Amazed at how well progress has been made here since the hurricane almost 3 years ago. So worth the trip of season that is.. The atmosphere alone is worth the trip, it will blow your mind. The service is adorable with their "bubble Scouts "giving you some history of the building and the number of floors to view once your meal is done.. so beautiful so nostalgic so fun a trip back in time. I had the McTirk ( named after Kirk Douglas and Steve, McQueen), a delicious turkey, provolone, bacon, pepper, jelly, basil, mayo, deliciousness wrap. Holy heck, it was so good!! Parking is tough...like anywhere in fort myers...always budget in 30 minutes to park and 44-60 minutes to wait for food...this place is a little better in that it is a drive down the island chains to Captiva...most don't have the patience to drive and the people on the island are sparse compared to FM, but less places to eat as well...anyway...onto good stuff: The staff- amazing...the Bubble Scouts...super enthusiastic and unique...think TGIFs but with scout uniforms (they'll tell u why)...friendly and kind despite the tourists they deal with all day... Food...unique...not big portions or the selection of FM but every dish has a fun spin...we had the flaming cheese and garlic shrimps...they light the cheese on fire at the table...OPA! The dessert is why you came there! BEST CAKE IN THE STATE! No seriously, legit could come here and just have cake for dinner...orange crunch cake is a must but the tropical island cake is delicious as well and was our family's fav overall... 01 March 2026 We are a gang of 5 who decided to storm the Bubble Room on Captiva Island , Florida. Yeah , the place was well fortified and defended by Pirates. But we prevailed. The Pirates were over powered by our voluminous appetite, pleasant demeanor and good looks LOL. This place is amazing. Not so much in a good way but in an idiosyncratic manner. It's called the Bubble Room for a reason. But ya gotta see this place for yourself. Photos of deceased actors are on the walls ,odd nick nacks under our table covered by glass. You get the drift. Well dinner has arrived. My glorious turkey sandwich called the "Turk Douglas" after the famous actor Kirk Douglas. We were served by the Pirate named Ashley who was attentive and efficient despite being busy with other clientele. Everyone enjoyed their food and a good time was had by all. My sandwich was delicious and my root beer was great too. All in all this is a place to be seen if ever held captive by Pirates in Captiva Island. read more

Finally got to check out the bubble room on my recent visit to Sanibel Captiva. They just reopened a few months ago after the hit from Hurricane Ian in 2022. When we got there late afternoon, it was busy so we enjoyed some drinks at the bar while waiting for our table. The different rooms are decorated with different themes. They are interesting. We sat at a Christmas themed table and ordered 4 different desserts (keylime pie, rum cake was surprisingly good, tropical cake and orange cremcicle) to share. They were huge portion and all tasted great. The texture of the cake was moist and fluffy. I think i understand why people rave about their red velvet cake. I will definitely try it next time. This quirky, always-Christmas restaurant is always fun to go to. I've eaten here every time I've visited nearby Sanibel since I was a kid. I took my own child recently for the first time, and he enjoyed it as well. The service is good, with friendly servers dressed in various degrees of quirkiness. The food is tasty. I've been to the Bubble Room over 20 times but my previous review is for Boops, before it was named Boops. So let me give the restaurant its proper review. This is an iconic eclectic restaurant. All sorts of memorabilia from the 1920s-1940s are on the walls, ceilings and in the tables. Servers are well trained bubble scouts. Menu items are fun named and the food is delicious. Jessica connected as soon as I entered, even though she was swarmed by people trying to get sat. Robert was our server, and he was great with all his tables. We watched him present the dessert tray to every table and we ended up going home with three pieces ourselves. The music is what I play in my own living room, classic jazz. The decor is very eclectic, with lots of old Hollywood nostalgia, and Christmas, everywhere, everyday! The servers are in Boy Scouts of America uniforms with crazy patches and neckerchiefs. The Bubbly Mary was very good, followed by two drafts. We got the She Crab Soup and the tuna app, both were delicious!!! The soup was perfectly balanced, creamy, but not thick, with the perfect amount of sherry. We followed that with the crab cakes and the muffuletta. I've had muffulettas in NOLA, this is as good, even though it's a unique take. The crab cakes are amongst the best I've ever had. Very well done. We loved this place!!! Its was so funky and cool. There was so much to look at I didn't know where to look next. The food was great too and the BUBBLE SCOUTS, how cute. The last time I committed three hours to sitting in one place, it involved Hobbits and a bad guy with an army of orcs. I expected service to run on "island time," but this turned into a full-blown dining saga. I get the appeal--fun, eclectic, eccentric décor with lots of vintage collectibles from the 1930s-1960s. That said, it's not nearly enough to keep kids entertained during the hour and a half wait for their entrées. There's only so much "Hey kids, look at that train," or "Do you recognize that actor from a 1950s show you've never seen?" one can offer, even with waiters occasionally torching plates of cheese nearby. As for the food: the bread and cinnamon basket was a welcome start. The tuna appetizer was decent. The pistachio-crusted mahi came with a risotto I really enjoyed, but unfortunately the fish itself was dry as a bone. The coconut shrimp and grouper were solid. The kids' fish fingers portion was generous, though $17 felt steep. French onion soup was forgettable. Garlic shrimp were garlicky and shrimpy. The whole episode took so long we had to have our desserts to go. The cake slices were huge and tasty but glad we could eat them on our own time at home. Overall, an interesting experience--but be prepared to settle in for the long haul, especially if you've got kids in tow. read more

The drinks were incredible too--the Pink Flamingo was so good, I honestly wanted to go back for another one before we left the island. The food was absolutely amazing. Recently my family and I went to one of our favorite restaurants, The Bubble Room. Every summer this is a stop when we come to Captiva. The Bubble Room has 3 floors of dining which are all fully decorated with retro "Bubble Lights", moving trains, photos of musicians, stars and starlets from the Golden Age of Hollywood, and of course over 3000 antiques from the 30's and 40's. It is always Christmas year round Their story is this was originally a family home, which has been converted into the most unique and entertaining restaurant experiences. Over the last several years the Bubble Room has had a rough time, due to hurricanes striking the island. The restaurant was closed for over a year and has recently reopened. It felt like a fresh new place with all the old touches. We decided to come for lunch and once we checked in we didn't have to wait too long for a table. Lunch isn't as busy as dinner. Once seated our Bubble Scout ( the server) gave us a warm welcome. He informed us that their fryer was broken so they were only making the Carolina Moons (A large portion of homemade thinly sliced fried potato chips. You can add cheese or bacon)* All the chips were vwell done, pretty much burnt. We did send it back and the second batch was not much better. I think with one fryer the oil was just getting to dirty too fast. They were still really good but not as good as years past.. My mother in law's go to entree is the Po Boy. Since the fryer isn't making anything but the moons, our bubble scout talked her into still getting the po boy but saying the shrimp would be sautéed. They were more boiled and it was pretty sad as well. She was definitely disappointed. It only had about 4 shrimp as well, it was a sad looking po boy for sure. My wife ordered the Gone Fishin' (a grouper fillet served grilled, blackened or fried on a homemade bun topped with lettuce, tomato, and tartar) Again not fried, but that's ok, she preferred it blackened. She said it was good and enjoyed it. She wished the fillet was a little thicker. I ordered the Al Capone- (Balsamic glazed chicken breast, grilled and topped with sliced beefsteak tomato, spinach and fresh mozzarella, served on a bun with a pesto mayonnaise)I really enjoyed this sandwich. The chicken was well seasoned and moist and the pesto mayonnaise brought a tang. My father in law had the Bubble Burger (- 1/2 lb. of fresh ground beef, hand pattied and grilled to perfection. Served on a bun featuring our famous Bubble Bread spread) This used to e the thickest burger and this year it looked pretty thin as well. The bubble spread was also not melted so it was sort of like eating a buttered bun with cold seasoned butter. He was disappointed. My sister in law ordered the Turk Douglas (thinly sliced oven roasted turkey breast sandwich with bacon, pepper jack cheese, roasted red peppers, topped with spring mix lettuce, sriracha mayonnaise and homemade guava jam, served on a pita) This is a go to dish for her at the Bubble Room. She said it was delicious. You cant leave without getting a slice or 2 or 5 in our case of cake. My wife and I don't typically like cake...but we will eat a whole giant slice from here. Their cake is so good! We're on vacation so why not. This year we choose to get our cakes from their ice cream shop (in the parking lot....Boops) but I highly recommend getting one to go. I also love the Disney touches and all the items you can find in your table. We go for lunch, it is less crowded and cheaper. Dinner is always busier, with sometimes having over an hour wait and the entrees are a higher cost. At lunch time the meals are just the sandwiches, no sides, but at dinner, all the meals come with their Homemade Bubble Bread and Sticky Bun and you have the option to add a Caesar or Greek Salad to your entree for $5.95.We don't mind not getting any sides at lunch because you have to start with the Carolina Moons- a large basket of homemade thinly sliced fried potato chips, to which you must add the cheese and bacon. They are so good, so yummy, crispy, cheesy and oh so delicious. This basket is big! The 5 of us always share it. I will say the Bubble Room had a rough couple of years with all the hurricanes. They were closed for over a year and recently reopened. I was surprised after being flooded, they did not re-do the floors. They kept the carpet. I was worried it would smell damp but it did not. It felt like a fresh new place with all the old touches. The day we went, their fryer was broken so they were only making the Carolina Moons but the first order we received was burnt. Very unique atmosphere. Christmas tree bubble lights are the centerpiece of the decor. We were immediately seated and greeted by our server. The server gave us a short history of this establishment and took our drink orders. We were given a good review of the menu and placed our order. Food came out pretty quick and was excellent. We ordered dessert to go and tried a piece of the red velvet cake later, oh my goodness. As we exited, we were wished a Merry Christmas (in September), how wonderful. The Bubble Room is back! I've been eating at the Bubble Room since I was in elementary school. I was so sad when Hurricane Ian took it out of commission, so I had to show up for opening night. Our wait at 6:15pm for 5 people was about 40 minutes. The interior looks very similar to how I remember it, just a little brighter and cleaner. Less of that charmingly dusty vibe. The menu seems almost identical although with a few subtle updates here and there. We started off with drinks served in pineapples, If You Like Piña Coladas and And Getting Caught in the Rain. If you didn't sing it in your head, you're lying. The bubble bread was a little bit of a let down but still yummy. The cinnamon rolls were delish and not too sweet. For dinner, our group had Pastablanca with lots of fresh, crunchy vegetables, Smoke in Your Eyes grouper version, Captain Courageous with salmon and coconut shrimp, Tiny Bubble with Crab It While You Can as the Appeteeser, An American in Paris, a lighter take on French onion soup, and a kids pizza. The crab dish had a generous portion of lump crabmeat with a coleslaw. The French onion soup had fried onions on top that added a nice texture. The grouper was fresh and flavorful especially with the grilled pineapple underneath. Veggies were bright and well cooked, though the twice baked potato didn't have quite as much flavor as I remembered. The salmon and the coconut shrimp (captain courageous) won our vote for most flavorful. For dessert we went with Orange Crunch Cake, still the GOAT and had what tasted like less sugary frosting than I remember, which is a good thing. The Key Lime Pie, with its thick slightly brown sugar tasting crust and fresh fruit is still one of my favorites in a community full of key lime pie options. Our Bubble Scout was helpful, friendly and made the night feel special for both the adults and the kids at the table. Bubble Room is still weird, whimsical and wonderful, as it should be. We went to check out the bubble room tues for lunch on my bday trip! Driving out to Captiva from Sanibel was a nice drive. This has been a longtime family favorite, but I have never been here before the hurricane Ian . I was amazed to see how they must've needed to reconstruct this place quite a bit! The good was the ambiance , it was fun looking around at all the memorabilia and the staff was quite friendly - five stars. The challenge there was nothing really for me to eat as someone with egg and dairy allergies (0 stars)- I tried to order a tuna poke type dish, but I was told that I couldn't eat the sauces and that the wonton chips that came with that were put in the same fryer that was used to egg batter things, same with the chips . The server kept disappearing to need to ask the kitchen questions about my food allergies, and it just became an exercise in futility. We asked if they do anything special for your birthday and she said the only thing that they offer is a "candle," I assume if you purchased a slice of cake. Unfortunately, due to my allergies, I couldn't have the cake - so I passed on the candle since I didn't think it would float well in my beer. I had ordered a Stella draft when we sat down and he ordered a Modelo. Both were nine dollars each. He went with a burger, one of his usual options. We were surprised that for such an expensive burger. It came with no sides like fries or chips. I guess you were supposed to order those on the side, but we didn't hear about that. She told us they weren't doing bubble bread today because they were too busy & since this was our first time that didn't mean much to us, but if you look at the reviews, you can obviously see that there is a bread product with cheese that must be some sort of house treat. The bubble bread was on the burger bun as well, but he said he couldn't really taste much of a difference. Overall, you are coming here for the nostalgia and not really the food. The food was overpriced and I obviously wasn't impressed with the options. It would be really nice if they put some stuff on the menu that people with allergies could actually order- I was shocked to find I could literally order nothing...! There is an Emporium across the street that has shirts and knickknacks if you are looking for a souvenir as well as the boops room across the parking lot which has cakes and coffees and ice creams if you don't want to eat at the bubble room itself. 2- is - I've experienced better, for a special bday excursion it was a bit of a let down but a fun stroll down memory lane. read more
