We came here two years ago and could not wait to return on our vacation this year! The conch fritters are a must try, they are so delicious. You could taste how fresh the crab was inside of the crab cakes and the blackened Mahi was perfectly cooked and seasoned, as were the sides. The seafood ravioli was regular ricotta ravioli with shrimp, Mahi, and snapper in an alfredo sauce. The sauce was light and flavorful unlike most heavy, thick alfredo sauces. This BYO is perfect for a date night when visiting North Captiva Island . Reservations are a must- they do not take walk ins. Holy moly! This place is incredible for lunch! I just had a lunch special which is grouper tacos and it was amazing. My friends were teasing me that when we were waiting, I said there's no way I'm going to be able to finish three, they were so delicious that I inhaled them and also finished all the fries. My friends have fishing trips and they were also incredible. The portions were all great. Fabulous atmosphere! read more

Had the most fabulous meal and experience! Quaint and Intimate space that is truly an "over the water" restaurant with a beautiful water view, over the top service and delicious food!! The bird is the word! And we certainly found out when Chef Dave and Kia broke out the entertainment for my daughters 11th birthday dinner! Amazing people, delicious food! I've been to many Michelin star restaurants and this is right up there with them. Granted, the ambiance is very casual and makes you a little Leary of the food quality when you walk in. That being said, there were 2 waitresses, 2 dishwashers, and a chef. They hustled and were making magic happen. We started off with the corn crab chowder, which was hands down the best corn crab chowder I've ever eaten. The chef told us he used king crab and blue crab in it. It was delicious. We also had the stone crab claws to start which were enormous and very fresh. For dinner my husband had the black grouper special and I had the twin lobster tails. Both were very very good. I loved the mashed potatoes and asparagus too. For dessert we had a slice of peanut butter pie. Again, it was great. The place doesn't serve alcohol, but is BYOB so we ran back to the house for a bottle of wine. It was funny to read some of the other reviews that had an ounce of negativity about people being disappointed with kids getting vegetables or that they didn't like their pasta dish. Get a life people! If you want your kids to be healthy or you can fathom eating seafood at a seafood restaurant, this place will be well worth it. We were really excited to try this place until another regular to the island said, "Good luck," when I told her we had a reservation. And now we know why. The steak was crazy over priced for the quality. The fish was salty. And what kid wants rice and asparagus with their grilled cheese. My pasta was good, but that's hard to screw up, which is why ordered it. The service was great. Our waitress was attentive and very friendly. The ambiance was so-so. You'd think that since we made a reservation they could've found a better spot for us other than right inside in the door where everyone squished by us to get to other open tables. The best part of the meal was the wine, which we brought with us because this place is BYOB. And BYOB with a $10 cork fee. Seriously?! We escaped without dessert because who knows what that would've been like. We'll stick to cooking for ourselves after this experience. read more

Wow what an amazing dinner and excellent service. The wife and I each had the blackened mahi mahi with mashed potatoes and steamed veggies (pictured). My son had a pecan crusted sea bass and my daughter had penna pasta with chicken in a creamy vodka sauce. All of the dishes were delicious and the desserts were to die for. By far the best place to eat on the island, very bummed that we found it on our last night. Highly recommend this place, it is leaps and bounds better than the other "fancy" restaurant on the island and about half the price. read more

We chose this restaurant over the Boathouse based on Yelp reviews and I'm so glad we did. Since we weren't staying with the restaurant's associated club, we had to pay an extra $20 for our group of 8. This was our only dinner out all week, so we didn't mind. It's especially nice that you can bring your own alcohol to enjoy with dinner and I feel like that kind of offset the club fee. I loved the chill atmosphere of the restaurant and how cozy it felt. Our server and chef were both friendly without being overbearing - to be honest, WE were probably overbearing due to the BYOB situation, so apologies to the chef lol. I called a couple weeks ahead to get a reservation and had to go with an alternate date because they were booked, so CALL AHEAD EARLY!!! Sadly while we were there a large group canceled their reservation within an hour of their arrival due to rain, which was really so rude for such a small restaurant. So please, don't do this. Our meals were really fantastic. I got the piccata made with grouper and my husband went with the crab stuffed grouper. Both came with veggies, mashed potatoes, a side salad, and roll. We pretty much cleaned our plates but had to stop because we were so full. Out of the two dishes, we liked the piccata better. In general, it just had a more lemony flavor that felt brighter and more enjoyable to eat. They have a good kids menu with an INCREDIBLE homemade mac and cheese. I kept stealing bites from my niece! Seriously, it was so cheesy, buttery, and rich. So so good. Our total for 7 adults and 1 child was around $300 I think. If we ever visit North Captiva again I definitely want to return here for a nice dinner. read more

Our server & host and Chef Dave were warm and friendly. The location is pretty cool right on the water. We were very disappointed with the food. Shrimp cocktail was ok. But other Appetizer didn't taste fresh (tomato and mozz), and the rice and veggies which came with our entree were very bland and overcooked. Worse of it all, our fish did not seem fresh and was over cooked. Blackened Mahi-mahi does not mean burnt to a char on both sides. We're on a tropical island.... can't you secure better seafood? We are long-time vacationers on North Captiva (almost 20 years). Over the Waterfront consistently has been the best food on the island, no question, AND the most reasonable cost-wise. We ALWAYS eat there. Dave is a first class chef, and you can't beat being over the water. Lately (post-COVID), you MUST make reservations before getting on-island at least a week ahead of the game or you won't get a table. Great place with great food! However the reservation button will not take you to the correct place for a reservation. You must call for a reservation. The yelp site has been hijacked by another local restaurant! The reservation button takes you to their place....The Boat House. Dirt pool in my opinion and impossible to change on yelp once it's been done. So call the number and make a reservation. You won't be sorry! read more

Chef took time out of his day to talk to us and the waitress was very nice. The chef also baked us an entire birthday cake for my dad. This is the only restaurant weve been to on the island and I wasnt dissapointed. Menu is small and its a two man operation, make sure to make a reservation because its a very small place. Very friendly, can take a minute because they make everything there. I ordered the crab cakea, they were delish and my husband ordered the ribs and he said they were very good. We recently had dinner at OTW. The food was excellent which based on the reviews I was expecting. However, I was not expecting the overwhelming graciousness of the staff. The chef and the waitress were very attentive and hospital. It was like having a meal at a friend's house. My son is 3.5 and the chef wrapped his pasta in a foil dinosaur and showed him how to feed the catfish outside. This is just above and beyond treatment. It was a really great experience and I can't suggest this place enough. Another related note- the prices are actually pretty comparable to the couple other restaurants on the island but the quality far exceeds our other meals. read more

As you will see on YELP, there is not a number listed for reservations, thus, I assumed reservation were not needed. We arrived at the restaurant at 5:45 pm before they opened at 6 pm and we noticed a reservation on the door and called and left a message asking if they may have room for a party of 6 (on the door it said call for reservation) At 6pm the door opened and a man said "I have one reservation for a party of 5 the rest of you need to leave and call more than 5 minutes before you want to come" and slammed the door in my sons face. I do understand reservations as I tried all day to find a number, however his lack of kindness made me never want to eat there again. With only four restaurants on the island you are limited despite that I would never go there. He can be rude because of the limited choices. I would rather be hungry than patronize a place with no customer service and lack of kindness. read more
