They serve breakfast and lunch 7-2 daily. We arrived 1pm and my wife opted for breakfast in the form of Eggs Benedict, hashbrowns, OJ. I went for lunch - Philly Steak Sandwich, fries, and a side of coleslaw. The OJ was from a bottle rather than fresh squeezed, but that is about the only negative we could say about the place. 4 stars as it isn't high end, or fancy by any stretch, and very informal. The tables - loved them as they were done by Anne of She Sells Sea Shells, inset variety of shells under the glass table top, fun to look at. All booths, made of oak with nice blue cushions - relaxed and being in a shopping center, made for shoppers with bags to drop in for a bite to eat. I noticed the fries were fried in something other than the usual, and the waiter said it was olive oil - added a nice subtle taste you won't find elsewhere. The sandwich portion was a 6" toasted/grilled bun, great beef chopped and grilled on the flat top with diced onion, green and red peppers, topped with melted cheese - delicious - generous portion of fries made for a just right full feeling when I was done. Oh, the cole slaw - small cup, sweet/milk based rather than vinegar, and the sweetness was perfect against the savory sandwhich. We have visited the island over the years, but have never stopped into the Sanibel Café. It was an amazing meal for breakfast and one of our favorites of the week of vacation! We had a group of 10 adults and we were easily seated with plenty of room. The service was amazing and our waitress was so thorough and the food came out extremely fast! I ordered my food dairy free and they were easily able to accommodate, and my huevos rancheros were delicious even without the cheese! A couple in our group had substitutions and the dishes came out perfectly! Highlights were the coconut French toast and the corn beef hash. We also really loved that the tables had shells in them, with little notes about where the shells were sourced from. That detail makes the experience really fun. When we left, we spilled some water and attempted to clean it up, but both the owner and our waitress assured us that it was OK and quickly mopped the water. We were so impressed and will definitely be back for a reasonably priced, delicious, and fun breakfast experience on Sanibel! read more

We first ate at the Sanibel Cafe on our honeymoon, 30 years ago! We loved it. Today we went back for the first time. It was everything we remembered. We ordered what we had 30 year's ago. The Sanibel Omelet, which has shrimp and havarti cheese in it. It is so delicious. They also serve this amazing raspberry jam with the toast. It is so good! The service is so very welcoming. We go to Sanibel Cafe often- the best breakfast on the Island! But I had never tried the Pina Colada French toast! It's the best thing I've had in 'breakfast breads'. Not only dipped in egg, cinnamon and nutmeg, it's got coconut all over it. They are generous with it. 4 pc in a serving and then the pineapple sauce over it is so yummy! I added some syrup on a couple of bites but it doesn't need it- gotta give it a try or order some for all the table to try with their generous egg dishes! Service is wonderful and buy a jelly as you leave, raspberry is my favorite! read more

unfortunately the food was too salty, the cook should tase his cooking before sending it out to the table. I had and an omelet with tomatoes and jalapenos. the omelet was thin and also the ice tea was instant and not brewed all for 48$. compared to lunch we went to cheesburger,cheesburger and for 42$ on carry out we got 2 delicious burgers, fries, and onion rings we could not even finish. I will say the service was kind but they need to up there game if they are to survive. read more

We ate here for breakfast and everyone was friendly from being greeted at the door, to drinks being ordered, to food orders being placed, to food being served. A different waitress greeted us at each step so it was efficient and the food was great. We thoroughly enjoyed our biscuits and gravy and omelet. I have loved this place for a long time starting many years ago when my mom and I discovered it in the late 80's. The food is wonderful. I recently tried the shrimp salad and loved it. The place feels like home with the same tables from pre-Ian filled with shells, and now the beautiful mural on the walls. Enjoyable experience all around. read more

We had a wonderful breakfast here at Sanibel Café. Upon walking in the door, we were directed to sit at a table immediately and was greeted by the welcoming staff. The breakfast menu had so many options to choose from including specialty flavors of French toast which intrigued us the most. Our eggs and meat were cooked exactly how we asked and the food was delicious! When we went to the front desk to pay our tab, they had shelves full of homemade goods which was a nice addition to the overall atmosphere. We ended up purchasing the pineapple jelly and it was so so so good! This hidden gem will definitely receive our business again if we ever find ourselves visiting on Sanibel island. read more

Bland with just the tiniest bit of cinnamon and what tasted like almond extract.... If you're looking for a baseline breakfast this seems like a good option. Avoid the apples. read more

We decided on eating here the last morning of our vacation and are so glad we did. Thanks to Pat, we had an amazing time. I'm glad brunch options were available as I'm not a breakfast person. The grilled chicken sandwich was very plentiful, juicy, and a great value with the fries. The turkey croissant with jam and coleslaw was nice according to my husband who also enjoyed the parm tomatoes as sides. The business has a rush in the mornings that subsides before 12. We have never been here before! Maybe we thought it was going to be too busy? Rightfully so. The crab cake eggs Benedict were fantastic! Perfect poach to the eggs. You can tell that crab cake is hand-shaped, it is not dry and dense. Very good service, nice people. It is pretty small inside but they have the experience to quickly serve a lot of customers! It's nice they were able to save their tables from Ian. They are shadowbox decorated with shells from Sanibel. Nice piece of history. read more

We were in the area for four days and ate here twice for breakfast! I even purchased a Sanibel Cafe coffee mug I "loved" my biscuits and gravy! Added my eggs on top. The biscuit wasn't dry, great flavor but most of all the gravy was delicious with chunks of sausage in it like I love! I'm always reluctant to try Biscuits and gravy...how can they go wrong? Believe me I had some bad ones with no taste, no sausage cheap dried out biscuits...but NOT HERE! I wanted more and I was so full!!! The regular breakfast was delicious too! Bacon cooked perfectly. Had two eggs scrambled, bacon and hash browns. Eggs were fluffy, bacon well cooked and crispy hash browns. No onions in the hash browns. My husband had a panini, coleslaw and black beans. No unique preparation or ingredients to make it stand out. Service was attentive. And kitchen fast. Food out in 10 minutes on a quiet Monday lunch. Small interior with about 20 tables. The tables are interesting with wheels under the glass tops. The uniqueness stops there. Given all of the great local options, I'd pass on this one. read more

Very average. The service was fast and friendly but food just OK. The Mediterranean panini was good. Feta, tomato, spinach and black olives. Less spinach and kalamata would have made this much better. Liked the cole slaw. On the sweet side. Black beans had no taste. Canned black beans just warmed up? Restaurant itself was fun. Various pictures on wall were fun to read along with glass top tables with shell designs. Probably won't be back as we know we can do better. read more

It's important to support all businesses during this pandemic and spread the word about those that are going the extra mile!!   We are visiting Sanibel Island this is our last day. It's been very difficult to explore everything the area has to offer with COVID19 going on. We've driven by Sanibel Cafe several times thinking it was a tourist trap. We really wanted to eat at family owned restaurants. To our surprise we LOVED this place! We ordered Belgium waffles, pancakes, bacon, eggs, coffee & hot chocolate. Everything was fresh, delicious and served by friendly faces. Even bought a tshirt, lol. This was a great last memory of our stay on the Island. read more
