Recently my wife and family when to the Green Flash Waterfront Restaurant, located on Captiva Island. This is one of the more unique restaurants. Situated on the waters of Roosevelt Channel, the Green Flash overlooks the Intracoastal Waterway, the waters of Pine Island Sound, and Buck Key. The Green Flash can be navigated by boat and is located southwest of Marker 38 on the Intracoastal Waterway. Once we checked in with the hostess, we were taken to our seats immediately. The entire dining room overlooks the Intracoastal waterway. It's such a beautiful sight while dining. When our server came and greeted us, we were ready to order. My sister in law and I ordered the Pan Seared Diver Scallops- with a saffron lemon cream sauce. For sides I got polenta and she got spaetzle. I thought the scallops had a nice sear. The saffron lemon cream sauce was delicious. My wife ordered the Seafood Sampler(Oyster Rockefeller, Fried Scallops, BBQ Shrimp wrapped in bacon, Steamed Shrimp, and Fresh Fish Filet) my said she enjoyed her meal. I asked her what the fish filet was, she didn't know but it tasted good. My mother in law ordered the Captiva Salad(Mix baby greens, mandarin oranges, asparagus, artichoke hearts, smoked salmon, pan seared scallops, seared shrimp, and blue cheese) She always gets this dish every year. Tonight she said it's still her favorite. My father in law ordered the peel and eat shrimp. He gave me thumbs up needless to say the dish was good. Green Flash is always a stop for us while in Captiva. We shall return for sure. read more

The Green Flash is located on Captiva Island and has been a great lunch spot for our family for many years. In recent years we have been going for dinner and where my whole family enjoys it, I just do not love it. I cannot seem to find the item I really love. However, the views alone are fantastic, especially on a sunny beautiful day! The entire back wall is all windows so everyone is looking out on the water and boats pulling up and docking to eat. They have a private parking lot which is small and can get really crowded. They also are located on the second floor so you can use the stairs and ramp or head to the back and take the elevator. There is a bar right inside when you first go in and can just visit to sit at the bar. We made a reservation and it was challenging to get one. We had to adjust days and they were very busy. I would recommend a reservation unless you want to wait or have a small party. Our server was very nice and polite. She seemed a little overwhelmed and did not refill waters or anything. However she was so sweet when my mom did not like her cocktail and wanted a different one. My husband and I ordered espresso martini's which were delicious, my mom tried a cosmo and did not like it, so she also switched to an espresso martini. They start by bringing you warm sourdough bread and butter. I love any meal that starts with bread! My husband and sister ended up ordering the same, they ordered the Pan Seared Diver Scallops- with a saffron lemon cream sauce. My husband chose polenta for his side and my sister got spaetzle. The scallops had a nice sear and the saffron lemon cream sauce was delicious, however, it was small and one of the most expensive items on the menu. My husband was still slightly hungry. I chose something new and got the Seafood Sampler which had a Oyster Rockefeller, Fried Scallops, BBQ Shrimp wrapped in bacon, Steamed Shrimp, and Fresh Fish Filet. I was looking at the BBQ Shrimp on its own but after speaking to the server, that only came with 5 shrimp and for a couple of dollars more, I got the sampler. It just seemed like a better deal. It was good to be honest. I did actually enjoy my meal. The fish was a little cold and I did ask for butter to dip the shrimp, that took awhile so most of my food was on the cooler side. Nothing came out piping hot which was a disappointment for me. I gave my oyster to my mom. I also chose the scalloped potatoes as my side. I think I just want a baked potato and they don't have that! My mom ordered the Captiva Salad which is Mix baby greens, mandarin oranges, asparagus, artichoke hearts, smoked salmon, pan seared scallops, seared shrimp, and blue cheese. She loves this dish and has gotten it a few times. My dad ordered the peel and eat shrimp, which he loves. Its simple and plain for his stomach. I will say that all the food was coming out fast but nothing was extremely hot which was weird. Their prices can be very high, it was well over $250 for our family of 5. I know its fish and seafood, but to me, to have luke warm food and pay over $250 is just not worth it. My sister did have to send hers back for being cold cold and the owner did come over which was nice. I kind of thought he would give us a free meal or take some money off, but he did not. It took a bit for her to get her meal too so we all ate slower which again didn't help with the temp. I just felt for ice cold scallops the recovery could have been better. MY favorite part of this restaurant is the bathrooms. They are weird and unique. The men's bathroom (I sent my husband in to check it out) has a one-way mirror. As they are using the bathroom, they can look out onto the bar! WHAT! It's so funny to me. The bar only sees a mirror and have no idea that the bathroom is staring at them! The women's bathroom has a mannequin when you walk in. It literally startles me every single time. I have no idea the story behind this, but it makes our family smile and laugh every single time! All in all, this is a great place. Its unfortunately not my absolute favorite on the island but it is for sure in the top. I know this is a spot we will visit each year. This restaurant came recommended to us by our friends and it didn't disappoint. A very welcoming decor in the main dining area with nice views of the marina/inlet. The creative menu offers many seafood and meat lovers options to choose from. My wife and I try to get as much grouper as we can when in Florida and there are two unique dishes we ordered that were just delicious: Stuffed Grouper and their "Cafe De Paris" prepared Grouper. The AuGratin potato side dish went well with our entrees and house vegetable. As much as I like key lime pie, their sorbet version was nice but I wouldn't write home about it. We had a chance to venture out to Captiva and remembered this spot from a visit some 15+ years ago. We dined at an odd hour late afternoon and they offer a very limited menu, a subset of their lunch and dinner. That was fine. We were promptly seated on their nice outdoor patio. Some diners arrive by boat. As others have mentioned service was a little slow, but adequate. Our waitress suggested the fried grouper sandwich, which was tasty, but our fries were cold and soggy. I did mention to our waitress who apologized and brought out a fresh batch. I also tried the bisque which was tasty enough, nothing exceptional. The Painkiller cocktail on the other hand was outstanding! The view here is more impressive than the food, but there are not many choices on Captiva. read more

Our group stopped in for lunch on a Saturday while boating around Captiva Island. We arrived around noon and there were still a few spots to tie up your boat. We navigated in and made our way up the dock. The restaurant is very pretty from the outside. It overlooks the water with lots of windows bringing in natural light and one of a kind views. We were seated right away for our party of 4. Not long after we arrived a Bachelorette party arrived on a tiki boat which I thought was so cool. By the looks of the restaurant, this is a go to spot for many. Our server mentioned some different cocktails and special menu options and I took her lead. I can't remember the name exactly, but I ordered almost like a pint colado but on the rocks with more of a pineapple taste. The drink was so good. It was tropical and refreshing. Just what I wanted on the warm day. My brother and I ordered the teriyaki chicken sandwich with pineapple. The chicken was delicious and cooked perfect while saying juicy. The sauce and sweetness of the pineapple made for a great combination of flavors. It was also topped with tomato, onion, and lettuce. Four of us went for late brunch and sat by a window looking out over the water on a warm day away from the freezing cold of home in Providence. Our server, Milita, was enthusiastic and efficient. We visited the green flash after a day at Bowman's Beach for an early dinner. Always great scenery limited seating though so we couldn't sit outside but great view from the inside. The staff was super friendly. Everyone greeted us. The food was pretty phenomenal as well. I got the grouper sandwich which is their signature sandwich and it didn't disappoint. Very flavorful for the fish. The kids food got eaten up. They loved it and the drinks were yummy as well. The shrimp quesadilla was phenomenal too. Still one of my go to places on the island for some food & cocktails, even if it has become a lot more "touristy" over the years. We went around lunchtime after the beach and were able to grab a spot at the bar despite a long wait for tables. The sunny view is nice and their key lime dessert is still great :) read more

We dined here for the first time last night. We were asking ourselves why we haven't tried this place before. We made reservations on the "Open Table" app and arrived early. Ahi Tuna appetizer perfectly seared and sauce adds the sweet, along with the fresh ginger altogether is so tasty. My Stuffed Grouper was full of crab meat and the Bernaise added a rich flavor. SOS had the Atlantic Salmon and loved it. Since was her first time to Florida, we had to have Key Lime Pie. The best flavor and presentation! Went here for birthday dinner [Wednesday] and was sadly disappointed. The view is beautiful and relaxing. The drinks were nothing special - espresso martini, some kind of lime cooler and a couple beers. The food was warm when it arrived and good enough, but for $30-$40 a plate you would think the waitress would have shown back up to see how things were. The wine came but no wine chill bucket. I had to ask the hostess for food menu's. Sofy at the bar seemed pre occupied with the boys at the bar and the relatives/friends who were seated two tables over. She didn't offer water, she didn't offer menus, she was absent! Two hostesses stood at the podium with more empty tables behind them than a Tuesday high school cafeteria, yet I still had to politely ask to be seated outside. Fine. Whatever. Vacation vibes. Then came the fun part: 10 full minutes of sitting at a table while a parade of servers expertly avoided eye contact like it was an Olympic sport. They chatted. They laughed. They walked by us with the determined focus of people pretending to look busy. What they did not do was acknowledge our existence. No water. No "be right with you." Not even a nod. I've had better service from a gas station self-checkout. And listen--I'm the kind of customer who will happily pay any amount of money for a solid, effortless experience. There was a large party absorbing much of servers time but you just can't have people wait that long - someone should've jumped in to help. Server was very friendly and apologetic but this is on the establishment - hire some help to at least handle refreshing water, bringing bread to the table and possibly helping with drinks. And get the drinks out quickly- people are a lot more patient when they have a cocktail. read more
