We took the boat tour ro this island and had lunch at this restaurant that gets veeeeeeery busy around lunch time. It's a very tiny island and this is the only restaurant. We had a great time enjoying our meal with live music and a beautiful view on a Saturday afternoon. Food is ok. Like bar food. This restaurant is only accessible by boat and has such a cool history. The place was absolutely packed with folks having food and drinks. Since everything is brought in a boat, it is on the pricer side but it's expected being out in the middle of the ocean! I had a great time at Cabbage Key. At first it seems like a tourist spot, but it's actually a longtime local favorite. Not many tourists know about it, which makes it feel more authentic. The only way to get there is by boat--even the staff take an employee ferry. Some of them even live on the island, which is pretty cool. The story behind this place feels very "classic Florida." Since almost all their food and water are brought in it is a bit pricey for what it is but its about the experience which is worth it. Their signature drink is the Cabbage Creeper--kind of like a piña colada but even better. (Be careful though, they sneak up on you!) I ordered the burger, which was good, but honestly in my opinion, what makes Cabbage Key memorable isn't the food, it's the history with the locals, the island vibe, and the whole experience. read more

Love a restaurant that I take a boat as my transportation. The grounds are beautiful and it's lovely to go up the water tower for a beautiful view. A great location that everyone should go to at least once. You can only go by boat. Famous for their cheese burgers. I tried one and it was only ok. The worst thing about it was the music. This was on our list of iconic spots to hit when in Florida. We were out fishing on a windy Saturday and made a run for this place before the crowds poured in. We got here right at 11am and grabbed a table outside. Given the limited shade it was good they had the super strong fans cooling us down. Our waitress was very efficient given how busy it got. We ordered our beers and then our entrees. Most got burgers which they liked but I ordered the shrimp salad sandwich was very good. We had the experience we will remember for years to come! First off, Kim and Scott welcomed my husband and son (some of us were shopping in the cute gift shop) and found the perfect spot for our family to enjoy the day. Then we absolutely loved CATHY, our lovely server! She was so friendly and kind to our table! Patient and explained the history of the restaurant and the menu items even though we had been to Cabbage Key a few times before, I felt like this was a new experience altogether. It was so perfect and very special! The food was excellent! Everyone devoured their lunch ~~ shrimp salad sandwich, hamburgers, grilled cheese and very, refreshing bar drinks. The rosé was delightful and without asking, extra ice was brought to the table to keep drinks extra cool. And don't forget the frozen key lime pie! I stopped in with family while out on a boating trip. You can only get here via boat. I would highly recommend getting here early. The restaurant opens at 11am for lunch service but fills up very fast, so rush up to get your name on the list. We got lucky to get seated in the first wave of seating. The menu is not very extensive but does offer salads, shrimp dishes, fish, and of course burgers. This restaurant is known to be the reference for Cheeseburger in Paradise. While others at the table did order a Cheeseburger, I ordered the Shrimp salad. The shrimp salad was served over a tomato with sides of coleslaw and potato salad. All really fresh and flavorful. I highly recommend this dish for something light at lunch time. The Cheeseburgers I heard were good too. Here you do pay for water since it is served by bottle. Love coming here! Usually the best service, food is great. Lovely gift shop with super cool shirts. However, we encountered an unfortunate situation here. We were at the gift shop and did NOT see any sign about how the bathrooms by the gift shop are for the people that stay (work here). This one lady (I'm not sure her name) yelled at us and was EXTREMELY rude and told us not to use those bathrooms. It is a short boat ride to Cabbage Key. We saw a lot of dolphins jumping right aside of our boat to put us in a good mood. Sandra then took great care of us and we had a fantastic lunch with the Crab Claw appetizer, "cheeseburger in paradise", the best Key Lime pie, and some Cabbage Creepers. This was our second year celebrating our anniversary at Cabbagr Key. We have stayed at the Inn, the Tarpon Lodge, and the Dollhouse. There is not one bad thing I have to say about the entire island. My happiest memories have been made here. The food is superb, and the staff is accommodating on every level. At one point, I desperately wanted popcorn and Amy (the very best bartender in the universe) brought me her own popcorn maker from home after her shift!' I mean how amazing!?!? Becky was our server for most meals and is a top notch employee. There is no lack of professionalism and kindness. You will feel so welcomed, as if you are at home. Absolutely love the place, food and atmosphere is beautiful, However locals beware the outside upper level tables are being reserved for the ferry tours. We arrived prior to the ferry, went to sit at one of the tables and told it's reserved. This must be new because on Saturday Feb 14th we sat there. Why does this matter because we had to wait about 30 minutes for a table which cut into our other boating plans. read more

Cabbage Key is a destinations. We were staying on the island of Captiva and we rented a boat for the day one of our main objectives was to go to Cabbage Key. As you arrive by boat the dock pastor greet you and helps you tie up your boat and points you towards the restaurant. It's a rustic wooden building fairly well cared for with gopher tortoises digging in the front yard as we approach the restaurant. There is a large water tower on property with a huge nest on top of it, an osprey nest. We had to wait about 10 minutes for seats and we sat in the bar drinking rum drinks that were wonderful. I had a mai tai and it was clearly well-made and full of rum. We ordered a pound of shrimp, peel and eat shrimp for the table and all of our guests ordered an appetizer. I had the Clam chowder and my wife had black beans and rice. One our guest ordered a salad and we all had another round of drinks. The food came out quickly and the shrimp was delicious and my clam chowder was perfect. I think to wear about 20 shrimp on the platter and the shrimp were very good sized. It didn't take long for us to eat the shrimp and we all enjoyed the rest of the food. Our waiter's name was Mel, he was attentive and took care of all of our needs. It takes about to get there but it's a great place to find, I'd recommend it to anyone. read more

We stopped at Cabbage Key for lunch on our way to Cayo Costa. Cabbage Key is just a short 15 minute boat ride from Cape Coral. This open air restaurant is very popular with boaters and the restaurant quickly got packed after opening so arrive early if you don't want a long wait for a table. The menu isn't anything special and prices are on the high side because everything has to be delivered by boat. The smoked mahi fish dip was my favorite thing on the menu and I would definitely order this again. My cheeseburger and coleslaw were average. I probably should have ordered the shrimp deluxe platter instead. Not a deal breaker, but worth mentioning that there is no fryer at the restaurant so there are no french fries. I didn't mind that there were no chicken nuggets or fries on the menu, but I was annoyed that there was no children's menu. I wasn't about to pay almost $20 for a burger that my kids would barely touch. It would have been nice to have a pb&j or kid's pizza on the menu. I eventually convinced the waitress to bring the yogurt on the breakfast menu for my boys because they wouldn't touch the grilled cheese sandwich or rice and black beans that I ordered for them. I am glad we tried this restaurant once since it is in such a unique location, but I don't see myself returning. The menu is limited and expensive and offers no children's menu so it would be easier to pack a picnic lunch on the boat. read more

Stopped by to eat lunch on way back from keys on a beautiful Saturday Afternoon. Was pretty crowded but was able to get a boat slip. We all had to get the Cabbage Creeper, what a great drink. Our food came pretty quickly. The go to is the hamburger with potato salad. If get a chance try it you won't leave disappointed When I say it was crowded it was crowded.
