Super friendly staff. Well mannered, enthusiastic bartender who paid much attention to the details of his concoctions. The bar area was our favorite spot. A mature clientele filled the restaurant. A few grand babies scattered throughout. Wasn't our first choice, but perfect for seniors , and those who enjoy historical venues. We appreciated its charm and history. Harbourside Restaurant is a little pricey, but they offer a great selection of fresh, tasty seafood and a beautiful view of the marina. We decided to have dinner here our first night at South Seas Island Resort because the restaurant was footsteps away from our hotel room and the fish of the day was blackened grouper...yum! Since we were visiting in the off season we didn't need a reservation, but I suggest making one if you are visiting in the summer. The weather was perfect so we decided to eat outside on the porch. We did have a slight problem with the mosquitos despite the tiki torches. (Luckily, I keep mosquito repellant wipes in my purse.) Once we were covered in bug repellant we were able to enjoy our dinner. Had we not brought the bug repellant I would have had to move to an inside table. The wine menu included a few reasonably priced bottles of wine so we started off our meal with a great bottle of cabernet that was just under $40. I couldn't resist the assorted bread basket brought to our table. The homemade honey butter served with the bread was heavenly! I started off my meal with the house salad half portion and the salad was HUGE! Even though it was delicious I had to stop eating it so I would have room for my dinner. My scallops were perfectly seared. The white bean and sausage looked a little weird with the peas, but it was delicous and I had to dip more bread into the sinful sauce on my plate. My husband's blackened grouper on a plate of wilted asparagus salad was the best grouper I have ever had. The meal was light, yet full of flavor! We skipped dessert so we could walk over to Scoops and Slices after our meal. I would definitely come back to this restaurant during our next visit to Captiva Island! read more

This is a resort restaurant and the inside is very nice as is the patio. I give it 2 Stars because the location is really beautiful and the Raw Bar buffet food was very good. Service is awful and prices are really high. It is a convenient location and sitting outside is nice but the wait staff do not want to be there and their service shows that. It is uncaring and their comments are short and unfriendly. Go off the resort for courteous service. read more

Excellent breakfast buffet. Wide range of foods kept fresh and hot for four hours each day, not an easy task. Staff are professional. We made reservations for this evening and we came in expecting a high quality meal aligned with the upscale menu and prices for the South Seas resort premiere restaurant. There were as many hits as misses. Hits: Corn Risotto, smoked Old Fashioned cocktail, generous wine pours Misses: small portion of grouper with bone left in it, over cooked burger, very small portion of asparagus, uninspired Cuban bread appetizer I'd give it a 2.5 star if I could. The concepts for the dishes are four star concepts and unfortunately the execution of the dishes was a two star performance. read more

Yikes, stay away from this place. Food is way overpriced and the service is absolutely abysmal. There appeared to be only 1 waiter working that night, despite the restaurant appearing to have less than half capacity.  No one came to our table to serve us waters or to take our order.  After 35 minutes of no one coming to our table, we asked the hostess for assistance, but she acted like she couldn't be bothered.  As we were leaving, I noticed several roaches scurrying on the floor.  It's obvious that the staff here could care less about the restaurant and it's customers. The hotel will recommend this place immediately upon check-in, but don't fall for it. read more

Just ok, we went for a appetizer and a drink, prices are expensive - just two glasses of house wine and one crab cake appetizer was over 45 dollars. The crab cakes were good but not worth 18 dollars for them. We sat at the bar, staff could be friendlier. Disappointed with this choice. read more

Disappointed! We have been coming to South seas resort for more than 10 years. Every year the service and quality of the food in this restaurant gets worse. Last night was one of the worst. Had dinner with the family there. Food was over priced, mediocre and lacking taste. Our server was nice but her job calling is not in the restaurant industry. She forgot drinks we ordered. Some she brought back after reminding her other drinks she kept forgetting to bring and we never got them. Spilled food as she brought items to the table, and to top it off after running our check ( which I don't understand why they need our room key for that) she gave us the wrong room key which we didn't realize until we were trying to open the door of our room. Management, you need to do something about this restaurant soon! It certainly doesn't pair w the quality resort you are in. read more

Have spent many years in Captiva on vacation. This was the last straw. Never will we return to eat in this place. It took 1.5 hours to get food. Which I don't need to say was like warm on arrival. Oysters took an hour to shuck. Flank steak portion the size of a hamburger but the price of a Miami Steak House. I can keep going on but what's the point of it, the management tried to bribe us with free dessert but the kids were too tired by that time. The next morning one person in our group went there for a buffet breakfast. In a half empty restaurant he was told he had a fifteen minute wait. The host was obnoxious and complained to him that he was alone and it was hard. Really to seat one person? In a buffet? He wasn't even a server or busboy. For a real meal either make your own or go anywhere else in Captiva. read more

My husband and I stayed at the South Seas a couple weeks ago for our babymoon weekend. We live in Fort Lauderdale and didn't want to go too far just in case. We fell in love with this resort and the main staple restaurant Harbourside Restaurant. Though nothing in the resort is really open late late night, this is the place to be for a drink. They had live music outside on the docks and really the only bar in the area after dusk. We also had the breakfast buffet one morning, which was kind of pricey at about $20 each, but it was well worth it. There was quite a large selection of options and it was constantly being filled by more fresh food. There was a juice bar, cold cereal, parfaits, a chef to make you an omelet of your choice and plenty of eggs, bacon, french toast & sausage. Yum! Since we had such a great breakfast we figured we would try the restaurant for dinner and again were not disappointed. For an appetizer we had the crab cake, which I have to say was one of the best I've ever had. Honestly, it was all mine. I considered ordering another. Delicious! My husband had a scallop entree and I had the seafood fettucini. Both of which were excellent! Once again the dinner was a little pricey as it came in around $100 with tip and that's only with one person drinking. May have come down a little if we would have split a bottle of wine. Next time! Our server was attentive, but not down your throat. A perfect evening! Will definitely return to the South Seas and this restaurant. A+! read more

Wow! Wow! Wow! Beautiful setting, great wait staff, terrific food! We rode our bicycles here for breakfast and enjoyed the tropical atmosphere Harborside, looking at the yachts in the lovely harbor. Our veggie omelette was excellent ...we've have never!!! Fresh fruit went with it along with potatoes and a choice of bread. Lattes and coffee completed our breakfast. Well, we walked in with high expectations since it seems this is the nicest restaurant on the resort. We were highly disappointed. They weren't overly busy. First let's start with the lighting. It was a beautiful restaurant and we were seated in a corner with very little to absolutely no lighting. The server didn't seem to know the menu and we weren't offered any features. We were prepared to order a beautiful bottle of nickel & nickel but ended up sticking with the cocktails. At least the bartender knew what was going on. The manager seemed interested in us at first but weren't checked on. The server seemed annoyed and the food was just "corporate." That's the best way I can describe it. It wasn't worth the $250 bill. Me and my family went here after our wedding and I must say, everything was to die for. we had three appetizers which were, the crab cake, oysters, claims, and fried squid. All three were delicious and the sauce that came with the fried squid was delicious. The salads were great, I had both the Caesar and the Tomato one. If you wanna stick to what you're comfortable with, go with the Caesar. For my entree I had the grouper which was prepared amazingly! I got to eat a fish eye for the first time and fish tongue. The Harbourside gets a nice middle of the road score due to its ups and downs tonight. The location is absolute dinero (money) looking out on the sunset right next to the water. However, the staff continued to dim the lights throughout the night making it difficult to see. The Filet Mignon was unbelievable to go with the their signature potato mash. But the lobster served was either poorly made or a bad batch because the taste and odor was foul. The portions and prices weren't great but not bad. The s'more lava cake sounds better than it actually is. Overall, the filet mignon really brings this rating up but it was an average meal. read more

What do you get when you have a large resort with minimal restaurant options knowing it has a captive (no pun intended) audience? A restaurant with at best mediocre food with a barely rotating menu of typical "resort" offerings (you know, the fresh local catch which is generally something not even local to Florida at ridiculous prices), lackluster service and barely a care in the world... Also known as Harborside. Have been coming here for many years on vacation and am really hoping a major overhaul is in the works. From the menu to the decor to the wait staff (at least the ones we encountered), there is a thin line between managing your anchor resort restaurant as a place where people want to eat vs. one they have to eat because of few options.... Unfortunately Harborside is leaning more and more to the latter. Hope to be able to update this review in the future but for now, there is nothing redeeming about the place. read more

For being 1 of 2 restaurants open in South Seas Resort, you would hope it to be fantastic. But that wasn't our experience. We needed to order take out due to sleeping babies. We went online to pull up their menu which was harder then it should be. Once we found it and we're ready to place our order, trying to get them on the phone was another headache. The phone number they had listed was busy for quite a while. Then we got through and it was a number to the operator for the whole resort. We had to be connected to the restaurant and it still didn't work so we needed to call the operator back. Once we finally got through, we were told we couldn't order what we wanted because it wasn't on the menu any longer. They admitted that the menu online hadn't been updated and therefore we were out of luck. My husband had to go down to the restaurant to take pictures of the menu so the rest of the family could see the menu and then order. All of this added so much headache and time. Once we placed our order, our VERY expensive order at that, my husband waited for 45 mins to get our food. When he finally came home with our food, we were very disappointed with the portion sizes. And the presentation for take out was far less then expected. When spending more then $20 - $30 per entree, there is an expectation that you'll get what you paid for. We felt very let down. The food tasted good, but it just wasn't a great experience. All around, the service was poor, the execution was poor, the food was good but not worth the money spent. What a bummer! read more

My family and I dined here while staying at the South Seas Resort. My husband and I both had the redfish with tri-colored potatoes and veges. While the fish was good, it was pretty darn small and we got about 5 bites of potato and maybe 4 bites of vegetables. Our kids had pasta and a hamburger. The kids' meals came with two slices of apple and a spoonful of yogurt. No vegetables were available with the pasta and fries came with the burger. Kind of wish they caught up to speed where vegetables are offered with kids' meals and then if parents are wanting french fries for the kids, they can ask for those. The view was very nice, service a bit slow, unsure if we would return. read more

Had a great experience at Harbourside! Food: Expect $25-$30 per entree. With that said...I think I had grouper, my wife had triple tail. They were both cooked perfectly! They were cooked all the way through but not over done. The seasoning was delicious! Mine was served with mashed potatoes and vegetables, all also delicious. My wife had mashed cauliflower it was also very good. I give them an A+ on food, especially after the bubble room the night before. Service: We had a party of 11 with three small children and they sat us immediately. As long as you get there before the sunset, you will not have to wait. The sun sets on the other side of the island and everyone watches it before coming to eat. Our waitress did a great job with all 11 of us. Atmosphere: We sat out on the porch in late December and it was delightful! No complaints here. read more

South Seas Resort dropped its Plantation moniker after an '06 hurricane wiped the developer smile off its face, along with most of Captiva's barrier vegetation.But both Nature and new commerce is grand, so South Seas Resort is back for the world to enjoy. Rooms are tastefully redone, crisp and clean. Trolleys and bikes are plentiful, but more attention could be paid to actual bike paths which are sorely lacking. We found the Harbourside resto to be quietly elegant, overlooking the yacht harbor. Veyr moist fish and divine fruit cocktails. Inside, the atmosphere is tooled for rowdy families. This is a no cash resort, and one has to be a guest to visit the amenities. Summer offers deeply discounted visits. A gorgeous beach lined with re-nourished dunes and seagrass is waiting for you, any time of year. read more

My husband and I had a horrible dinner at Harbourside Bar & Grill last night. We arrived and enjoyed great live music, however as our food came out we were sadly disappointed. The fish dip appetizer was a lot of ranch dip and old veggies. My pasta seafood was extremely fishy. My husbands hanger steak smelled and tasted rotten. He sent it back for a NY strip, which came out raw. We couldn't even eat our meals. The manager offered us a free beverage or free breakfast, but we didn't want to come back. Too many other good places to eat on the Island, so don't waste your money here. read more

Had an expensive and average meal last night around 9pm. I agree, don't go late. Food was over cooked and staff was in a hurry for us to leave. Our waiter tried to b patient and helpful to our kids. He offered substitutions....which helped. My $18 cheeseburger was overcooked and dry and my fries came to the table cold. My husband and daughter's Black Grouper (special of the night) was overcooked also. We did not complain because it was late and we felt pressured to hurry because of the staff setting up for breakfast(which was loud and distracting). Comfortable decor and the waiter was nice, but too expensive for mediocre food. Maybe better if seated earlier in the evening.?.? read more

Waiter was friendly and polite but inattentive to serving our needs. We had to ask someone else for the bread which is served at the start of the meal. When it was served it was as fresh as yesterday bread. I ordered snapper dish. Very over cooked and dry. My wife ordered a pasta dish. It was very bland. So sad. This restaurant has a great location. They need a great chef and new wait staff if they do not choose to be professional about their service. Fourth of July and less than 15 customers. With all of the homes, hotel guests and people on this island the place should have been packed. read more

Our food was delicious!!!!!! It was the best meal we've had on the resort. We were lucky to get a comp'd meal so we were not stressed about the prices. Crab cake was delicious, the onion and tomato salad was even better than I hoped for and the filet steak was melt in your mouth. The bread they brought to the table was tasty too. The only part of the meal that wasn't outstanding was the warm apple crisp. A pie from the freezer section of your grocery store would have been better. If you can handle the prices, which I imagine you can if you are staying at the resort and already stomaching 10.00 for a hotdog, go here and get food that will actually taste yummy! I was going to give it 3 stars but I realize that it is actually a very good Resteraunt and I tend to like more eclectic settings. It's everything you would expect from a high end place, excellent food,very polite and good service and the prices you would expect for such.I was very impresses with the breakfast buffet (even though I typically do not like buffets) this one is excellent. Stayed on the resort and thought this place looked like a nice place to eat. Table for 12 was reserved and the service was just ok. Two women requested one crab cake with a salad. Waiter brought them two each and said it was "standard". Ugh. Then one of the kids wanted pasta and the waiter upsaled to this high end pasta dish. Also, drinks were just weak and beer selection was weak. One I wanted they just ran out. Food portions were small, and the overall experience will make us not go back. Don't even get me going on the price of everything. Plenty of other options on the resort or slightly off. read more

We ate here while staying at South Seas. It seemed empty, but was a very good meal. They catered to our kids, ages 3 and 5, by bringing out "appetizers" (apples and yogurt dip), pretzel dinner rolls, and bendy straws. We both had fish dinners - again, very good with good service. Omg! This place! I cannot even describe to you how disappointing my breakfast was this morning! Incredible resort, awful restaurant!! In my hotel package we got 2 free meals for my family of 4 and let me tell u, the rest of the weeks meals will go to waste because I am NOT RETURNING! I ordered a simple bagel with cream cheese and a fruit cup. The fruit tasted like styrofoam and the bagel was not cooked in the slightest. My mom ordered eggs and they were about as dry as the service was. The waiter messed every order up and was very delayed. We did not get our food for an hour! Very annoying for people that want to get to the beach and pool early! The prices were absolutely ridiculous. If it were better quality food, I wouldn't care. But this was not. The food tasted old and had absolutely no flavor. Extremely disappointing my free breakfasts are going to waste although it will be significantly cheaper getting my bagel and coffee at Starbucks for the rest of my vacation. Extremely extremely EXTREMELY annoyed at the service and will not be returning. I recommend save the money on the family breakfast and head over to Starbucks. It never disappoints. read more

Arrived to find a 4" cockroach crawling down the wall about to land on the hostesses arm. Ran at her and the assistant manager was able to catch it. Dinner followed (yes, stayed) and it was fairly good. Got the bill and no discount, nothing. Not even a free dessert. Wow. I even brought it up to the poor hostess who would no longer go behind the stand and she told management. Watch out and keep your hands and feet off the floor and walls. read more

Never ever accept a 9pm reservation at this place. We accepted the reservation being it our 1st night on the island and too tired to venture out to find another place. We checked in with the hostess at 8:50pm and were told we would have to wait 10-15 minutes. After 10 minutes we went in since most of the restaurant was empty. The hostess forget that we were waiting. Once we were seated, the waiter took our order but neglected our drink order. After receiving our appetizers, we finally placed our drink order. The caesar salad was drenched in dressing and tasted like it sat out for hours. Our entrees came out and were meager for the $30 price tag. The snapper was delicious but my mom ate it in 2 bites. I get more food for the same price in NYC. I had the roasted chicken with carrots and asparagus. The chicken was drier than dirt. I couldn't eat it. While we were eating all of the waiters were moving tables around, polishing the silverware and setting up for teh morning's breakfast service. Couldn't even enjoy a conversation with my family due to the noise. Once we finished at about 9:45, the waiter came over and went to hand us the check. We wanted dessert but it seemed to pain him that we wanted to stay for dessert. However, we ordered the dessert, peanut butter pie and chocolate cake, but once again small portions and the cake was so dry. We received our coffee, but no spoons or sugar. Overall, the waiter made us feel like we were a bother and didn't care about refilling our water or even asking us if we needed anything else. For the price and the 18% gratiutity put on our bill, it was definetly not worth it. From this experience we won't even go eat breakfast there. Terrible service and small portions. read more
