I was in the area for a work trip. Came here for dinner. This is a beachfront restaurant within the La Playa resort. First impression, the place is really nice, clean, comfortable, and everyone was friendly. I didnt drive but the sign said restaurant parking was only $5. We had a reservation for 7pm, and we arrived a bit early, around 640. We checked in at their front desk, and the girl said we can hang out at the bar and we would get seated at 7 as per the reservation - I could not figure out why we couldn't be seated right away because most of the restaurant was EMPTY on the inside. Whose table are we occupying for 20 mins, and who is going to come to our table in the next 20 mins and leave before it is our reservation time? Anyway, whatever, its fine and we went to the bar, grabbed a drink, and once we had drinks in hand, the girl came to us and said we can be seated at our table now (650) - again, super weird. Why all the fuss for 10 mins. We sat outside on the patio - it is heated with heat lamps and torches. You're basically looking right at the beach - except when it's dark you see nothing. This would be a beautiful place during daylight hours. our servers were great - very friendly and helpful, attentive. No complaints. Ok onto the food. Dishes we tried: beet+butternut squash salad - excellent. great salad, well balanced. For an appetizer, the portion is absolutely massive, no joke. It's a pretty heavy salad. "local gulf catch" which is just their "fish of the day" - I cant recall the fish exactly, but it was a white fish, skin-on, served with some veg. Perfect cook on the fish, flaky, moist, fresh and not mushy. Great dish. Funny enough the one thing that perhaps decreased the enjoyment of this dish was the massive portion - towards the end it got repetitive and I was already stuffed from the salad. key lime pie - this was the weak point - just way too sweet. nice textures and lime flavour. but WAY too sweet. Overall, service was good aside from the bizarre reservation encounter, but not a big deal. Place is nice, food mostly good, very generous portions. Pricing was ok - it was a tad expensive for what you get but not terrible value overall given the portion size and service. I f you're in Naples and you want a beachfront meal with American cuisine, this is a good pick. read more

I was so excited to finally go to LaPlaya Baleen on my recent visit to Naples!! And it did not disappoint!!! This place is absolutely beautiful, situated right on the beach, the service, ambiance, and food was incredible!! Our server was so extremely helpful and polite, we felt right at home! We had a wonderful meal here on May 3, with service by Adriano who provided impeccable timing, a great attitude and humor. Could it get any better? Yes, it could. While placing our desert, he broke out into a delightful operatic song which caused the entire restaurant to stop and listen. We consider ourselves to be fish snobs. Amazing place- right on the water. No better location than this. The staff was efficient but not too fast- I felt like we got to enjoy our entire meal at a pace that was perfect. The jalapeño margarita has the perfect level of spice. The ceviche, beef carpaccio and the calamari all good with ceviche being my favorite. The grouper with risotto was just insane- it was amazing. Tonight we had dinner at Baleen located at The La Playa Beach and Golf Resort in Naples Florida. This is a wonderful restaurant. They have a Michelin Star Chef on their staff and it definitely shows. The food is both delicious and visually appealing (stunning really!) They offered a 3 Course, Prix Fixe (Set Price) menu with choices for the salad, entree and dessert. I started out with the Watermelon Feta Salad. It was so delicious. For my entree I had the Salmon with a pistachio crust, absolutely amazing! For dessert I had the crème brûlée topped with fresh berries and candied apricots. Everything was absolutely amazing, especially the service! I always celebrate my birthday at Baleen's, and last night was as good as always! The service, food and ambience was 5 star all the way. Our waiter, Luis, was absolutely perfect; attentive but not overbearing. No one rushed us and we were able to sit and enjoy the most spectacular sunset! for the price of the buffet, I would have expected a five star experience as far as service when I got up from the table and to get more food, I would expect my dirty plate to be removed from the table and my napkin folded in place back on my chair I would not have to track down a server for more silverware or to try to find a server to get drink drinks.I believe staff needs to be better trained if you're going to charge that price for a buffet on Mother's Day it should be upscale and top ser.. read more

Baleen Naples has a beautiful beachfront setting at LaPlaya Golf & Beach Resort, and the view from the patio is definitely a highlight. The food was good, but a bit overpriced for what you get. When we went for dinner, the service was slower than expected, which took away from the overall experience. It's a nice spot if you're looking to splurge for the view, but just be prepared to pay more for the atmosphere than the meal. read more

We spent a lot of money at this particular restaurant between birthdays and anniversaries that we've spent throughout the years. This past Sunday, we had a large party and not all of us know each other. We were able to split checks in the years past, but they didn't let us know that this year we could not do that until after we all ordered. It need for a very difficult end of a birthday party. Completely ruined the experience. They also tried to charge us a cake fee to cut a cake. They wanted to charge us per person instead of a flat fee. The management did not try to help in anyway. The computer system is very up-to-date and easy to split checks and ring people in separately. When we left at 3 PM, the restaurant was empty and they could've easily done this. Also, a lot of the orders were incorrect. We will not be going back. Which is a shame because we really loved it there. read more

At 8:30 pm I still had yet to get a return call do I called their number er. They picked up and hung up three times. A side note about the gift shop in the hotel.. we stopped in before dinner and the woman was very curt and said she was closing in 3 minutes. Terrible food and service. Only go there for a drink and see the sunset- then leave to eat somewhere else. The burrata salad was criminal. The lettuce was bathing in vinaigrette dressing. The shell of the burrata was tough as leather and inedible and had no flavor. The beet salad lacked flavor as well. Had fritto misto which was cold when it got to table. On our last coastal evening, we selected Baleen as our sunset view dining experience. Tired from 16 days on the road, as we rode from Chicago to SC and Florida, we arrived for a brief stay in Naples. On our month-long road trips, we go from rags to riches. This evening was a raggy kind of day and we decided to make it an eclectic last coastal evening by having an upscale dining occasion. Oh, how wonderful!!! Service, food presentation, flavors, and sunset, as ambiance, are outstanding. Adriano attended to all of our requests and needs in an impeccable professional manner. He is knowledgeable, made excellent recommendations, and answered all of our questions - all with a sense of grace and good humor. For starters, we share Forest Mushrooms Risotto and Baleen Signature Lobster Bisque. Both delicious. Creamy risotto and plenty of a variety of mushrooms could easily be a main dish. The bisque had delicate confetti-size lobster meat, excellent. For our second course, I had the Blackened Gulf Grouper, my husband the Pan Roasted Diver Scallops and we shared the Crispy Brussel Sprouts. My husband selfishly did not share his scallops, he likesd them too much. The grouper was cooked to perfection - firm, flaky, mild flavor. For our third course, we indulged in sweetness from a creamy delicious Crème Brûlée and a Chocolate something with a base of Heath bar that was phenomenal. I had a Barrel Aged Old Fashion (I am an old-fashionista, meaning I try old fashions all over the country) and a Negroni. Both perfect mixology, balanced and flavorful. As we were approaching the end of our epicurean affair, we had a lovely conversation with Georgina (manager??) who pleasantly inquired about our experience. The food selection is appealing & Interesting as it's described on the menu and explained by the staff however I've traveled to many parts of Florida and the world for that matter and have eaten food from Michelin Star & James Beard award wining chefs who has provided much larger portions for much less and have tasted much better. That being said it was extremely disappointing to have this steak entree arrive to my table, after taking the 1st bite it was unfortunately obvious my money could have gone further at Applebee's and I would not have left hungry... the cuisine from what I experienced do not demand the prices their are charging. I had really high expectations. The lunch menu was very limited and they were out of chicken. How is a restaurant out of chicken when there was literally like 20 things to choose from to begin with. We don't drink alcohol and I feel like we were really shunned because of that. The manager visited every table but ours. I ordered the burger well and boy was it black. Plus the burger was paper thin. My husband's Ceasars was ok but with the salmon add on it was $36! Not my thing, seems more like a place to be seen. The bathroom had what appeared to be throw yp in the sink and one toliet had pee all.over it. The restaurant was slow maybe someone could check the restrooms.
