all. Chicken BLT - I ordered this and skipped the brioche bun (though it looked amazing!). Even bun-less, it was flavorful and satisfying. Blackened Grouper Tacos - My dad went with these and they looked fantastic--fresh, vibrant, and full of flavor. He also had a Rum Runner, which was strong, smooth, and perfectly blended. (Not for the faint of heart!) The poolside ambiance was exactly what you want on a sunny island day--lively music, a splashing fountain, and a relaxed crowd. We didn't feel rushed, and it was easy to just settle in and enjoy the afternoon. Whether you are staying on the island or visiting for the day, definitely make time to stop here. Friendly service, great food, and that laid-back island energy. We will be back before the trip is over!
