Buyer beware! He is a liar and will never be at your home. He will continue to use the excuse of... but you will have a beautiful kitchen... of course- I bought all of the materials so I better be. Took over 8 weeks and the entire time it was a complete nightmare. Sitting at one at 8:00 pm one night my front door opens and he was pushy stating it was the granite guys... really a single woman and a man coming into my come that late is not acceptable and is scary. When I called John the only comment he has was that he was doing his job. Also note that I paid $23K on a 12x12 kitchen... he rolls the granite (and I paid extra for it) and the cabinets in. I received a direct quote from the mfg. and they cost 2200. read more

STAY AWAY FROM KENT KITCHENS! AVOID THIS COMPANY! We hired this company to replace our cabinets, backsplash and various other things. Hiring John (owner) has turned out to be a disaster. They use JSI cabinets which have been compared to cheap out of the box cabinets by every contractor that we have gotten quotes from to rectify the problem. They all ask me if I put them together myself? Almost all of the cabinet doors are warped. Also, some of the shelves and a couple of the cabinets themselves are warped. The paint on 2 cabinets is starting to peel and John ordered the wrong size cabinet above the refrigerator and tried to blame me! We could tell right away that that the doors are warped by looking at them and by measuring them. John tried to tell me that you cannot measure a door or cabinet to tell if it is warped. I had numerous contractors tell me John is wrong. John had denied that that they were warped until we FIRED him, then he changed his mind. Then he stated that they need to be adjusted, but his crew tried to adjust them numerous times and they were still warped. John then stated that the doors would (miraculously?) straighten themselves out within the next 11 months. This statement has been disproved by many contractors. We asked him to remove all of the cabinets since we were not happy with them and he refused. The great molding that he was going to put above the cabinets was a 3/4" cheap piece of wood that looks ridiculous and adds nothing to the aesthetics at all. John did not want to order a new half-susan for my corner cabinet wanting to use my 20 year old one instead. John did not care about any of our concerns. When we told John that we did not want the corner cabinet and the extra 3 drawer cabinet, it wasn't what we ordered, he put them in anyway. He did not care about what we said. He just said that's the way it should be. John also called me "asinine" for wanting the job done right. WHO IS PAYING WHO? The warranty for all changes is only through Kent Kitchens so since I FIRED Kent Kitchens I have no warranty and have to pay for all new doors and cabinets that need to be replaced myself. John never mentioned that he was a JSI dealer. Every time we questioned something John always blamed everything or everybody else. Nothing was ever his fault. He even stated that I was the most difficult customer he ever had. AGAIN WHO IS THE CUSTOMER HERE, ME OR JOHN? We also asked about adding glass to the cabinet doors and John stated that we needed to supply the glass for the doors our selves. John also said that we needed to use my half susan in the corner cabinet because JSI did not have a product like that. John LIED! After looking on the JSI website and calling JSI, Laslo (from JSI) stated they do sell glass doors and half-susans. John and Mike (his worker) are two of the biggest liars I have ever met. Neither can be trusted for anything. Except maybe a poor job with sub-standard cabinets. AVOID THIS COMPANY! read more

I recently purchased a condo in Lincoln Park and the last thing that had to be done was the kitchen. I had good cabinets but the doors and counter tops were out dated. You have 3 choices. 1- Refinishing the wood doors and your basically paying for work and ending up with what you began with. Color will be about the same and the scratches removed. 2-Getting new cabinets and for a galley kitchen that will cost $30,000. 3-Refacing is removing the old exterior door and putting on a completely new cabinet face and all new exposed sides.. I chose this this since I got the cabinet look I wanted and it looks like new and at a considerable savings to new cabinets. I would say if your boxes are good new cabinets are a waste of money! So how do you pick the new cabinet material. 3 choices again: 1-wood doors are not the best choice because they scratch and water damage. 2-old veneers materials are better but do not look as good and do not last as long as thermo foil. 3-Kent kitchens use thermofoil doors and they look beautiful and look like real wood but last and that is what I used. They are the material of choice. I am delighted with the work of Kent Kitchens. They are masters of refacing and the product kitchen is beautiful. Kent has an experienced crew and they do high quality work. I could not be happier and I give them 5 stars for exceptional quality work! read more

He was very knowledgeable and helped with the whole process which was great because I knew next to nothing. They refaced my condo kitchen and then I hired them to completely redo the kitchen in one of my rental units. The timing of the rental renovation was important to me and they were very on top of finishing the job fast, if anything I held them back on my end. John helped me design my kitchen remodel and his team did an amazing job with the installation. there initially were some problems with some warped cabinet doors but they were replaced as quickly as possible. i also appreciated the fact that John helped me shop for fixtures and appliances as this was a complete gut job with everything new. this project was completed in the winter of 2014-15. update october 11, 2016: i noticed one of the cabinet doors was "expanding" and texted John last week. he responded immediately and was here today to inspect the door and proceeded to take measurements to replace it. that is what i consider great customer service and follow through. i'm a fan of Kent Kitchens and would recommend them. read more

I hired Kent Kitchens initially for a kitchen remodel in a rental unit last fall. John had good suggestions to keep the costs reasonable. John was was always on time for appointments, the cabinets, counter tops arrived on time and the installation was done quickly to allow for a new tenant to move in on time. I was so pleased with the work, my wife and I recently completed a 2nd kitchen remodel with Kent Kitchens on our owners unit in the same building. John offered many ideas on a higher end kitchen and better quality cabinets. Once again all work was done on time and we were very happy with the installation. John checked with us after the install to make sure everything was done correctly. His installer was there the following day to rectify a minor issue with a couple of cabinet doors. We just had our kitchen remodeled by kent kitchens. We hired John after reading the good reviews from yelp. On the positive, John was very responsive and mike did a clean, beautiful job. On the negative, there were errors due to John doing what he thought we should have, rather than what was ordered by us. We had to pay for his mistakes and we felt that we should have had every detail in writing with a signed off architectural plan. All in all, our kitchen turned out beautifully, but there are some things we would do differently next time. read more

I had a difficult task of finding a replacement part for my cabinet piece that was broken in half. Since the cabinet manufacturer went out of business years ago, this was not an easy fix, especially since I didn't know the name of the part. I searched high and low to find someone who was able to help identify the item and find a replacement for me. I called multiple cabinet makers and none were able to help me. John was the first to reply to my multiple inquiries, quickly and on the weekend too!! I drove the item to him for his review. (He was willing to meet me to identify the item; however, I was embarrassed to have him drive out of his way for such a trivial thing). He knew exactly what the item was, measured the broken pieces, and ordered it for a very minimal cost. The replacement item was a close enough knock-off that it did the trick! John went above and beyond what a typical contractor would do. So, if he took the time to handle this task, I can only imagine what he would do for a larger project. He is very knowledgeable and willing to go above and beyond to make sure that I was happy with the outcome. What more could you ask for? read more

John was honest, professional, and creative. John just left my house after meeting for the first time. He traveled an hour to get to my house. He was on time and professional. He was very creative in his suggestions and had many options and ideas. He got in a zone and he was measuring and drawing and visualized something awesome. Unfortunately he thinks that what I want to do might fall outside the scope of his team (he suggested a that I hire a general contractor because of the large load bearing wall I want to remove and all of the venting that would have to be moved as well). I really really really appreciated his honesty. He did not offer, but I asked - what would it cost if we didn't knock down the wall? He replied, "do you really want to know? Would you be happy with your kitchen?" I said that I would really like to know because we might chose not to knock down the walls. He then provided a very reasonable rough estimate. read more

I cannot recommend Kent Kitchens strongly enough. I am so in love with my new kitchen. We had a positive experience from the first meeting with the owner, John, all the way through to completion. The person who did the actual work on our kitchen was named Martinho. He was friendly, professional, efficient and extremely hard-working. He worked with us all along the way to make sure we were happy with everything. The pace at which he worked was amazing, but he also produced a high quality product. I have heard nightmares about how long people are out of their kitchens. The time from tear down to being able to use our kitchen was two weeks. That included a wall tear down. Unbelievable. After that, finishing touches were done in a timely manner. We had a scratch on one of the cabinets and John got it replaced without question. The price was very reasonable and the final product is very beautiful. People are stunned when they walk in and see our new kitchen. It is as practical as it is beautiful, thanks to John's suggestions. You will not be disappointed if you hire this company. read more

Overall we are happy with our kitchen, however there were a couple of snags along the way. There was a mis-measurement of the space where the dishwasher was to go. This mis-measurement resulted in us having to get an 18" dishwasher rather than the standard 24" size, which is not only smaller but cost $400 more than the standard size we had purchased and had to return. This of course left us with 6" of space that needed to be filled. At first, we were expected us to cover the cost of either a spice rack or trim to fill the space, but after a phone conversation with John, he did agree to pay for the cost of the trim. We also were asked for the balance of payment before the job was completed (less about $500, until the trim came in and they would then complete the job). When we did not agree to this, but said we would honor the contract and pay the balance in full upon completion of the job, we did get an uncalled for response in an email. On a positive note, one of the cabinet doors had a scratch on it, but John agreed to replace that, without question. Although there were several times when we needed to contact John to find out when they would be back to work on the project, phone calls and emails were responded to in a timely manor. In the end, the kitchen looks good. read more
