We were visiting Captiva Island and decided to go to The Bubble Room for dessert. There's restaurant parking, which gets tight, but they do have an additional lot across the street. Note the hours - we came around 3pm and it was closed! They close between lunch and dinner and reopen at 4:30. There are a few other Bubble Room businesses on the block - an emporium (gift shop) an ice cream shop, so we were able to check these places out while we waited for the restaurant to open. They also have a few fun photo ops outside the restaurant, which gives you a good taste of what you'll find inside. In one word, I would describe The Bubble Room as kitschy. There's nothing extraordinary to see here that makes this place a "must visit" - no need to go out of your way. It's Christmas year-round here, which makes it whimsical. The staff were upbeat and engaging, and they were able to jazz up their uniforms to show their personality. When I visited the women's restroom, I thought it was chuckily that they had lots of male photos on the walls. I imagine the men's restroom returns the favor. The restaurant was filled with aromas of their freshly baked bubble bread and cinnamon rolls. Having just eaten lunch, we came here for dessert only, but the delicious smells made us wish we had room to eat another meal. The Bubble Room has a fun drink menu - many other diners were imbibing. They brought out a dessert tray showcasing the different cake slices and to give you an eye for size. As a chocolate lover, I was tempted to get a chocolate slice (and even the Tropical Breeze which was a yellow fruitcake type looked good), but my research on Yelp told me that the Buttercrunch cake is not to miss! Yelp did not steer me wrong ~ I enjoyed my Buttercrunch cake! If you like butterfingers, chocolate, ice cream, and an Oreo crust, this is the slice for you. The cake slices are huge - great for sharing, so no need to be selfish and order a whole slice for yourself (if you do, you'll probably have leftovers). While I enjoyed my slice, I feel like The Bubble Room relies on its kitsch and quantity rather than quality. I recommend taking the time to get out of your seat and exploring the different rooms to look at all of the decor. Knowing what the Bubble Room was all about, we took the liberty of walking around and looking at the different rooms, and there are several floors - but I wish staff encouraged us to do it. This was my first visit to the Bubble Room, but my partner insisted that I had to try it, and now I completely understand why. We stopped in for lunch instead of dinner, and it turned out to be one of the best meals we had during our trip to Sanibel. We started with the crab cakes served with lobster sauced mango coleslaw, and jasmine rice. The flavors worked incredibly well together, with the sweetness of the mango and rice perfectly complementing the crab cakes and lobster sauce. For our entrées, we had the blackened grouper with yellow rice and black beans. Everything on the plate paired so well, and the grouper was cooked perfectly with just the right amount of seasoning. This took me back to other fantastic fish dishes in other islands like Hawaii, the keys, the Caribbean, etc... The piña colada was delicious and made the experience even more fun because it was served inside a real pineapple. It was refreshing and not too sweet, definitely something I would order again. We finished our meal with the key lime pie, which was the perfect ending. It was creamy, tart, and exactly what you hope for when ordering key lime pie in Florida. Before visiting, I noticed quite a few reviews mentioning long wait times. Thankfully, that wasn't our experience at all. We visited during lunch, so that may have made a difference, but we were seated quickly and received excellent service throughout our meal. Jenna was incredible, funny, and nice. Just about the entire staff has some whimsy about them. Telling us the history of the location and cracking jokes. I can honestly say I would probably drive the four hours to Sanibel just to eat at the Bubble Room again. Not because of the decorations or for the service, (these were great) but because the food left me craving more! The food, the atmosphere, and the overall experience made it well worth the trip. What are random assortment of items! There is a toy train that travels around and a humongous Mickey. The Bubble Room is known for its cakes, but frankly, I wish we had also come here for or at least the flaming cheese. Parking is it designated for restaurant goers. It is close by the beach so they even have a tenant monitoring people to make sure they do not just park and leave. in their courtyard, they have a gem garden with some outdoor seating and a gorilla cage and some other funky aesthetics. great for if you have kids and want to have them fascinated. There's a Christmas theme for a lot of the tables, but there are also a lot of random assortment in the rooms. I ended up ordering the orange crunch, which is one of the most popular items and boy is that thing sweet. With cream cheese frosting and a lot of orange coloring it was good but definitely decadent and sweet. I would say a better balance cake was actually the butter crunch ice cream pie that was cut with ice cream to balance out the sweetness and the heat. I do like how they had sample slices for you to see the size that you are getting and also the type. They do not show the ice cream ones on the sample cake tray for some obvious reasons. I get why the orange crunch is really good. I definitely wish more of my table was more willing to help me eat it because it's definitely a lot for one person. Definitely do not sleep on exploring the other rooms and walking throughout. A lot of people were doing that and exploring the different rooms. The Bubble Room has been open on Captiva Island longer than I have been alive. After Hurricane Ian, they closed briefly to rebuild and this summer we finally were able to go back. Wow. This place is frozen in time that makes me celebrate my inner child and love my current life all at once. This spot is so quirky, it's Christmas all year round, you're surrounded by antiques and collectibles and then the menu is filled with things from land and sea that are delish. I do believe this visit was the first time I have ever had an alcoholic beverage t the Bubble Room since the majority of my memories come from begging my parents to take me to get orange crunch cake as a kid on our summer vacation (still slaps). I opted for a French martini and this was so good! Their twist on the classic drink has basil and I enjoyed that refreshing twist. For dinner, we started with crab cakes and I got the Prime Rib. It was HUGE, and perfectly cooked. If you go to the Bubble Room, it is imperative that you order desert. I don't care how full you are, and I don't care if you do not like dessert. The cakes here are ridiculous. I still remember fighting over them growing up - and it's amazing that after 20+ years of eating them, they taste just as good every time. The best is without a doubt the orange crunch cake, but I also love the coconut cake. There is something about a place that remains the same no matter how much you change. The Bubble Room is a place that has earned icon status, and I am so happy to see it not only reopen, but packed with families making memories. Service is super friendly. 01 March 2026 We are a gang of 5 who decided to storm the Bubble Room on Captiva Island , Florida. Yeah , the place was well fortified and defended by Pirates. But we prevailed. The Pirates were over powered by our voluminous appetite, pleasant demeanor and good looks LOL. This place is amazing. Not so much in a good way but in an idiosyncratic manner. It's called the Bubble Room for a reason. But ya gotta see this place for yourself. Photos of deceased actors are on the walls ,odd nick nacks under our table covered by glass. You get the drift. Well dinner has arrived. My glorious turkey sandwich called the "Turk Douglas" after the famous actor Kirk Douglas. We were served by the Pirate named Ashley who was attentive and efficient despite being busy with other clientele. Everyone enjoyed their food and a good time was had by all. Finally got to check out the bubble room on my recent visit to Sanibel Captiva. They just reopened a few months ago after the hit from Hurricane Ian in 2022. When we got there late afternoon, it was busy so we enjoyed some drinks at the bar while waiting for our table. The different rooms are decorated with different themes. They are interesting. We sat at a Christmas themed table and ordered 4 different desserts (keylime pie, rum cake was surprisingly good, tropical cake and orange cremcicle) to share. They were huge portion and all tasted great. The texture of the cake was moist and fluffy. I think i understand why people rave about their red velvet cake. I will definitely try it next time. I took my own child recently for the first time, and he enjoyed it as well. The service is good, with friendly servers dressed in various degrees of quirkiness. The food is tasty. My wife and I stopped in for lunch Friday (today) and I've got to tell you, in all my years in this business, in all our travels, we've never enjoyed ourselves like we did today. We've lived here three different times, and we've never been to the Bubble Room Restaurant. Service was great! We watched him present the dessert tray to every table and we ended up going home with three pieces ourselves. The music is what I play in my own living room, classic jazz. The decor is very eclectic, with lots of old Hollywood nostalgia, and Christmas, everywhere, everyday! The servers are in Boy Scouts of America uniforms with crazy patches and neckerchiefs. The Bubbly Mary was very good, followed by two drafts. We got the She Crab Soup and the tuna app, both were delicious!!! The soup was perfectly balanced, creamy, but not thick, with the perfect amount of sherry. We followed that with the crab cakes and the muffuletta. I've had muffulettas in NOLA, this is as good, even though it's a unique take. The crab cakes are amongst the best I've ever had. Very well done. The last time I committed three hours to sitting in one place, it involved Hobbits and a bad guy with an army of orcs. I expected service to run on "island time," but this turned into a full-blown dining saga. I get the appeal--fun, eclectic, eccentric décor with lots of vintage collectibles from the 1930s-1960s. That said, it's not nearly enough to keep kids entertained during the hour and a half wait for their entrées. There's only so much "Hey kids, look at that train," or "Do you recognize that actor from a 1950s show you've never seen?" one can offer, even with waiters occasionally torching plates of cheese nearby. As for the food: the bread and cinnamon basket was a welcome start. The tuna appetizer was decent. The pistachio-crusted mahi came with a risotto I really enjoyed, but unfortunately the fish itself was dry as a bone. The coconut shrimp and grouper were solid. The kids' fish fingers portion was generous, though $17 felt steep. French onion soup was forgettable. Garlic shrimp were garlicky and shrimpy. The whole episode took so long we had to have our desserts to go. The cake slices were huge and tasty but glad we could eat them on our own time at home. Overall, an interesting experience--but be prepared to settle in for the long haul, especially if you've got kids in tow. read more

It is always Christmas year round Their story is this was originally a family home, which has been converted into the most unique and entertaining restaurant experiences. Over the last several years the Bubble Room has had a rough time, due to hurricanes striking the island. The restaurant was closed for over a year and has recently reopened. It felt like a fresh new place with all the old touches. We decided to come for lunch and once we checked in we didn't have to wait too long for a table. Lunch isn't as busy as dinner. Once seated our Bubble Scout ( the server) gave us a warm welcome. He informed us that their fryer was broken so they were only making the Carolina Moons (A large portion of homemade thinly sliced fried potato chips. You can add cheese or bacon)* All the chips were vwell done, pretty much burnt. We did send it back and the second batch was not much better. I think with one fryer the oil was just getting to dirty too fast. They were still really good but not as good as years past.. My mother in law's go to entree is the Po Boy. Since the fryer isn't making anything but the moons, our bubble scout talked her into still getting the po boy but saying the shrimp would be sautéed. They were more boiled and it was pretty sad as well. She was definitely disappointed. It only had about 4 shrimp as well, it was a sad looking po boy for sure. My wife ordered the Gone Fishin' (a grouper fillet served grilled, blackened or fried on a homemade bun topped with lettuce, tomato, and tartar) Again not fried, but that's ok, she preferred it blackened. She said it was good and enjoyed it. She wished the fillet was a little thicker. I ordered the Al Capone- (Balsamic glazed chicken breast, grilled and topped with sliced beefsteak tomato, spinach and fresh mozzarella, served on a bun with a pesto mayonnaise)I really enjoyed this sandwich. The chicken was well seasoned and moist and the pesto mayonnaise brought a tang. My father in law had the Bubble Burger (- 1/2 lb. of fresh ground beef, hand pattied and grilled to perfection. Served on a bun featuring our famous Bubble Bread spread) This used to e the thickest burger and this year it looked pretty thin as well. The bubble spread was also not melted so it was sort of like eating a buttered bun with cold seasoned butter. He was disappointed. My sister in law ordered the Turk Douglas (thinly sliced oven roasted turkey breast sandwich with bacon, pepper jack cheese, roasted red peppers, topped with spring mix lettuce, sriracha mayonnaise and homemade guava jam, served on a pita) This is a go to dish for her at the Bubble Room. She said it was delicious. You cant leave without getting a slice or 2 or 5 in our case of cake. My wife and I don't typically like cake...but we will eat a whole giant slice from here. Their cake is so good! We're on vacation so why not. This year we choose to get our cakes from their ice cream shop (in the parking lot....Boops) but I highly recommend getting one to go. I will have a separate review for the cakes. We did not have the best food this year as compared to other years. It felt as though the quality had decreased a little. At lunch time the meals are just the sandwiches, no sides, but at dinner, all the meals come with their Homemade Bubble Bread and Sticky Bun and you have the option to add a Caesar or Greek Salad to your entree for $5.95.We don't mind not getting any sides at lunch because you have to start with the Carolina Moons- a large basket of homemade thinly sliced fried potato chips, to which you must add the cheese and bacon. They are so good, so yummy, crispy, cheesy and oh so delicious. This basket is big! The 5 of us always share it. I will say the Bubble Room had a rough couple of years with all the hurricanes. They were closed for over a year and recently reopened. I was surprised after being flooded, they did not re-do the floors. They kept the carpet. I was worried it would smell damp but it did not. It felt like a fresh new place with all the old touches. The day we went, their fryer was broken so they were only making the Carolina Moons but the first order we received was burnt. All the chips were very well done, pretty much burnt. We did send it back and the second batch was not much better. I think with one fryer the oil was just getting to dirty too fast. They were still really good but not as good as years past. My mom loves the Po Boy which because of the down fryer they would not do. Our bubble scout talked her into the po boy still but saying the shrimp would be sauteed. They were more boiled and it was pretty sad as well. She was definitely disappointed. It only had about 4 shrimp as well, it was a sad looking po boy for sure. I ordered the Gone Fishin' - a grouper fillet served grilled, blackened or fried on a homemade bun topped with lettuce, tomato, and tartar. Again no fried, but that's ok, I prefer it blackened. It was good, I enjoyed it. I do wish the fish was a little thicker, the piece I got was pretty thin. But this is what I usually order. My husband ordered the Al Capone- Balsamic glazed chicken breast, grilled and topped with sliced beefsteak tomato, spinach and fresh mozzarella, served on a bun with a pesto mayonnaise. He enjoyed it, saying it was a very tasty chicken sandwich. My dad had the Bubble Burger - 1/2 lb. of fresh ground beef, hand pattied and grilled to perfection. Served on a bun featuring our famous Bubble Bread spread. This used to be the thickest burger around and this year it felt pretty thin as well. The bubble spread was also not melted so it was sort of like eating a buttered bun with cold seasoned butter. My sister ordered the Turk Douglas -thinly sliced oven roasted turkey breast sandwich with bacon, pepper jack cheese, roasted red peppers, topped with spring mix lettuce, sriracha mayonnaise and homemade guava jam, served on a pita. She always gets this and always enjoys it. You cant leave without getting a slice or 2 or 5 in our case of cake. I DONT EVEN LIKE CAKE but I will eat a whole giant slice from here myself! Their cake is so good! This year we choose to get our cakes from their ice cream shop (in the parking lot....Boops) but I highly recommend getting one to go. Overall I think they are still opening. We did not have the best food this year as compared to other years. It felt as though the quality had decreased some. Granted I totally understand, they had it rough, and the food we did have, apart from my mom's, was tasty. The flavors were there. We would continue to visit each year, we love this place. We even bought gift cards they were selling during Covid to help them. I think they just need to get back into their swing of great food and great meals and they can get back to the higher quality food items. But see you next year Bubble Room! Had a nice experience on our staycation. Captiva is a beautiful island with ample supply of restaurants and beautiful beaches.
